Loot
There are many different types of loot you can find throughout the necropolis involving gems, crafting materials, food, potions, scrolls, weapons and armor, and more.

This might be a common thing people would already know through their experiences playing 'The Legend of Zelda' but it's still worth mentioning. Did you know you can break pots in the necropolis?

Pots yield gems, crafting materials, sometimes food, sometimes potions, and sometimes scrolls. They might also yield over some weapons but I've never seen that. You sometimes might get a lot of gems or crafting materials or a little amount like I did here.

Pots aren't the only things you can break for the same loot, piles of skeleton bones can also be broken open to earn the same things.

There are also specific types of items you can interact with that will also fork over some goodies like baskets of drinks.

These baskets can get you some extra gems in your pockets, some more crafting materials, potions, sometimes food, and sometimes scrolls. These baskets can be found all throughout the necropolis, sometimes in hidden locations so keep your eyes piled for them.

Like baskets, there is another type of food dispenser you can interact with in the necropolis, most commonly found at abandoned stands and easily passible as a prop item just there for looks.

These barrels of meat can yield, well, food. From rotten to Iron, they're always worth a check for some free healing items.

Another way to make a few extra gems and maybe some meat is the most risky one. When dealing with red crystal, there are smaller red spikes that surround it which you can break causing gems and maybe even some meat come out (somehow).

Of course you'll need to deal with the red phantoms that spawn unless you just run in there, break them, collect, and run like hell out of there. Those red phantoms sure hit hard so make sure you've either got a strong weapon or you know how to block, dodge, and manage your stamina.
Merchants
The necropolis isn't all bad, in fact, there are multiple merchants just waiting to take your hard earned gems to sell you some goods they've found! You'll be able to find not one but three of these guys along your travels and struggles.

The first one, 'the old man', is on every level of the necropolis just before you take the elevator down to the next level.

It's a big room and he's in there somewhere. He sells potions, foods, weapons, and dyes. Dyes are a permanent unlockable that does nothing but change the colour of your character. They're sold for the special pyramid coins you get for completing challenges or dying and getting far enough to earn one out of pity.

The second one can be found in the necropolis by chance. Meaning, he might not be on every level. Hell, you might not even see him till your seventh run!

This is 'the sewer monster' or 'Mr. handy' for a lighter less, monstery feel for the poor guy. All he wants to do is sell you goods he's probably collected off of dead travellers for a high price. He sells weapons, armor, and potions. To find him, look for smoke coming from those triangular vents along with some humming. He's a good guy I swear!

Finally, my favourite merchant of them all, 'The chicken' or the 'Chest merchant'.

Not only does he sell the most goods but he sells blueprints for other goods he doesn't have! Got lots of crafting materials filling your pockets? Not a problem for him, he'll give you the recipe to craft new bombs and potions along with taking some of your gems as well! It's a win-win! Not only that but come on, look at the guy, he's adorable! The first time I found him, he scared my pants off! I was still new to the game and thought it was going to be a mimic that was going to eat me up and insta kill me. I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome, not being eaten is always good! Unless you're into that kind of thing. Keep an ear out for clucking noises and your eyes open for a chest that slightly opens with his beak peeping out to find this little guy.
Interactions
Unlike the crates of glass and bags of meat, there are a few other things you can find in the necropolis that can heal you or replenish your hunger. These are pretty rare but when you do find them it's a sign from the pyramid god that he wants you to succeed! That or he feels sorry for you, I'm not quite sure to be honest.

  • Healing fountain

As the title says, it heals you, fully. Sitting at a solid 1HP and found one of these? Lucky you, you're in tip top shape now! Just, don't run head first to them. Why you ask? Oh no reason, no reason at all. (Read 'Traps' tab)

  • Broken Crystals

To be honest, I have no idea how these work. All I know is that they either heal you or recover your stamina. I thought it had something to do with their colour or what you needed more but I have no clue. Either one, whenever you see them, get them. They help nevertheless.

  • Illusorily Walls

Yay! Dark Souls! These guys are super uncommon and are usually spoiled for you by the sounds of one of the merchants. (The one that hides in a chest) Walk up to a wall with text on it and hope it's a secret door. These usually hold great treasures and will usually set you up for a good few levels. Lucky for you, there is one literally at the start of every game you play. After you deal with the skeletons at the start of the game, go to the text on the wall and you'll get a few more starting items to help you out. It's always there so take advantage of that. (according to kittehoverlord this is no longer in the game as the starting area is different) I've also noticed that if you see more than one text on a single wall then there is no illusorily wall there. There can only be one piece of text for there to be a chance of one there.

(The text is not always the same for these walls)

  • Blessing of the Gods

Behind every 200 gem door is an elevator leading to the next level, a merchant, a codex station, and one of these bad boys. If you have enough gems for it, you can buy a health upgrade. It's like paying god for more health! In fact, that's exactly what it is. What could be better than that!
    Prices are as follow:
    • Upgrade 1: 500 gems
    • Upgrade 2: 1500 gems
The first two upgrades can be purchased if you go through both the left and right doors on level 1
    • Upgrade 3: 2500 gems
    • Upgrade 4: 3500 gems
Vermin
Throughout your travels in the necropolis have you ever seen those little creatures that don't fight back and wonder "hey, I want to kill it" Well you'd be lucky to know that if you did, you can find some sweet loot from them maybe! You too have a chance to win any item in the game! But only for a limited time offer. You see, if you don't kill these little guys they go away, poof, never to be seen again. You could have lost out on a tier 2 weapon on level 1! That would have at least lasted you all the way to level 4! Oh well, nothing you can do now but rethink your life choices.

