Inspiration
The following video helped me significantly increase FPS with minimal graphical loss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGj205OHxgY
This guide is intended to raise awareness of this potential fix. It only includes a fraction of the steps of the video that were enough to help me. If this guide doesn't work for you, the additional steps in the video might further help you.
Step 1: Nvidia Systems Control
1. Open your Nvidia Systems Control panel and navigate to 3D Settings.

2. There you can either change your global settings or go into program settings and choose FFXVI.

3. Eitherway, here you should scroll down until Vertical Synchronization (VSync) and it to be ON!

(Important: VSync should be deactivated ingame.)
Step2: Ingame Settings
To summarize, there are 5 important Settings to focus on.

1. Super Resolution & Frame Generation: For NVIDIA graphics cards (3000 series or lower), it’s more beneficial to use AMD’s FSR 3 (yes, not DLSS). The main advantage comes from the AMD FSR 3 Frame Generation setting, which should also be turned on.

2. Dynamic Resolution & Upscaling: Turn Dynamic Resolution off and set Upscaling to Quality, Balanced, or Performance, depending on what works best for your system.

3. Graphical Fidelity and Shadow Quality: These two settings are highly demanding. Setting them to medium can significantly improve FPS. (Shadow Quality is the more demanding of the two, so try lowering it first.)

4. VSync: Turn VSync off in the in-game video settings, since it is already enabled in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

(Screenshots show my personal settings, which gave me roughly 50% more frames compared to the game’s recommended settings.)
Additional Mod:
The FFXVIFIX mod is also recommended in the video: https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy16/mods/6?tab=description

In addition to features like FOV modification, it might further enhance performance. However, in my case, it wasn’t necessary for performance improvement.

To install the mod, simply extract the contents of the zip file into your game folder.

I love how the solution to fixing frame rate is just using the ingame graphics settings as if anyone coming to a thread like this has actually not thought of that. The game is always going to have weird performance issues because of how much it hitches and stutters. That's basically unavoidable.

also make sure to update BIOS :) idk why but there have been a buggy bios update that does't run well with this game...

I'd recommend the frame gen mod from nexus as well, works well with my 3070TI laptop :)

also delete the shaders in the Appdata/ff16 folder. Did wonders for me!

@YodaSensei you're bottlenecking your gpu with that cpu

just followed all the steps and i still have frame drops every time after a loading... r5 7600x and rtx 3070ti. It's unbelievable. Game is installed on SSD nvme, all drivers up to date, i adjusted the settings, tried all max or low, v sync on/off, frame gen, dlss. I even used DLSS swapper to install better version of dlss, tried with nvidia app, deleted the shader file to recompile multiple times.
But every time i load into an area i have these frame drops that are driving me insane.
I installed the FIXini, I even tried to modify some settings with Profile Inspector.
I almost spent more hours fixing than playing at this point
I'm playing on 1080p, 32gb of RAM, no throttling, the game should be running well.
I'm so lost...

Had to post a quick thanks to this guide, running the game on a 3070 and struggled to hit 40fps/2k resolution. This is now handling 60-80 no issues at all and is completely playable on high settings. Hugely appreciated.

3080, was having incredible lags with DLS on, like having 50 and constantly high-down, but turned AMD FSR and game now runs like butter - wow! Thank you so much!

I cap my fps to 40fps and when I turn on frame gen I can only get 50fps
