Intro
Assassin's Creed III is an amazing game, one of the best out there and a fantastic conclusion to the Desmond era of the game series. Since I noticed there isn’t a Steam guide for the newely implemented achievements, I decided to create one myself. You can also check out my
review to see why I love this game so much.

There used to be a total of 64 achievements available for this game, through the Ubisoft Connect (formerly Uplay) platform. At 18.02.2025, they implemented 45 achievements on Steam for this game. The ones left out are the multiplayer ones it seems. A bit later they reduced the number to 44, because of a multiplayer achievement they forgot to "not include". Although I did work a lot for the multiplayer achievements on Ubisoft Connect, just before they turned the servers down (a huge accomplishment, given how low the pop was, and how buggy the mutliplayer was), and I'm sad to not see them brought here, I can understand the move, and can get past that, because they did not exist here in the first place. If they did, I would have been furious (for example the Counter-Strike situation, where we got from today to tomorrow all achievement removed).

I have 142 hours in the game at the moment of writing. It took me that long to complete it because I truly enjoyed myself and took my time. While the game can be fully "hunted" much faster, it's the kind of masterpiece you want to savor for as long as possible.
Roadmap
First of all, FYI, if you previously owned the game on Ubisoft Connect/Steam before achievements were implemented, any achievements you had already earned will automatically unlock the first time you launch the game.

I suggest not worrying about achievements at first. Fully enjoy the game content, do it your way, at your own pace, in whatever order you like. Make sure to complete all optional objectives in every sequence, collect everything, do all the side content, fully upgrade your ship and craft everything. Once you’ve hit 100% completion, come back to my guide and check which achievements you’re still missing. Even after completing everything in-game, there are a handful of achievements you’ll still need to go for. I don’t think this is the kind of game you should play with a guide open next to you.
(I never suggest anyone to do that in their first "experience", for that matter)

Story Achievements
Rude Awakening
Re-Enter the Animus.
This achievement is tied to the story and unlocks automatically after completing the tutorial section at the start of the game while playing as Desmond.

Daddy Dearest
Complete Present - Stadium.
You'll earn this story-based achievement after finishing the real-world section that follows Sequence 8.

Criss Cross
Complete Present - Skyscraper.
This achievement unlocks as part of the main story. It will trigger once you complete the real-world section after Sequence 5.

The End is Nigh

This is a progression-based achievement that pops once you’ve finished the real-world section following Sequence 10.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
Open the Temple Door and learn Desmond's fate.
This achievement is tied to the story and unlocks as you progress. Throughout the real-world sections, you’ll collect "batteries" that must be inserted into specific sockets in the temple. After placing them all and unlocking the final door at the end of Sequence 12, step through it to complete the story.

"Other" Achievements Part I
Perfectionist
Complete 100% of all main mission constraints.
This achievement requires completing all optional objectives in the story missions. Longtime Assassin’s Creed players will recognize this challenge. Fortunately, some missions allow you to complete optional objectives across multiple attempts, but many of the later missions, especially in the final sequences, demand perfection in a single run.

Keep in mind that the achievement Completionist requires completing every optional objective across all missions, but for this achievement, you only need to focus on the story missions.

For help, here’s a playlist of videos: click here. These should be the best resource for this (the videos are not mine, don't forget to thank the author with a Thumbs Up).

An Extraordinary Man
Complete the Encyclopedia of the Common Man.
This achievement is the one that’ll really test your patience.

The Encyclopedia of the Common Man requires you to document the various tasks performed by the settlers at your Homestead. It’s best to hold off on this achievement until after completing A Complete Set, as you’ll need every settler available to scan. Additionally, it’s recommended to finish all Homestead Missions first, since some activities won’t be available until then. By the time you hang up Achilles’s painting in the manor, all activities should be unlocked, so save this one until after that mission.

During Sequence 6, Achilles introduces you to scanning artisan tasks. To record an activity, target an artisan with RB/keyboard equivalent key for a few seconds. If the action is valid and unrecorded, it’ll count toward the achievement. If not, you’ll either get an error (meaning the action isn’t recordable) or nothing happens (which means you’ve already recorded it, even if from a different settler).

