How to use obtain and use all player Mystic Artes
By Ghost
Many of the Mystic Artes were not available on the original GCN due to spatial limitations: only Lloyd, Genis, Colette and Sheena could use theirs. However, this was changed in the PS2 and PS3 versions where they had space to re-include them. As some of the conditions for using them are a little bit convuluted, and not all returning players are going to be aware of some of the complicated conditions for obtaining them, I wanted to make a quick explanation for how you can perform and use all of the characters' most powerful and flashy moves.

Additionally, performing any one of these will unlock the achievement "Finality."

Lloyd Irving: Falcon's Crest
Story Progression Requirements:
  • Lloyd Irving has unlocked the "Eternal Swordsman" title.

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • Lloyd must be equipped with the Material Blade.
  • While HP is in the red (below 16%), press the Attack, Arte, and Guard Buttons all at the same time.
Genis Sage: Indignation Judgment
Arte Usage Pre-requisites:
  • At level 9, Genis learns Lightning.
  • Use Lightning at least 50 times. At or beyond Level 26 with a T-type build, Genis will learn Thunder Blade.
  • Use Thunder Blade at least 50 times. At or beyond Level 60 with a T-type build, Genis will learn Indignation.
  • Use Indignation at least 50 times.

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • While in Over Limit, cast Indignation.

Note:
The casting of Indignation needs to begin and end during Over Limit. The use of EX Skills like Concentrate make this easier.
Colette Brunel: Holy Judgment
Arte Usage Pre-Requisites:
  • After completing 3 seals in Sylvarant, Colette will learn Holy Song.
  • After entering the Tower of Salvation for the first time, Colette will learn Judgment.
  • Use Judgment 50 times.
  • Use Holy Song 50 times.

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • Cast either Judgment or Holy Song.

Note: Holy Judgment's activation is NOT guaranteed and activates randomly. Having a high luck stat may result in it activating more frequently, but I lack a way to confirm this.
Kratos Aurion: Shining Binds / Holy Binds
Story Progression Requirements:
  • In at least one playthrough, Kratos must have the first, second, or third highest affection level with Lloyd amongst all party members during the event in Flanoir. During the event in Flanoir, talk to Kratos (if Kratos isn't the first person, reject whoever is before him).
  • When Kratos rejoins the party, he will receive Judgment as an arte and a title.

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • One of the following two conditions must be true: 1) Lloyd is not participating in the battle; 2) Lloyd is not equipped with the Material Blade.
  • Kratos is equipped with the Flamberge.
  • While HP is in the red (below 16%), press Attack, Arte, and Guard at the same time.

Note: If you carry titles between saves into a NG+, Kratos can use Shining Binds during The Iselia Human Ranch. But because he won't rejoin the party again unless you talk to him in Flanoir in the NG+, it is of minor utility.
Raine Sage: Sacred Shine
Arte Usage Pre-Requisites:
  • At level 18, Raine will learn Photon.
  • Use Photon at least 50 times. At level 46, Raine will learn Ray (if T-type) or Holy Lance (if S-type).
  • If T-type, use Ray at least 100 times.
  • If S-type, use Holy Lance at least 100 times.

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • While in overlimit, cast Ray. Raine will activate Sacred Shine instead.
  • While in overlimit, cast Holy Lance. Raine will activate Sacred Shine instead.
Raine Sage: Fairy Circle
Arte Usage Pre-Requisites:
  • Use First Aid at least 50 times. At Level 26, if T-type, Raine will learn Nurse.
  • Use Nurse at least 50 times. At Level 41, if T-type, Raine will learn Healing Circle.
  • Use Healing Circle at least 50 times. At Level 50, if T-type, Raine will learn Revitalize.
  • Use Revitalize at least 100 times.

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • While in overlimit, cast Revitalize.
Sheena Fujibiyashi: Summon Fire
This is listed because you can learn it at two different times. After learning Summon: Water, you can return to the Triet Ruins and have Sheena learn Summon: Fire before going to the Tower of Salvation. This should be one of the last things you do before the Tower of Salvation, as Efreet isn't going to be a pushover the first time you fight him.

If you do not learn Summon: Fire, and S. Seal: Fire before the Tower of Salvation, you will have to wait until you permanently acquire the Rherairds.
Sheena Fujibiyashi: Summon Wind
This is listed because you can learn it at two different times. After learning Summon: Water, you can return to the Balacruf Mausoleum and have Sheena learn Summon: Wind before going to the Tower of Salvation. This should be one of the last things you do before the Tower of Salvation, as Slyph isn't going to be a pushover the first time you fight them. (I recommend a party of Lloyd/Colette, Sheena, Kratos, and Raine for this fight).

If you do not learn Summon: Wind, and S. Seal: Wind before the Tower of Salvation, you will have to wait until you permanently acquire the Rherairds.
Sheena Fujibiyashi: Summon Birth
As you progress through the game, Sheena will learn the ability to summon various beings. All of them are activated the same way:
  • While in Overlimit, cast Summon: ___.

