great idea but as you can't move the projection position around (as you can with projectors or sensor areas) I had to gut a bunch of instruments to fit it behind my cockpit, and then well its just not very clear, a real navball you take a quick glance at it and even in IMC you know your attitude, not so with this nav ball, as you are always offset from it so you're seeing the craft attitude mixed with your relative position between pilot and navball position...
Abisius Xarvenius Carbensius 3 dec, 2024 @ 16:11
yeah the restructuring of the gmenu with the contact update did throw some stuff around in it.
D'Car 3 dec, 2024 @ 14:04
Friend of mine just found this ... and I gotta say I instantly fell in love with it until I went to use it. Can there be some offset sliders for the projection? That'd make a world of difference in this beautiful thing. Oh, also, the blocks don't seem to appear in any particular category in the G menu for me - probably just a symptom of the G menu being updated over time. Searching for them works, so it's got that going for it.
thesnowfox84 18 okt, 2024 @ 18:19
after testing it its a great mod needs some love tho
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 27 aug, 2024 @ 18:26
I think someone was working on it for a minute there but it never got done. I'm not smart enough with programming to do it so unless whiplash gets wild one night or someone else takes a crack at it, don't hold your breath.
Darian Stephens 9 aug, 2024 @ 16:04
So, it's been 6 years since the last update to the mod.
2 years since the mention of near-future location adjustments.
Any news on that front? It would still be nice to be able to offset it at will, like a projector.
Drake 9 aug, 2024 @ 16:00
@AutoMcDonough, Hey there, Checking in... one of my favorite mods here, looks like it has thrown an error on load of an old save. Working to see if it was just a first load in a while and will look at the bug reports when i get time. Will also look see if you have an updated one. :-)
Perp 19 jan, 2023 @ 16:41
Hi Auto, have you and sushen made any progress on the updated Navball? I really love the mod and it'd fit perfectly into one of my small ships, but sadly there's nowhere to put the projector that would align the ball to the flight seat properly.
BIV 30 nov, 2022 @ 2:53
Just being friendly and polite to those who offer mods and scripts etc, can't hurt.
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 29 nov, 2022 @ 16:14
you don't need my permission to use a mod. ;)
BIV 29 nov, 2022 @ 9:23
This look very cool, it may actually help me stop from getting lost and maybe from crashing alot, all the the time. A really nice piece of work , I look forward to giving it a try, if that's ok with you, if not just drop me a line and I'll unsubscribe right away. Great work by all those involved and thanks to AutoMcDonough for posting it. Good onya mate.
Darian Stephens 17 jul, 2022 @ 15:49
Glad you guys changed your mind on not doing it anymore!
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 17 jul, 2022 @ 8:38
Good news guys, sushen's script works and it is amazing. We are still doing some more tweaks but in the near future the navball location and size will be adjsutable. :)
Garpfruit 8 jul, 2022 @ 17:54
is there a version that acts like the large grid version but on small grid?
sushen 5 jul, 2022 @ 10:07
Finally found out how to save things ;) But there is still a part of the model (the one symbolizing the ship) that can't move because it is not a subpart.. Unfortunatly I'm just a programmer, not a 3D artist :D

AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 4 jul, 2022 @ 15:57
oh cool. you should find me on discord, maybe i can get you the right people to help.
sushen 4 jul, 2022 @ 14:46
Thanks for the links, but these are not compact air sealed as I search for.. I managed to code sliders to move the navball, but didn't find out yet how to save the offsets over game sessions..
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 3 jul, 2022 @ 14:38
there's a small one in 2 other mods:
https://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1769427568
https://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1654963857