Use Eagle Vision, f an NPC glows gold, their action is scannable. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean you haven’t already recorded it, so double-check your progress.

Some artisans just refuse to work sometimes. Here’s why:
  • It’s nighttime – Everyone sleeps. Either wait it out or let your console idle until morning.
  • Their stockpile is full – For example, if you have a full store of wood, the lumberjacks won’t cut more. Sell some before trying again.
  • They’re involved in a special activity – Some artisans perform unique tasks away from their usual spots. If they’re missing, explore the Homestead.
  • An Interactive Conversation is active – If you see a small white speaker icon on the map, you must finish that conversation before those artisans return to work.
  • They’re taking a break – Some settlers will smoke, drink, or loop the same action endlessly. You can either wait around for them to switch tasks or fast-travel between Boston/New York and back to the Homestead to reset their actions.

You can track progress for each artisan in the Encyclopedia of the Common Man section of the mini-map. However, the tracker sometimes glitches visually in two ways:
  • “2/3 activities recorded” but the circle is filled in – If the circle is filled, that artisan is done, so ignore the number and move on.
  • “3/3 activities recorded” but the circle isn’t filled in – If the circle isn’t filled, then the number is wrong. You still need to record another activity from that artisan.

This achievement can be frustrating, but patience and a bit of fast traveling should get you through it!

Patent Not Pending
Craft one of Franklin's inventions to decorate your Manor.
To unlock Completionist, you’ll eventually need to craft all of Franklin’s inventions to decorate the Manor, but for this achievement, you only need to craft one of them.

Crafting can be done from a logbook at any General Store or inside the Homestead Manor. Before you can actually craft one of Franklin’s inventions, though, you need to have Blowing in the Wind completed, since each invention requires a full set of Ben Franklin’s Almanac pages. Once you’ve collected a full set and unlocked an invention recipe, you’re good to go, almost.

You’ll also need the right ingredients, which can be bought, crafted, or even stolen from rich citizens or guards in Boston and New York. On top of that, your artisans need to be leveled up enough to actually craft the invention. To do that, you’ll have to complete all of the Homestead Missions first (check out A Complete Set for details).

Once you’ve got everything ready, just open a logbook, go into the Crafting menu, find the Inventions section, and craft any of Franklin’s inventions. That’s all it takes to unlock the achievement! Just keep in mind that at some point, you’ll have to craft all of them anyway, so consider this a small step toward Completionist.

House Party
Recruit any of the Artisans and see them settled on the Homestead.
Check out A Complete Set for more details on how to recruit settlers.

A Complete Set
See all the optional characters settled at the Homestead.
After finishing Sequence 5, Memory 4 ("River Rescue"), the game introduces you to Homestead Missions, starting with rescuing a stranded woodworker near the manor. These missions are essential if you're aiming for achievements like Patent Not Pending and An Extraordinary Man, and they’re also a necessary step toward unlocking Completionist later.

For this particular achievement, you don’t need to complete every single Homestead Mission, just enough to recruit all the Artisans and other settlers. As you explore, keep an eye out for house icons on the map when you're in the Homestead area. These indicate available missions, and completing them as they appear will naturally lead to unlocking the achievement.

Original Gamer
Win a game of Fanorona, Morris and Bowls on the Homestead.
For this achievement, keep in mind that you must win these games outside of any mission. Simply walking up to an opponent and initiating the game is the only way for the win to count. Also, these games must be played near the manor, not by the harbormaster, or they won’t register properly.

Fanorona, Morris, and Bowls were thrown into the game because someone at Ubisoft thought we’d enjoy them. Whether that’s true or not, you’ll still have to beat them, and here’s the catch, the CPU plays nearly perfectly, especially in Fanorona. Winning can be a serious challenge, so reading the in-game tutorials is a must.

Also, avoid betting money when playing these games in the Homestead. It seems like wagering increases the CPU’s difficulty, and honestly, you don’t want to make this any harder than it already is. Plus, you could end up losing a lot of money in the process.

