Early Access Review
My first impressions here were not great. Shoddy hitreg, unreliable physics, and a few more huge key points:

Firstly, this is supposed to be a BATTLE ROYALE game, correct? So why do players spawn with already kitted with a whole arsenal? The sole fact that two enemy players can land and instantly kill one another within less than a few frames is utterly ridiculous.

Second, your team volume is ungodly low. Even at max volume, it is nearly impossible to hear team mates using in game audio.

Third, The artstyle is terrible. Last I checked, this was called PLANETSIDE ARENA, not Borderlands: Battle Royale Edition. The cell shading is not done right, the game feels much too blurry to keep focus, and I often find myself losing details and feeling distracted due to the DoF and blur of distant objects.

Fourth, enemy vehicles, regardless of what they are can be seen on the large map. Why? The game has a spot function, which does not work as I have tried several times to use it, and I should not have to rely on the full map screen to see where the enemies are, that is what eyes are for.

Fifth, Why third person? This is not in any way shape or form even remotely related to Planetside in any way. Mixed with the headache inducing artstyle, and the thirdperson by default, with no in game key to switch between the two, I can see why the reviews for this game are mixed at best.

All in all, without the title of Planetside on the side of it, the game is just another generic battle royale game with MICRO TRANSACTIONS ON DAY ONE. ♥♥♥♥ you daybreak, you've been avoiding the random gen crates in Planetside 2 for the longest time, and now you see an opportunity for people to gorge themselves in these RNG based garbage crates you know people are dumb enough to purchase. You're garbage, get your trash out of here. Sony was wrong to give you this title.

UPDATE 7/17/21

After many hours of this game, I can say for certain it's an absolute gem of a game. It's very slow to start, and is very boring for a while, but once you pass that 2 hours mark, it's smooth sailing. Staying up for days just overhauling this belt and that machine. It's a wonderful trip.

Oh, and the developer is an absolutely based legend amongst us. Please, never change Kovarex. Don't apologize, and please keep being an absolute legend for yourself, and for Factorio!

The best DLC ever released for one of the best games I've ever played! Absolutely get this DLC, don't even wait!

Also: Pro tip: Most enemies in this DLC resist Fire, so bring LOTS of shock and corrosive weapons.

Although under construction, servers are lively, devs are great people, and all around these guys care about what you think. The game itself is still a little jittery. The content is minimal, but efficient, and anything you can spend money on is cosmetic only, and even then, you can just earn the purchasable crates through missions anyway. I highly suggest playing this game!

A Very formidable game. However, I don't recommend buying until a sale, or future patches and overhauls adressing specific issues, such as grinding, animations, detection range of AI, and gunplay. With all thart said, however, the game is still very good, even for the infancy state the game is in right now.

The new update is garbage. I wish the 2.0 version was optional, almost as a "hardcore" mode... I am only saying this because in the old update, things were simple, but effective. Ships weren't that bad to make, borders worked just fine, and you didn't have to annoyingly spend ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of minerals just to claim stars. Protecting your empire becomes more of a chore than a game, and if another empire declares war on you, the enemies can just take stars in your border away from you since they can just destroy your station easily. Actually putting defenses in your system is a pain as well because military stations can't be standalone anymore, and upgrading to starholds is expensive not only to upgrade in the first place, but to maintain. The credit and mineral generation are all sorts of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up recently, I notice that at one moment I am generating roughly 25 EC and 55 Minerals, and then suddenly a pirate fleet attacks, dies instantly to one of my stations, and a governor dies and I am at -8 EC and 27 minerals. What...? I don't understand anymore.

The game used to be really good, but now it's just confusing, tedious, and more of a chore than a game.

I came, I played, I hated it.
I hope this franchise gets hit by a bus.

10/10, this game is trash.

The purpose of my review is to tell people writing negative reviews, *YOU HAVE TO OPT INTO THE BETA TO GET THE VERSION YOU SEE IN VIDEOS*

In order to opt into beta:
Right-Click Osiris in the library, click Properties
Navigate to the "Betas" tab at the top
click the drop down menu, and select OpenBeta

Please mark the review as helpful, so we can correct the Mixed rating over the falsely accused "Too hard to start." The open beta corrects all of the bugs and problems negative reviews say!

EDIT: As of 8/28/17 the "BETA" that I had told you to opt into has now been moved to the stable branch. Thank you to everyone who has marked this review as helpful! Should this situation happen again, I will update the review.

NOTE: This review was made many years ago, and is no longer valid. I myself have also not played this game for at least a year and a half. Do not consider this information valid anymore. I will however not delete the review strictly for archiving purposes.

FINAL EDIT: Due to recent controversies, I am going to be changing this review to negative and leave it. I played again a few months ago and didn't notice any significant change either, it was practically the same as I left it 3 years prior. Read Raditz's review post for context.

Lamda Wars is essentially what I've always seen some games should have. There are a lot of games out there that should have RTS variants. One of them specifically is Planetside 2, the other being Half-life 2. Once you combine arguably one of the best games to be released, and put some RTS elements into it, you've got a recipe for awesomeness.

This game is definitely something everyone should, if not play, try out for yourself. Trust me, the experience is absolutely worth it.

Tried playing again in 2023. Could not load into a single server without my computer either freezing, lagging, or the game crashing immediately after the unacceptably long loading time. The game's optimization is, and will continue to be beyond abysmally terrible and I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone pay full price for this toxic cesspool. Elephants Foot in Chernobyl is less radioactive than Rust
