Welcome to the "You Can Pet the Dog" Guide. I know you must be excited and quivering with anticipation to do what you came here to do. However, understand that petting the dog is a responsibility. To form a bond with the dog is to bond the hearts. If you don't have it in you to take care of the dog, then I suggest you do not form this bond. Consider this carefully and once you've steeled your resolve I will see you in the next part.

When the dog is first introduced we observe it is a puppy. The impulse to pet in this state is high. We learn the dog's name, Torgal. Clive and we as the player are given an important task before we can do the pet. This is one of the most challenging parts of the game. There is no way to interact with the dog at this stage. Despite wanting to pet the dog, you cannot. You must complete your duties as the shieldbearer. Steel yourself and continue with the story and eventually you will be able to pet the dog.


This is the Torgal in its earliest stage, the time is ripe to form a bond with it

Life comes at us fast. Before you and Clive knew it, you were swept up in the threads of fate. You will now have to endure 13 years before you can be reuinted with the dog. During this stretch of the game, you will not be able to interact with the dog at all. It may seem challenging but do your best to navigate these trials. Feel free to reflect on the earlier memories to keep you going. All I can offer is that what waits at the end is worth it.


This is the developing Torgal. You will not see him for the next 13 years but he will remember you and the bond grows deeper.

You have endured, you have suffered, but you survived. Your reward is here at last. You find yourself reunited with Torgal. The desire has been building and now you can finally pet the dog. Approach Torgal and you may notice this prompt appear.





By pressing this button Clive will perform an animation which can include, but is not limited to: petting Torgal, feeding the Torgal or rubbing the Torgal Tummy. You can pet Torgal whenever you want and frequent use of the command will fortify your bond together. Torgal is immortal and will follow you on your journey no matter how tough it gets so make sure to frequently show your appreciation through this command.

Be sure to reward him with it frequently now that you are armed with this knowledge.