If you're looking for the games:

  • Fanorona is inside the manor with Achilles.
  • Morris is inside the Inn.
  • Bowls is just outside the Inn.

If you're struggling, check out this video.
"Other" Achievements Part II
Bring Down the House
Explore Fort Wolcott.
Check out Kidd Gloves for more details.

Kidd Gloves
Uncover the mystery of Oak Island.
Check out Kidd Gloves for more details.

The hunt for Peg Leg Trinkets begins in Sequence 6, but don’t expect to reach Oak Island right away. You’ll need 24 trinkets to unlock it, and some of them won’t even be available until Sequence 8, since you won’t have access to New York before then.

If you want to make your life easier, head to any General Store and pick up a Trinkets Map for £3000. This will mark every Peg Leg Trinket on your mini-map, saving you the trouble of searching blindly.

Now, grabbing just one trinket is enough to unlock the Fort Wolcott mission, which nets you the Bring Down the House achievement. But if you want to set foot on Oak Island, you’ll need to gather 24 trinkets and complete all the side missions tied to them. And if you're aiming for Completionist, make sure you hit full synchronization on each mission along the way.

All Washed Up
Complete all Naval Missions aboard the Aquila.
In Sequence 6, you’ll gain access to naval missions by speaking with the Harbormaster. From there, you’ll take the Aquila out to sea for a series of missions, with the four required for this achievement marked by Templar icons on the naval map. Once you’ve completed the fourth mission, the achievement will unlock.

If you're going for Completionist, remember that you’ll need to get full synchronization on all of these missions!

Entrepreneur, not Pirate!
Complete all 12 Privateer Contracts.
Starting in Sequence 6, you can speak with the Harbormaster to take command of the Aquila and embark on Privateer Contracts. These missions aren’t just for show, completing them will lower the risk on naval trade routes, making it much safer to send out naval convoys once your Homestead Artisans unlock them. That means more profit with less risk, so it’s worth knocking these out early.

Your first three Privateer Contracts unlock in Sequence 6, with more becoming available as you progress:

  • Sequence 7 adds three more.
  • Sequence 8 unlocks another set of three.
  • Sequence 9 brings the final three.

Finishing the 12th and final Privateer Contract will unlock this achievement. And if you're working toward Completionist, don’t forget, full synchronization is required for all of them, so make sure you're hitting every objective along the way!

Tumblehome
Upgrade the Aquila.
Once you hit Sequence 6, you’ll be able to start upgrading the Aquila, turning it into the true Ghost of the North Sea. Upgrades can be purchased from a paper book next to the Harbormaster, and by the time they become available, you should have enough cash to afford at least the cheapest upgrade, the Extra Cannon for £2500. Buying that, or any other upgrade, will unlock the achievement.

If you’re aiming for Completionist, you’ll eventually need to purchase all Aquila upgrades. However, hold off on upgrading the Naval Ram until after you've unlocked Perfectionist and achieved full synchronization in both Naval Missions and Privateer Contracts. Some missions require you to destroy ships by firing on their powder stores, and the easiest way to reveal those is by ramming into enemy ships. The problem? If you’ve upgraded the Naval Ram, you might end up sinking ships instantly before triggering the powder explosion.

To avoid making things harder than they need to be, wait until you’ve fully synchronized all story missions, Naval Missions, and Privateer Contracts before upgrading the Naval Ram.

By Invitation Only
Be invited to join a Club.
If you remember the Guilds from previous games, Clubs work in a similar way, except this time, they’re mainly there to give you a set of challenges to work toward. Getting invited to a club happens naturally after Sequence 4, so you really don’t need to go out of your way for this achievement. At some point, at least one of these actions will happen just by playing the game.

That said, if you’re looking to speed things up, here’s what triggers an invitation for each club:

  • Hunting Society – Kill and skin an animal.
  • Frontiersmen – Visit one of their camps in the Frontier.
  • Boston Brawlers – Defeat an enemy using only your fists.
  • Thieves Club – Pickpocket a total of £100.

Eventually, you’ll need to join all clubs and complete their challenges to unlock In Good Standing, but for now, just keep playing and you’ll get this achievement without much effort.

