Complete Walkthrough: Goodbye Deponia

I was looking for a complete walkthrough for this game but could not find one. So I wrote this up as I went through. Maybe it will be of some use to others as well.

Usage Notes for this Walkthrough
This is a complete but brief walkthrough for the entire game. This means I will tell you what you have to do, but not WHY. I strongly suggest you play the game for yourself and only consult this walkthrough if you are really stuck.

  • Whenever a new item is first acquired, its name is underlined

  • All minigames' solutions are given in text format only

  • Achievements are not mentioned, see other community guides for help with those

  • "Talk to ..." usually means go through ALL available options

  • "Switch to ..." (in Chapter 5) means either you have to do it manually or it happens automatically

  • Chapter 5 is very long; I had to split it in two sections because of Steam's space restrictions per section

  • Feel free to post any remarks, suggestions, corrections in the comments
Chapter 1 (Bozo's Cutter / Organon Cruiser)
  • follow Goal on Deck
  • go to the Prow
  • go to the Stern
  • go to the Side Wall
  • jump onto one of the signals before it hits you
  • talk to Goal
  • fiddle with the crane fitting
  • unscrew the screws
  • talk to the Organon
  • talk to Barry
  • fire the Cannon
  • push the button
  • pull the lever (speed up)
  • pull the lever 2 more times
  • grab the Fire Axe
  • grab the Hose and attach it to the Cannon
  • fire the Cannon
  • climb the Hose
  • sever the hose with the Axe
Chapter 2: Hotel Menetekel
  • go down to the Hotel Menetekel
  • go through the first door on your left (Reception)
  • ring the bell and talk to the receptionist
  • ask for your friends Room Key #5
  • go behind the reception area to find the Restaurant
  • take the 3 items here: Salt Shaker, Pepper Shaker, Cork Screw
  • fiddle with the coffee grinder to get some Dust
  • you may also fiddle with the painting to reveal the Nut behind it
  • leave the Restaurant and the reception
  • once back outside, go to the toilet door at the bottom of the screen
  • talk to the time traveller who is inside
  • go through the door that is roughly above the toilet (Rooms)
  • use your room key on the door on the right side of the screen and enter (Doc's Room)
  • talk to Doc, talk to Bozo, then grab Bozo's Bag
  • use Bozo's Bag in your inventory to find Shampoo
  • leave Doc's room
  • now visit each of the rooms on the other side of the corridor in whatever order you like
  • in the Seer's room, talk to the Seer and grab his Toothpaste
  • in the Closet, grab the PillowCase
  • in the Dark room, talk to the ghost and then fiddle with the plates on the ground, you will pick up a Fish Knife
  • go back to the outside and then through the remaining door left of the toilet (Laundry)
  • talk to the cultists and grab Bozo's Suit as well as the Coathanger, then leave
  • go back up to the Reception, where Cletus and Oppenbot have just arrived
  • go to the Restaurant and exchange Cletus' Bag with Bozo's Bag from your inventory
  • use Cletus' Bag in your inventory to find Paper Money (you don't need to exchange the bags again)
  • go back outside and give the Paper Money to the time traveller occupying the toilet; he will leave after giving you a Coin
  • open the toilet door, look at the toilet bowl and try to flush, also grab the Toilet Paper
  • use the Toilet Paper with the Coin to make it smaller
  • go back to the corridor with the Rooms
  • use one of the stairs on the right to find the Pie Vending Machine
  • feed it the coin to get a Pie
  • next to the machine there is the heater; solve the puzzle ( Diagonal, Lever, Middle, Left, Diagonal, Left, Side)
  • exit through the door behind the heater
  • you will find a Trash Bin with a Pelican inside
  • use your Salt Shaker on it to make it move out of the Trash Bin
  • use the Coathanger on the Pelican so it can't snap at you, then grab the Fish from it's throat pouch
  • use the Fish Knife on the Fish to get the Scales
  • go to the Seer's Room and place the Scales in the Seer's Robe, then talk to him and tell him he "looks fine"
  • give him the Shampoo; he will usher you out so that he can take a shower
  • go to the Dark Room, where you can now move past the Ghost, so you can climb out the window
  • look into the Seer's Room and grab the Tarantula Jar
