Thank you so much Kommissar Hedgehog.
You the best.
So - simply put, the game is just too different from what I remember and I've been gone long enough for lots of others to take over. Imagine being awesome at something from day 1 and spending weeks getting that thrill, and then having a long layover and going back to find your arse getting kicked and, simply put, the game not as fun as you remember it, but don't let that deter you, the game remains the finest team game money can buy on the market and the best PC gaming moments of my life have been had there.
Thanks - means a lot. :)
I'm afraid in some ways I wouldn't feel able to update the guide. I've been out of the game for a long time. This was written when I'd like to think I was at the top of my game - maybe even the best BW captain on a one-to-one basis. That time is long gone now and that means I'm out of my depth trying to recommend new stuff.
Two examples:
It used to be that cannons were fixed in position and couldn't be aimed. You aimed by aiming the ship. Since the captain also had to do other things like manoeuvre, that gave you flexibility. These days, where guns have a fair amount of turn, manoeuvres like the "Head on" are pretty much futile - they'll just hit you every time - bar shot only further complicates things.
