For example, on my old account, I max tiered the M21 sniper rifle because I'm a fan of the M14 platform and the scope is one of the best in the game. This put it above par of the VSS (damage-wise), to put it into perspective. It will never compete with the OSV96 and M82 though which come next and remind me of premium items. The unlock chain only makes sense up to tier 10 IMO and then it starts getting wild.
At least ending with tier 10 would follow the same logic as other games that give weapons/items a "tier" and 10 is the best. Even though the unlock tree actually goes up to tier 12. I know, it's confusing and doesn't make any sense. Case in point: if there is an item you like, you can upgrade it as much as you want, TO THAT POINT.
