Update: Paths are still broken in various ways. A wide selection of bugs related to staff not doing their job or simply getting stuck are still present. The online animal trading is still mandatory and giving a laggy, unresponsive experience. It's pretty, but I don't know whether it's enjoyable to play the actual game or not - I could not actually play the game yet without running into game-breaking bugs or experiencing frequent crashes.

Update 2: I can finally play the game without crashes and overwhelming amount of bugs.
There is, however, a lack of QoL that stands out so much that it slaps you in the face every time you end up in a menu that is totally not what it should be. e.g. Clicking your 'money' should obviously send you straight to the financials overview, but instead you are shown a window 1 - 2 clicks away from the finance window. There is a lack of a search box for the filter list, etc.
It's my favorite crappy game. I love the game but I hate that I love it :(
There is a ton of detail, a ton of options, a ton of props and freedom to build. But the focus seems to have been on quantity and not quality, and thus the game is frustrating to play because the imperfections overshadow the actual game. Com'on Frontier, I know you guys can do better than this...

It could be fun, but at least it's pretty!

Be aware that a lot of users are having issues resulting in crashes or corrupted saves.
Furthermore, be aware that the 'franchise' mode requires an internet connection and can be quite laggy from time to time.

Best to look in the discussions section in order to see whether or not most issues have been resolved.
[Edit: 10 months after release about half of the issues I have encountered are patched out and replaced by new ones. The other half is still present from day one. Most of them are game-breaking, so I haven't really been able to enjoy the game since launch. Time spent in-game is mostly spent creating new zoos and building all the basics, only to find out it is still a mess after unpausing.]