In Good Standing
Complete all challenges for any of the Clubs.
Check out By Invitation Only for more details on how Clubs work.

Once you’ve joined a Club, you’ll receive a set of challenges related to that Club, along with some optional missions. To unlock this achievement, you’ll need to complete every challenge and mission for at least one Club. However, if you’re aiming for Completionist, you’ll eventually have to finish all challenges and missions for every Club, so be prepared for some extra work.

To track your challenge progress, open the map by pressing Select (or your keyboard equivalent), then use the Left Analog Stick (or your keyboard equivalent) to navigate to the Clubs section. The currently active challenges will be listed on the right. Keep in mind that you must complete each tier of challenges before unlocking the next one. Club missions, however, are separate from these challenge tiers and will appear on the mini-map as you progress.

If you’re working on the Frontiersmen’s Tier 2 challenges, one of the tasks requires you to listen to all of General Washington’s optional conversations in New York. However, if you listen to them before Tier 2 becomes available, the game might not recognize your progress. If this happens, here’s how to fix it:

  • Load Sequence 9, Memory 1 ("Missing Supplies").
  • Talk to Washington twice during the memory and complete it.
  • Go back to New York and speak with him again.

This should properly update your progress and allow you to complete the challenge.

Man of the People
Liberate all districts in Boston OR New York.
Both Boston and New York are divided into three districts, each under the control of a Templar leader. To weaken their hold, you’ll need to complete a series of Liberation Missions scattered across each district. These missions gradually reduce Templar influence and pave the way for the final confrontation.

Once you’ve cleared all Liberation Missions in a district, you’ll need to meet with a Liberation Contact. This contact will assign you a mission where you’ll take down the district’s Templar leader using your Assassin abilities. Completing this mission fully liberates the district.

For this achievement, you only need to liberate all three districts in either Boston or New York. Once that’s done, an additional final Liberation Mission will appear in the city. Finishing it will lower shop prices across the entire city and unlock the achievement.

If you’re aiming for Completionist, though, you’ll eventually need to liberate both Boston and New York, so keep that in mind!
"Other" Achievements Part III
Monopoly Man
Send a convoy to Boston, New York and the Frontier.
To unlock this achievement, you’ll first need to reach Sequence 8, since access to New York is required. You’ll also need to discover at least one General Store in Boston, New York, and the Frontier. If you’re unsure where to find them, check out the video guide under Coureur des Bois for their exact locations.

Before you can start, you need a convoy, either land or naval. If you don’t already have one, you can craft a land convoy using the Crafting menu in any General Store or at the Homestead manor.

Once you have a convoy ready, load it up with any three items and send each item to a different location:

  • One to a General Store in Boston
  • One to a General Store in New York
  • One to a General Store in the Frontier

As soon as you confirm the shipment, the achievement will unlock.

Blowing in the Wind
Retrieve every page for one of Ben Franklin's Almanacs.
Each of Ben Franklin’s Almanacs unlocks a new invention for the Homestead manor (check out Patent Not Pending for more details on that). However, to complete an Almanac, you’ll need to collect all of its pages, which are scattered across Boston and New York.

Now, don’t expect these pages to just sit there and wait for you. The moment you get close, they’ll fly off, and you’ll need to chase them down before they disappear. If you lose one, don’t worry, it’ll respawn in the same spot after a bit.

Finding them isn’t too difficult, though. While you could look up a video guide, the game actually gives you a better option, buyable maps. Head to any General Store, drop a bit of cash, and you’ll get a map marking every Almanac page on both the big map (via Select or keyboard equivalent) and the mini-map.

To unlock this achievement, just collect all four pages in one district of either city. But if you're going for Completionist, you’ll need to track down every single page, so keep that in mind!

Completionist
Complete ALL progress tracker grid entries.
Hope you're ready, because this is the big one.

If you're aiming for Completionist, be prepared to do everything the game has to offer. Nothing can be left undone, every mission, every collectible, every challenge must be fully completed. The name of the achievement says it all.

