I have to echo Atticus V. Shwoll and Be_Le_Me. My Civilopedia was missing most of the entries. It took a lot of trial and error, but disabling this mod got the Civilopedia working again.

It's not hard to remove the hp loss yourself but if you are that inept the older version without it is linked in the description, try reading one every now and then instead of just smashing the subscribe button like a cave person, then complaining about a easily fixed feature.

download Vox populi. It has helicopters that fly over water without weird restrictions.

The mod has broken the Civilopedia for some reason
Nepix214 4. juni 2022 kl. 0:19
this mod makes heli's only viable use a marauding unit for when you invade a country and gain a foothold and have an airport in the foothold city. bloody useless.

I agree to donashcroft
donashcroft 21. okt. 2021 kl. 6:44
as others have said I think your balance brakes this mod, remove the HP loss its stupid.
Usernamehere 17. dec. 2020 kl. 21:58
Good mod, but I can't bring myself to start using this because of all of the balancing changes. I think this mod would work best if it only gave Helicopters the ability to fly over water and disabled their embarking ability. Why not keep it simple?
janda 9. sep. 2019 kl. 4:15
Does this work on helicopters that have been created by upgrading from anti tank cannon or only on newly built ones?
Be_Le_Me 29. apr. 2019 kl. 21:36
Great mod, but unfortunately makes the civilopedia blanks. Sorry, but I gotta pass
CaptainReklaw 8. mar. 2019 kl. 10:18
Please turn off this fuel attrition thing you added. This was a great mod.
NoThisIsPatrick 27. sep. 2018 kl. 5:17
This mod makes the civilopedia completely useless. Also imo the 25% HP attrition penalty makes Helicopters the worst unit in the game. Helicopters are already very underpowered and poorly balanced, and in unmodded games only are useful if you have upgraded them from landschnekts, anti tank guns, or some anti mounted UU. Even then they have limited usefulness and are mostly pillage bots. I got this mod a while back to help counterbalance this by allowing them to facilitate amphibious landings. With the mod gunships are now only useful for defending the homeland against barbarians in the short window before they get outgunned when barbs get infantry. The attrition makes them completely useless for any type of offense. Having 60 CS in the atomic/information age is enough of a penalty, they dont need more nerfs.

Yeah, same civilopedia issue here...

can verfiy mod screws up civilopedia badly
Narrelama 11. dec. 2016 kl. 2:48
This mod certainly works for me.

However - uncertain how well the AI copes - maybe u could tweak something in regards to AI or the attrition... The AI has a tendency to park its choppers offshore, using them to guard remote fisheries and the like - thereby loosing them to attrition damage :D

I agree with/would like to find a mod with helicopters being able to fly over coast but not ocean, and having to embark to cross ocean - although I'm not sure what the best way to do that is, since embarking from coast essentially means landing in water, so maybe it has to be done from a land tile....

The fuel mechanic is interesting - I've seen other mods play around with it (like requiring oil), and would be interested to try out a mod that adds a functional and enjoyable fuel mechanic for all units that should require it, but again, I haven't put a great deal of thought into how it would work... so I'm not sure it would improve the game for me. I'd have to see. I think the game's pretty good as is anyway :P
SpacingOut 14. juni 2016 kl. 9:29
To support other's recommendation that only allow helicopter to fly on coast only so that it make sense as in reality helicopter isnt long range transportation without support from land.
2PIKACHUNO 10. apr. 2016 kl. 11:46
It could be made so that they can pass over water but they just can't land in water. If thats posible I guess it could work.
We know 16. dec. 2015 kl. 20:39
loose health outside of territory? thats nonsense and a too huge nerf. would love this mod without...
Venusaisha 3. nov. 2015 kl. 8:37
it be nice if someone made different helicopter units. Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King :steamsalty:
Venusaisha 1. nov. 2015 kl. 8:12
Only way to helicopter to embark across deep ocean would be by carrier. However by late game certian tech allow helicopters to fly over deep ocean. Other wise they can fly hover on coast and low water level basis on history n technology.
Love&Tolerance 15. sep. 2015 kl. 14:38
I agree with discogodofthe2ndage - the whole fuel simulation mechanic is unnecessarily complicated. As suggested, only allow the helicopters to hover over Coast tiles and make deep ocean impassable. This way they would still have to embark to cross deep ocean but could enjoy free movement close to land.
Keep up the good work
T11T 7. sep. 2015 kl. 8:45
NOTE: IRL helicopters a carried in speciific ships since they have a short fly time
JEELEN 3. aug. 2015 kl. 4:12
@RJ815 If the mod messes up Civpedia, perhaps you should remove those references from the mod (if you don't fix them), instead of asking players to do that in every single download?
kraytchaos 1. aug. 2015 kl. 5:54
The whole fuel thing is poor mechanics.