However, of the ten different summons, you will obtain nine of them during the story. So instead, this section is going to tell you how to get the only optional summon in the game: Summon: Birth.
  • Progress through the game until you obtain the Derris Emblem (this is the VERY end of the story, just before the final boss).
  • Fly the Rheraids to Exire in Tethe'alla.
  • Go to the Chief's House, but instead of entering, run around the back.
  • Form a party of 4 that includes Sheena.
  • Equip 1 of these four characters with the Garnet.
  • Equip a second character with the Aquamarine.
  • Equip a third character with the Opal.
  • Equip the fourth character with the Ruby.
  • Examine the stone tablet.
  • Defeat Maxwell to learn Summon: Birth.

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • While in overlimit, cast Summon: Birth.
Presea Combatir: Infernal Ruin
Story Progression Requirements:
  • Presea must have received her Key Crest.
Arte Usage Pre-requisites:
  • Use Beast at least 100 times.

  • One of the following must be true: 1) Presea has equipped a Level 3 Ex-Gem set with the skill "Mighty Charge." 2) Presea has equipped a Level Max EX-Gem set with the skill "Mighty Charge."

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • While in Overlimit and under the effects of a "Mighty Charge" buff, use Beast.
Presea Combatir: Crimson Devastation
Story Progression Pre-Requisites:
  • Presea must have received her Key Crest.
Arte Usage Pre-Requisites:
  • Use Beast at least 200 times.

Equipment Pre-Requisites:
  • One of the following must be true: 1) Presea has equipped a Level 3 Ex-Gem set with the skill "Mighty Charge." 2) Presea has equipped a Level Max EX-Gem set with the skill "Mighty Charge."

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • All other party members are KO'd.
  • Health is in the red (below 16%).
  • While in Overlimit and under the effects of a "Mighty Charge" buff, use Beast.

Note that if you do not meet the first two Mid-Battle Conditions, but you do meet the third, you'll instead activate Infernal Ruin.
Zelos Wilder: Luminous Binds / Holy Binds
Arte Usage Pre-Requisites:
  • Use Demon Fang at least 50 times. At or beyond Level 15, Zelos will learn Double Demon Fang (if T-type) xor Fierce Demon Fang (if S-type).
  • At or beyond Level 23, Zelos will learn Light Spear.
  • Use Light Spear at least 50 times. At or beyond Level 43, Zelos will learn Victory Light Spear (if T-type) xor Light Spear Cannon (if S-type).
  • If T-type, Use Double Demon Fang and Victory Light Spear at least 50 times each. At or beyond Level 49, Zelos will learn Demon Spear.
  • If S-type, Use Fierce Demon Fang and Light Spear Cannon at least 50 times each. At or beyond Level 49, Zelos will learn Demon Spear.

  • If S-type, Use Fierce Demon Fang and Light Spear Cannon at least 50 times each. At or beyond Level 49, Zelos will learn Demon Spear.
  • Use Demon Spear at least 100 times.
  • Use Judgment at least 20 times.

Story Progression Pre-Requisites:
  • Clear the Tower of Salvation in Tethe'alla.

Mystic Arte Usage Pre-Requisite:
  • While in overlimit and with HP below 16%, use Demon Spear to activate his other Mystic Arte, Shining Binds. At the end of the first fight that Zelos uses Shining Binds, Zelos will learn Judgment.

Mid-Battle Conditions:
  • While in overlimit, cast Judgment.
Regal Bryant: Fanged Finality

@badbud87:

I'm going to assume that if Raine needs 100 usages of Ray she would probably need 100 for Holy Lance as well.

I'd like to mention that this guide is great! I only played this on GCN till now so I had no idea these were a thing. I noticed a couple things while playing with these Artes.

TLDR: Raine needs 100 uses of Ray(just like Revitalize) to cast Sacred Shine and, at least for Genis, the cast needs to start and finish during Over Limit

Raine's Sacred Shine did not cast when I cast Ray until her uses were over 100. When testing she had 72 uses and I couldn't make it work until I looked at other Artes and saw most required 100 uses, I worked her up to 100, got her in Over Limit and it worked just fine.

Genis' Indignation Judgment, I have the EX Skills on him for Concentrate, I had to control him myself, cast Indignation and mash A(controller) K(keyboard) for him to cast it before his Over Limit ended, even when the cast started while he was in Over Limit, if it ended before the cast was over it didn't turn into Indignation Judgment.

When casting Raine's Sacred Light/Shine, my OL ran out before the cast could finish, but she still managed to activate it. I guess that's a bit of an anti-frustration feature.

also got all the mystic artes excepts for fairy circle and infernal ruin (for some reason)

and of course Kratos basicly if Zelos so i dont have him yet

Also Kratos appearently has more range on attacks then Zelos, but lacks the Divine Judgment, if Kratos had Divine Judgment then i'd be obvious that i would chose him over Zelos, then again Kratos was just a b@d@$$ charecter in the time that i played for me while Zelos is well...Zelos.

@gabbermac: I don't recommend Kratos over Zelos in general, but there are some scenes, items, and titles you can ONLY get if you pick Kratos in Flanoir.