Your progress tracker grid can be found in the Start menu (or keyboard equivalent). Scroll left until you reach the DNA Tracker, this needs to hit 100% to unlock the achievement. Inside, you’ll find a full breakdown of everything that counts toward completion.

Here’s what you’ll need to complete, with references to relevant achievements or guides:

  • Full Synchronization on all Main Story Missions – Perfectionist.
  • Complete all Epilogue Missions – Fin.
  • Full Synchronization on all Homestead Missions – Video guide available here.
  • Full Synchronization on all Naval Missions – All Washed Up.
  • Full Synchronization on all Privateer Contracts – Entrepreneur, not Pirate!.
  • Complete all Courier Missions – All become available in Sequence 10, so you can save them for later.
  • Full Synchronization on all Liberation Missions – Man of the People.
  • Full Synchronization on all Peg Leg Missions – Kidd Gloves.
  • Liberate all Templar Forts – Click for Video guide for the locations, but be prepared for a massive fight. You’ll need to kill the captain, blow up the powder stores, and change the flag to take control.
  • Complete all Assassination Contracts.
  • Complete all Delivery Requests.
  • Complete all Clan Challenges and Missions – In Good Standing.
  • Collect all Almanac Pages – Blowing in the Wind.
  • Collect all Feathers – These are only found in the Frontier, and maps can be purchased from General Stores.
  • Collect all Peg Leg Trinkets – Kidd Gloves.
  • Open all Treasure Chests – Maps can be bought at General Stores. Chests found in Peg Leg Missions do NOT count.
  • Craft all of Franklin’s Inventions – Patent Not Pending.
  • Purchase all Aquila Upgrades – Tumblehome.
  • Rank up all Assassin Recruits to Assassin Rank – Magna ♥♥♥ Laude.
  • Purchase all Weapons – Buy every weapon from General Stores. All stores stock the same weapons, so it doesn’t matter which one you use. Expect to spend £72,554 in total.
  • Unlock all Fast Travel Locations in Boston and New York – Video guides here and here for both cities.

This is by far one of the most time-consuming achievements in the game, but if you’re this deep, you’re already committed. Good luck!

Multitasking
Complete 50% of the Progress Tracker entries.
Check out Completionist for more details on the progress tracker.

Spit Roast
Perform a double assassination using a musket.
Muskets can be found all over the game, either from musket stands or by looting guards. The easiest way to get this achievement is to grab a musket from a stand and pull off a "stealth" assassination on two guards standing in front of each other.

If you’re struggling to find the right setup, check out this video guide for some extra help.

Circus Act
Kill 15 guards with a single cannon shot.
The only time you get to manually fire a cannon is during Sequence 10, Memory 3 ("The Battle of Monmouth"). There's even an optional objective in this mission that lines up perfectly with the achievement: "Kill 2 platoons with a single cannonball."

Each platoon consists of 8 soldiers, so wiping out two platoons at once means killing 16 soldiers, which is exactly what you need for the achievement.

Right at the start of the memory, there’s a perfectly lined-up group of two platoons in the direction the cannon is already aimed. Fire a cannonball into them, and you should get the achievement. There might be a slight delay before it pops, so hang around for a few seconds just to be sure.

If you need a visual reference, check out this video guide!

Predator
Hang 5 enemies by using rope darts.
If you’re out of rope darts, don’t worry, you can loot them from soldiers or simply buy them from any General Store.

To pull off a rope dart hanging, stand on a tree branch or a rooftop beam, face an enemy below, and press Y (or the keyboard equivalent) while holding down on the Left Analog Stick (or keyboard equivalent). This will drag the enemy up and hang them from where you're standing.

Repeat this five times, and the achievement will unlock. If you're struggling to get the timing right, check out this video guide for a clearer look at how it's done!
"Other" Achievements Part IV
Prince of Thieves
Loot a convoy without killing any of its guards.
Convoys start spawning after Sequence 5, but finding one is purely random since they appear at different locations throughout the Frontier. Once you track one down, you’ll need to handle things a bit differently than usual, this achievement requires you to leave every guard alive.

