Introduction
Greetings!
This guide will help you get the 'Street Fighter' achievement in Zeno Clash.

Street Fighter
Beat the game without using weapons unless it is absolutely necessary.

Since this achievement spans over the whole game progress, this guide contains spoilers!
Instructions
The description is quite straightforward. You have to complete the whole game from the Prologue to the final chapter without using any weapons, except for several fights where using a weapon is unavoidable.

Since this achievement can be done on any difficulty, I recommend doing it on Normal (which is the easiest difficulty in Zeno Clash).

Let's clarify things:

Generally speaking you can NOT use:

Skullbombs

Ranged weapons
  • the Crossbow
  • the Dual Fishgun
  • the Grenade Launcher
  • the Rifle
You are allowed to pick up ranged weapons at any time, but you are not allowed to hit enemies with any projectile, use ranged weapons in melee combat or damage enemies by throwing any ranged weapons at them.

Melee weapons

  • the Bone "Sword"
  • the Hammer
You are not allowed to hit common enemies with any of these melee weapons or damage enemies by throwing any melee weapons at them.
Exceptions
Of course, there are some instances where you can't progress further without using some kind of weapon. Where you have to use ranged weapons, you are allowed to miss shots as long as it doesn't hit anyone you're not supposed to hit.

1. Metamoq's 2nd Training
In the second part of Metamoq's training, you are allowed to shoot the birds he throws for you, and also you can use the skullbomb.

2. Encountering Heavy Enemies
During the game you'll face the three heavy enemies (Gabel, Deinother and Therium) several times. These enemies can only be defeated by using a melee weapon, thus you are allowed to use these weapons, but you can hit and damage ONLY the heavy enemies. If you hit a common enemy with your weapon, or damage them by throwing the weapon at them, you won't get the achievement.

3. Encountering the Hunter
During the game you must fight the Hunter 3 times. In two of them you must use your rifle or crossbow against him. Be careful NOT to hit any of the squirrels with your weapon - you can simply kick them out of your way. When you fight him the second time, Deadra will shoot some of the squirrels. That's fine, it doesn't do anything with your achievement progress.

4. Encountering the statue people in the End World
At the very beginning of the End World chapter, you will find a torch. You are allowed to use it to kill as many statue people and flying beholders as you like. You are free to use it as a melee weapon as well as shooting projectiles with it.

5. Encountering the carnivorous flower in the sewers
When you try to sneak your way to the streets of Halstedom, you will find yourself in a dark sewer system. Here, a carnivorous plant will block your path twice. The first time, you only have to wait for it to go away, but the second time you have to shoot at it to chase it away. One shot in the flower should do the trick.

6. Encountering enemies in high places, No. 1
After you've emerged from the sewer system and get discovered by Onpa, you will have to fight a lots of enemies in the narrow street. 2 armed enemies will spawn on wooden beams above street level. You have no other option, but to shoot them, so you are allowed to do so. Be careful not to shoot any of the enemies beside these two.

7. Encountering enemies in high places, No. 2
Before the first battle with Father-Mother, you'll have to fight 5 of his children. 3 of them (Pott, Onpa and Gastornis) will arrive through a door on the ground level, but Rimat and Xetse stays on the balcony above you. You have no other choice, but to use the grenade launcher to dispose of them, so you are allowed to use the weapon. Only shoot them after you've dealt with the 3 ground floor enemies, as the grenade might bounce off the balcony and damage enemies on the ground floor.

8. Encountering Father-Mother
You will have to fight Father-Mother twice. In both cases, you are allowed to use the Dual Fishgun to shoot at Father-Mother's legs. Be careful not to shoot at common enemies during the second fight and don't shoot at Father-Mother while she is on her knees. Also at the end of the final battle, you are allowed to smash Father-Mother with the hammer.

9. Encountering enemies in high places, No. 3
Prior to the last battle, you return to the gates of Halstedom once more. You'll have to fight almost every common enemy you've encountered before, with the exception of Tsekung (the guy with the beard and a spiky helmet) and Mechanic (the bald guy with the black eye). These two are up above the gate, trying to prevent Golem from opening it. After you've beaten all enemies on the ground level, you have no choice but to shoot Tsekung and Mechanic, so you are allowed to shoot them - but only them.
Danger Zones
There are some parts of the game where players are in grave danger of failing the achievement.

