No problem! I finally found an alternative theme for me made by pdelmo, so we both got what we wanted in the end :steamhappy:

Thank you very much! Having the contrast between the three main terrain colors is what makes this theme look so good; I've been using it it pretty much every city I work on

Sure, I can restore the old version. Your point makes sense :)

Hello there,

Is there any way you could reupload the previous version? I've been using it on a city for the last few months and the new update doesn't work well with anything I've done so far.

Or if there's any way I could unsubsribe to the newest update so that I can have the version from before Feb 6th 2018, that would be wonderful.

Thanks!

Hey @Ziggy_Birdman. I've never found a water normal out there. Give a shout out to OWL, because his water normals (including his own foam normal) are things of great beauty. I'lll see what he thinks about making a little tutorial. THe foam normal looks very different - I don'T even know what the word for that type of texture is LOL

Hey, speaking of the normals, you seen any good water normals? I really wish we had the option to have water with more surf foam like when the water touches land and then goes back out to sea. More realistic that way.

*thumbsup !

Absolutely! This listing right here is actually a map theme that gives you the colors of the US Southwest / Outback, so you can use it on any map you like. The map you see pictured is Planet Andromeda, I forgot to link it in the description :D Good that you messaged!

This map would look good with the american 1900's buildings!

Thanks! I too have heard that the normals are incredibly difficult to make, hence why I haven't tried. lol. All my textures that I've used in themes I've made were found online as well. I haven't done any map themes recently, just a few after the new theme editor came out. Your themes are far more advanced than mine so those videos should help. I may just leave the normals textures to the pros and just download them. I've heard of GIMP, I've used it before but its been a while. I used it back when I was editing photos. jpg is actually a more compressed image where as png is not, which is why you get better imaging with a png, of course you also get a larger filesize.

Ah! Last thing, I think that normal is a jpg. I'm not sure if you have to convert it to PNG, but you can give it a try. Always better to have a PNG for its higher resolution... as far as I have seen.

Would have helped to include the links XD . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SNR5Ubarto

Some help in making your own seamless textures like the non normals, here's the tutorial video that helped me! I use GIMP, which is open source (free) alternative to Photoshop.
Re: the normals, I found those normals actually. They are a ton of work and difficult according to my chats with OWL - one of his best normals I've seen took him 48 hours O.O He uses a program called Z Brush I believe.
He takes it to a whole different level, so go take a peek at his map themes to observe how well the textures flow together on his themes. Watch the water / foam flow when you hit play (those effects are controlled by normals): Anyway, it helps me to see his work and use it as a benchmark
I'm sure GIMP is more than capable of making normals, but I haven't advanced to making my own good normals from scratch as of yet. Let's hope OWL makes a tutorial video :D

It looks great, I see what you mean about the normals. Its interesting. I'll be messing around with some themes ideas when I get the chance but how did you make the normals? Is it some kind of editing program to get it?
MrMiyagi  [Δημιουργός] 10 Μαϊ 2016, 3:21
It's a 2048x2048, the same as the sand and ore, as is the planet, too. I want to keep the file size reasonable, so I picked the most important for this theme as big sizes. I'd like to ttry to get oil also in a high resolution that is something else to decorate with like Ennedi - check out his Tatra Mountains terrain theme's flowery meadow simulation. I want to be able to do *that*, that's some advanced stuff :D

No problem Ziggy! Yes, you can experiment / play around using the cracked cliff normal I shared, just to see how it works and use it if you like. Making them is even more of a pain than making sure your regular texture doesn't repeat like a table cloth XD That segues into my answer for Simulant
@Simulant that's how I finally came up with a decent cliffside, trying to figure out how to balance that. Nowhere near as amazing as OWL or Ennedi, but compared to the previous sets I came up with, I think they're much improved. Once I learned that the normal is where 3d effectls like cracks, waves, etc are simulated, then i realized that in order to make a cool rough rock image, it was important to have a high resolution cliff texture (so it can be expanded a lot before it starts to get blurry), a texture that is also very uniform to prevent that tablecloth repetition. Hope that makes any sense? :D
Simulant 10 Μαϊ 2016, 2:55
Looks good! What resolution did you use for the cliff texture? I always find it difficult to balance resolution and repetition....

Thanks, I got them. I didn't know to reply to the pm. lol. Im not familiar with normals, but I have seen them in the editor. I'll have to tinker a bit to see what I come up with.

Hi Ziggy_Birdman, I'll be glad to share them with you :) I'll send you a PM
ConureGuy_411 9 Μαϊ 2016, 19:37
Where did you get the textures for this theme? I'd like to use them to update some of the textures on my red rocks theme.
