The green Kalashnikov automatic rifle (AK) for border guards is a reward weapon made at the Izhevsk Machine Building Plant for the Border Troops of the KGB of the USSR. The first such AKM assault rifles were manufactured in 1973. They were fitted with a figurative plate with the inscription: “To the Winner in Socialist Competition. Designer M. Kalashnikov”. The rifle was fitted with a special set of plastic parts in a distinctive green color, emphasizing the belonging of the weapon to the border troops. s