  • use the Corkscrew on the Tarantula Jar to get the Empty Jar and the Cork
  • use the Cork on the Leak in the pipe above the window to the Dark Room
  • leave the way you came, all the way back outside to the toilet
  • flush the toilet, then grab the Urinal Cake from the bowl
  • now add Pepper, Urinal Cake, Coffee Dust and Toothpaste to the Pie
  • go to Doc's Room
  • you can tell Doc that Cletus is next door if you want, then give the Pie to Bozo
  • then give him his suit to receive Bozo's Towel
  • go to the Dark Room and grab the Fitted Sheet
  • go to the Seer's Room and use the Pillowcase on his robe, then talk to him and again tell him he "looks fine"
  • you will again be ushered out of the room so he can take a shower; this time, go back inside and grab the Seer's Coat
  • go to the Laundry and give them the three relics (Pillowcase, Bozo's Towel and the Fitted Sheet)
    If you want to use my solution for the upcoming minigame, you need to hand these items to the cultists in the given order, otherwise the starting position is different and the given solution does not fit any more.
  • play the laundry minigame ( Pillowcase, Towel, Sheet, Cletus' Clothes, Rufus, Pillowcase, Towel, Sheet)
  • receive Cletus' Clothes
  • put them on and go to Doc's Room, where you can now grab the 1/3 Screwdriver
  • use the intercom, claiming you are in Room 1, and ask for your assistant
  • leave Doc's Room and go down to the Pie Vending Machine for a moment; you will see Oppenbot talking to Cletus, while you slip out to the Reception
  • talk to the receptionist; change into Rufus' clothes and talk to the receptionist again; Oppenbot will return
  • go to the Restaurant and use the 1/3 Screwdriver on the Nut twice to set the clock to noon
  • go to Doc's Room and use the intercom, claiming you are from Room #1, and say you "would like to dine"
  • Cletus will make his way to the Restaurant; change into Cletus' Clothes and go talk to the Receptionist to get Room Key #9
  • look at the key in your inventory, then give it back to the Receptionist.
  • You find yourself in the restaurant. Use the 1/3 Screwdriver on the Nut twice again so that Cletus gets the wrong key
  • talk to the receptionist and give him Room Key #5
  • once again use the 1/3 Screwdriver on the Nut twice, then talk to the Receptionist to get the correct key Room Key #1
  • enter Room #1 and grag Cletus' Bag
  • hide in Cletus' closet area and grab the Mothballs and Carpet Cleaner
  • combine the Carpet Cleaner with the Toothpaste to get Chloroform Paste
  • "use" the mirror to get a closer look and then use the 1/3 Screwdriver on the bolt there
  • exchange the two pastes and put the mirror back in place
  • put a Mothball into the pipe
  • use the mirror to trigger the next minigame: you have to mimic Cletus' movements with the toothbrush (this is easiest if you focus only on his toothbrush and make small movements with your mouse on top of it).
  • give one of the Bags to Oppenbot
  • go to the Reception
  • go to Doc's Room
  • yet another minigame (Seer's Room, Seer's Room, Pie Vending Machine)
Chapter 3: Organon Cruiser
  • use the bed button
  • remove the mattress
  • grab the Slatted Frame
  • grab the Letter Opener
  • use the drawer button and grab the Shoes
  • open the left door and grab a cup of Coffee
  • open the closet and place the Shoes in it
  • use the Letter Opener to open the air duct
  • place the Slatted Frame on the open air duct
  • use the door button and talk to the Organon guard, making him inspect the room
  • once he climbs into the air duct, use the drawer button, then use the bed button
  • crawl into the air duct and pour Coffee onto the door mat
  • back out of the air duct, then leave the cabin
  • pour Coffee onto the door mat here as well, tidy bot will come to you
  • place the Coffee cup on tidy bot, then use the Letter Opener on it
  • go back into your cabin, get another cup of Coffee, then crawl into the air duct and pour Coffee onto the door mat there once again
  • pour Coffee into tidy bot from where you are
  • get out of the air duct and out of the cabin, follow the cofeee trail all the way to the core
  • solve the minigame
    I've given each single step you have to take. If you dont follow them precisely, later steps may not work any more
    R = right, L = left, U = up, D = down

