@Elias, yep! a new protocol allowed me to drastically reduce tris count while maintaining the overall shape of the car.

i haven't yet tested it in the game... but only from watching the pictures, that might be the most perfect car in the workshop.... those lights! awesome. and only 1488 tris? for real?