discogodofthe2ndage 7. juli 2015 kl. 19:49
I like the idea, but the fuel simulation is unnecessarily complicated, and inconsistent since no other units simulate fuel.

I understand the need to stop Helicopters from endlessly hovering over the open ocean.

Why not give Helicopters PROMOTION_OCEAN_IMPASSABLE so they still have to stay close to land?
sawghost 31. maj 2015 kl. 13:37
yes i hate how helis cant fly over water its logic

finally a mod I want

Usefull Mod and the Md works.
RJ  [ophavsmand] 2. maj 2015 kl. 23:35
@Cyde, yes, the Civilopedia seems to be a bit bugged from the mod. If you dig into the XML itself (it isn't very long), removing any references to civilopedia stuff may help clear up the problem.
Sinbad the Sailor 1. maj 2015 kl. 9:27
This mod messed up my civilopedia. Any section beyond promotions wouldn't be shown.
Wesleypipes77 26. apr. 2015 kl. 20:47
I totally clicked the wrong link....... my bad lol. Thanks for the quick reply though.
RJ  [ophavsmand] 26. apr. 2015 kl. 20:41
@Wesleypipes77, not sure what issue you are having as the "old version here" link still takes me to version 2 just fine. However, if you are somehow stuck with only being able to get version 3, the description also notes steps you can use to "transform" version 3 into version 2 functionality.
Wesleypipes77 26. apr. 2015 kl. 20:12
I was reading some comments about Version 2 as opposed to 3 etc.. I want to try version 2 which in the comments below you say is available in the direct download link. I tried the link and the download I got was labelled as version 3. Is the current version available for subscription here version 3 as well? If so then there is no other version available to us currently
sniperray213 20. mar. 2015 kl. 11:33
I tested this mod out and it officially never worked and I didnt get my achievement for testing it out.
migwelor 6. mar. 2015 kl. 11:48
Carriers should be able to transport helicopters as well.
RJ  [ophavsmand] 17. feb. 2015 kl. 10:49
@Civ5StrategyGamer, the rules for when helicopters take damage in version 3 is very simple. Whether it is on land or above water, outside of your territory means it does take damage, inside of your territory means it doesn't. Personally, I prefer the stress-free version 2 myself, but a lot of people complained about it not being "realistic" to fly helicopters over oceans easily, so version 3 was created to try to reach a compromise.
Civ5StrategyGamer 17. feb. 2015 kl. 10:46
I must be using version 3 then. However, the helicopter was hovering over a land tile and not a water tile. I'll also point out that I have another helicopter that is hovering over water but it is hovering in my territorry and that unit has not taken any damage.
RJ  [ophavsmand] 17. feb. 2015 kl. 10:32
@Civ5StrategyGamer, I assume you're using version 3 of the mod. Helicopters in that version take damage if they are outside friendly territory. Version 2 (available as a direct download in the description) removes that fuel "simulation" so that helicopters can indefinitely stay above water or basically anywhere else.
Civ5StrategyGamer 16. feb. 2015 kl. 21:41
All in all a great mod. My only complaint "I don't know if it has something to do with the mod or if it's an in game issue" is that I left a helicopter just outside of my borders in neutral territorry and after an ex number of turns it was "killed". I checked the diplomacy panel and I was not at war with any other civilization at the moment nor did I leave the unit hovering over a mountain. Could this be a possible glitch?

Can you make this combatible with the german domination mod's eurocopter?
