hey sam, this mod has been making my game crash. I did some debugging and figured out that it is an issue with the metadata, where it says that its version compatability is 2.*.* - i dont see why this is an issue but apparently it is. Just a heads up!

The texture shifts opacity based on building slots unlocked, so you are able to "hide" different light levels in one texture.

Got a bit of a question/concern here... I look at your first picture (the one of a normal Continental Earth), and I see a lot of detail, a lot of lights. For me, it doesn't look anything like that. I just see the bold, equatorial circles, but none of the smaller bits. Could there be another mod in the way? Am I otherwise missing something? Here's how it looks for me:

This mod replaces a texture. That's it. It's physically impossible for the middle texture, labelled Vanilla to appear given that I over ride it. Also, given that it is only a single texture, and I have literally verified that it's working, it's also not possible that the change in opacity isn't working. The only possible cause I can imagine is that you have the old texture and you need to forcibly update by unsubbing and resubbing, but then that contradicts your complaint about the texture displaying.

The one labelled Better Night Lights is the old version of BNL, I replaced it with the new one to use the change in opacity. Regardless of how it may look in the image above, it's not better quality, it's a noisy mess. It covers nearly the entire land area into pixelated cyan blur.

And also my changes in texture weren't working, for example new colonies and even natives were appearing as like the middle or last one as opposed to the first one

Well yeah but what I'm saying is my textures are appearing as a less detailed version than what is shown, you have two pictures one of a slightly less detailed version and one that is much more detailed and says "better lights" over it. Mine are appearing more as the less textured more blue version

I just tested this. Opacity is determined by the number of buildings on the planet, not districts or pops, which is weird. Here is a set of images showing all three levels; https://imgur.com/a/OVulxnU

I tested this on the old tile system, it used to be an increase every 5 pops or so for three different opacity levels. So greater then 15 pops is max brightness. I'm not sure how it works with the new system, or even if the opacity does change.

Either way it's a hardcoded system. I'd love to have a script that allowed more control over this.

It does, but because of how bright the main portion of the textures are it's difficult to see. If you see the vanilla texture above the very dim sections are what actually changes when population increases. Instead of using additional textures the game changes the opacity. The design I use makes that difficult.

The texture doesn't change with population. A colonized planet always has the same light texture.

when i ran the mod the night light textures didn't look nearly as detailed as they did in the screen shots, they looked more like the last picture instead of the one with the better lights caption, that and the number of lights didn't change with population it was just the whole planet covered. how do i fix this?

There's no code to copy. We don't have access to any code, only the scripting system that they have.

Ashame you can't change the colour depending on your empire, or maybe so it matches your flag. Maybe having copying the code for the ship colors would work? As the colors still change even with the more flag colors mod. (very dark purple is actually supported)

Second-is there a chance of a "mixed" kind of texture mod, which gives random colours each of the planets at night?
Aslike one Planet has Cyan, another white, others green?

I've just done testing comparing a 4090*2048 texture to a 2048*1024 texture. There's no almost observable difference in quality. The game doesn't let you zoom in on planets far enough to appreciate the higher resolution.

That said there is an old alternative texture that I have made that has less filtering, I'll upload a preview in the images.

It has less noise as well, so the circular shapes are more defined on the planet surface.

The texture is 2048*1024 both in the vanilla build and my mod. Any larger texture is just going to get sampled.

No, there's just a simple texture file. The only functionality beyond that is changing the alpha based on the percentage of tiles occupied by buildings. But, that is something we don't have access to.

can this night light mod be made to have the light colors match the colors of the star of that system. For example, if you have a planet in a system with a blue star, the night lights are blue, and your planet in the next system over which has a red star, its lights will be red etc. Is that possible?