Unfortunately I don't have the programming skill to make it adjustable. I am possibly going to make a newer version of heavybridge and some other cockpits though.
sushen 3 jul, 2022 @ 14:36
Great mod, but I rather use small cockpits in my builds. Any chance we can have it adapted to other cockpit size in the future ? Or at least have a setting to offset it ?
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 10 jun, 2022 @ 4:11
wow yeah that is bonkers. the same thing was probably happening to any other subpart, if you look at the turrets or whatever you would see it. I wouldn't do more than 300, anything past 300-500 the game starts shitting itself in all sorts of strange ways.
Abisius Xarvenius Carbensius 9 jun, 2022 @ 21:13
@spacemans
that is far above the speed that is i nsave areas to be used.
i have set the speed i nmy world to 200m/s for small grid and 150m/s for large grid and have no probs.
i use configurable parameters for that and also to configure some other stuff liek ore detector and spotlight range.
taint Slapper 9 jun, 2022 @ 20:25
I do believe it was this mod here, , maybe it has to do with the sheer scale of the velocity limits.
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 9 jun, 2022 @ 14:35
interesting. which mod was it?
taint Slapper 9 jun, 2022 @ 14:06
Disabling that mod fixes the error it seems. Sorry to bother!
taint Slapper 8 jun, 2022 @ 16:57
Just regular speeds. I have a speed mod installed, but I haven't needed to go faster than 100m/s for a while and the ball still drifts far off.
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 8 jun, 2022 @ 15:34
i don't think so. how fast are you going?
taint Slapper 8 jun, 2022 @ 14:06
The navball kind of gets deflected when traveling at speed, is there anything that can be done about that?
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 29 mar, 2021 @ 15:24
It is still supported, not abandoned. But new features are unlikely. The navball cockpit and HeavyBridge pilot seat both feature this navball in a smaller less obtrusive way.
Darian Stephens 29 mar, 2021 @ 9:57
@Lord Fransie
I believe that was planned a few years back, but given that the mod hasn't been updated for just as long, it's pretty safe to assume it's abandoned.
Even if it's not, barring any dev updates, there's no way of knowing when or if the offset update will come, so it's not worth waiting for.
Just forget about it and move on, then if it comes out, it will be a pleasant surprise.
Lord Fransie 28 mar, 2021 @ 14:05
Great mod, I wish we could have the ability to "move" where the ball is though. So I can place a projector and then have an X,Y,Z offset I can use for the navball.
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 13 jan, 2021 @ 10:30
it is a model, not a HUD item. and as far as i know it should be compatible with speed mods.
TheDevBird 11 jan, 2021 @ 14:47
Does this mod work on the hud alone or is there a similar mod that shows a velocity marker that works with the unlimited speed mod?
Chronus 3 dec, 2020 @ 14:20
have any of you played avorion? the prograde and retrograde markers are part of your hud that can move around your screen depending on which way youre looking or moving. instead of a static navball, however this mod looks dope and is the only one ive found on here <3
CyberWizard 1 jul, 2020 @ 9:58
is it possible to add controls to adjust the position of the navball projection? I use a modded cockpit and the default position places it out of sight
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 31 maj, 2020 @ 19:08
no idea lol
Mikestriken 30 maj, 2020 @ 21:07
Question: when I install the nav ball for a large ship (maybe also small, just haven't gone that fast yet) and I exceed around 200 m/s the nav ball clips into the cockpit and then goes further into it to the point where I can no longer see the nav ball at all, so how do I stop that?
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 12 jan, 2020 @ 17:15
what happen
Victoria, Angel of the void 12 jan, 2020 @ 12:49
Good concept, never gonna use it again.
I'm gonna give this a couple years for the engine to not shit the bed every time I try to use this.

I don't blame the mod. The mod can at times work fantastic and I don't think the mod is at fault here. It's the engine SE runs on that I think is shitting the bed most of the time. You know, because it's the best quirk about Havok.
Molten Carnage 1 dec, 2019 @ 20:35
Oh please yes. Variants good, yes yes. Sneedle have presssious very soon? Yess? Sooon, my presssious, sooooon. :steammocking: lol
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 9 nov, 2019 @ 4:25
in the "navball cockpits" mod and "heavybridge" it is moved down to the dash.. I still don't have ability to offset it via controls but i could make more variants.
Darian Stephens 8 nov, 2019 @ 22:27
They said they were working on it, but I think the modders have stopped. If only because it's been over a year since the last update, and many months since they've said anything here.
aycfes 8 nov, 2019 @ 20:46
so, a few suggestions on how to improve the mod:
for small grid ones, 3 sliders to offset the ball, rendering cockpit specific ones unecessary, and making mod compatibility easy
allow us to change the opacity of the navball parts; the gravity ball is for too opaque for me, like in the last and third to last images (bug, i guess) and being able to make other stuff, such as the line, who can realy get in the way sometimes, loss of a problem.
Sergih123 22 okt, 2019 @ 3:21
Can we get the option to deactivate the XYZ compass? I'd just like to stay with the prograde and retrograde markers, thanks! :D
aycfes 2 okt, 2019 @ 13:26
well
i'm happy
TwitchingPsycho 4 aug, 2019 @ 4:28
Oh, also, it would be cool if you could have offset sliders and even a checkbox for double spheres so you can offset for 2 pilot seats and the block can be lookin cool in the middle somewhere between the seats. :D
TwitchingPsycho 4 aug, 2019 @ 4:25
Ya know what would be cool? If we could flip it upside down. I want to mount it on the middle of ship on the ceiling. That'd be amazing. Also, i use Digi's attachment mod to use small grid on large grid for cockpit detail etc, the small grid navball is too focused on the fighter cockpit build, it would be awesome if the large grid model would be used as a standalone small grid interior navball. :) The large block models are just too beautiful. Love it, part of every save i have. xD
Solomon 6 maj, 2019 @ 2:53
Works like a charm. Forget, what I wrote earlier. ^^
AutoMcDonough  [skapare] 21 apr, 2019 @ 8:09
I'm working on some cockpits featuring this. There is also the pilot seat from my HeavyBridge mod which features navball that is more out of the way.
Darian Stephens 21 apr, 2019 @ 7:05
That's been in the works for donkey's ages now; I wouldn't get your hopes up any time soon.
FlareFluffsune 21 apr, 2019 @ 5:01
Is there any way to manually offset the position of the navball? I want to use it in my large grid miner but the only spot I have is a sunk spot so half the navball is out of view.
