I'm loving the maps generated by this mod! Currently playing as wide Russia for a change and wound up in an upside-down mountain-shaped continent extending down from the north pole. In spite of being half tundra and snow there's still enough room for 10+ decent cities, and I'm all alone except for one city-state. This is on a large-sized map with two extra AI civs. As a fan of navies and amphibious assaults I look forward to being an island fortress and the late-game wars with fleets of battleships, carriers and nuke-bearing submarines. I hand-picked a bunch of militaristic AI for a domination-only game, so it should be good fun.

If you check the CivFanatics page [forums.civfanatics.com], not much. But I added more custom options, such as map size modifier that affects the map size results, ocean rift width that affects how big the ocean generation result, and more value options for existing custom options gradual change.

I'm still preparing the next version, which includes major civ spawn placement and some couple refinement.

So I updated this map script to a new version and I want to keep improving it. I'm asking for your permission, are you okay with it?
Don't worry, I still crediting you inside the LUA file, and I'm not claiming this map as my own.

FYI, I already updated this map further to include more custom options and better generation results on smaller map sizes.

I only uploaded on CivFanatics currently. But, if I can get your permission to upload it on Steam Workshop, I'd be glad to do so since there is going to be more people that can enjoy the improved map.

Great mod. If you could add a setting to force all the major civs to spawn on the biggest continent (Like in the Terra map) this mod would be perfect

No, only terrain. Flat, hill, mountain, water. Climates are also not handled by this script.

IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN MULTIPLAYER:
Simply copy this map file over from your Civ mod folder into your Civ maps folder. Achievements will not work :) Cheers

I've never done multiplayer in Civ 5, but maybe you could get around the problems Yossarian mentioned by creating a map using this mod, saving it, and then playing on the map "un-modded".
After the map is generated it should essentially be a vanilla map.

Essentially you cant, multiplayer mods only work if everyone specifically downloads them and you do a bunch of complicated shit, forget about ever using it with anyone other than trusted friends

Some coastal flat areas will be replaced by water, but a few hills and mountains will be "downgraded" to plains and hills as well. Overall there will be less land, and it should be a bit rougher.

The description says that sea-level changes the height of the water.
What does that mean?

Does it mean that if it's low, there will be more flat lands and high level means there will be more hilltops and mountains?

Having used quite a few different map scripts, this Mod is a breath of fresh air. One addition I would love to see though is plate boundaries and hot spots. Faults and more volcanoes would be nice, too. Maps using this mod are MUCH more realistic, which I love. Thanks for the Great work!

Also, to everyone - for extra fun, use IGE at the beginning to teleport all civ's units completely off some of the continents; due to the interesting and varied land-forms this script is perfect for a terra-style game. I only wish there was a way to do it without spoiling the map

This is an excellent map script. Consistently creates believable looking worlds, interesting and varied rather than uniform. I just spent about half an hour loading maps, revealing, reloading with a variety of settings and ended up with a map that I would like to play a game on every single time, which is more than can be said about the scripts that come with the game.

To anyone out there who finds themselves constantly "re-generating" waiting for the game to spit out an interesting looking map with truly varied continents, island chains, and archipelagos that looks fun to play - this will certainly scratch your itch.

To the author - this is extremely well done, thank you! This mod is much appreciated, I wish I found it years ago.

It's been a long time since I've made any updates to this script, but I'm not totally satisfied with that option either. I'll think about changing it if I can remember how the script works XD

I got suggestion too - in option "costal start locations" can "No" be the default variant, as is in the most maps? Or each time I play I have to manually switch it in the advanced menu and those not bothering will just never see inland start.

Yes. This script only generates terrain. Resources, ruins, etc are created normally.

So far as I know, map scripts are compatible with everything. Since it just generates vanilla terrain when the game starts, I think you could reload a map without the mod on and it would still work.

This does not modify the game's dll right?
Also, does it work if you restart the game on turn 0 to reroll the start position? I read somewhere that doing that breaks some mods.

According to the code I wrote way back when, that option "Chooses start locations for civilizations". I guess that means it's only for players and not city states. For some reason I was under the impression that city states spawned on coastlines regardless. Not really sure since this script only really affects terrain and the resource and civ placement are basically vanilla.

This is by far the best Workshop map I've ever come across, I've been playing nothing but Tectonic since I discovered it, if you like Continents and want something similar but with more variety, this mod is perfect. I fucking love it

It's been a while since I tried it, but I think it should still work. This mod changes the terrain generation, but the luxuries and other resources are placed in a separate stage which this mod doesn't touch.

Pretty sure the worldsizes are built into the game somewhere else. Easiest hacky workaround is to change one of the existing sizes.
