Introduction and Image Version
This is a series of six character build ideas. This is basically the guide I wish I had when I first started playing and was presented with attribute points to allocate. These builds are intentionally not optimal, they are supposed to be fun and interesting characters who get lots of interesting dialogue choices.
You shouldn't feel obligated to stick to any of these religiously as you progress through the game. Distribute your skill points however feels interesting to you personally!

Richard Mullen, Ace Detective
Intellect + Motorics

Visual calculus -- Assess crime scenes, calculate bullet trajectories, identify footprints.
Logic -- Legendary skills of deduction.
Encyclopedia -- Remembers facts essential to the investigation.
Hand-Eye Coordination -- Skilled with a gun. Hard-boiled.
Interfacing -- Skilled in general. Experienced with tools.
Perception -- Never misses a detail.

You wake up with amnesia and are asked to solve a murder? Easy, just fake it 'til you make it!
Pretend you're a hard-boiled detective who's always one day from retirement.
Has many of the skills most helpful to solving the murder, but...
You're living in a fantasy world. You're an out of shape amnesiac acting like a grizzled, unfriendly fictional detective. Very likely to die of physical or morale damage.
Raphael Ambrosius Cousteau, Disco Superstar
Psyche + Motorics

Inland Empire -- Always trust your necktie.
Suggestion -- Sleazy and charming.
Esprit de Corps -- Yeah, that one sounds fancy.
Savoir Faire -- Show off your disco moves.
Reaction Speed -- Always on your toes.
Composure -- You're the Fashion Police.
Honorable Lieutenant Firewalker
Intellect + Psyche

Rhetoric -- Always right, never wrong.
Logic -- Know what does and doesn't make sense.
Encyclopedia -- Search your inner databases.
Espirit de Corp -- Honor among cops.
Authority -- Make them listen to you. You are the law.
Volition -- Stay sane. You can do this.
Tequila Sunset, Poetic Policeman
Intellect + Physique

Conceptualization -- Understand the world as art, irony, and metafiction.
Drama -- When in doubt, make up a convincing lie.
Rhetoric -- Know-it-all who loves to debate politics.
Shivers -- Notices the eerie, ghostly beauty of the city.
Electrochemistry -- The drugs help you to be a better artist.
Endurance -- Art can be suffering. Suffering can be art.
The Harbinger of the Apocalypse

These are great, I think also some of these have some strong thematic political pairing as well that could help, especially since it isn't an either/or decision.

- Ace Detective: Apolitical - politics doesn't help solve a murder

- Disco Superstar: Liberal - Money, partying, superstar detectives need to stay on their game

- Honorable: Centrist, moralintern - protecting principles, the 'status quo'

- Tequilla Sunset: Commie - (pseudo)-intellectual, high-concept, progressive

- Apocalypse Cop: Fascist plays well with Half-Light. Fascism also goes hand-in-hand with conspiracy, paranormal belief and fear-driven motive.

- Bloated Corpse of a Drunk: Unsure politically, but I think this is absolutely the "Sorry Cop" archetype. Probably Apolitical, doesn't even have the self-worth to have an opinion

Thanks mate,

New to the game, although it's been on my harddrive for 3 years. Have a lot of time to finally play and this will come in helpful.

I'm so sorry for not updating this yet, right after I posted this I started a creative writing class at college which has drained my soul and my sanity and all of my will to write anything.
Good news, that class ends tomorrow. (Bad news, I did NOT pass.)

You should finish fleshing out the whole concept if you get some time. The only other thing that would be really cool to see is some recommended "Thought Cabinets". Great ideas, love the reference names.