    Terminal 1: 4xR, U, R, 2xU, L, R, D, L, U, 3xL, L, D, U, R; talk to Goal;
    Terminal 2: 3xD, 2xR, 2xL, U, 4xR, L, D, L, U, 2xR, U, D, L, U, R, U, L, U, 3xL, D, U, 3xR; talk to Goal again;
    Terminal 3: 3xL, D, L, 2xD, R, 2xU, R, U, 2xR; talk to Goal; while she walks: L, R, D, R, D; talk to her again.


  • ask for a last cup of Coffee as your final request
  • exit to the right
  • hide in the "good hiding place"
  • keep pressing buttons
Chapter 4: Hell?
  • pick up Yin and place it in the indentation, press the button, die
  • pick up Yin
  • go to the right side of the platform, stepping onto a reddish tile
  • place Yin on the odd floor panel
  • grab the Power Inverter
  • place the power inverter in the indentation
  • press the button
  • go down
  • do the minigame to arrange the fuses correctly and you will "survive" this ride ( freeze, saw, laser, fire, club)
  • grab the Bat, then go towards the light
  • leave the room and see ... death?
  • go through the only other doorway to the Residence
  • grab the Oil Bottle, the Olives, the Water Cooler and the Sack of Beans
  • put the Olives into the olive mill and grab the Olive Oil
  • try to open the door, then use the Bat on it, go through the door and across to the other side
  • talk to "death"
  • smash the beams
  • follow Hermes
  • go to the Residence and down from there to the time clock, grab the Time Card
  • go back to where Goal is and look into the Pipe on the left
  • use the Time Card with the vampire platypus there
  • go back to the time clock and use the Time Card, grab the Garlic
  • back to the pipe with the vampire platypus, feed it the Garlic and then grab the Platypus Eggs
  • go to the food truck and use the Olive Oil on its door so you can open it
  • grab the Fryer Grease, Bag of Fries, Iodized Salt and Swill-o-Fizz from the food truck
  • go back to the Conveyor Belt and dump everything from your inventory into the funnel
  • go back to where Goal is and use the console
  • set the dial on the left to "III"
  • use the purple button to select "Hermes"
  • start the clone process by pulling the lever on the right
  • follow the three Hermes clones, then talk to Hermes the Third to get Goal's Brain Scan
  • go back to where Goal is, use the console and the brain scan will be read in automatically
  • set the dial to "I" and use the lever to clone Goal
  • interact with the clones to get the new interface
  • select the right (blue) Rufus and use the Nucleic Acid from his inventory with one of the other Rufuses
  • select the left (green) Rufus and try to grab the Nucleic Acid
Chapter 5: Porta Fisco (Part 1)
Had to split this Chapter in two, due to space constraints
    select middle (red) Rufus and talk to the Mooks
  • use the Rotary clothes dryer twice so the Romper is next to you, then use it to get a Lollipop from Mrs Mook
  • open the mailman's bag, then take the Letter
  • enter the house
  • talk to Grandpa Bozo and Mama Bozo
  • head to Bozo's Bedroom and grab the Doctor's Referral from his coat, then head back downstairs
  • give the Lollipop to Baby Bozo, then grab the Baby Phone and head out
  • go downstairs after Baby Bozo
  • talk to the Bread Wrap Woman
  • grab the Sign next to her stand
  • go to the Editor's Office (middle stairs)
  • grab the Paper, Printer's Ink and Metal Type "Yrk", then talk to Barry (Finger Focus) and head back up
  • now go to the Rope Store (right stairs)
  • grab the Flyer and go back down
  • combine the Metal Type "Yrk" with the Flyer Weighted Flyer
  • combine the Paper with the Printer's Ink Blackened Paper
  • exit to the right (Rebel Camp)
  • grab the Antenna Fork
  • talk to the two outside, then try to get through the gate
  • use the Finger Focus on Baby Bozo in the background
  • talk to Bambina and Lotti again about Bozo and then about the tattoo