Instead of killing them, switch to your fists. Make sure you’re not holding any weapons, no sword, no gun, no hidden blade. Just your bare hands. From there, start punching the convoy’s guards into unconsciousness, countering as needed. Do not disarm them, or they’ll drop their weapon, which you don’t want.

Once every guard is knocked out cold, climb into the back of the convoy carriage(s) and steal the loot. That’s all it takes to unlock the achievement!

Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye!
Block a firing line 5 times by using a human shield.

Once every guard is knocked out cold, climb into the back of the convoy carriage(s) and steal the loot. That’s all it takes to unlock the achievement!

Jager Bomb
After becoming fully Notorious, kill 10 Jagers before losing your notoriety.
Jagers stand out with their black hats featuring a feather and a black hood covering their face. These elite enemies are highly skilled and will only appear when you’re at full notoriety. Unlike regular soldiers, Jagers are tougher to fight, so the best strategy is to counter their attack with B (or keyboard equivalent), immediately follow up with X (or keyboard equivalent) to break their defense, and then finish them off with attacks.

If you want to farm this achievement efficiently, you’re in luck, Sequence 5, Memory 2 ("A Trip To Boston") and Sequence 5, Memory 3 ("Boston’s Most Wanted") both automatically place you at full notoriety. Instead of escaping or tearing down wanted posters, stay in full notoriety and wait for Jagers to spawn. Once they start showing up, take them down. Kill 10 Jagers, and the achievement will unlock.

If you need a visual guide, check out this video.

Magna ♥♥♥ Laude
Have a Trainee reach the Assassin Rank.
Before you can work on this achievement, you’ll need at least one Assassin Trainee, which you recruit while completing the requirements for Man of the People.

The best way to rank up trainees is by sending them on missions across the 13 colonies. Every time missions are available, send your recruits out and let them gain experience. Keep repeating this until one of your trainees reaches Rank 11 (Assassin), once that happens, the achievement will unlock.

If you're aiming for Completionist, remember that you’ll eventually need all six trainees to reach Assassin rank, so keep grinding those missions!

Coureur des Bois
Exchange undamaged pelts at all different general stores.
There are nine General Stores spread across Boston, New York, and the Frontier, with three in each area. To unlock this achievement, you’ll need nine undamaged pelts from any animal found in the Frontier or Homestead.

To ensure undamaged pelts, use either the hidden blade or snares when hunting. Avoid using the pistol, as it will always result in damaged pelts, which won’t count for this.

Once you have nine undamaged pelts, visit each General Store and sell one pelt per store.
Here’s where to find them:

Boston
  • Child’s Still House of Dry Goods
  • Hancock’s Store No. 5
  • Elizabeth Murray’s Fineries

Frontier
  • The Walking Haberdashery
  • Murdoch’s Barter
  • The Milliner’s Wares

New York
  • Van Brugh’s Spices
  • De Lancey’s Imports & Goods
  • Rhinelander’s Sugars

If you’re having trouble locating any of these stores, check out the Coureur des Bois video guide here for a full walkthrough.

Eye Witness
Witness a predator killing an enemy.
This achievement might unlock naturally as you play, depending on how lucky you get with predator encounters. The animals that count for this are bears, cougars, bobcats, and wolves. To earn the achievement, you need to watch one of these predators kill an enemy soldier, without interfering.

The key here is to stay hidden while the attack happens. If you get too close or reveal yourself, the predator will switch targets and attack you instead, which cancels the achievement.

If you're struggling to find the right setup, check out this video guide below for an example of how to trigger this event.

Fin
Complete each of the epilogue missions unlocked after the credits roll.
This is a story-based achievement, meaning it unlocks automatically as you progress. You’ll earn it after completing the main missions that become available following No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.

Main missions are marked with exclamation points on both the minimap and the world map, so just keep following the story, and this one will pop naturally.
Good Luck!
As I said, Assassin's Creed III is an amazing experience, and it truly deserves to be completed, even if some achievements take a bit of time to unlock!

I hope this guide has been helpful to you. I took the time to research and verify that every achievement description and method I provided still works today (at the time of writing this).

Have fun, and good luck unlocking them all! ^^

Thank you great guide
