Intro
If your game looks like this upon arriving on Dxun, it's not supposed to.

Here's how to fix it:
Guide
Alright lads here we go.

  1. Download this file[github.com] (it's an opengl32.dll) and place it in the KotOR2 root folder (that's Steam\SteamApps\Common\Knights of the Old Republic II)
  2. Start the game. Once you're in the main menu, quit the game.
  3. You should now have two folders called shaders_original and shadow_override in your KOTOR folder.
  4. Go into the shaders_original folder and open the first file with a program like Notepad++
  5. Locate the line that says "MOV result.color, r0" (second to last line usually)
  6. Right above that line paste the content of the quote under "Fog Issue" that starts with PARAM p = [github.com]....
    • Highlighted in yellow is the text you need to copy paste

    • Your file should look like this after you pasted it:

  7. Repeat this step for every text file in the folder that has the MOV result.color, r0 line.
  8. After you pasted this into every file that has the MOV result.color, r0 line near the end, copy all text files into the shader_override folder.
    • Note: Not every file has a MOV result.color, r0 line! Pay attention where you're pasting to.
  9. Launch the game, the fog should now be fixed
Result

That's it, the fog is now fixed.

If anyone wants to use reshade with this, you'll just have to rename reshade's opengl32.dll to dinput8.dll

Works in 2025. Manually entered it above all the files with "MOV result.color, r0" exactly, and then copied them into the correct folder. Thank you for this guide!

works fine in 2025, win 10, steam version with TLSRCM + M478EP (english version). The game launches as it was before applying the patch - with no problem.

So, apparently the fix just doesn't work on Linux, period.
I installed the game on Windows, did the fix, edited the files, then copied the files onto my Deck. Yet the Steam Deck still shows the same fog glitch while it looks perfectly normal on my PC.

Does unfortunately not work on Steam Deck (and presumably Linux in general) as the two folders aren't being created.
And the link to the pre-patched files is dead.

I have the same issue as the below guy. No reshade here either. What could the issue be?

I tried following this guide but after copying opengl32.dll to the game's installation folder my game can't even launch. Can anyone help? I don't use reshade/any form of injector for openGL.