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • hold space bar and find the "???" in the middle of the lower part of the screen, then grab it (Pacifier)
  • give the Pacifier to Goal to quiet her
  • then identify the other "???" by using each of them once
  • grab the Brush from the left and the Branch from up top
  • place the Brush in the Crevice and use the Branch with it

    switch to the right Rufus (blue)
  • go through the pipe and push the button

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • use the Turnstile
  • go through the new passage on the left (Pipe Forest)
  • talk to the bottle witch and then move through the passage on her left (Leper Colony)
  • climb the Rung and talk to Goon, then look at the Storm Drain Grate, you can now exchange items between green and red Rufus

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • hand the Blackened Paper to left rufus
  • go to the Therapist's office and give him the Doctor's Referral
  • tell him you're not just there to chat, he will do a Rorschach test with you
  • whichever answer you choose on the 2nd picture, you have to pick in the following step:

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • go down the rung and talk to the Creep, entering his van
  • use the Blackened Paper with the furry animal
  • when Rusty talks to you, select the same option as above and get the Imprint
  • hand the Imprint back to middle Rufus

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • go to the Rebel Camp and give the Imprint to Bambina and Lotti
  • grab the Deck Chair and the Crowbar
  • talk to Lotti
  • hand the Crowbar to left Rufus (green)

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • stand above the rung and talk to the children twice
  • use the Crowbar on the crate
  • grab the Bananas
  • go down and give the Banana to the "Monkey"
  • grab the Fez
  • try to grab the Crank
  • give the Fez back
  • grab the Crank
  • place the Crank in the Jack and use it

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • talk to Goon and June
  • give them the Deck Chair and get the Space Heater in return

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • use the crank a 2nd time
  • use the crank release button
  • give the crank back to the "Monkey"
  • grab the Fez and give it to Sad June
  • go down the rung and to the Pipe Forest
  • tell the Bottle Witch about the new Monkey and follow her
  • grab the 5 Zlottis and give them to middle Rufus (red)

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • talk to Goon
  • show him the Sign you took from the burrito stand earlier
  • give the 5 Zlottis to Goon and get Four XXL Bread Wraps
  • give those to left Rufus (green)
  • also hand him the Space Heater and the Antenna Fork

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • attempt to go into the pub and be stopped by the Bouncer
  • go to the Pipe Forest and then through the middle passage (Campsite)
  • talk to the children
  • place the Space Heater in the "ideal spot for a campsite"
  • put the plug in the lower outlet
  • go up and push the Lever
  • go back down plug the Antenna Fork into the top outlet
  • go down, give the Antenna Fork to Rusty, then go back up and use the Lever again
  • grab the Fuse and place it in the bottom socket
  • talk to the children again
  • use the Four XXL bread wraps on them
  • adjust the antenna and turn on the TV

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • go to the Rebel Camp
  • enter the tank
  • open the locker door and grab the Lunchbox
  • talk to Toni and fail to drive her mad
  • use the Babyphone on the CB radio
  • give the Letter to Bambina
  • look at the Lunchbox to reveal the Hormones inside
  • go to Casa Bozo and grab the Gravy from the pot
  • also take the Mother's Milk
  • hand the Gravy, Hormones, Mother's Milk as well as the Babyphone to left Rufus (green)

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • use the Gravy on the kids (Leftover Soup)
  • go through the Pipe Forest and the Leper Colony to the pub
  • grab the three Tankards and the Advertising Board
  • fill the Tankards with Swill (lefternmost tap)
  • exit the pub and go to the Pipe Forest
  • talk to the Bottle Witch about mushrooms, then show her the Advertising Board
  • grab the Mushroom from her foot
  • back to the pub, combine Hormones, Mother's Milk and Mushroom with a Tankard full of Swill to get the three different flavours
  • hand the correct Tankard to each of the customers (Mushroom to the Plumber, Hair Growth to the Delivery Man, Hormone to the Fruit Seller.. )
  • go back inside and grab the Picture of Elysium
  • transfer the Picture and the Leftover Soup to middle Rufus (red)

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • go to the Rebel Camp, into the tank and into the cockpit

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • use the Babyphone

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • go to the Rope Store
  • throw the Weighted Flyer towards the Therapist's Office

    switch to right Rufus (blue) to watch the cutscene
  • touch the blanket to reveal Cletus
  • talk to him
  • talk to the Cell Guard
  • grab the Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Urinal Cake as well as the Breakfast (Pepper, Coffee, Bagel)
  • spill Coffee on the Rug
  • grab the Dust from tidybot's dustbag
  • combine the Bagel with Pepper, Toothpaste, Dust and Urinal Cake
  • give the Bagel to Cletus and talk to the guard once more
  • exit through the passage and take the Flyer off the wall

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • go to the Rebel Camp, into the tank and into the cockpit
  • talk to Toni and grab the Prescription
  • bring it to the Rope Salesman to get Rope
  • go to the Editor's Office and talk to Barry
  • put the Rope onto the Hook
  • click on Baby Bozo to shoo him, then climb onto the Support beam
  • point to the end of the rope
  • show Bozo the three pictures to get the correct reactions
  • go to the Therapist and "play the card game again", now answering with Bozo's reactions
    1) Elysium is going to crash into Deponia
    2) That's terrible why would you show me something like that
    3) That's the devil
Chapter 5: Porta Fisco (Part 2)
  • open the medicine cabinet and grab the Antidepressants and the Emetic
  • put the Antidepressants in the Leftover Soup, then go to Bozo
  • Baby Bozo has eaten all the Leftover Soup, give it the Emetic
  • hold Baby Bozo over Bozo
  • grab the Piggy Bank
  • enter the Rebel Camp

    switch to right Rufus (blue)
  • remove the cover to reveal a Terminal
  • lift the crate and grab an Application Form
  • put the "Yrk" into the Terminal
  • place the Application Form in the Terminal and fill it out (pick the second option, the Screwdriver)
  • move through the crawl space and you end up near Argus, then move on
  • talk to Janosch and borrow his Screwdriver
  • use the screwdriver on the pipe to the left to get a Pneumatic Mail Cartridge
  • put the Application Form inside
  • go back through the crawl space and place the Cartridge in the mail chute
  • receive Screwdriver
  • fill out and send another application form, this time picking the first option (Sanitary Service)
  • go back to where Janosch is and grab the Organon Outfit from the captive
  • put it on and move back through the crawl space
  • use the door sensor to open the medbay
  • perform surgery minigame
    (lungs: turn once, place highest in the thorax;
    heart: place on the right/middle of the thorax without turning;
    that random pink organ: turn 3x, then place on the left side next to the heart;
    intestine: turn 2x then place at the bottom of the thorax;
    stomach: turn 1x then place on top of the right side of the intestine
    )
  • go back to where the rest of the resistance is
  • give the Screwdriver to Cletus
  • go back to where the Application Terminal is and put the (empty) cartridge in the mail chute
  • go back to where the resistance is
  • give the Tapeworm to Cowboy Dodo
  • minigame (D, D, R, U, L, D, U, L, D, R, R, U, L, D, R, U, L, L, D, D)

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • transfer Piggy Bank and Elysium Picture to left Rufus (green)

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • give the Piggy Bank to barkeep to get the Nucleic Acid
  • go to where you left the children
  • stand beside the window

    switch to right Rufus (blue)
  • go back to where the Terminal is
  • put on the Organon Outfit
  • fire the Cannon

    switch to middle Rufus (red)
  • go through the Door
  • meet the new General

    switch to right Rufus (blue)
  • go through the goods transporter
  • go through the pipe and look at the storm drain (you can now exchange items between blue and green Rufus as well)

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • transfer Elysium Picture to right Rufus (blue)

    switch to right Rufus (blue)
  • go through the pipe
  • SAVE YOUR GAME, THERE IS A BUG COMING UP THAT CAN CRASH THE GAME
  • place the Elysium Picture on the barrel and climb in
  • once in the barrel, talk to Oppenbot to get his attention
    (if you click anywhere else, the game may crash!)

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • go through the Pipe on the right side of the window
  • go through the Whirlpool

    switch to right Rufus (blue)
  • push the button
  • go through the door on the right
  • grab the Dictaphone
  • hide under the desk
  • "use" the dictaphone and press eject
  • grab the Mini Cartridge
  • put the (empty) Dictaphone back on the desk
  • you heard the man, talk to him and tell him the number code (which is of course incorrect)
  • grab the Dictaphone
  • go to the window, open it and go out
  • place the Mini Cartridge back in the Dictaphone and push Play (4473)
  • push Record and use the last option (it fell behind the desk)
  • go back in and behind the desk
  • place the Dictaphone (with your recorded message) on the desk again
  • turn off the alarm with the button
  • go to the other window near the safe, open it and enter
  • open the safe
  • try again, then grab the Cartridge with the Ascension codes
  • exit
  • exit again

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • give the Nucleic Acid to Goaly

    switch to right Rufus (blue)
  • place the Cartridge in the Code entry

    switch to other two Rufuses (green/red)
  • talk to Seagull

    switch to left Rufus (green)
  • pull the plug until Seagull goes crazy

    switch to right Rufus (blue)
  • jump

    switch to the other two Rufuses
  • chat with Seagull
  • enter the tank
  • touch the Wound
  • pull the Gas Lever
  • talk to Doc
  • grab the Pen
  • use it on the paper
  • pull the ignition
  • push the button
  • talk to the Deponians
  • pull the ignition again
Chapter 6: Highboat
  • talk to the Organons and get them to stand to attention
  • exit
  • pull the lever down
  • pull it again to stop
  • use the pedal
  • take out the Throttle valve
  • use the pedal again, then use the lever to go down again
  • while going down with an open hatch, stop
  • exit to the right
  • give a speech
  • minigame
    (if the lowest note available is c, the song goes as follows: cdefecegdded)
  • exit
  • grab the Antenna and use it on the Cable
  • use the Antenna on the Transmitter
  • talk to Cletus
  • talk to Argus
  • jump after "two"
  • grab any Screw
  • put it in the hole in the center of the catwalk
  • remove all the other Screws
  • walk to the left and grab the Transmitter
  • put a Screw in the lower left hole (the only one you can reach)
  • hold the Transmitter into the Rotor
  • talk to Argus
  • talk to Goal, keep picking the bottom option
  • let go

Hey, man, be blessed forever to allow me to finish those games with your precise guides. With no guides I am stuck every screen and unable to even play. Those Daedelic games can give a headache without a walktrhough...THANKS FOR YOUR WORK.

Jumping from talk to Barry to hang on a hook and baby bozo makes zero sense to me. Also miraculously I'm supposed to have the devil picture.

Had to take a peek here a few times, I get stuck in P&C games too often. Thanks for the guide! :)