There are multiple types of vermin you can find crawling around the necropolis.
  • Rat-trio

These guys mostly drop crafting materials, and gems. Standard stuff you'd find from a three headed rat.

  • Pyramid Scavengers
These guy are interesting, as scavengers of the necropolis, they indicate when they've gathered loot. They have three stages.

    • Empty

When empty, they drop nothing. You killed an innocent worker and got nothing for it. I hope you're happy with yourself you monster. (This also makes it so the process restarts and you'll find another empty one)

    • Full

When full, that means THEY GOT LOOT! GO NOW, KILL THEM BEFORE THEY GET AWAY! They drop lots of gems, sometimes crafting materials, and weapons. When you see them, hunt them down.

    • Oh man, I think I ate too much (Explosive)

      Run.
You can use them to kill enemies as they chase you till the end of time and blow up when they get close enough. Or you can just you know, swing at them once to kill them.

  • Little glowing fairy gremlin thing

Not worth killing but if you must, they drop gems, crafting materials, and sometimes bombs and potions. View 'Traps' section on why they're not worth killing.
Traps
There are a number of traps laying around the necropolis just waiting to get a stab at you. (literally) Traps just waiting to get a hold of you are as follows:
  • Spike traps

Commonly found together on the floor. Look for black squares with lots of holes in them. They activate by pressure but do not instantly attack. They want to gain your trust before striking your feet and nether region. Use the few seconds you have to jump so they don't activate and poke you.

  • Sword statue traps

Statues stand together, most commonly surrounding a chest or hiding in a corner for a sharp turn. These statues look like the complete pyramid golems holding a pyramid great sword that strikes you down once close enough. They have a half a second delay before they strike but avoid at all costs. Nothing good ever came from a statue holding a big weapon.

  • Hanging item traps

The most common one you'll never see coming. Hanging from chains above you out of your sight, waiting for you to walk under them so they can try to crush you or slice you in two. These trigger instantly with a sound queu only giving you half a second to dodge them or run like hell. They can be grouped up or it could just be one placed in the most random location ever. Tip for avoiding them, don't look down all the time, look up once in a while or when you're entering a new room and it seems oddly empty.

  • Shape shifters

These guys appear on levels 2 and up, when you start to enter the dreaded swamp tile sets. They look like little glowing fairies or gremlins (depending on how you see them) and can morph into a big lizard dude. They're strong both attacking and defensive wise. They're basically a punishment for picking on the little guys and killing them for goodies. Note on them, just don't even bother killing them to take the chance, it's really not worth it. Focus on the rat-trio and pyramid scavengers.

  • Explosive Pyramid Scavengers

They'll chase you till the end of time until you're dead or until you swing at them. They drop nothing and die in one shot of anything. Lure them into hoards of baddies for an effective explosion! Hey, you're going down, bring some guys with ya!

  • Booby trapped chests

These traps are pretty random, all they really do is spawn a handful of enemies before or as you're opening it. They're usually set on a chest that are out in the open and most people will just see it as a bunch of baddies guarding the chest. Kill the monsters and claim your reward.

  • Water serpent trap

By far the most interesting trap in the necropolis and the first one to make me scream of fear in a Skype-call with my co-op friend. Hiding in fountains that usually replenish health, these crafty guys really pack a punch. If you were low on health and saw a fountain, you'd be thanking the gods until this guy comes out and one shots you. To be fair, it is really hard for them to actually hit you as they can only attack from one direction per animation. Still though, it's a pretty scary trap. No way to avoid them, just hope they're not in your local waters.

Traps can be used to kill you but did you know they can also kill monsters in the necropolis as well? Monsters can trigger traps and loss HP when struck by them. This involves the spike traps, sword statue traps, hanging item traps, explosive pyramid scavengers, shape shifters, and the water serpent trap. Use this to your advantage and try luring some baddies when you're out numbered.
Other tid-bits
You take little to no fall damage (Unlike in Dark Souls), it is around 2.5% - 5% of damage depending on the height of the fall and how much health you currently have according to kittehoverlord

You can only have one Summon Sign Floor Marker at a time per person per room tile but they can be used over longer distances to track your progress, keeping track of where you've been.

Here is an image provided by Azureanl showcasing mulitple floor markers being placed.

There is currently friendly fire in the game but baddies can friendly fire each other as well to use that to your advantage. Not only that but some hate each other and will attack each other if you're not around or got there as they're duking it out.

To avoid friendly fire, the best way my friend and I found out is to split up.

@That One Loli the "summon signs" is basically a marker to let you know you've been there before. They're helpful in large maps and I called them that because they look like they have the same glow as the Dark Souls summon signs. For simplicity sake, I guess you can just call them markers or "X"s :winter2019happydog:
