Although advertised as a city builder, it's more of a production chain game such as Anno (but limited to a single island).
There is about 25 hours of content before 100% achievements.
Well... let me rephrase: There's about 3 to 4 times the same content on a different map before you'll get 100% achievements.
There are different maps and finishing each map unlocks a special building that can be used in all other maps.
Technically, you should finish each map, but it's the same game every time so it's a bit repetitive.
The mining part of the game is fun, though.

It's a short and easy "city builder" in which you can't really do anything wrong other than wasting resources you get before repairing the train station.

I'll 'recommend' this, as there isn't a 'mixed' option in Steam.

Rocks are composed of minerals and may contain a wide range of mineral compositions.
Stones are smaller rocks or minerals that come from the ground.

I highly recommend it if you buy it for the gameplay (try the demo!).

If you consider buying it because it is disguised as a Disciples game, then the choice is easy. It's not a Disciples game in anything but name alone. Unfortunately I can't recommend it for that very reason. It's a good game, but it's not a Disciples game.

I played all Disciples games up until now, and have completed them (some several times). Yet the setting in this game doesn't feel familiar at all. Where are the factions? What happened to the established lore?

It's similar to the situation with Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 compared to Dungeon Siege 3. Yeah, it has been given the same name. No, it is not the same franchise (anymore).

Got this on sale as I've heard many good things about it.
Controls are janky though, with a very low FOV.
Stuff like automatically getting into cover are quickly getting frustrating.

I assume this was acceptable on console with controllers, but on pc using kb/m the game doesn't feel nice to run around or shoot.

Since the reviews are good and people like the IP, there must be a good game hidden behind those, but I'm not going to get used to those controls just for the sake of having a good story. I'd rather watch a Let's Play instead.

Although Cities Skylines still has more to offer - given the extensive modding community and plentiful DLC - Cities Skylines 2 has many welcome improvements.

It is enjoyable now and I expect it to only become better in the future.

EDIT: Turns out my expectations were wrong. Wait for it to be fixed, for all DLC to be out, and for it to be heavily discounted. Maybe by then it's a worthy successor. Right now it's just not worth your time.

EDIT 2: In a funny change of events, the first DLC they released ended up being the DLC with the most negative review on Steam. They decided to refund the DLC and and remove it from the store. The DLC has since been removed, and the negative reviews with it. "Unexpectedly" removing the DLC also caused a lot of cities to break, since removing the DLC = removing the building and prop models that came with it.
Many people now have their city broken due to the removal of the DLC. But, hey, the negative reviews are gone so the PR nightmare has been solved, right?

EDIT 3: After admitting that they released too soon and screwed up multiple times instead of simply being transparent about the whole situation, they recognized the game-breaking problems with the economy. After a few patches it seems like they've now corrected course. Let's hope they don't drift off again. For now, I'll change the review to 'positive' again, as the game is now at least playable beyond the initial city-building, after which stuff breaks.
Oh, almost forgot! Don't build any parks or other leisure buildings, because apparently your city will be doomed by some bug with homeless people who gather in leisure buildings. This should only become a real issue after reaching about 100 000 cims in your city. The only way to avoid the issue at the moment is to not build any leisure.

Fun little time waster. Bought it in the '23 winter sale because I wanted to know more about SteamWorld before going into SteamWorld Build. Did not regret.

You dig for ores, which you sell in the town for money. Money is needed for consumables and permanent upgrades. There are enemies, as well as static dangers such as acid pools and exploding barrels. Most important of all: Moving around is fun, especially when you have gained access to some upgrades. Digging is permanent so make sure you don't screw yourself.

Not a fan of graphic novels. Still enjoyed this one.

Just play it when you have to fill an afternoon or something and have nothing better to do.
Don't go finding guides or review, just play it.

The longer you play it, the better it becomes.
Some stuff isn't explained, but that's okay - less hand holding in games is something many of us have been hoping for for a long time.

Would have been nice to see some conversational AI being worked into this, but I guess that would have meant postponing release by quite some time.

30 hours in I've barely scratched the surface. I think I've seen 75% of the different mechanics in the game, but I could be wrong. Didn't yet smuggle and haven't really set up any bases except for a single one which I haven't gone back to yet. I'm also still flying the starter ship you get, although I have recently switched some modules for stronger ones.

And I'm like lvl 11 or something.

It's fun having a go-to game again which I play for fun, not because I thought I needed some more hours in a title or work towards some achievements because I have nothing else to play - That may be a good recap of this review:
I have something to play again, rather than a library to scroll infinitely or a game I started 'just because whatever' :)