1. In the beginning of the game, after you've recovered from passing out after the gate, Bugbirds will attack you. Don't shoot at them, you can easily kick them after doding their leaping attacks.

2. After you've escaped Halstedom the first time, you will find yourself on a path out of the city with a Crossbow. Throw your weapon away at the start: use your kicks and punches to get rid of the attacking crabs and rath birds.

3. In the Corwid Woods, where you fight Helim twice, rath birds will appear. Use your punches and kicks against them.

4. In the desert where you are hunting rabbits, drop your Dual Fishguns. You can use your kicks to kill the rabbits. They are rather fast, indeed, but it's the only way of not failing the achievement. Also use your fists against the flying beetles.

5. I've already mentioned this in the EXCEPTIONS section, but I'll put it here as well just in case: during the fights with the Hunter, don't shoot at the squirrels. If you don't feel like evading them, simply kick them.

6. After you first encounter Jsaj (the red-haired thief, also a member of the Northern Gate Gang), he will send bugbirds to attack you. As before, don't shoot the bugbirds, but kick them.

7. After rescuing Golem, you will find yourself on a boat in a narrow passage. On two occasions, a few desert people will attack you from the ridge by throwing stones at you. You only have to dodge their stones, no need to shoot at them. Deadra will do this for you (albeit she's not very effective), and after you cross a certain point, the desert people will die (scripted).

8. You will encounter Chneero, the one-man Corwid music band after the boat scene. You can actually beat him without weapons. Use your running elbow smash on him, and sometimes you can hit him with an uppercut in a way you do against stunned opponents. He's not a hard enemy, as your health regenerates while you are near him.

9. After the battle with Chneero, you'll have to fight Gabel and a few rath birds. Just as before, use your punches and kicks against the rath birds.

10. When you are to hunt rabbits the second time - just as before - kick the rabbits instead of shooting them. Also use your fists against the flying beetles.

11. I've mentioned this one too, in the EXCEPTIONS section, but I'll put it here as well just in case: when you are in the sewer system beneath Halstedom, only shoot at the second carnivorous plant blocking your way. The first one will move away eventually. The second one blocking your way has to be shot only once in the flower.

12. When you are at the coast where the big sea creature has been washed ashore, you will encounter the Hunter the second time. Several crabs will emerge from the sand to attack you, but you only have to kick them - just as you have to kick the squirrels the Hunter throws at you.
Conclusion
If you have completed the game in the way mentioned in this guide, you have completed the (according to most players) hardest achievement in the game. The achievement pops up right after the credits have started to roll.

I hope this guide was any use of you, fellow Zenos. The methods in this guide is the way I myself completed the game, and earned the achievement. I might be too strict in some parts - some people say you are allowed to shoot at the desert people during the boat scene - but I didn't want to risk failing the achievement. So if you follow this guide, you will surely get 'Street Fighter'.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comments section below.

Cheers,
LaLee

thank you very much for this guide, did it first try!
Something I "found out" you can beat father mother fists only, just strafe around in a circle and they can hit you, youll only need to get them to their knees when their hp is 0 (so the cutscenes can play)

Hello there Copper, is it ok if enemies shoot other enemies or will that invalidate?
Copper 14 Jul, 2018 @ 4:35pm
Hello again. Copper here, reporting for duty :) I just finished the game. AGAIN. And i can confirm that re-loading does the job right, you can still get the achiv. In conclusion, is it worth it? In my opinion no, because it takes away fun of using and abusing weapons. I personally enjoyed the game much more with them than just going all in melee. But it was good anyway. I hope this info helps somebody someday. Signing off now, cheers.

Thank you very much for your respond! I too think that it would be just ridiculous to start a new game over every mistake like this. Anyway, i will finish the game, see if i get the achiv and then report back here.

Hey there, Copper!
I do believe it's okay to re-load a previous save and still get the achievement. As long as your last save is before the point that you had used any weapons or such.

Hi there, i have a question. If you accidentally forgot about the terms of this achievement and used any kind of weapon on regular enemies, can you load your last save to re-do it and then continue playing? Thanks.

You are most welcome. I had some trouble figuring out the logic of this achievement too at first. I'm glad it helped you and congrats to your achievement! :)

Thank you so much for this guide! This achievement was one I wanted to get as a challange to myself, but wasnt sure what the game considered a "absolutely necessary" moment to use a weapon, or what would count as ruining this achievement. Thanks to your help I have this achievement now! :wrynhappy:
