The first fully fledged Action RPG in the mainline Final Fantasy series.

An epic dark fantasy world where the fate of the land is decided by the mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title โ€œFirst Shield of Rosariaโ€ and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the dominant of the Phoenix. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.

Titanic Clashes:
When rival Dominants come head to head, epic battles between their Eikons ensue!
Eikonic Action:
Clive utilizes the powers of multiple Eikons in breakneck battle!

From Strength to Strength
A plethora of powerful swordplay techniques and Eikonic abilities lie within Clive's remitโ€”and it is up to you to decide which ones you wish to learn or upgrade. If you're having trouble choosing, upgrades can be unlocked automatically.

Story-focused mode is recommended for those players who are less comfortable with action games and wish to focus more on the game's story elements. In this mode, Clive will automatically evade some attacks, and epic Eikonic combos can be triggered with simple button presses. Action-focused mode, where Clive's every action is controlled by the player, is available for those who are confident in their skillโ€”or want to test it.

~Synopsis~

The sun is setting upon the land of Valisthea.

For centuries, people have flocked to her Mothercrystals to partake of their blessingโ€”the abundant aether that fuels the magicks they rely upon in their everyday lives. As the aether begins to fade and the lifeless deadlands spread ever further, so too does the struggle for possession of the final flickers of the Mothers' light grow ever more fierce.

Yet amidst the gathering storm, there are those who believe that the legacy of the crystals has shaped mankind's destiny for long enough.

Story
In the year 860, Clive Rosfield, his younger brother Joshua Rosfield and ward Jill Warrick resided in the castle of Rosalith in The Grand Duchy of Rosaria along with his father and ruler Elwin Rosfield and Duchess Anabella Rosfield. Clive who has been training to become the first Shield to his brother who is the dominant of Eikon Phoenix under the tutelage of Lord Commander Rodney Murdoch. After Elwin's expedition, he informs Clive of the Blight's expanding reach and had claimed the northern territories which pushes various creatures further south for survival, encroaching the borders of Rosaria. Seeking to defend their realm from the Blight, Elwin plans to secure Drake's Breath from the Iron Kingdom's control and expedition towards Phoenix Gate as per their tradition for the dominant to listen to the voice of ancestors before commencing the war against the kingdom as well as assigns Clive with Sirs Wade and Tyler to traverse to Stillwind Marsh after sightings of beastmen were reported within the area before they were to rejoin the main company.

At night, Elwin and Anabella discussed of the necessities of bringing Joshua to Phoenix Gate, the former informing her that only the dominant can enter the Apodytery to preform rites before marching into war and reassured her that Clive will be watching over him as his Shield. Anabella expressed further disgust of her firstborn and her view that he had disgraced the bloodline by not becoming the Phoenix. Elwin was taken aback by her claims and announces that men like Clive had been preserving their lives from gracing the gutter much to her fury dismay. Elsewhere, Jill met with Clive, who announced to her of his first given mission, and prayed for his safe return. The two confide that he will be in a war much bigger than the previous but Jill is confident in his safe return. The two retire for the night.

Next morning, the trio arrives at the marsh and vanquish the monsters in the area before heading back to the main party before nightfall. At Phoenix Gate, the Shields throw a feast where Joshua sneaks out and confides in Clive, who had been abstaining from the feast, about his insecurity of his lack of ability as a leader and wishes that the dominant power had been his to wield. Clive comforted him in that their duty was decided by their ancestors long before with Joshua's duty in protecting Rosaria and its people and Clive's to be his Shield and protector in keeping him safe. Elsewhere, outside the castle, turncoats secretly infiltrates the castle and sets it alight.

Joshua awoke to the smell of smoke and is escorted to safety by Wade and discovers that the turncoats are wearing garbs belonging to their supposed ally Holy Empire of Sanbreque. The two encounters a mortally injured Tyler and reunites with Clive, Archduke Elwin and Lord Commander Murdoch. ~The Story of Eikons~

Magical beings of godlike strength who dwell within human hosts known as Dominants, only emerging when the Dominant primes.

History records eight Eikons in total, each with a unique elemental affinityโ€”one warden each of fire, water, thunder, ice, wind, earth, light, and darkness.

The common belief that two Eikons of the same element cannot coexist was shaken by the appearance of a second Eikon of Fire during the imperial attack on Phoenix Gate.

Eikons are powerful, god-like beings that are native to the world of Valisthea. Both worshipped and feared by the people of the realm as protective deities and used as weapons of war. Each Eikon has a respective Dominant, a human host who can call upon their Eikon's power.

Characteristics
While they are unique in terms of physical appearance, Eikons share some similarities in that they are massive in size, towering over humans. Eikons' bodies are composed of aether, and they can heal their bodies when damaged by absorbing more aether from the environment, even being able to regenerate lost limbs in a matter of seconds. They have been known to transform into even more powerful forms by absorbing massive amounts of concentrated aether, such as from the heart of a Mothercrystal. An Eikon embodies one of the eight elements of the realm: fire, ice, lightning, earth, light, darkness, water, or wind. Eikons' sight, or at least that of Phoenix, is shown to be monochrome with a yellow tint.

Mythos is able to absorb the aether of other Eikons into their being, disrupting the respective Dominant's ability to channel their Warden. This can be done either willingly or by force. These Dominants can still retain their ability to call upon their Eikon, but it takes greater effort to do so. If the Dominant experiences extreme psychological stress, they might also prime uncontrollably and cause their Eikon to go on a rampage, the Dominant losing a sense of self in the process. The Eikon's Dominant bestowing a part of their elemental capacity onto another is called a "Blessing", which appears to be a similar process to a Mythos acquiring the powers of multiple Eikons without being their original Dominant.

Egis are aetherial entities conjured both by Eikons and their Dominants. They are beings of any shape that the Eikon has created that can act as extensions of the will of the Dominants who conjured them. Egis are said to be unable to continue to exist should their Eikon master die, though one seeming exception appears in the form of Aruna.

~Valisthea~

Valisthea - A Land Blessed in the Light of the Mothercrystals.

The land of Valisthea is studded with Mothercrystalsโ€”glittering mountains of crystal that tower over the realms around them, blessing them with aether. For generations, people have flocked to these beacons to take advantage of their blessing, using the aether to conjure magicks that let them live lives of comfort and plenty. Great powers have grown up around each Mothercrystal, and an uneasy peace has long reigned between them. Yet now the peace falters as the spread of the Blight threatens to destroy their dominions.

The Grand Duchy of Rosaria
Long ago, a group of small independent provinces in western Valisthea found strength in unity, and formed the Grand Duchy of Rosaria. After years of relative prosperity, the duchy now finds itself threatened by the spread of the Blightโ€”a threat that, left unchecked, would doubtless usher the realm to ruin. Rosaria draws its aether from Drake's Breath, a Mothercrystal situated on a volcanic island off the coast. The Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire (Warden of Fire), is enthroned as Archduke when they come of age.

The Holy Empire of Sanbreque
Sanbreque is the largest theocratic force in Valisthea. The Empire's holy capital Oriflamme is built around Drake's Head, the Mothercrystal that blesses the surrounding provinces with abundant aether. The people happily take advantage of this, living in comfort and security under the watchful gaze of the Holy Emperor, whom they worship as the living incarnation of the one true deity. The Dominant of Bahamut, Warden of Light, serves as the empire's champion, taking to the field in times of war to rout its enemies.

The Kingdom of Waloed
Waloed claims the entirety of Ash, the eastern half of Valisthea, as its dominion. The kingdom's control of the continent has oft been tested by the orcs and other beastmen who make their home there, but the current ruler of the realmโ€”the Dominant of Odin, Warden of Darknessโ€”has succeeded in quelling their rebellions. Using the power of the kingdom's Mothercrystal, Drake's Spine, this new king has built up a mighty army, with which he now seeks to test the borders of his neighbours.

The Dhalmekian Republic
The Dhalmekian Republic is made up of five states, from which the members of its ruling parliament are drawn. Its Mothercrystal, Drake's Fang, is half-hidden in the heart of a mountain rangeโ€”the republic's control over it, and its aether, securing the obedience of the large part of southern Valisthea. The Dominant of Titan, Eikon of Earth, is installed as a special advisor to parliament and has a significant say in its decision-making.

The Iron Kingdom
A small group of islands off the coast of Storm, the western half of Valisthea's twin realms. Here the Crystalline Orthodox, an extreme faith that worships crystals, reigns supreme. The Iron Kingdom controls Drake's Breath, the Mothercrystal that sits at the heart of one of their islandsโ€”long a source of contention with neighbouring Rosaria. Isolated and aloof from the mainland nations, the Ironblood speak their own language. Orthodox doctrine judges Dominants to be unholy abominations, and any unlucky enough to be born on the islands are executed.

The Crystalline Dominion
The Crystalline Dominion sits at the heart of Valisthea, built around the tallest of all the Mothercrystals, Drake's Tail. Many bloody battles were fought for control of this small plot of land due to its strategic importance, till the warring realms finally agreed to an armistice. As part of the peace treaty, the islands around Drake's Tail became an autonomous dominion led by a council of representatives from the surrounding nationsโ€”each realm enjoying equal claim to the Mothercrystal's blessing. No Dominant makes their home there.

The Crystalline Dominion is an autonomous island dominion in the world of Final Fantasy XVI, built around the tallest Mothercrystal, Drake's Tail, in the center of the Twins, which is also depicted on its emblem along with the four Dominant-led nations' emblems.

History
The predecessor nation to the dominion was established in the Year of the Realm 790. In the year 820, the Iron Kingdom deployed a spy named Ishtar to the dominion's predecessor to gain power and spread the faith of Crystalline Orthodox, which worships the Mothercrystals as deities. In four years, Ishtar had gained prominence and declared the region independent and the dominion closed its borders. In 825, war over Drake's Tail broke out due to the dominion's predecessor trying to lay claim to it. The combined forces of Veldemarke (nation in Ash prior to Waloed), Sanbreque, and Dhalmekia halted the war, and governed the dominion together. In the year 833, Ishtar was discovered to be a spy from Iron Kingdom, and the Crystalline Orthodox faith was suppressed in the region and many followers were massacred in a religious cleansing, which only ended when the orthodoxy's followers committed mass suicide in Fawn Coast. The Crystalline Dominion regained independence in 845, and Rosaria, Dhalmekia, Sanbreque, and Waloed (which had rose to replace the Kingdom fo Veldemarke by this time) agreed to let the Dominion stay as an independent nation if they stay neutral.

In 873, the armies of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque launched a massive attack and invaded the Dominion, moving the imperial capital from Oriflamme to Twinside.

The Dhalmekian Republic is a nation in the world of Final Fantasy XVI. Their emblem shows a warrior surrounded by the five elements of nature, which represents the five states that make up the realm. The Dominant of Titan, Hugo Kupka, has a large part in the governing of the republic as a special advisor.

History
Dhalmekia's predecessor nation was established in the year of the realm 210, and the republic came into being in year 500. In the year 840, civil war broke out in Dhalmekia with the Kingdom of Veldemarke (the kingdom preceding Waloed) supporting one side and Sanbreque the other. In 842, following the Dhalmekian civil war, the Kingdom of Veldemarke blocked the Osa Strait from Sanbreque, leading to war between the two countries. In the Year of the Realm 849, the Free Cities of Kanver sought to become independent from the Dhalmekian Republic with the support of the Kingdom of Waloed, who were supporting Kanver's efforts to establish a presence on Storm. In 850, Dhalmekia allied with Rosaria against Waloed, and almost won before Dhalmekia's best soldiers abandoned the battlefield. Sanbreque, Dhalmekia, and Rosaria come together in an agreement to prevent another city like Kanver looking to become independent, and the state leaders met in an event. The pact soon fell apart and the empire annexed the duchy in the wake of the Night of Flames, and in 865 the Battle of the Twin Realms broke out across all the nations.

Politics
Dhalmekia is an alliance between multiple city-states scattered throughout its desert territory.

Geography
Occupying the southern regions of the continent of Storm, Dhalmekia is mostly composed of deserts, canyons, and savannas, with ruins from the Fallen civilization scattered throughout the landscape.

The Republic remains relatively unscathed by the Blight, but the land is already fairly inhospitable.

Drake's Fang is the nation's Mothercrystal, found inside a mound that rises from the otherwise flat landscape. The other notable landmark in Dhalmekia is the Dzemekys Falls, a circular canyon carved to the southeast part of the Republic where the ocean water perpetually flows into a seemingly bottomless chasm.

Military
The Republic's military force is called the Men of the Fist.

Hugo Kupka, likely the richest man in the Republic, also employs his private army, Men of the Rock. The men of this force were originally employed by the parliament to guard Drake's Fang, but Kupka co-opted the bulk of the force when he seized control of the Mothercrystal.

Foreign relations
One of the three great powers on the continent of Storm, Dhalmekia has a vested interest in maintaining cordial relations with its neighbours, since they are an alliance founded on trade. Being relatively unscathed by the Blight, the Republic had no incentive to expand its borders, and instead focused on keeping out invaders. In seeking to maintain the status quo, they also disapproved of other nations' imperialist ambitions.

The Grand Duchy of Rosaria is a nation in the world of Final Fantasy XVI. Their emblem is that of a phoenix and the nation is led by the Archduke, the Dominant of the Phoenix. In 860, following the betrayal of Duchess Anabella Rosfield, a troop of soldiers from Sanbreque succeeded in taking Phoenix Gate and defeated Rosaria's entire army, killing the Archduke Elwin Rosfield and most of the officers in his army, an event which would be called the Night of Flames. Since then, Rosaria would be subjected to more tragedy for sensing their weakness, the Iron Kingdom launched a raid upon Rosaria, taking Bearers, supplies and women, Jill Warrick included, before ultimately being made an imperial province of Sanbreque, with Anabella marrying Emperor Sylvestre Lesage. However, Anabella's rule over Rosaria would be one of paranoia and tyranny with the people's conditions worsening. After the formation of the Black Shields, a group of knights made in the mocking image of the Shields of Rosaria, a rebel group made up of soldiers who once served under the former Archduke banded together to form the Guardians of the Flame, doing what they can to help the people and resist Anabella's rule.

History
The Duchy of Rosaria was established 250 years ago. However, Rosarians themselves hold their nations as one of the original nations in modern Valisthea, as established by the Founder, a legendary figure still revered to this day. The "Rose Alliance" was established in the Year of the Realm 550, and the duchy as overseen by the archduke came into existence in the year 600. After Drake's Eye in the north fell, the Northern Territories went to war with Rosaria over resources, and the Phoenix came to clash with Shiva; the northern tribes retreated after infighting broke out.

In 854, Archduke Elwin Rosfield finally pacified the Northern Territories, and the northern tribes' chieftain's daughter, Jill Warrick, came to be the ward of House Rosfield and live in Rosalith Castle alongside the archduke's own children, the elder Clive Rosfield and the younger Joshua Rosfield, Dominant of Phoenix and heir to the ducal throne.

In 857, the duchy allied with Dhalmekia against Waloed, who was allied with Kanver to gain a foothold on Storm. The Rosarianโ€“Dhalmekian alliance was almost victorious, but Dhalmekia's best soldiers left the battlefield, leading to their defeat, and Kanver remained independent with Waloed's support. In 859, Sanbreque, Dhalmekia, and Rosaria formed an alliance to prevent another city state like Kanver from seeking independence, known as the Triunity. The state leaders of the three countries came together, but this was when Sanbreque's Sylvestre Lesage and Rosaria's Anabella Rosfield conspired to have Sanbreque invade Rosaria.

In 860, as Archduke Elwin Rosfield was about to lead the Rosarian forces to reclaim Drake's Breath from the Iron Kingdom, Sanbrequois forces stormed Phoenix Gate and killed Elwin and Joshua, and the mysterious appearance of a second Eikon of Fire reduced the place to rubble before Joshua could perform the Ancestral Rite of Reunion. Unknown to all, even to himself, the Dominant of the second Eikon of Fire had been Clive Rosfield, who was branded and taken as a slave soldier for the empire.

Culture
Rosarian culture places great importance on tradition and chivalry. During the attempted invasion of Mount Drustanus and Drake's Breath, Archduke Elwin would not have his forces assault the island without first having his son Joshua, the Dominant of Phoenix, complete the Rite of Ancestral Communion in the Apodytery.

Politics
While most nations in Valisthea already hold Dominants in positions of authority, Rosaria is the only country on the continent of Storm to be directly ruled by one. According to Clive Rosfield, this agreement dates back to the duchy's founding, with the Dominant of the Phoenix being granted ruler status in return for them using the Eikon's power to protect the nation. Great care is placed on ensuring that the power of the Phoenix remains in the ducal bloodline, to the point of arranged marriages between cousins.

There are times when the chosen Dominant might be too young to take the throne, in which case the first-born son of the previous Dominant will act as a stand-in until they come of age. Overall, the duchy seems to practice male primogeniture while women appear to be married off for the sake of alliances.

Religion
Rosarians worship the Founder, the enigmatic individual who supposedly build Rosaria and, presumably, all other civilizations in Valisthea. This goes along with the kinship between the nation's inhabitants, with the object of their worship not being some higher being but the one who created their community.

Following the duchy's occupation by Sanbreque, the Greagorian church also started being adopted by some of Rosarian citizens.

Economy
By 860 to 878, Rosaria was notably not as wealthy as its neighbors, Sanbreque and Dhalmekia, a possible result of the nation having lost access to its Mothercrystal. However, this also meant that there was no large divide between social classes. A seafaring country, most of Rosaria's trade appeared to be made by ships.

Geography
A nation bordering the body of water known as the Boiling Sea, Rosaria is mostly composed of swamps and marshlands, with a few mountains and cliffs. There is also a lot of architecture from the Fallen civilization littered throughout the landscape.

Though houses in urban areas, like the capital of Rosalith and Port Isolde, are typically composed of brick, more outlying villages are made from wood.

Foreign relations
Though once considered one of the three great powers on the continent of Storm, in recent years, Rosaria has found itself the target of other nations' expansionist ambitions, even being annexed at the start of Final Fantasy XVI. Throughout most of the game, the nation silently struggles under its occupiers whilst striving to regain its independence, which it seemingly achieved following the signing of the Triunity Agreement.

The Holy Empire of Sanbreque is a theocracy in the world of Final Fantasy XVI, led by an emperor the populace believes to be the living incarnation of the one true deity. Their emblem is a golden holy figure representing the goddess Greagor within a golden crest. The Dominant of Bahamut serves as the nation's champion.

One of the representations of the empire is a type of white orchid. Other symbols of the empire include all manner of dragons, believed to be servants of the goddess Greagor.

History
Sanbreque is one the oldest nations in modern day Valisthea, its predecessor nation being established in the year of the realm 200; however, the modern holy empire officially only dates back to the year 700. In 859 Rosaria, Sanbreque, and Dhalmekia formed an alliance to prevent another incident like with Free Cities of Kanver declaring itself independent with Waloed's support. When the state leaders met, Anabella and Sylvestre conspired to have the empire invade the duchy.

When the empire annexed the Grand Duchy of Rosaria in 860, it made it a new province and appoints Anabella Lesage, Sylvestre's new wife, the former duchess of Rosaria, to govern the territory, rather than appointing a new cardinal, as the new province did not have enough Greagorian believers. In 865. a continent-wide war, the Battle of the Twin Realms, broke out where all nations took part.

After "Cid the Outlaw" destroyed the nation's Mothercrystal in Oriflamme, Drake's Head, Sanbreque abandoned the region altogether and moved to annex Crystalline Dominion and take its Mothercrystal, Drake's Tail.

Anabella's machinations eventually manipulated Emperor Sylvestre into believing that his son Dion Lesage, the leader of the Holy Order of the Knights Dragoon and the Dominant of Bahamut, was conspiring against him, based on her biased opinions of Dion being an illegitimate son. Sylvestre abdicated the throne to his and Anabella's young son, Olivier Lesage. Hearing about his, an outraged Dion stormed Twinside, the new capital, and demanded his father to see Anabella as the traitress that she was. Attempting to attack Olivier, in reality a thrall of Ultima, Sylvestre leapt to protect Olivier with his body and was killed instead. Realizing he had accidentally killed the one person he had striven to save, Dion's Eikonic powers went out of control and he transformed into Bahamut and decimated Twinside until being brought under control by the joint effort of Phoenix and Ifrit. Olivier was revealed a thrall of Ultima during the conflict and perished, and a distraught Anabella took her own life. With all Mothercrystals in Storm and the royal family believed fallen, the empire descends into chaos.

Power structure
The empire is divided into five original provinces, named by their geographical position: the Central Province (home to Oriflamme, the Holy Capital) and the eastern, western, northern, and southern sees. Each is represented by a member of the Greagorian church, a cardinal, while the Central Province is represented by the High Cardinal.

It is normally the Council of Cardinals that appoints the holy emperor, who is officially supposed to listen to them and rule as a constitutional monarch. In practice, however, there are few safeguards to prevent a emperor from ruling in even autocratic manner, as the current Emperor Sylvestre Lesage does.

Military
The empire has a sizeable army divided into several legions and several orders of knights. Many Bearers are used in the army, for risky or even suicidal operations. In battle, the empire's soldiers can count on the support of mages called Astrologers, as well as dragons and other beasts of war.

One of the three great powers of the Continent of Storm, while the Empire once enjoyed amicable relations with its neighbours, in recent years, the threat of the Blight has caused them to become increasingly expansionist, shattering centuries long bonds and treaties in the process. Following the loss of both their first and second capital, however, their influence over conquered territories waned while they were forced to look inward, starting with rebuilding relations with the other nations.

~Island Nation~

A small group of islands off the coast of Storm, the western half of Valisthea's twin realms. Here the Crystalline Orthodox, an extreme faith that worships crystals, reigns supreme. The Iron Kingdom controls Drake's Breath, the Mothercrystal that sits at the heart of one of their islandsโ€”long a source of contention with neighbouring Rosaria. Isolated and aloof from the mainland nations, the Ironblood speak their own language. Orthodox doctrine judges Dominants to be unholy abominations, and any unlucky enough to be born on the islands are executed. -Online description

The Iron Kingdom is an island nation in Final Fantasy XVI. In their own language, the kingdom is called Haearann. Their emblem shows two crossed axes and two anchors at the bottom. The citizens worship crystals and view Dominants and Bearers as unholy; any found to have been born on the Iron Kingdom are to be executed. However, they are not above using Dominants as weapons of war to give themselves an advantage in their raids. Eighty years ago, the Iron Kingdom took advantage of a conflict to seize Drake's Breath, the Mothercrystal formerly under Rosaria's control. The citizens of the Iron Kingdom are referred as Ironbloods by the other peoples of Valisthea.

The Iron Kingdom is nominally a monarchy. Its royal family and sovereign have virtually no power and the real ruler of the kingdom is the Patriarch of the Crystalline Orthodox, the highest priest of this religion that was once practiced throughout Valisthea, but is now only practiced by the Ironbloods. The Patriarch of the Orthodoxy in Year of the Realm 878 was Imreann.

The kingdom's fighting forces are known as the Iron Crusade, divided into battalions led by commanders under the orders of the king. Their warriors are seen by the other nations of Valisthea as brutal and primitive because of their preference for using clubs and large axes rather than lighter weapons.

History
The Crystalline Orthodox church predates the establishment of the Iron Kingdom. The predecessor for the kingdom was established in the Year of the Realm 450, and the kingdom as it stands in the modern day in 790.

The predecessor nation to the modern day Crystalline Dominion was established in the Year of the Realm 790.

The Iron Kingdom took advantage of Sanbreque's subterfuge in the fall of Phoenix Gate in 860, and seized the chance to invade the duchy with the goal of killing many men while taking the women and girls and Bearers captive. Moving on Storm as soon as word reached the Iron Islands of the deaths of Rosaria's Archduke and their Dominant, they encountered remarkably little resistance on the road to Rosalith. Not to be outdoneโ€” and emboldened by their lethal prior incursion into Rosarian territory at Phoenix Gateโ€” Sanbreque launched an invasion of their own, and drove the Iron Kingdom back into the Boiling Sea. Jill Warrick was among the girls taken from Rosalith Castle, and later used as a weapon against the Ironblood's enemies, a hypocritical act which was against the tenets of the Orthodoxy. Furthermore, Rosaria was annexed by Sanbreque becoming an imperial province governed cruelly by Anabella Lesage (nรฉe Rosfield) herselfโ€” barring the Iron Kingdom from the shores of Storm proper for the time being. Their only holding outside the Iron Islands at that time would be Mount Drustanus (known as Beinn Leodladh in the Haearanni tongue), where Drake's Breath was located.

Culture
As described by Vivian Ninetales, the Iron Kingdom is the embodiment of the Crystalline Orthodoxy. While revering the Mothercrystals like the rest of Valisthea, the orthodoxy differs in that they do not use crystals for mundane tasks and despise the other nations for exploiting the objects of their worship. Ironically, despite being viewed as "barbaric" and "backwards", this might make them the most technologically progressive nation in Valisthea, since it implies they have developed a way to survive without magic.

The Iron Kingdom arguably has Valisthea's worst policy regarding the treatment of Dominants and Bearers. While the other nations venerate the former and at least see the usefulness of the latter, the Kingdom views aether as evil and follows a doctrine of killing magic-users upon discovery. However, they have proven flexible (or hypocritical) with this policy, sparing at least one Dominant, Jill Warrick, to use her as a weapon of war.

Politics
The king is little more than a figurehead, with real power lying with the Crystalline Orthodox and its head priest.

Military
The Iron Kingdom designates its armed forces as the Iron Crusade. Divided into battalions, each led by a commander, the Crusade is under the orders of the monarchy whose sovereign gives his orders to the various commanders. The Crystalline Orthodox exercises great control over the armed forces, with priests supervising the battalions.

The Ironblood warriors, who make up the ranks of the Iron Crusade, are heavily armed, preferring the use of clubs or great axes to lighter weapons, in keeping with their brutal and direct fighting style.

In addition to its warrior battalions, the Iron Kingdom boasts a strong navy, essential for sending raids against the other nations of Valisthea.

While the Iron Kingdom has fierce warriors, it also has major weaknesses: its armed forces are equipped, or at least accustomed, to raiding their enemies, but they have never succeeded in extending their territory beyond the main island they control. The only exception is conquering the volcanic island of Mount Drustanus when Rosaria was too distracted with the Northern Territories to defend it. While they were also able to at one point take the greater part of Rosaria, including the capital of Rosalith, in this instance Rosaria had lost its commanders and a significant portion of its fighting strength during the massacre at Phoenix Gate, leaving the rest of the duchy leaderless and vulnerable. The Ironblood were, in turn, quickly seen off by Sanbreque.

Foreign relations
The Iron Kingdom shares no positive relationships with any of the other nations in Valisthea, being viewed as "barbaric" and "backwards" due to their rapidly different culture and beliefs. The Kingdom similarly despises the mainland nations for exploiting the Mothercrystals, whom they worship, and has attempted to invade them numerous times in the past to spread their holy doctrine, though without success.

~Militarily Avanced Nation~

Waloed claims the entirety of Ash, the eastern half of Valisthea, as its dominion. The kingdom's control of the continent has oft been tested by the orcs and other beastmen who make their home there, but the current ruler of the realmโ€”Dominant of Odin, Warden of Darknessโ€”has succeeded in quelling their rebellions. Using the power of the kingdom's Mothercrystal, Drake's Spine, this new king has built up a mighty army, with which he now seeks to test the borders of his neighbours. -Online description

The Kingdom of Waloed is a militarily advanced nation in Final Fantasy XVI whose lands are threatened by beastmen and the Blight. Their emblem is that of a six-legged horse and a shield. The Dominant of Odin, Barnabas Tharmr, leads the kingdom.

The main armed forces of the Kingdom of Waloed are known as the Royal Knights, or sometimes the Royal Guard. They take their orders mainly from their Lord Commander, who is subordinate to the King. These forces are made up of knights equipped with swords or axes, sometimes supported by magicians or mastiffs.

The elite of the Royal Knights form the Royal Cavalry, knights mounted on the backs of particularly fast chocobos. Waloed can also count on a powerful fleet whose flagship, the Einherjar, is a fearsome galleon. Thanks to its fleet, the kingdom can rapidly deploy its troops anywhere in Valisthea, and can also defend its coasts to ensure its dominant position on the continent of Ash.

The kingdom's elite unit, the Royal Intelligencers, is under the command of Benedikta Harman, the Dominant of Garuda. Unlike the Royal Knights, the intelligencers are only answerable to the King. This unit is mainly used for clandestine actions and incursions into the heart of enemy territory for a myriad of purposes, including espionage, sabotage, and assassination.

History
The Kingdom of Waloed was established in the Year of the Realm 843 by Barnabas Tharmr, who took advantage of the unrest caused by the war between the Kingdom of Veldemarke (who controlled Ash) and the Holy Empire of Sanbreque (who controlled northern Storm) and pacified the entire continent of Ash. He then destroyed the Kingdom of Veldemarke and established its remains as the Kingdom of Waloed. Stonhyrr, the capital of Waloed, was built on these remains, and was located on the coast of Frigg's Calm, Ash's northernmost bay.

Culture
Ash's relative isolation from Storm meant that Waloed developed several unique facets of its culture. Ultima's connection to the continent is second to none, and is heightened through the following of King Barnabas Tharmr. A savior cultโ€”an offshoot of the ancient Circle of Malius, whose followers worshipped Ultima as a godโ€”arose in recent years in Ash, popularized by King Barnabas, who spread its prayers and rituals among his people. Believers in the savior cult see becoming Akashic as a means of achieving purity, and of being freed from the torments of the mortal realm. Mikkelburg in southern Waloed became a gathering place for followers of the savior cult.

The idea of Primogenesis occurring became something of a legend in Ash, where it was referred to as 'The Arche'โ€”the coming of the cursed skies had long been foretold as a harbinger of the end of all things.

Politics
Founded in conquest, Waloed is a military dictatorship, with the monarch being its sole ruling authority. It is not apparent if there were other ruling bodies in Waloed, but as most of its identity is tied to the military, it can be assumed that nearly all authority is vested with King Barnabas Tharmr (and therefore Ultima) regardless.

Economy
Waloed is renowned throughout Valisthea for its ore mines, which house high-quality metals found only on the continent on Ash. Following the nation's founding it went into isolation, effectively cutting its economy off from the other nations.

Geography
Compared to the more urbanized Storm, the continent of Ash, which Waloed occupies, mostly remains an untamed, mountainous, and swampy wilderness, with its most developed parts being just the areas around the capital.

It is difficult to enter Ash (and therefore Waloed) due to violent currents surrounding the continent combined with most of the outlying areas, such as the Shadow Coast, being marked by sheer cliffs and sharp rock formations. This is a double-edged sword for Waloed; these areas being so dangerous enables them to act as covert staging grounds for daring adventurers used during incursions into the kingdom, as no one in their right mind would dare traverse them.

Drake's Spine is a towering violet Mothercrystal that rises over Stonhyrr, the capital city of Waloed. The skies above are perpetually stormy, seemingly due to the crystal's influence.

Reverie is an impossibly tall tower in central Waloed described to pierce the very heavens. The few followers of the Circle of Malius remaining on Ash believe it to have been built by the gods, who would one day pass their final judgment from its heights. It has long been considered hallowed ground, whereupon mere mortals fear to tread. In truth, it was indeed built by Ultima, who used its heights to determine places of great aether flow that would soon be locations for his Mothercrystals.

Military
A product of conquest, Waloed is a heavily militarized nation, with the entire country revolving around maintaining its armies. According to Vivian Ninetales, Waloed's military would not lose out to any nation on the continent of Storm and is well regarded for its powerful navy, especially its flagship: the Einherjar.

This militarism extends to the nation's policy toward Bearers; whereas the other nations mostly use them for mundane tasks, Waloed drafts them into their military, where they undergo grueling training to be used as expendable soldiers. The Badbach Conservatory was used to horrifically experiment on Bearers to turn them into fearless weapons of war, a process few survived. Balmung Dark was used to train untrainable beasts of war, like behemoths. When Waloed fell to Primogenesis and Ultima's machinations, the Bearers sent to the Dark were left to starve or used to feed the Kuza Beast still left inside.

Foreign relations
The sole nation on the continent of Ash after its founding, Waloed exists a state of isolation from the rest of Valisthea. while it has a vested interest in maintaining some influence on the neighbouring continent of Storm, the nation overall uninterested in outside affairs, causing its relations with other countries to vary wildly.

~The Heroes of The Story~

Clive Rosfield
First son of the Archduke of Rosaria, he is the main protagonist and playable character. As the First Shield of Rosaria, Clive is tasked with guarding his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of Phoenix, and is blessed with the ability to wield part of his fire.

Joshua Rosfield
Second son of the Archduke of Rosaria, he is the Dominant of Phoenix, Eikon of Fire and Clive's younger brother. Despite his noble upbringing, he treats everyone with kindness and warmth, especially his older brother. Has a dislike for carrots.

Jill Warrick
A ward of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, who maintains peace between their nation and the Northern Territories, from which Jill was born and abducted from. Along with being their confidant, she was raised alongside Clive and Joshua and is very much a sister to them. She is the Dominant of Shiva.

Benedikta Harman
The Dominant of Garuda, Warden of the Wind. After a tumultuous childhood, Benedikta used her talent for swordplay and panache for subterfuge to become leader of Waloed's intelligencers. She encounters Clive while searching for the second Eikon of Fire.

Hugo Kupka
Permanent Economic Advisor to the Dhalmekian Republic and Dominant of the Eikon Titan. His awakening as Dominant brought him suddenly to the forefront of politics, where he amassed personal wealth through policy making and control over the armies.

Cidolfus Telamon
Also known as "Cid", he is the Dominant of Ramuh and leads an organization that protects Bearers and Dominants at the mercy of the world's governments.

Barnabas Tharmr
The King of Waloed, he originally arrived on the shores of Ash as a landless and titleless wanderer, where his skill with the blade won him the Kingdom. When the local beastmen rose up in revolt, he called on the power of his Eikon, Odin, to quell their rebellions nigh single-handedly, bringing the eastern continent under the Waloeder banner. Yet with a army and navy that rivaled Valisthea at his disposal, he is drawn to where the fighting is. He rides into battle atop his spectral steed and sunders foes with his fabled black blade, or merely observes the unfolding chaos from the sidelines, a grisly gleam of fascination ever in his eyes.

Dion Lesage
Crown prince of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque and leader of its noblest and most feared order of knightsโ€”the dragoons. Dion is loved and respected both his people and troops, not least because he personally has turned the tide of battle many times. Many songs of his heroism are sung by Sanbrequois bards.

Ultima
Ultima is the main antagonist and final boss of Final Fantasy XVI. He is a mysterious, god-like being who manipulates events across Valisthea from behind the scenes, instigating conflict between the various nations of the land and pitting their Dominants against each other. Clive Rosfield and his allies confront him various times throughout their journeys as they seek to discover the truth behind him and his connections to the Mothercrystals, the Blight, and the Eikons.

~Son of Fire~

The firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria. Though all expected him to inherit the Phoenix's flames and awaken as its Dominant, destiny instead chose his younger brother Joshua to bear this burden. In search of a role of his own, Clive dedicated himself to mastering the blade. His practice pays off when, at just fifteen years of age, he wins the ducal tournament and is dubbed the First Shield of Rosariaโ€”tasked to guard the Phoenix and blessed with the ability to wield apart of his fire. Alas, Clive's promising career is to end in tragedy at the hands of a mysterious dark Eikon, Ifrit, setting him on a dangerous road to revenge. -Online description

History
Clive Rosfield was the firstborn son of Archduke Elwin Rosfield and his wife, Anabella. As the eldest son of the Rosfield bloodline, he was expected to inherit the power of the Phoenix, the Eikon of Fire. When he never awakened as such, Anabella considered him a failure and treated him with contempt.

Clive's younger brother, Joshua, became the Dominant of the Phoenix. A 15-year-old Clive was chosen as his First Shield, receiving a portion of the power of the Phoenix that he could use to protect his brother. Clive grew up alongside his brother and their common friend and the archduke's ward, Jill Warrick, whom Clive cared for like a sister. One day, when they joined Elwin on his annual tour of Rosaria, Clive wanted to show Jill the snow daisies at Mann's Hill, but they got caught in bad weather and never reached their destination. Whenever he wanted to be on his own, Clive would row to an island off the coast of Quietsands with his pet wolf pup, Torgal, where he had a secret tree house. Clive was close with his uncle, Byron Rosfield, and used to act out scenes from The Saint and the Secretary with him, Clive always insisting he be Sir Crandall while Byron play the villain Madu.

...

Characteristics - Appearance
Clive is a well-built man with black hair and blue eyes. He wears a small, black earring on his left ear. Like Joshua, Clive's signature colors are red and black, but his attires feature more black whereas Joshua's feature more red.

In his youth, his hair is cut short and he wears a white vest over a red shirt, with red gloves. He was equipped with leather shoulder pauldrons, elbow guards, and hip armor, along with a Rosarian Oath longsword to carry out his duties as First Shield of Rosaria.

Thirteen years after the Night of Flames and his enslavement into the imperial army, the 28-year-old Clive bears the brand of a Bearer on his left cheek, has grown a chinstrap beard, and his hair is long and unkempt. His body is covered in scars after many years of combat. He wears a tattered, greenish-gray uniform equipped with chainmail and metal shoulder guards, brown leather gloves with small metal plates on the forearms and fingers, metal hip armor, and leather boots. After meeting with Hanna Murdoch in Eastpool, he receives a new set of clothing that once belonged to his late father, Elwin, consisting of a red and black vest with chainmail on the arms, black metal gauntlets and knee guards, and a black hooded cape, along with the Invictus sword that was once given to Rodney Murdoch. Invictus is his "canon" weapon, appearing as his sword in prerendered cutscenes. He also has a smaller sword hanging from his belt, but it is never used.

Five years later, Clive's hair is longer, his facial hair thicker, and he now has a large scar on his face after having his brand surgically removed. His clothing has become more ragged in the five years, especially the frayed edge of his cape.

A free update adds a new skin for Clive, "Burnt Black", where he is nigh entirely covered in black leather with tears on its surface and glowing red details. He still wears a black leather cape.

Characteristics - Personality
During his younger years at 15 years old, Clive was shown to be a kind, honorable, idealistic and caring individual, with a strong determination to prove himself and find his purpose after being passed over as Dominant of the Phoenix. Despite not being chosen by the Phoenix, resulting in his own mother scorning him, and Joshua becoming both the Dominant and heir to the Grand Duchy, Clive doesn't hold any ill-feelings, jealousy or even envy towards his younger brother. Instead, Clive loves Joshua immensely, with him becoming First Shield not just as a means to prove himself, but also to protect Joshua. His little brother likewise looks up to Clive greatly, if not almost worshiping him, resulting in their brotherly bond to be very strong. He likewise views the family ward Jill to be like a sister to him and treats her as such. Eventually, as Clive gets older he realizes he is in love with Jill. Clive also deeply appreciates the support and faith his father shows him despite not being the Dominant as it was to be expected of the eldest child of the Rosfield family.

His kindness, admirable determination, dedication to his duty and open nature has earned him the respect and support of his fellow soldiers and the people, who offer sympathy at the poor treatment he receives from his mother. Clive likewise heavily dislikes how the Branded are treated, whether as tools or weapons, instead treating them as human beings, thus being polite and kind to them. His only negative relationship is with his mother Anabella, who took great importance on the family's lineage and him not being the Dominant resulted in her viewing Clive as a failure. Despite his mother's cold and arrogant behavior towards him, Clive shows no true anger or resentment, instead showing deference to her but does show sadness that despite his efforts, she displays no faith in him. He likely does this mainly for the family's sake despite the people and even his brother and father disliking how Anabella treats him. However, Clive appeared to accept that his mother may never display any real affection for him, no matter what he does to prove himself. Years after Anabella's betrayal and witnessing her ever-increasing acts of sadism and atrocious acts, Clive came to wonder if he ever truly knew his mother.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]As the second Dominant of Fire, Clive can use Ifrit's powers to manifest fire at will, such as for illumination or for offensive fire spells. He is an adept swordsman, having practiced since childhood to become Joshua's First Shield. Clive has the unique ability of absorbing other Dominants' Eikons' aether and wielding multiple elements and Eikonic abilities simultaneously in what appears akin to semi-priming, though he can only fully prime Ifrit.

The second son of the Archduke of Rosaria and Clive's younger brother by five years. Joshua awoke as the Dominant of the Phoenix soon after his birth. Despite his noble upbringing, Joshua treats all his father's subjects with warmth and affectionโ€”none more so than Clive, whom he deeply admires. Joshua often laments that it was he, the frail and bookish younger son, who was granted command of the firebird's flames, and not his stronger, braver brother. While Clive will gladly throw himself into any danger, Joshua quails at the sight of a carrot on his dinner plate. But carrots become the least of his concern when he, too, is swept up into the tragic events that change Clive's life forever. -Online description

History
~Early life~
Joshua was born as the second son of Archduke Elwin and his wife, Anabella. Whereas his elder brother, Clive, never awakened as the Phoenix, Joshua was chosen as the Dominant of Fire. Because of this, Anabella doted on Joshua and scorned Clive. Although Joshua was a Dominant, he was sickly all his life. Throughout his childhood, he grew up alongside Clive and Elwin's ward, Jill Warrick. When Joshua was nine years old, he met Prince Dion of Sanbreque in a remembrance ceremony where the leaders of Sanbreque, Dhalmekia, and Rosaria were gathering.

~Night of Flames~
Clive was chosen to become Joshua's First Shield, and an elated Joshua granted Clive the Blessing of the Phoenix, which allowed Clive to wield a portion of his magic. One day, Joshua and Jill watched Clive sparring. However, trouble was brewing because of the Blight spreading to Rosaria at long last, and reports were coming in that the Iron Kingdom might be moving against the duchy. Elwin decided to take action, and needed Joshua to come along. Clive, too, was to join them at Phoenix Gate castle, but he took a detour.

At the Phoenix Gate, Elwin, the ten-year-old Joshua, and the fifteen-year-old Clive enjoyed a meal during the night and Joshua talked with Clive, and Clive swore to protect him always.

During the night, Joshua woke up into a commotion within the castle. Assassins from the Holy Empire of Sanbreque had infiltrated the castle and killed everyone they could find. Joshua gathered with some Shields and fought off some of the imperials. Clive joined him, and he intended to remain behind to keep the imperials occupied while Joshua and Elwin escape. As soon as he left, they were ambushed and Elwin was killed. The sorrow of seeing his father dead caused Joshua's Dominant powers to go out of control, and he primed Phoenix and set the castle ablaze. Clive tried to reach him, but something impossible happened: a second Eikon of Fire, Ifrit, emerged and attacked Phoenix. In a titanic clash between the two Eikons, Ifrit seemingly killed Phoenix, and thus, Joshua. Clive swore to find and kill the Ifrit's Dominant, whom he believed killed his brother.

In the morning, Joshua's corpse was not found among the dead within the castle, but he was nevertheless believed dead. Unbeknownst to everyone, Joshua had been rescued by the Undying, a shadow organization which has protected the Rosfield family in secret for generations. The Undying spirited the comatose Joshua away, but he stayed unresponsive for five years until miraculously regaining consciousness in 865 when he was fifteen years old.

~The Journey~
At age eighteen, his body finally healed from the tragedy of eight years ago, Joshua began to investigate the Night of Flames and the second Eikon of Fire. He delved into books he and the Undying could get their hands on, and to train with his sword again for self-defense. At age 20,the Undying heard of a Branded soldier in employment of Sanbreque seemingly wielding the Blessing of the Phoenix. The other Undying, especially their leader, Cyril, believed Clive could have been the destructive second Eikon of Fire, and wanted to send assassins after him, but Joshua believed something else was afoot and to find the truth.

Characteristics - Appearance

Characteristics - Personality
Joshua is kind-hearted, compassionate, and bookish, and despite being frail and sickly, he wants to do his part to help his family and their home. As a child he was especially close to his older brother, Clive, viewed Jill as a sister, and had a close bond with Clive's wolf pup, Torgal. Joshua admires and respects his father Elwin, coming to him for advice regarding his role as the Phoenix's Dominant. His relationship with his mother, Anabella, is uneasy despite being her favorite. Joshua feels constrained and pressured after being chosen by the Phoenix, as Anabella often kept him in the confines of the castle and objected to how he mingled with the people dueto her obsession with prestige and lineage. Though he would later on come to be disgusted with his mother's actions, a piece of Joshua nonetheless still loves her and he even tries to save her after all of her plans come crashing down, leaving Anabella to be driven mad. He is left saddened that his mother refused to be saved and denied reality until the end.

Though Joshua was chosen by the Phoenix over Clive, he did not hold anything against his brother and silently objected to their mother's poor treatment of Clive. Even at ten years old Joshua believed Clive would have been the more suitable choice as the Phoenix's Dominant, given how his older brother was more confident, daring, and skilled in combat, but after encouragement from Clive, he accepted his position and vowed to fulfill his duty. Since Joshua was still naรฏve and inexperienced, he was emotionally unprepared for the struggles of combat, much less the horrors of war, as he quickly lost control over his Dominant abilities after seeing his father die.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]As the Dominant of Fire, Joshua can use Phoenix's powers to heal others' injuries and manifest fire at will, such as for illumination or for offensive fire spells. He can conjure magicked barriers that withstand any attack but consume a lot of his aether. He can use the Phoenix's power to trap an aethereal entity inside his own body to keep as prisoner. As the Dominant, Joshua can semi-prime and prime to gain physical attributes of his Eikon to grow stronger in the former, and fully transform his flesh into the legendary firebird in the latter.

As is custom in Rosaria, Joshua shares a small part of his power with the First Shield. He can conjure a magical Phoenix feather for Clive, that appears to hold some of the Phoenix's essence; even after the events in Origin, the feather does not fade. The feather serves as a "thread of fate"connecting the brothers and symbolizing their unbreakable bond even when parted.

Born in the fallen Northern Territories, Jill was taken from her homeland at a tender age to become a ward of Rosaria. The Archduke insisted that she be raised alongside his sons, and she became as much a part of the Rosfield household as Clive and Joshua. Alas, fate was not finished with her yetโ€”it saw the three torn apart, and the bone-chilling power of the Eikon Shiva awaken within her. -Online description

History
Not much is known about Jill's early years, but what is known is that she was born in the Northern Territories. When the Mothercrystal of the Northern Territories fell, and Blight took over, the armies of the Territories began to bear down on neighbouring Rosaria. However, under the command of Archduke Elwin Rosfield, Rosaria was able to fend off the invasion. As part of the peace agreement, young Jill was to be given to Elwin as a ward.

Despite being a ward for Rosaria, Jill was treated with kindness by Elwin and Rosarian people, and she grew up with Elwin's two sons, Clive and Joshua. The three became close, with Jill viewing the two boys like her brothers. The three of them also had a wolf pup named Torgal, whom Elwin had found alone in the northern territories. Jill grew up to love Rosaria as her home, even though Elwin's wife, duchess Anabella, saw Jill a little more than a savage. To that end, Jill held a degree of fear towards the duchess.

When the Iron Kingdom began to move against Rosaria, Elwin took Clive and Joshua to the castle of Phoenix Gate to prepare for what was to come. Little did Jill know that this event would lead her to be separated from Clive and Joshua for many years. A disaster struck at the castle, leaving Elwin dead, Clive to be enslaved by the Holy Empire of Sanbreque and Joshua believed dead. Shortly after this, Rosaria was invaded by the Iron Kingdom, and they took Jill. Jill's powers as the Dominant of Shiva emerged and she was turned into abominable weapon for the Iron Kingdom. Forced into to doing their bidding with a threat of killing other people the Ironblood had enslaved, Jill had little choice. While the Iron Kingdom viewed Dominants as abominations, they nevertheless did not hesitate in turning Jill into a weapon. Her Dominant status was also the only reason why Imreann did not use her as a concubine upon capture.

...

Characteristics - Appearance
Jill is a woman of average build with gray hair and eyes. When she was younger, she had shoulder-length hair. As an adult, she has her hair tied with a ribbon along with a single braid.

Characteristics - Personality
Jill is a calm, solemn, and tranquil. She possesses a quiet strength and unwavering loyalty. She carries herself with grace and seriousness, demonstrating a serene demeanor and a kind nature.

As a child and ward of the Rosfield family, Jill got along with Clive and Joshua, who treated her as a sister. She had a close bond with the wolf pup Torgal, Clive later stating they were practically inseparable.

Jill looked up to Elwin Rosfield for taking her in and treating her kindly. Anabella Rosfield, however, was less generous on how she viewed Jill, barely acknowledging her existence to deeming her a "savage", leading Jill to avoid her. Following the incident at Phoenix Gate and the duchy being raided by the Ironblood, Jill's kidnapping and eventual awakening as a Dominant forced her to live a hard life as the kingdom's weapon under the threat of murder of her fellow captives. To cope with the atrocities she was made to commit, she grew distant and cold, viewing her actions as the fault of her captors and reminding herself that by fighting her fellow prisoners would be kept alive. Her guilt over her actions left her wanting for someone to kill her in battle. She later grew to hate Anabella after learning of her role in the "purge" of a Bearer village in Rosaria, though she did nevertheless express some pity after witnessing Anabella commit suicide in a fit of madness.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]As the Warden of Ice, Jill can use ice magicks and prime to become the Eikon Shiva. She is also an adept swordsman.

~Lady of the Wind~

Having emerged from the storm of youth cold-hearted and ruthless, Benedikta Harmanโ€”Dominant of the Eikon Garuda, Warden of the Windโ€”turned her talent for swordplay and subterfuge into a command of Waloed's elite intelligencers. It is on a mission to find the elusive second Eikon of Fire that she crosses paths with a like-minded Clive and is forced to face her past. -Online description

History
Benedikta was born to a poor family in 845 in the countryside of Waloed, and her family sold hereto a wealthy family to act as a servant girl when she was six years old. When she was fifteen, her master almost killed her after wrongly accusing her of theft, but Benedikta awoke as the Dominant of Garuda and fled. Attacked by bandits, she was rescued by Cidolfus Telamonand began accompanying him. They came in the services of Barnabas Tharmr, king of Waloed, with Cid as his lord commander and Benedikta a regular soldier, gaining the surname "Harman" from the king, "Harman", meaning "servant of God". At age eighteen, she joined the covert operations department and was deployed to make contact with Hugo Kupka, the Dominant of Titan and an influential man in the Dhalmekian Republic. In two years she had started a relationship with Kupka and was promoted to the head of the Royal Intelligencers. When Benedikta was twenty-two, Cid fell out with Barnabasand left Waloed, causing Benedikta to develop a grudge against him.

It is unknown if her feelings for Hugo were genuine, or if she was just manipulating him. Her feelings for Cid remain strong though she resents him for leaving Waloed, and she keeps the pendant he had given her always on her person.

Thirteen years after the Night of Flames, Benedikta accompanied Barnabas to Dhalmekia, where she witnessed a battle between Dhalmekia and the Iron Kingdom, and a clash between Titan and Shiva. Benedikta led her intelligencers in an attempt to seek out and capture Dominants; her first target was apparently Shiva, but she disappeared. Soon after she took on rumors about a Dominant of Fire, who apparently emerged thirteen years ago and killed the Phoenix, having been witnessed in Sanbreque, and began to search for him.

...

Characteristics - Appearance
Benedikta is a young woman with a curvaceous build. She has blonde hair styled in a long bob, and wears a black leather jumpsuit with a V-shaped neckline adorned with long white feathers or fur. She has hazel eyes. She keeps her sword in a holster on her belt that also wraps around her left thigh. Her fingernails are painted yellow.

Characteristics - Personality
Benedikta is initially cold, seductive, domineering, and ruthless, showing little to no mercy towards her enemies. She values the loyalty and skill of her soldiers, but should they display incompetence, Benedikta does not hesitate to execute them. She believes in absolute loyalty; a prisoner who once tried selling out his comrades was executed because, from Benedikta's point of view, the prisoner showed a willingness to betray others and could not be trusted to stay loyal to the kingdom. She herself displays a great deal of loyalty in her king, Barnabas Tharmr, and supports his dream of making a new world. She thought highly of Cidolfus Telamon when they served together under Barnabas, but developed a grudge against him after he had a falling out with the king and deserted Waloed. When meet again years later, Benedikta tried to convince Cid to return to Waloed, only to be disappointed and angry when he refused and began to speak ill of Barnabas. Cid notes that Benedikta was not the person he once knew after being influenced by Barnabas.

Benedikta has many lovers, including Hugo Kupka, an ally of Waloed, and the Dominant of Titan, who dreamed of one day ruling over the world with Benedikta at his side. She also graced the bed of her king, but it does not appear Barnabas was in love with her. Whether she was in denial about it due to him deserting Waloed, Benedikta's true love may have been Cid, who once rescued her from captivity. However, any love she may have harbored for Cid was not enough to overcome her insecurities.

Benedikta is arrogant and sure of her abilities as Dominant of Garuda, which leads her to scorn her opponents. This leads her to underestimate Clive, initially viewing him as a Bearer, something beneath her. As Clive puts up a fight, wounds her, and eventually defeats her, Benedikta loses her composure and focus, leading to a temper tantrum, ranting how it is "impossible" a Branded could defeat her.

After Clive absorbs Garuda's aether from Benedikta, leading Benedikta to temporarily lose her ability to use the powers of wind, she goes through a fear-induced breakdown, wondering what will become of her, revealing that she is insecure of her worth in the world, especially towards Barnabas. She begins to murmur to herself on what Barnabas will do to her now that she no longer has Garuda's power, dreading the possibility her king will discard her. After nearly being taken by bandits as new "property", Benedikta gives into her fear, losing control over her powers, and primes Garuda without being able to control her, leading to the Eikon running like a wild, frenzied predator.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]Benedikta is implied to be skilled in espionage, being the leader of Waloed's intelligencers. Her true power is the callousness toward human life, which allows her to quickly and emotionlessly discard any person she considers to be in her way. She is skilled in swordsmanship, though in her work as a spy usually avoids direct confrontation, and when she does, she fights using magic.

Having awakened as the Dominant of Garuda, the Warden of Wind, Benedikta can use wind magicks and become her Eikon, both partially in a semi-prime, and fully when she primes her entire flesh. Benedikta considers her Egis her sisters, feathered humanoid monsters that she can call upon to help her. She can light her cigarette with a press of her fingertip, so not all magic she wields is wind-aspected.๐ญ๐š ๐‡๐š๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ง)

Permanent Economic Advisor Hugo Kupka's meteoric rise to prominence was sudden, if not unexpected. Once a nameless foot soldier in the Republican Army, his awakening as Dominant of the Eikon Titan thrust him to the forefront of Dhalmekian politics. It was here he used his newfound position as the most powerful man in the republic to exert influence over both the nation's armies and its policy makingโ€”amassing a personal fortune in the process. Yet while it is said that a man who has everything wants for nothing, Benedikta Harman will teach him money and power are far from all the world has to offer. -Online description

History
Hugo was once an ordinary foot soldier in the republican army whose fortunes turned when he awakened as the Dominant of Titan, which granted him a permanent seat at the Dhalmekian Parliament. Using his newfound station, he would demand compensation in return for his services to the republic, allowing him to build up a great personal fortune. This, in turn, enabled him to seize control of the nation's Mothercrystal, Drake's Fang, by purchasing the land as well as the loyalties of its guards, the "Men of the Rock", turning the location into his personal palace and the Men of the Rock as his personal army.

Hugo met the 20-year-old Benedikta Harman of Waloed when King Barnabas sent her to make contact and Hugo fell madly in love with her, though it is implied that she was just manipulating him for Barnabas's machinations. He also became acquainted with Cidolfus Telamonand Sleipnir Harbard, likely through Benedikta.

In the year 873, during the Battle of Nysa, Hugo was present during discussions of Waloed coming to the aid of the Dhalmekian Republic against the Iron Kingdom, who had come into possession of the Dominant of Shiva. When King Barnabas refused, Hugo decided to fight the Ironblood forces himself, much to the chagrin of his councilmen. As he made his way out of the meeting room, Benedikta followed and the two shared an intimate moment. Benedikta asked him to take care but Hugo considered himself unbeatable and thus any worry to be unnecessary. Hugo primed into Titan and was met by Shiva on the battlefield. The two Eikons' clash wrought destruction across the Nysa Defile, causing many indirect deaths. Titan drove back the Ironbloods while Benedikta watched the battle from afar, unimpressed that Titan had not caught Shiva.

...

Characteristics - Appearance
A large and sturdy man, Hugo Kupka towers over others, adding to his domineering nature. Bearing tanned skin with gray-white short hair and powerful muscles, Hugo wears clothes that reflect his position, such as golden, bejeweled rings. After his first battle with Clive, Hugo wears metal hand prosthetics for appearances, but cannot perform the simplest of tasks with them much to his immense frustration.

Characteristics - Personality
As the Dominant of Titan and the permanent economic advisor, Hugo is a powerful man in Dhalmekian politics. His role as the economic advisor mainly means that the state needs to pay him should Hugo take part in the republic's wars as Titan, allowing Hugo to amass a sizeable personal wealth. He uses his power and position for personal gain and enrichment, and protecting the nation's interests comes second. He views himself as the king of the world wielding the powers of a god and looks down on everyone. During a negotiation with Barnabas he disagrees with the Dhalmekian marshal, disrespects his personal space, and spews cigar smoke in his face. He is ruthless and has no qualms about taking innocent lives and crushing the dreams of others to pursue his own goals. Nonetheless, Hugo possesses some political skill and pragmaticism when conducting negotiations and attending matters of state.

One quality that sets Hugo apart from other Dominants is his love for Benedikta. While he serves as Titan's Dominant and the Dhalmekian economic advisor, he wants nothing more than to rule the world with Benedikta at his side. When he is not partaking in political matters, Hugo plays the lady's man around Benedikta. While it is unclear whether she reciprocates the romantic feelings, Hugo nonetheless hopes she will be there to welcome him home after he returns from the battlefield. When he is informed of his lover's death and shown her severed head, Hugo becomes heartbroken and enraged, swearing vengeance on Cid and his group under the belief the mutilation was their doing.

His vindictiveness leads him to destroy Cid's hideaway and most of the dwellers. He spends years hunting Cid, using Bearers as bait to trap him. While having his men hunt for Cid, Hugo maintains a semblance of sanity and professionalism while discussing Dhalmekia's next move against Sanbreque and the Dominant of Bahamut, Dion. He proves to be a good bargainer, especially when he offers Clive's mother, Anabella, a seat of power so he may retire as the economic advisor and focus on his quest for revenge. Hugo's mental state deteriorates when his vindictiveness leads him to take over Rosaria and command his soldiers to murder its people to lure Cid out, having learned that the "Cid the Outlaw" making a name for himself is actually Clive Rosfield, the original Cid's protege. He attempts to have Clive's partner Jill beheaded to get even, and after discovering that Clive is Benedikta's true murderer, Hugo reaffirms his thirst for vengeance, finding it pleasing to murder the man who killed the woman he loved directly rather than simply take the life of someone close to him.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]In battle, Hugo takes pride in his status as the Dominant of Titan, believing himself to be in his element when faced with adversity, given that his abilities allow him to interact with and manipulate the earth itself. When primed, Hugo towers over the landscape as Titan. When he semi-primes, his body takes on some qualities of Titan, especially the giant's massive hands, which Hugo uses for battle, pummeling his foes to dust, and causing earthquakes by slamming the floor. When he absorbs aether from the Mothercrystal, he is able to grow into a mountainous size and prime a version of Titan that he ultimately cannot control.

~Cid~

Known to his friends as "Cid," this soldier turned outlaw strives to build a place where persecuted Bearers and exploited Dominants can die on their own terms. A man of science, he also conducts research into how one might live in the deadlandsโ€”as he and his band of fellow heretics must. Cid is also a Dominantโ€”the power of the Eikon Ramuh having awoken within him shortly after he landed on Valisthean shores. No doubt it was this power that saw him rise through the ranks of the Royal Waloeder Armyโ€”where it would seem he crossed paths with a certain Benedikta Harman... -Online description

History
Cid was born in the lands beyond the southern seas of Valisthea, before crossing over at some point. He came to settle in the Kingdom of Waloed and once saved a 15-year-oldBenedikta Harman, an escaped slave who recently awoke as the Dominant of Garuda, from bandits. Thirteen years prior to saving Benedikta, he came to work for King Barnabas after awakening as a Dominant. Eventually earning his trust, he became his Lord Commander. Once Benedikta was recruited a decade later, she eventually rose to the position of head of covert operations. Cid gifted Benedikta the wing pendant she always holds on her person.

Cid eventually fled Ash after having a falling out with Barnabas and became estranged from Benedikta. When Cid's friend Otto's son was found to be a Bearer (magic-users who are systematically enslaved on Valisthea), without missing a beat Cid decided to start a movement to save people from this fate.

...

Characteristics - Appearance
Cid is a middle aged man who appears to maintain his appearance: he has a well-built body, short light brown swept back hair, a stubble beard, and green eyes. He wears a carefree attire consisting of a long-sleeved hard leather dark purple vest with unkempt collar over a deep blue open shirt, leather gloves, and two belts over his waist, one black one cyan. He has two swords attached to his belts. He wears purple pants and a pair of long brown leather boots.

Characteristics - Personality
A rogue with a sarcastic sense of humor and a heart of gold, Cid dreams of a world where Dominants and Bearers are no longer used or feared. Even though Cid himself is the Dominant of Ramuh, he does not take much pride or importance with his powers, even stating that Ramuh "haunts" him. Further, Cid states that though Dominants are exalted or used as weapons, they are not treated as people but as outcasts. Cid is pragmatic enough to know the benefits (and costs) of his Dominant powers, such as giving him and his allies an edge in battle. When the situation demands it, Cid calls upon Ramuh. He feels that the Bearers are no different from non-magic users and same goes with Dominants. He is disgusted with the system of slavery the Bearers are forced to endure which led him to begin his underground mission to save as many Bearers from abuse and persecution as he could.

Cid has aptitude for leadership and organization, having once been Lord Commander of Waloed's armies, built his hideaway in secret, and saved a great many Bearers. He is an excellent judge of character, having built a network of trusted contacts across Valisthea to help him. He noticed the dark nature that both Barnabas Tharmr and Benedikta Harman began to show, which likely contributed to his decision to desert Waloed. Though a part of him hoped he could convince Benedikta to join him, her desire for power and crippling insecurities made it impossible for him to save her. Cid seems to hold a low opinion of Barnabas, stating the king is a man who makes "empty promises". Cid believed that Clive Rosfield had potential to help him in not only ending the Bearer system of slavery, but also destroy the Mothercrystals that were, as he believed, siphoning aether from the land and spreading the Blight. He instantly recognized Ultima and his evil intentions with Clive during the first encounter at Drake's Head, due to making the connection that Ultima is what corrupted and changed Barnabas. Not wanting to lose Clive to Ultima as well, he attacked Ultima to protect Clive, despite his wounds. After being mortally wounded, he left the leadership of the hideaway and his very name to Clive, confident that he will accomplish his goal of creating a world where people can live and die by their own terms. Cid's suspicions about Barnabas' change and his faith in Clive would be vindicated after the discovery of Barnabas's connection to Ultima and Clive succeeding in destroying the Mothercrystals and defeating Ultima, ending the presence of magic in Valisthea. Even after his death, he gave encouragement to Clive, telling him to "go on" as the latter overpowered Ultima's version of Ramuh's lightning rods.

Cid is a loving and attentive father to his adopted daughter Mid, ensuring she had a good education and life, despite his own standing as an outlaw, believing his daughter and their inventions could make the world a better place. His decision would not only lead Mid to be a relative mechanical genius but her prized project, the Enterprise, would play an invaluable role in the group's mission.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]As the Warden of Thunder, Cid can use lightning magicks and prime to become the Eikon Ramuh. Despite being a Dominant and able to channel aether, he also uses crystal shards for some tasks, such as lighting his cigarette.

Beyond his aether-channeling powers, Cid is also an adept engineer, and has drawn up various blue prints for inventions. He and Mid designed a ship together, naming it Enterprise. He is also an adept swordsman.

~The Last King~

Arriving on the shores of Ash as a landless and titleless wanderer, it was Barnabas's skill with a blade that won him a kingdom. And though the local beastmen were to rise in revolt against his rule, Barnabas called on the power of his Eikon, Odin, to quell their rebellions nigh single-handedly, bringing the entirety of the eastern continent under the Waloeder banner. Now he has an army and navy that rival any in Valisthea at his disposal, yet still the king is drawn to where the fighting is thickestโ€”riding into battle atop his spectral steed and sundering foes with his fabled black blade, or merely observing the unfolding chaos from the sidelines, a grisly gleam of fascination ever in his eyes. -Online description

History
While much of Barnabas's early life remains a mystery, he was apparently raised in the lands beyond the Southern Seas of Valisthea by his mother who was a follower of the "Circle of Malius", an ancient religion that worshipped Ultima. Due to their beliefs being viewed as heresy, she ended up being killed by members of a rival religion. This event seems to have instilled a great hatred toward humanity within Barnabas and forced him to flee to Valisthea to avoid similar persecution, setting the trajectory of his life.

As a descendant of the "Motes of Darkness", a people whose lineage was bound to Odin, Barnabas eventually awakened as the Dominant of the Eikon. Sometime after his arrival on the continent of Ash, he quelled the beast tribe rebellions and established the Kingdom of Waloed with its capital, Stonhyrr, built upon the nation he conquered: Veldermarke. In the year 850, Ultima confronted Barnabas, the very being whom his people worshipped. Aligning himself with his god's belief that all of humanity's evils stem from free will, Barnabas devoted himself to Ultima and in return was made Akashic while being allowed to maintain sanity and human appearance. Retaining his youth, Barnabas continued ruling his nation for forty years after his conquest of Ash. During his reign, he spread the beliefs and rituals of the savior cult among his people, extolling the virtues of abandoning free will exchange of becoming a "pure" mindless thrall free of mortal suffering.

Five years after the founding of his country, Barnabas would take Cidolfus Telamon in, recruiting him after he had awakened as a Dominant. Once Cidolfus had earned his trust, he rose to Lord Commander of the Royal Knights. A decade later, Cid would save Benedikta Harman and Barnabas would take her into his service, where she would eventually become head of special operations. The former had a falling out with him and defected from Waloed. While the details of their falling out remain ambiguous, it is possible that Cid learned of Barnabas's dedication to Ultima. To fill the void left by Cid, Barnabas had his Egi, Sleipnir Harbard, resume his previous position as lord commander.

...

Characteristics - Appearance
Despite being an Akashic, and his old age, Barnabas retains an ordinary, relatively-youthful appearance. He is a tall man with a lean but muscular build, with a scar on his chest. He has black hair with bangs that hang over his forehead, as well as blue eyes and a black stubble beard. His general attire consists of a royal blue, high-collar shirt with a gold trim, underneath a black doublet, pants and boots. He wears a black belt with gold adornments that wraps around his waist twice, as well as two pairs of smaller belts on his thighs, and another at the top of each boot.

In battle, Barnabas wears dark gray plate armor with small, blue trimmings and silver scrollwork decorating the breastplate. When he enters his semi-primed form, he grows at least third his height taller and dons a helmet with a metal crest and small, vertical slits on its visor, as well as a midnight blue sash draped over his shoulder and hanging from his back. The armor on his right arm changes to more closely resemble Odin's, with a more heavily-plated gauntlet and a pauldron with a large crest like the one on his helmet. After enacting his 'Quieting' ability in his final fight, his left arm changes to mirror his right and his helmet gains a pair of slim, spiked horns, reminiscent of the ones present on Odin's own helmet. The edges and patterns on his armor, as well as his sash, begin to glow bright blue.

After passing on his Eikon's power to Clive, Barnabas's skin turns pale blue, and his hair gray, as his corruption reveals itself.

Characteristics - Personality
Though regarded as one of the greatest warriors in Valisthea, Barnabas is apathetic, depressed, and even bored with his position as the King of Waloed. While he has many loyal followers, they mean nothing to him, seeing them as a means to an end and even going as far as to defile their corpses should it serve his goals. Barnabas does not appear to cause any unnecessary suffering however, only tormenting others to advance his agenda and even treating important prisoners humanely.

Barnabas's desensitization to the world around him seems to originate from a lifetime of exposure to humanity's worst traits: seeing the people squander magic as a "crutch" and the death of his mother due to religious differences. After having his childhood faith validated upon meeting Ultima, he came to the nihilistic conclusion that "free will" is the source of the world's woes and that humanity will only be granted salvation by surrendering it, turning his whole kingdom into Akashic as a form of "mercy", having seemingly given up hope for anything better. Clive later points out Barnabas's hypocrisy: despite believing free will to be evil, he himself chose to serve Ultima. Clive also notes that, misguided as he might have been, Barnabas truly sought to save humanity, even being willing to sacrifice himself for Ultima's promise of a paradise to come true.

A warrior at heart, deep down, Barnabas longs for a challenge, having long since grown tired of "lesser rivals" and encouraging him to often take to the battlefield in person. Toward the end of his final battle with Clive, he grows ecstatic at having finally found a worthy opponent.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]As the Warden of Darkness, Barnbas can use darkness magicks and prime to become the Eikon Odin. He is also an adept swordsman.

~Dion the Bold~

Crown prince of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque and leader of its noblest and most feared order of knightsโ€”the dragoons. Dion is loved and respected by both his people and his troops, not least for the many times he has turned the tide of battle in their favor. Indeed, songs of the heroism of the warrior prince and his Eikon Bahamut, King of Dragons, are never far from the lips and lutes of Sanbrequois bards. But all is not well in the empire, and the gathering shadows may yet be enough to quell Bahamut's light... -Online description

History
Dion Lesage is the first-born son of Sylvestre Lesage, emperor of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque. He was born out of an affair Sylvestre had with a courtesan in the Year of the Realm 850.Sylvestre's wife was a noblewoman who could not have children, and so Sylvestre sought to sire an heir with another. After Dion was born, Sylvestre pressured the courtesan to give up the baby to be raised by Sylvestre and his noblewoman wife, but had the courtesan killed afterward even if she agreed to conceal the real identity of his firstborn son's mother. When Dion was but one year old, he awakened as the Dominant of Bahamut. What happened to Sylvestre's first wife is unclear, but she also disappeared or died at some point.

Starting from seven years of age Dion began his schooling and studied alongside Terence, who was the same age as him. Dion was a prodigy in both military arts and literature. It is implied he was acquainted with the lord marquesses of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, Clive and Joshua Rosfield; in 859, when Dion was nine years old, he attended the Tri-Unity summit between the state leaders of Rosaria, Sanbreque, and Dhalmekia where he met Joshua, a fellow Dominant the same age as him and who was heir to the ducal throne. Unbeknown to everyone, Sylvestre conspired with the wife of the Archduke of Rosaria to have the empire annex Rosaria during this meeting, and a year later this happened during the Night of Flames when Elwin and his sons were announced to have been killed when the Phoenix went ona rampage. When the boys were twelve years old, Terence officially became Dion's attendant.

It is implied that Dion's status as the Dominant of Bahamut helped his father, already high-ranking in the Sanbrequois nobility, to be voted as the holy emperor of Sanbreque, and so Dion became the crown prince at fifteen years of age. Sylvestre remarried Anabella Rosfield, the former wife of the Rosarian archduke, and she soon became Empress Anabella and the vicereine of the now Imperial Province of Rosaria which she ruled with cruelty. Dion enlisted with the dragoons and participated in many wars as the nations of Valisthea fell further into chaos, becoming a war hero and celebrity. When Dion was seventeen, Anabella and Sylvestre had a son, Olivier Lesage, and Dion began studying under Harpocrates II Hyperboreos's tutelage.

...

Characteristics - Appearance
Dion has brown eyes and neck-length blond hair. He is tall, has a slender physique, and is usually seen wielding a halberd. He wears white clothing under his silver suit of armor, which has a turquoise shimmer to symbolize Bahamut's and Sanbreque's influence, much like Clive and Joshua's signature color being red. Dion wears silver earrings that resemble the shape of the tip of his halberd and have red stones.

His one arm is always bandaged and he tends to hold it close to his body when injured; he maybe concealing the effects of the crystals' curse, a malady that eventually affects all who channel aether through their flesh.

Characteristics - Personality
Seeing Anabella poisoning his family and trying to rob him of his birth right to satisfy her sense of entitlement, knowing that his people would suffer due to her influence, Dion considers rebelling to rid his home and family of her presence. He hesitated to usurp his father, whom he still loved and saw good in, but after declining to assist Joshua and choosing instead to lead a coup to save his kingdom, he would be left devastated after his father was revealed to be manipulated by Ultima. Ultima uses Dion to kill Sylvestre and then Dion's resulting shock and guilt to drive him to madness and destroy the capital city using his Eikon.

Dion manages to gain some manner of vengeance against both Ultima and Anabella by slaying Olivier, who was revealed to be little more than a vessel for Ultima. After his sanity is restored, Dion humbly bears the guilt of having killed innocents in his rampage. Though Dion does not seek forgiveness, he nonetheless takes as much action as he can to restore the people's trust in him.

It seems Dion once had a loving relationship with his father but it became chilled and unstable following Sylvestre's marriage to Anabella, who began to instill in him her obsession with elitism and blood purity, turning him into an apathetic tyrant. Dion resents Sylvestre treating him like a tool of conquest rather than as a son. Dion's relationship with his stepmother was never a positive one, again echoing the relationship Clive had with her, as Anabella treated Dion as an obstacle between Olivier and the throne. She viewed him with disdain, mocking him as the "son of a โ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅ" after Olivier was going to be named the emperor's heir.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]Dion is a dragoon and such wields a halberd and fights by leaping high into the sky both to avoid his enemies attacks and to descend upon his opponents by riding the halberd down. As the Dominant of Bahamut, Dion possesses the power of light, able to use offensive light magicks and prime his Eikon. As Bahamut, Dion is one of the mightiest forces Valisthea has known, able to conjure devastating beams of light from his wings and throat, and fly as high as into the outer space. Even after losing Bahamut's aether from his body, Dion is able to prime and not lose control of himself.

Dion is never seen in semi-primed state, but it is assumed he would appear with Bahamut's wings, as Clive does with Bahamut's power.

An otherworldly being that Clive encountered in the inner sanctum of Drake's Head. He addressed Clive as "Mythos" before attempting to merge their consciousnesses. However, Clive was able to summon the will to resist the creature, before Joshua returned from the dead to imprison it in a cage of flame that he sealed away in his own heart. -Persons of Interest description

History
Five millennia before the main events of Final Fantasy XVI, Ultima's species evolved somewhere in the world and were ruled by their king, "Ultimalius".Ultima's species eventually discovered magic that allowed them to flourish. Magic existed in eight elemental aspects and the ninth,"typeless" element, and Ultima's kind could use all types of magicks. Their species was almost driven to extinction, the few survivors driven from their homeland by the Blight, a by-product of their use of magic sapping the land of aether, which turned their realm into a lifeless husk. Sixteen survivors of their kin were forced to discard their physical forms to travel to Valisthea in their ark, Origin. One member of the Ultima collective retained his physical form even after traveling to Valisthea, but was eventually forced to shed it later after it decayed too much.

The Ultima collective saw their only option was to revive their species and create a new world in place of Valisthea for them to live in. Ultimalius, who had led the exodus from the collective's homeworld to Valisthea, masterminded the plan to revive their species and recreate the world. Eight of the Ultima collective formed the cores of the Mothercrystals to siphon and store the land's aether, and the collective created humans to sire a Mythos, an ideal vessel to cast the spell "Raise", which would destroy humanity and Valisthea while raising a new world for the revived Ultima species. Humanity started as tribes associated with one aspect of the Ultima collective's magic, such as Motes of Fire tribe or Motes of Earth tribe. To conceal the Mothercrystals' true nature, the member of the Ultima collective who did not turn himself into crystal named them after parts of an ancient dragon. Ultima also fashioned himself a shrine in the sky to observe his plan coming together.

The plan was eventually for these inherent traits in mankind to lead to the awakening of Dominants and Eikons among them. Such a plan would take millennia to unfold, so Ultima joined his sleeping brethren in hibernation on Origin, the "ark" they had used to travel to Valisthea and which now lay hidden under the land. The Dzemekys Mothercrystal had a direct connection to Ultima's slumbering place inside Origin, and initially allowed the people who inhabited the nearby lands to commune with their god.[9] Without Ultima's guidance, the religion that had revered Ultima as a savior god, the Circle of Malius, fractured after failing to get response from their deity. Humanity developed wills of their own, and magic-use became widespread in ways Ultima had not intended or foreseen. Humanity began to use the Mothercrystals as sources of power for their societies, leading to a series of wars that would begin and hasten the spread of the Blight across Valisthea.

Characteristics - Appearance
Ultima without a vessel has the appearance of a gaunt, pale-skinned humanoid, with pronounced blood vessels, white hair, and blackish contours around his eyes which have darkened sclera and lack eyelids, giving him a zombified guise. Ultima has four arms, and the vast majority of his body is encased in a purplish crystalline substance.

When he confronts Clive and Joshua in the Interdimensional Rift, Ultima assumes a "battle form" that combines his features with those of Ifrit: his body is covered in black soot-like substance that crystallizes as armor with red glowing veins and a gaping hole in the torso. His face is covered by a helmet with large horns curved upwards. He has only two arms, but gains a pair of tattered wings that hover behind him while not attached to his back.

Characteristics - Personality
While Ultima initially refers to himself in plural, alluding to both his race and his offshoots in the collective, Ultima later refers to himself in singular after absorbing his clones. His thrall Olivier also referred to himself in the singular during Dion's coup. He also notably refers to himself in the singular once during his confrontation with Clive in the Interdimensional Rift, when revealing his role in humanity's creation. The various shards of Ultima share a single consciousness.

In most instances Ultima is cold and detached, reacting to everything around him with indifference. Ultima looks down on everyone, and is self-assured, rarely if ever feeling threatened, and shows mild annoyance at any opposition thrown at him, mostly because he views it as a futile exercise. Ultima is condescending and absorbed in his selfish interests, caring little to nothing for anything else. His indifference to humanity, who once worshipped him as a god, leads to humanity taking on a will of their own after Ultima ignored their pleas for guidance for long enough.

Characteristics - Abilities
.png]Ultima is the master of illusion, able to trap those under his influence into dreams of his making that to the one experiencing them are indistinguishable from reality. Ultima appears able to delve into others' minds to either make these images, or reflect the images the person already is projecting to themselves.

Ultima directs Clive toward his destiny by appearing to him as a mysterious hooded man, later shown to have Clive's own face. Ultima traps Clive into an illusion of his memory of what happened at Phoenix Gate, where Clive is able to defeat his "Infernal Shadow" and accept that he is Ifrit's Dominant and what transpired there. In this scene Ifrit is depicted as something of his "inner demon", or what could also be seen as his Jungian shadow, an unconscious aspect of personality that the ego resists and projects; by confronting and accepting one's shadow, a person can self-actualize. If Ultima can influence people through their psychological shadows, then those incapable of accepting the uncomfortable aspects of themselves would be more susceptible to his manipulation.

~The -IX- Eikons~

Ifrit / Ifrit Risen
Ifrit is the second Eikon of Fire (also called the Warden of the Inferno), which takes the form of a dog like being with large horns, a wolf-like muzzle, and a mane of white hair running down the back of its neck. Much like the Phoenix, Ifrit possesses fire-based magick, which allows it to throw fireballs and create powerful explosive blasts that double as protection from attacks, as well as fire a blast of concentrated fire from its mouth. It first appeared during the Night of Flames, where the Holy Empire of Sanbreque launched an attack of Phoenix Gate. The first and only Dominant of Ifrit is Clive Rosfield, son of Archduke Elwin Rosfield and older brother of Joshua Rosfield.

Ifrit and the Phoenix can combine into a single entity called Ifrit Risen. In this form, Ifrit gains the Phoenix's wings and the ability to launch volleys of fireballs, as well as teleport in a similar manner to the Phoenix Shift.

Phoenix
Phoenix is the Eikon of Fire, appearing as a giant firebird resembling a hawk or eagle, with orange, green, and yellow feathers and long, peacock-like feathers running from its tail. The Phoenix has control of powerful fire-based magick, able to launch volleys of fireballs and fire a concentrated beam of flame from its mouth to attack its enemies. It has healing powers via its Flames of Rebirth spell. The Dominant of the Phoenix is born into the noble family of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, with the most recent being Joshua Rosfield, son of Archduke Elwin Rosfield and younger brother of Clive Rosfield.

Shiva
Shiva is the Eikon of Ice, appearing as a pale-skinned woman with long, platinum-blonde hair adorned with golden ornaments, pointed ears, a large crown on her head, and a white dress. She conjures and manipulates ice for both defensive and offensive purposes, such as launching massive icicles as spears or forming a wall of ice to shield herself, as well as blocking off lava flows. Shiva's Dominant is born among the people of the Northern Territories, the most recent one being Jill Warrick, the princess of the fallen Northern Territories and the ward of House Rosfield. Her powers awakened after she was captured by the Iron Crusade during their invasion of Rosalith following the Night of Flames.

Garuda
Garuda is the Eikon of Wind, taking the form of a harpy-like creature with two pairs of wings on her upper and lower back, wing-like protrusions on her head, clawed hands and feet, and white and green feathers covering her body. Garuda's power over wind allows her to create powerful storms, such as tornadoes, send blasts of wind at her opponents, and summon her wind-elemental Egis Chirada and Suparna to act as her minions, an ability which is shared with her chosen Dominant. Garuda uses her claws to viciously slash and tear at her enemies' flesh, and her wings allow her to fly at incredible speeds. The most recent Dominant of Garuda is Benedikta Harman, leader of the Royal Intelligencers of Waloed.

Titan / Titan Lost
Titan is the Eikon of Earth, who appears as a massive stone giant, his mouth lacking flesh and leaving his teeth exposed. Titan controls the element of Earth, and is the largest of the Eikons. He is incredibly strong, able to shatter the ground beneath him and create massive fissures with a single stomp and throw large chunks of rock at opponents. He can generate a force field around himself to deflect attacks. Titan's Dominant is Hugo Kupka, the permanent economic advisor to the Dhalmekian Republic, who is blessed with Herculean strength even in his human form.

During his battle with Ifrit, Titan undergoes a drastic transformation after consuming the heart of the Drakeโ€™s Fang Mothercrystal, becoming a mountain-sized creature known as Titan Lost, possessing several stone tentacles ending in spiked points. In this form, Titan's already immense strength is even further amplified, throwing gigantic boulders while using his tentacles to attack and creating sharp crystal formations across his body to either attack or impede his opponent. Titan Lost could also generate electricity, as lightning strikes surrounded it upon emerging and would appear on his body where his attacks would land, although he never uses this in combat. Titan Lost's body is formed around Titan himself, seen when he and Ifrit plummet through the creature's sundered body.

Ramuh
Ramuh is the Eikon of Thunder, and takes the form of an elderly man with a long, white beard, wearing a long flowing purple robe and wielding a staff shaped like a lightning bolt. Ramuh can teleport, seen during his brief encounter with Ifrit where he avoided the dark Eikon's attack, and can conjure powerful blasts of purple electricity called Levinbolts. Ramuhโ€™s Dominant is said to have a deeper understanding of the world, though the specifics of this knowledge are unknown. He can use his staff as a ranged weapon, such as when he threw it like a spear to repel Typhon in the Inner Sanctum of Drake's Head. Ramuh's latest Dominant is Cidolfus Telamon, former Lord Commander of the Waloeder Royal Knights and the leader of the Hideaway.

Odin
Odin is the Eikon of Darkness, taking the appearance of an armored humanoid with a horned helmet who rides the six-legged horse, Sleipnir.[1] Odin possesses control over dark magick, and wields a black blade that can cut through anything and generate deadly energy blasts. This blade can be used by both Odin and his chosen Dominant to deadly effect, having been used by the latter to sever โ€œnigh every sinewโ€ in Clive Rosfield's body, and even part the Naldia Narrow, creating a chasm reaching to the sea floor. Odin's current and only known Dominant is Barnabas Tharmr, king of Waloed.

Bahamut
Bahamut is the Eikon of Light, appearing as a large wyvern with silver scales and massive wings, and a third eye in the center of its head. Its power over light allows it to fire beams of energy from its mouth and hundreds of missile-like energy blasts from its wings. The current Dominant of Bahamut is Dion Lesage, firstborn prince of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, son of Holy Emperor Sylvestre, and leader of the Holy Order of the Knights Dragoon. As the Empire's state religion, the Greagorian church, reveres dragons as holy creatures, Dion is largely seen as a hero and symbol of hope and justice among his people.

Leviathan
Leviathan is the Eikon of Water, appearing as a massive blue serpent with multiple wing-like fins and long tendrils on its body. It possesses control over powerful water magicks, being able to unleash destructive blasts of water and even create tsunamis. Like other Eikons, such as Odin and Garuda, Leviathan can summon Egis, such as Perykos. Leviathan mysteriously vanished around a century ago after the Motes of Water and their Dominant were nearly wiped out by the Holy Empire of Sanbreque and has not been seen since, earning it the nickname "Leviathan the Lost". The Dominant of Leviathan is always born among the people of the Motes of Water tribe, who live in isolation in the Northern Territories region of Mysidia. Leviathan's current dominant is Waljas, a baby from the Motes of Water and the ancestor of Mysidia's tributary, Shula, who has been frozen in time for 80 years.

The two Eikons of Fire united as one, with a might that far exceeds either Eikon alone. With the body of Ifrit and the wings of the Phoenix, its appearance closely resembles that of Ultima, as depicted in the ancient murals of the Circle of Malius, could this be the final, true form of the vessel that Ultima requires to remake the world? -Ifrit Risen: Hidden Truths

History
Ifrit was created by Ultima to serve as the Eikon of his chosen vessel, Mythos. Because of this singular purpose, Ifrit did not manifest until long after the other Eikons had appeared in modern-day Valisthea. The appearance of Ifrit took many by surprise, both because the dark Eikon had never been seen before, and because it was thought to be impossible for two Eikons of the same element to coexist.

During the Night of Flames, when Sanbrequois forces attacked Phoenix Gate, Archduke Elwin Rosfield was murdered right in front of his youngest son, Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix. A horrified Joshua primed into the Phoenix and went out of control. Joshua's elder brother, Clive, attempted to aid him, but was set upon by a splitting headache before a vision of a hooded figure, saying "We have found you"; Clive suddenly primed, transforming into Ifrit. Rodney Murdoch watched on in disbelief, stating that it should be impossible for two Eikons of Fire to coexist, before he was incinerated by the dark Eikon's flames.

Ifrit became hostile and attacked the Phoenix, who dive-bombed the opposing Eikon and caused them both to begin falling through the earth while continuing their clash, until they fell into the apodytery beneath Phoenix Gate. The two Eikons continued to battle deep underground, until Ifrit prepared to cast Hellfire. Realizing that this would destroy everything aboveground as well, Phoenix attempted to stop the attack, but was too late, as a destructive blast of fire engulfed the apodytery. Phoenix withstood Ifrit's Hellfire with his Flames of Rebirth spell, launching a counterattack on Ifrit and returning them both to the surface.

Phoenix and Ifrit briefly continued their battle aboveground until the latter was briefly incapacitated by a volley of fireballs. Ifrit recovered and pinned Phoenix to the ground, pummeling him with a flurry of blows. Clive regained consciousness and witnessed Ifrit attacking his brother, begging the dark Eikon to stop hurting the Phoenix while hearing Joshua call for his brother to help him. The Phoenix attempted to fight back, but Ifrit clamped its jaws around his beak and impaled the Phoenix through the chest with its claws, unleashing a devastating explosion. Horrified and enraged, Clive swore revenge against Ifrit before blacking out. He returned to human form and lost all memory of having been the one who primed Ifrit. The next morning, he was found and enslaved by Sanbreque as a fire-aspected Bearer. He remained under belief that an unknown Dominant of Fire had killed his brother, unaware that Joshua had survived and been rescued by the Undying.

Clive would not prime into Ifrit again until 13 years later, during his battle against Benedikta Harman's Eikon, Garuda, where he unexpectedly went out of control and had to be quelled by his friend, Cidolfus Telamon, the Dominant of Ramuh. Now believing he had killed Joshua, Clive and his ally, Jill Warrick, the Dominant of Shiva, made their way to the ruins of Phoenix Gate to ascertain what truly happened there on the Night of Flames. Clive learned that the hooded man he had witnessed on the day he first primed was indeed just an apparition, and accepted Ifrit as his Eikon. He decided to try and make amends with his newfound powers by joining Cid's Bearer-emancipation movement. Having accepted Ifrit as part of himself, Clive gained control of the Eikon and the use of new Eikonic abilities, but still struggled to prime at will, something that puzzled Cid, who deemed a Dominant's ability to prime a natural instinct.

...

Characteristics
Ifrit appears as a demonic being, its body covered in flames and its skin appearing like lava rock. It has massive, backwards-facing horns. It possesses a wolf-like muzzle with sharp fangs, with a mane of white hair running down the back of its neck. Ifrit has sharp claws on its hands and feet, the latter of which are digitigrade. It possesses a long tail. The protrusions on its arms and legs appear on Clive Rosfield's body when he semi-primes.

When transformed into Ifrit Risen, Ifrit gains the Phoenix's wings but otherwise looks the same. Dark versions of Ifrit Risen are use by Ultima as corporeal bodies for the collective, who shine ethereal blue rather than fiery red.

Ifrit can make flames erupt at will, and eject a burst of fire to propel himself forward. Even though Ifrit lacks the Phoenix's ability to erect impenetrable magicked barriers, he can erupt a wall of flames to act as a barrier to intercept Bahamut's light beam. Ifrit can also generate a sword-like structure out of flame, which he used at the end of the fight with Titan to destroy Drake's Fang, as well as at the end of the Bahamut fight when he destroys the Mothercrystal Drake's Tail previously absorbed by Bahamut.

Abilities:
More aggressive and raw power-focused, unleashing brutal fire attacks. Ifrit tends to embody destructive force in combat.

Ability
Description
Ignition
Attack while charging, inflicting multiple hits and forcing the enemy back.
Can be used in mid-air.
Will o' the Wykes
Summon a storm of fireballs that circle about Clive, damaging nearby targets, while also absorbing damage.
Limit Break
Use L3 + R3 when the Limit Break gauge is filled to semi-prime, improving battle performance for a short period of time.

Lore

The Warden of Fire, whose strength resides within Joshua Rosfield, heir to the Rosarian throne. The Phoenix is always born in the ducal line, and is worshipped by the populaceโ€”not least because its flames of both destruction and regeneration have delivered the duchy from disaster many times over. -Basic Information
The Warden of Fire, last seen on the night of the imperial invasion of Phoenix Gate in the year 860, when the young Joshua Rosfield lost control of his powers. The Phoenix first awakened among the Motes of Fire, an ancient tribe who dwelled in the western reaches of Storm, and the careful preservation of bloodlines among the Rosarian nobility ensured that its Dominant would always be born in the ducal line. -Hidden Truths
The Warden of Fire, whose strength resides within Joshua Rosfield. Eighteen years after the imperial invasion of Phoenix Gate and Joshua's presumed demise, the Phoenix spread its wings once more in the skies above the Crystalline Dominionโ€”wings in which reside the Flames of Rebirth. -Following the Destruction of Twinside

History
Though the Phoenix did not appear in the ancient tapestry of the Circle of Malius cult that extolled the eventual awakening of Eikons as the heavenly servants of the cult's savior god Ultima, Phoenix is one part of Ultima's magic, embodied as a firebird with protective and healing powers. The Phoenix's purpose is to conserve and express this power until the arrival of "Mythos", who was to then take the power unto themselves as part of the Ultima collective's masterplan of harvesting aether with Mothercrystals and then using Mythos's body to cast a spell to remake the world and revive their near-extinct brethren.

The Phoenix awakens in descendants of the "Motes of Fire" tribe, who in modern day inhabit the Grand Duchy of Rosaria. Only members of the ducal family are known to awaken as the Phoenix's Dominant, as they jealously guard their bloodline. The Undying is a shadow organization including many loosely affiliated family members of the ducal line, dedicated to preserving the Phoenix and the duchy; should the main ducal line fall, the next Phoenix would likely awaken among the members known to the Undying.

In modern-day Valisthea, the Phoenix previously awakened in Elwin Rosfield's father. This Phoenix was likely the one who went to war against the Northern Territories tribes and Shiva in 790 when Drake's Eye fell. Infighting among the northern tribes ultimately forced them to retreat. Phoenix later awakened in Elwin's youngest son, Joshua, who thus became the heir to the ducal throne over Elwin's elder son, Clive. As the Phoenix's Dominant, Joshua was gifted with powerful healing magicks, and when he was 10, he bestowed a portion of the Eikon's power on his older brother, the 15-year-old Clive, to act as his First Shield. Clive thus became able to conjure fire without a crystal shard, as well as able to learn some of Phoenix's offensive abilities.

On the Night of Flames in the year 860, soldiers from the Holy Empire of Sanbreque were sent to Phoenix Gate to kill the Rosarian forces there and likely abduct Joshua. After witnessing Elwin's beheading, a horrified Joshua lost control of his powers and primed into the Phoenix. Shortly afterwards, Clive suddenly primed into Ifrit, a second Eikon of Fire, who immediately became hostile and attacked the Phoenix. The two Eikons battled as they fell through the ground into the apodytery beneath Phoenix Gate, until Ifrit began preparing its Hellfire spell. Despite Phoenix's efforts to prevent it, Ifrit unleashed a devastating explosion that the Phoenix was caught in. Thanks to his Flames of Rebirth spell, Phoenix survived and overpowered Ifrit before returning them both to the surface.

Their battle continued as the Phoenix launched volleys of fire missiles at Ifrit, briefly incapacitating the dark Eikon. Ifrit recovered and pinned Phoenix to the ground as it pummeled him with vicious blows. Phoenix attempted to fight back while calling for Clive to help him, but Ifrit impaled him with its claws before unleashing an explosion that engulfed Phoenix Gate, seemingly killing the Phoenix, and, by extension, Joshua. However, unknown to all, Joshua had survived and was rescued by the members of the Undying, a shadow group that served the Phoenix's Dominant/Archduke of Rosaria. Clive was enslaved as an imperial assassin, continuing to use Phoenix's Blessing to cast fire magicks.

...

Characteristics
Phoenix appears as a large bird, resembling either a hawk or an eagle, covered in orange, green, and blue feathers, with plumage on his tail resembling that of a peacock's. His feathers glow with fiery light, and a blue light emanates from his chest.

Like the Phoenix in the Final Fantasy series as a whole, the design of Valisthea's Phoenix takes inspiration from the Chinese phoenix, Fenghuang, alongside the Greek mythological phoenix. Fenghuang is often described as a composite of many birds including the head of a golden pheasant, the body of a mandarin duck, the tail of a peacock, the legs of a crane, the mouth of a parrot, and the wings of a swallow, its body containing the five fundamental colors: black, white, red, yellow, and green.

The Phoenix has a more heavenly presence in juxtaposition to Ifrit's netherworldly aesthetic. The Phoenix expresses the fire's regenerative and protective qualities, whereas Ifrit expresses violent explosions and destruction. The Phoenix can shoot fireballs from its mouth, erect magicked barriers that nothing can pierce, and it has the power to heal bodily injuries. In Rosarian folklore, the Phoenix is known as a protector who fights for the nation, and "souls touched by the Phoenix" are said to "never die" in the sense that the Rosarian lineage will forever continue.

Abilities:
Fire-based abilities with a healing aspect.
Generates flames that provide both damage and restorative capabilities.

Ability
Description
Phoenix Shift
Use the Blessing of the Phoenix to close the gap between a target.
Both melee attacks and magicked shots can be dealt while shifting.
Scarlet Cyclone
Spin quickly, creating a ring of fire that burns all enemies in range.
Heatwave
Summon a projectile-dispelling wall of liquid flame before launching several deadly shockwaves. Wave force is amplified upon dispelling magic.
Rising Flames
Summon a fiery wing that deals damage and can launch lighter enemies into the air.
Flames of Rebirth
Summon a massive pillar of fire that burns all enemies caught within the flames, while also partially restoring Clive's HP.

The Warden of Ice, of whom Jill Warrick is the current Dominant. Long before the fall of the Fallen, there existed a tribe in northwestern Storm known as the Motes of Ice, among whom the Dominant of Shiva would be born. Tales of the ice queens of the old north are passed down among the men and women of the northlands to this day. -Hidden Truths

History
Shiva awakens in the descendants of the "Motes of Ice" people, who inhabited the region of Valisthea now known as the Northern Territories. Shiva is one of the Eikons who holds a part of creator god Ultima's power to one day be absorbed by Mythos in Ultima's bid to build a body strong enough to cast Raise, a spell to create a new world. Only those who practice the Circle of Malius faith knew of this, however, a faith system that has since disappeared from the Twins; the people of modern day Valisthea simply revered Eikons as powerful protectors of their land.

Between the years of the realm 170โ€“250, small countries around Drake's Eye were in disarray, and Shiva's Dominant was born in this region.

Shiva once fought the Phoenix of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria in a war over resources as the Blight was consuming the Northern Territories. Rosaria eventually won the wars and came to host Silvermane's daughter, Jill Warrick, as their ward.

Following the Night of Flames, Rosaria was invaded by the Iron Kingdom in an event known as the Iron Crusade, during which many Rosarian Bearers and women were taken captive, including a young Jill Warrick, who awakened as Shiva's Dominant sometime after. Rather than kill her, the Ironbloods decided she would serve them as a weapon of war to give them an advantage in future raids.

In the Year of the Realm 873, Shiva appeared at the Battle of Nysa and battled Titan, who fought for the Dhalmekian Republic. A team of Sanbrequois Branded soldiers called the Bastards (comprised of Tiamat, Aevis, Biast, and Clive Rosfield (going by Wyvern)) had been sent to assassinate Shiva's Dominant. Shiva and Titan's fight wreaked destruction across the Nysa Defile and indirectly caused the death of Biast, who was crushed by a boulder. Some time afterwards, Shiva was seemingly defeated and the Ironbloods were made to retreat. As the Sanbrequois assassins caught her, Clive recognized Jill as his childhood friend and fought Tiamat to rescue her, and Cidolfus Telamon, Dominant of Ramuh, arrived to assist, and they all retreated to his hideaway in the deadlands. Jill spent a while recovering but eventually became one of Clive's most avid supporters.

On their way to Drake's Breath, Jill semi-primed to protect them from lava flows, and fully primed to fight Liquid Flame, who was summoned from the lava by the Mothercrystal's heart. Priming Shiva advances her crystals' curse and she stayed at the hideaway for a while afterwards, eventually joining Clive and the Cursebreakers after the awakened Ultima enacted Primogenesis to turn the people and beasts of Valisthea into mindless roving Akashic. Shiva fought Barnabas Tharmr and his Odin in Old Kanver to rescue Clive, and was taken captive on the Einherjar.

Clive and the Cursebreakers followed on their newly constricted Enterprise and rescued her, but during Clive and Joshua's battle against Odin, the Warden of Darkness's Zantetsuken created a chasm onto the sea itself and Jill and Clive fell to the sea floor. To escape, Jill semi-primed to freeze a tunnel through the waves.

After making their way to the Shadow Coast of Ash, Jill agreed to pass Shiva onto Clive, the Mythos whose body Ultima wants to claim, so he could become strong enough to finally best Barnabas, and because Clive wanted to spare her from the ever-advancing crystals' curse. After giving Shiva's power to Clive Jill was not seen priming or semi-priming again, but did still use ice magicks when fighting the hordes of Akashic in Stonhyrr.

When Clive made his way to Ultima's abode in Origin, Ultima's final form, Ultimalius, used some ice powers to battle Clive in the vein of Shiva's power. After Clive killed Ultima and destroyed the nexus, the wellspring of magic, it was implied Eikons would no longer awaken in people, and the Eikons would eventually fall into legend.

...

Characteristics
Shiva appears as a woman with pale white skin, pointed ears, and long, platinum-blonde hair. Her hair is adorned with gold ornaments, and she wears a three-point crown. She wears a white dress with dark-blue ornaments, and a massive, flowing mantle. Her concept art depicts her dual-wielding a pair of large ice blades or spears, but she does not use these in the game. Shiva is the smallest Eikon of the nine witnessed in Final Fantasy XVI, only slightly larger than an average human.

When semi-primed, Shiva's mantle appears on Jill Warrick's body.
Shiva's power is to create ice out of thin air, and freeze anything in sight.
She can even freeze lava or a part of a sea.

Garuda awakened in the 15-year-old Benedikta Harman after she was nearly killed by her master after being wrongly accused of stealing. Benedikta would come to use her power over Garuda to serve Barnabas Tharmr, the king of Waloed, as a member of his Royal Intelligencers.

Benedikta called upon Garuda's power to summon one of her Egis, Chirada, to battle Clive Rosfield in the woods outside of Lostwing. Following Chirada's defeat and Cidolfus Telamon's arrival, Benedikta created a small tornado to obscure her and the Intelligencers' retreat.

Some time later, Benedikta and Cid semi-primed their respective Eikons and briefly did battle in the chapel of Caer Norvent. Benedikta summoned both Chirada and Suparna, overwhelming Cid before leaving her Egis to deal with Clive. Clive pursued and confronted Benedikta and battled her, demanding to know where she was keeping the "second Dominant of Fire" he believed was responsible for killing his brother.

Partway through their fight, Benedikta flew into a rage and semi-primed again. Clive defeated her, unknowingly absorbing Garuda's aether from her and disrupting her ability to use Garuda's power. Benedikta was left in hysterics after realizing she could not feel Garuda within herself, and had to be forcibly taken from the stronghold by her companion, Gerulf, as the second Dominant of Fire broke free and laid waste to the fort.

Later that day, Benedikta was left at the mercy of a group of footpads after they killed the rest of her team, including Gerulf. As she was about to be set upon by the bandits, she flashed back to the time Cid rescued her from forced servitude, before suffering a psychotic break and unleashing the remnants of her power, priming into Garuda and rampaging out of control. Garuda created a massive storm and summoned hordes of Wind Elemental Egis to roam the Sanbreque countryside.

Clive entered the storm to confront the second Dominant of Fire, before being forced to battle Garuda. Clive gained the upper hand, slicing off one of Garuda's wing's talons before stabbing her in the eye, causing her to fall to her apparent death. However, Garuda quickly reappeared and grabbed Clive, regenerating her lost talons and eye with aether before she attempted to crush Clive in her grip. Clive unleashed a powerful blast of fire before priming into Ifrit and clashing with Garuda. The two Eikons fought viciously, but Ifrit claimed victory when he subdued Garuda and unleashed his Hellfire spell, creating a devastating explosion that destroyed the surrounding area and killed Garuda and, by extension, Benedikta.

After Clive defeated and absorbed Ultima and destroyed the nexus in Origin, the source of all magic, Garuda, along with the other Eikons, would no longer awaken, eventually fading into myth as the years went by. Tales of the Eikons and magic would be spoken of in the book Final Fantasy, written by "Joshua Rosfield".

The Warden of Earth, who takes on the aspect of a fearsome, stony giant. He is known to awaken among the descendants of the ancient Motes of Earth, a tribe who once dwelled in the deserts of what is now the Dhalmekian Republic. By far the largest and most physically imposing of all the Eikons, Titan's strength was the bedrock upon which the republic was built. -Hidden Truths

History
Titan is one of the Eikons the Ultima collective orchestrated to one day even in the land of Valisthea by creating the Motes of Earth tribe to live in the desert of modern day Dhalmekian Republic. Over the generations their bloodlines would grow stronger, until a person would awaken as the Dominant of Titan.

The latest person to awaken as the Dominant of Titan was Hugo Kupka, who used Titan's might for personal gain and attained the permanent role of economic advisor in the Dhalmekian parliament due to his influence. Hugo believed that the powers of a Dominant made him a god in his own right and had a castle built in his honor inside the Mothercrystal of Drake's Fang itself. Though the Dhalmekian parliament may resent him, they have no choice but to call to Titan's aid in the defense of the republic.

Hugo was called to the Battle of Nysa when the forces of the Iron Kingdom were making incursions into Dhalmekian territory and brought a Dominant of their own. Though the parliament tried to appeal to the nation's allies from Waloed for a joint defense, the appeal was rejected and Titan defended the republic unaided, repelling the Ironblood's Shiva but not finishing her off.

Kupka's point of weakness was his obsessive love for Benedikta Harman, the Dominant of Garuda, believing the two of them as "gods" ought to be worshiped for their power and to be seen as rightful rulers. When Benedikta's severed head was delivered to him with news that the Dominant of Ramuh, the treacherous Cidolfus Telamon, was responsible, Hugo vowed to exact vengeance, and sent out his personal forces to look for him. After finding Cid's hideaway in the deadlands, Hugo primed to Titan and destroyed it utterly, killing many of Cid's accomplices, but unknown to Kupka, Cid himself had already perished in his mission to destroy Drake's Head. Hugo was able to prime even in the aether-starved deadlands due to using his innate aether.

Catching on that the current "Cid the Outlaw" was a protรฉgรฉ of the original Cid, Clive Rosfield, Hugo lured him to Rosalith Castle where he semi-primed to take the Dominant of Ifrit on, but lost and his hands were chopped off. Unknown to him, Clive was the Ultima collective's champion as Mythos, able to absorb other Dominants' powers, and after besting Kupka, absorbed Titan's aether and Kupka lost his ability to use magicks. After being rescued, Kupka returned to his castle but Clive was after him as well as the Dhalmeks' Mothercrystal: Drake's Fang. When Clive infiltrated Kupka's castle, Kupka primed Titan for a final time, but had a shaky grasp on controlling it. Ifrit overpowered the Eikon, but Titan drew in aether directly from the heart of the Mothercrystal, creating an enormous golem around himself called "Titan Lost". After Ifrit destroyed Titan Lost, Titan still refused to yield and continued to battle Ifrit in free fall through Titan Lost's crumbling form. Ifrit used nearby aether to grow gigantic hands and pummeled the massive Eikon to death. Hugo's petrified remains were left on the site of the battle.

Clive continued to wield Titan's powers, but could not prime the giant, only use some semi-prime forms. When Clive's journey led him to confront the reunited Ultima collective, Ultimalius used some of Titan's abilities in as further indication that the Eikons are the powers of Ultima. After besting the Ultima collective and absorbing them, Clive destroyed the source of all magic in the realm, implying that no one after Kupka can awaken as Titan, and Eikons will fall into legend.

Lore

The Warden of Thunder, whose power most lately awakened within Cidolfus Telamon. The Eikon is known the realm over as a symbol of judgment, no doubt inspired by its sage mien and the scepter with which it summons its levinbolts. Folklore has it that not only are Dominants of Ramuh blessed with the command of lightning, they are also granted a deeper understanding of the true nature of the world. -Basic Information
The Warden of Thunder, whose power most lately awakened within Cidolfus Telamon. Dominants of the Eikon most often emerge among descendants of the Motes of Thunder, a tribe who once dwelled in the lands of central Ashโ€”lands that the Kingdom of Waloed now lays claim to. Mayhap in part due to the tribe's comparatively advanced learning, Ramuh is associated with wisdom and judgment to this day. -Hidden Truths

History
Ramuh awakens in the descendants of the "Motes of Lightning" tribe, who inhabited the continent of Ash. Like the other Eikons, Ramuh was created by Ultima for the purpose of acting as a vessel for power to be absorbed by Mythos, the being chosen by Ultima to cast his Raise spell and reshape the world for his species. This information was only known to members of the Circle of Malius cult.

At some point in time, Ramuh awakened in Cidolfus Telamon, who would go on to serve under Barnabas Tharmr, the king of Waloed and Dominant of Odin, as his Lord Commander, alongside Benedikta Harman, the Dominant of Garuda, who led the Royal Intelligencers. Cid left Barnabas's service, possibly after learning of the latter's allegiance with Ultima, and would use Ramuh's power to begin a campaign to destroy the realm's Mothercrystals and end the persecution and enslavement of Bearers.

In the year 873, while traveling to Lostwing with Clive Rosfield, Cid briefly semi-primed to finish off Fafnir of the North with a powerful blast of Levinbolts, revealing himself as a Dominant to Clive. This took its toll on Cid's health, as he began coughing up blood.

Some time later, when Cid and Clive snuck into Caer Norvent, Cid confronted Benedikta in the stronghold's chapel, where the two semi-primed and briefly did battle. Cid was outmatched, being overpowered and incapacitated by Benedikta and her Egis, Chirada and Suparna.

Later on, Cid fully primed into Ramuh to subdue Clive, who had suddenly primed Ifrit and viciously battled Garuda, resulting in the latter's death. Ramuh unleashed a barrage of Levinbolts on Ifrit, which rendered the dark Eikon unconscious and caused him to return to human form.

At Drake's Head. Clive and Cid combined their efforts to destroy the Mothercrystal's heart. Typhon emerged, and Cid fought the abomination as Ramuh, but expended all his energy and ended up passing Ramuh to Clive before perishing.

Clive took on Cid's cause and name, passing believably as "Cid the Outlaw" by showing off Ramuh's semi-prime powers, though Clive was unable to fully prime Ramuh, only able to do so with Ifrit.

In the final battle, Ultimalius used some abilities associated with Ramuh against Clive, who responded in turn. When Clive destroyed the wellspring of magic on Origin, he erased magic, Eikons, Dominants, Bearers, the crystals' curse, and hopefully the Blight, from the world. Eikons fall into legend, but their story would be carried on into the future in a tale Final Fantasy authored by "Joshua Rosfield".

...

Characteristics
Ramuh takes the appearance of an old man with a long, white beard, clad in a dark-purple robe. He wields a large black staff that resembles a lightning bolt, with a purple crystal at the top.

Ramuh's Dominant gains deeper understanding into how the world works, but the specifics of this knowledge are unknown. It could be related to Ultima or the Mothercrystals, considering Cid's ultimate goal with the crystals and how he said "I know who you are" to the being that emerged from the crystal's heart.

Abilities:
Focuses on causing damage through lightning-based attacks. Often involves sequencing strikes and area-of-effect abilities.

Ability
Description
Thunderstorm
Call forth a powerful thunderstorm that rains multiple bolts of lightning down a target.
Pile Drive
Drive Ramuh's staff into the ground, electrifying all enemies within a radius of the strike.

Judgment Bolt
Summon from the heavens a mighty levinbolt that deals massive damage to a single target.
Blind Justice
Launch a barrage of ball lightning at one or more enemies.

The Warden of Darkness, who rides into battle atop his spectral steed, and whose black blade is said to be sharp enough to split the very seas in twain. His latest Dominant: King Barnabas of Waloed. -Basic Information
The Warden of Darkness, who rides into battle atop his six-legged steed, black blade in hand. His latest Dominant, King Barnabas of Waloedโ€”a man scholars believe to be a descendant of the ancient Motes of Darkness within whose line all Dominants of Odin are born. However, they have as yet been unable to prove this point, on account of no records of any Odins before Barnabas Tharmr having come to light. -Hidden Truths

History
Odin is one of the Eikons awakened as a result of Ultima planting a "seed" of his kin's power among the newly created humans on Valisthea; Odin was to eventually awaken among the descendants of the "Motes of Darkness" people, who likely inhabited the south-east of Valisthea in Dzemekys. The Dzemekys Mothercrystal was destroyed in a conflict between Ultima and the Fallen civilization, leaving but a gargantuan circular hole in the landscape that in current day Valisthea is a seemingly bottomless waterfall. The Dzemekys people, presumed to be the descendants of the Motes of Darkness tribe, migrated from Valisthea to the lands beyond, and Odin was unknown upon the Twins until one day some of their descendants made their way back: notably, Barnabas Tharmr. The first ever known Dominant of Odin, Barnabas conquered the continent of Ash and became the "last king" of Waloed, as though he had been in power for 35 years by the year of the realm 878, he still appeared as a man in his thirties.

Barnabas summoned Odin against the forces of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque at the Battle of Belenus Tor in his bid to encroach upon the continent of Storm. Sanbreque deployed Bahamut, and their brief clash appeared to have ended in a stalemate.

Barnabas semi-primed Odin when facing Clive Rosfield in Old Kanver, and bested him with Odin's katana, using it to sever โ€œnigh every sinewโ€ in Cliveโ€™s body. Jill Warrick primed Shiva to protect Clive, and though the outcome of the Ice versus Darkness clash was not witnessed, Barnabas took Jill captive afterward, so she is presumed to have lost.

When Clive and the Cursebreakers set sail on the Enterprise to pursue Barnabas and rescue Jill, Barnabas summoned Odin on the Naldia Narrow seas. Odin battled the Phoenix, who resisted Zantetsuken with an impenetrable magicked barrier. When Clive and the now-freed Jill rushed to Joshua's aid, Clive fought Odin as Ifrit, severed Odin's sword, and used the severed blade to defeat Odin's steed.

Odin's Zantetsuken sliced a gash into the sea itself, where Clive and Jill fell into. Barnabas followed them to the sea floor and fought Clive again in semi-primed form, but Clive persevered despite losing. Clive and Jill escaped by freezing a tunnel through the waves with Shiva's powers.

Clive followed Barnabas to Ash and met Odin in Eistla. Odin did not challenge Clive there, but created a dark-aspected magic barrier that prevented passage to the north of the continent, inviting Clive to meet him in at the top of his abode in Reverie.

Clive followed suit and found Odin at Reverie, where he at first rode his steed through the skies before battling Clive atop the spire. After being defeated, Barnabas willingly passed the power of darkness onto Clive as per Ultima's plan to prepare Clive as the perform host body for all of the Eikons' powers: "Mythos". When Barnabas was defeated, Odin ceased to exist as did the Egi, Sleipnir Harbard.

Characteristics
Odin is a large humanoid clad in dark armor, with large horns or antlers on his helmet, and his eyes glow blue through the visor. He wears a large dark cape, with a golden glow on the edges. His black six-legged horse, likewise, has glowing blue eyes and golden hued cracks along his coat. Odin towers over others when sat upon his large flying spectral steed; though the steed is an Egi while Odin is the Eikon, his horse appears in the ancient mural of the Circle of Malius that depicts all Eikons, whereas Garuda's Egis do not. The horse is another form of Sleipnir Harbard ,Barnabas's most loyal supporter.

When Barnabas semi-primes, he becomes encased in a dark suit of armor similar to Odin's, but with a different helmet. Barnabas can manifest Odin's blade of darkness in his hand at will.

Odin's sword can is said to be able to sever the bonds of anything, and during their clash over Naldia Narrow, Odin uses Zantetsuken to erase a portion of the ocean itself. He can erect an impassable magic barrier to hinder Clive's progress called Glazheim Wall.

Lore

The Warden of Light, whose power dwells within Dion Lesage, prince of Sanbreque. In the Holy Empire, the Greagorian faithful hold dragons to be sacred creatures, and Bahamut the most sacred of them all. Because of this, as well as the protection it grants them, the Eikon is loved and revered by the imperial populace. -Basic Information
The Warden of Light, whose power dwells within Dion Lesage, prince of Sanbreque. A tribe known as the Motes of Light once dwelled in the northeast reaches of Storm where the great city of Oriflamme now stands, among which the Dominant of Bahamut would always emerge. In modern times, Dominants are often born among the Sanbrequois nobilityโ€”most likely because the tribe's bloodline still runs strong in their ranks. -Hidden Truths

History
Bahamut awakens in descendants of the "Motes of Light" tribe, who inhabited the region of Valisthea that is now modern-day Sanbreque. Ultima created Bahamut, along with the other Eikons, to serve as vessels of power to one day be absorbed by Mythos, Ultima's chosen vessel, to cast the mad creator god's Raise spell to reshape the world for his revived species. Only members of the Circle of Malius cult knew this, however, while the rest of Valisthea believed the Eikons to be powerful, protective deities. Bahamut commonly awakens among the Sanbrequois nobility, where the Motes of Light bloodline is still strong.

Dion Lesage awoke as Bahamutโ€™s Dominant, which helped his father, Sylvestre Lesage, be elected as the Holy Emperor of Sanbreque, due to the nation's deification of dragons. Dion once called upon Bahamut's power to fight Cidolfus Telamon, the Dominant of Ramuh, when the latter attempted to reach the heart of Sanbreque's Mothercrystal, Drake's Head. Dion established the Holy Knights Dragoon order and built a loyal following, and he and Bahamut together became the beacon of hope for the empire and many songs were written about his exploits.

In the Year of the Realm 873, Dion joined Sanbrequois forces at the Battle of Belenus Tor, priming into Bahamut and fighting Odin, the Eikon of Barnabas Tharmr, the king of Waloed. Their battle was brief, and ended in a stalemate.

Five years later, Dion led the Holy Order of the Knights Dragoon in an insurrection in Twinside against his father, in an attempt to overthrow his tyrannical stepmother, Anabella Lesage, and their son, Olivier, whom Dion had deduced was little more than a puppet of Ultima. Dion accidentally killed his father when the latter took a fatal blow from his spear intended for his half-brother. Dion was overcome by grief and rage, losing control of his powers, and primed into Bahamut, attacking Twinside indiscriminately and destroying most of the city. The heart of Drake's Tail, Twinside's Mothercrystal, fought back by delving into Dion's innermost feelings, transforming the Mothercrystal into a form resembling the wyvern tail flower, which held great importance to both the Sanbrequois royal family and Dion himself.

Joshua Rosfield arrived shortly after Bahamut began his rampage, priming into the Phoenix in an attempt to stop him. Joshua's older brother, Clive, soon joined the fight by priming into Ifrit, and the three Eikons battled on top of Drake's Tail. Bahamut drew massive amounts of aether from the Mothercrystal's heart, greatly increasing his strength. Ifrit and the Phoenix merged, transforming into Ifrit Risen, which allowed Ifrit to fly with the Phoenix's wings and launch volleys of fireballs. Bahamut and Ifrit Risen flew into the planet's upper atmosphere. Bahamut attempted to destroy his opponent by unleashing Zettaflare, but was defeated before Ifrit destroyed Drake's Tail's heart, and the Mothercrystal along with it. Afterwards, Clive absorbed Bahamut's aether from Dion, taking the Eikon's power for himself.

Some time later, Dion called upon Bahamut's power one more time to carry Clive and Joshua to Origin to confront Ultima. Though Clive warned Dion that he had personally witnessed Dominants whose Eikons he had absorbed as Mythos to lose control when they primed after, Dion vowed to keep focus. After reaching Origin, Bahamut unleashed a storm of light beams to breach the vesselโ€™s walls, eliminating various Origin-tied creatures that attacked him in the process, with their meeting Ultima shortly afterward. Clive and Joshua primed into their respective Eikons, and the three battled the mad deity, who transformed into Ultima Prime, a form resembling a darker, winged version of Ifrit. Bahamut, Ifrit, and the Phoenix battled fiercely, combining their powers to cast Tri-Disaster, but Ultima overpowered Ifrit and took him out of the fight. As Ultima prepared to unleash a massive, dark fireball, the Phoenix readied himself to block the attack, but Bahamut stepped in, telling Joshua to go help his brother.

Bahamut unleashed a powerful Flare blast to deflect the fireball, but Ultima's attack proved stronger. Realizing that he was outmatched, Bahamut chose to sacrifice himself, taking the blow from Ultima's fireball while launching a barrage of light beams at him, taking the mad deity by surprise and briefly incapacitating him. Bahamut reverted into Dion, who fell from the sky to his presumed death.

After Clive defeated Ultima and destroyed the nexus within Origin, the source of all magic, Bahamut and the other Eikons ceased to awaken, and magic, crystals, and Bearers were erased from the world. As time passed, Eikons and magic faded into myth, being spoken of in the story of Final Fantasy by "Joshua Rosfield". In the post-credits scene, two children play with a puppy, who is named Bahamut.

Characteristics
Bahamut is a large wyvern with steel-green scales with some gold highlights across his body, bright blue eyes and a third eye in the center of its head, with a massive bat-like wingspan. There are four spear- or cannon-like protrusions on each of his wings, with a long, whip-like tail. He has two long, narrow horns on his head, with smaller spines running down the length of his neck. There are also two large spikes near the back of the neck.

After absorbing the aether from the Drakeโ€™s Tail Mothercrystal's heart, Bahamut's scales turn gold, and his chest begins to emanate a golden aura that engulfs his lower wings. His spear protrusions glow blue as well.

~Warden of Water~

Lore

Despite the prominence of the Dominants and their Eikons in modern politics and warfare, recent history makes no mention of an Eikon of Water. So long has it been, in fact, since Leviathan last appeared in Valisthea that he is now almost exclusively referred to as "the Lost." As to where exactly he went, though, no one is quite certain. -Leviathan the Lost: Legend
So long has it been since the Eikon of Water last appeared in Valisthea that many have forgotten Leviathan even existed, despite much evidence to the contrary. Old writings clearly speak of Dominants past summoning great whale-like creatures capable of swallowing entire cities with their gaping maws. Visual records such as the famed Circle of Malius tapestry also exist, depicting the Eikon as a giant serpent alongside its elemental brethren. -Leviathan the Lost: Basic Information
Eighty years ago, a baby was born to the Motes of Waterโ€”a Dominant, the first to awaken after decades of silence. Yet rather than embrace this miracle, they instead chose to use him for their own gain, subjecting him to a torturous rite that stirred the serpent slumbering inside him. Fearing the destruction of their village at the hands of an enraged Eikon, the Motes cast a spell on the child, imprisoning him within time itself, where he remains trapped to this day, his anger stayed but not soothed. -Leviathan the Lost: Basic Information

History
Leviathan is an Eikon that awakened as a result of Ultima planting a "seed" of his kin's power in the newly-created humans of Valisthea, with Leviathan awakening in the "Motes of Water" people who originally dwelled in southern Ash. Like the other Eikons, Leviathan was created by Ultima to act as a vessel of power to eventually be absorbed by Mythos, Ultima's chosen vessel, in order to cast his "Raise" spell and reshape the world for his species.

The Motes of Water fled from Ash when the Drake's Horn Mothercrystal fell in the Year of the Realm 350 and the Blight began to spread across their land. They migrated to Storm and adopted a nomadic lifestyle, eventually making their way to Sanbreque in the northeast, around the Year of the Realm 708. When they refused to give up their beliefs, the Greagorian Church branded them as heretics and hunted them to extinction, according to the Church's records.

A few Motes of Water survived the extermination attempt, fled, and eventually made a home in Mysidia, a region located in the fallen Northern Territories. They would hide their new home with a massive illusionary dome called the Glamour, which made the location of their village, Haven, appear as though it was simply another area of land consumed by the Blight and devoid of all life.

Nearly a century after their arrival, the people of Haven would come across a woman named Ysay, the Dominant of Shiva at the time. Ysay had been exiled and left to die from the Crystals' curse by the northern thegns whom she had served after failing to prevent the destruction of the Northern Territories' Mothercrystal, Drake's Eye. The Motes of Water took Ysay in, referring to her as "the Witch of the North", and cared for her in her dying days. In return, she taught them how to use her Chronomancy spell, which she had created in her attempt to preserve Drake's Eye by freezing it in time. With this spell, the Motes of Water hatched a devious plan: they would create their own Mothercrystal, having learned how to do so after discovering the Sagespire, and use Leviathan's Dominant as an artificial heart by freezing them in time, so that the Mothercrystal would never decay.

When the infant Waljas was born in the Year of the Realm 798 and identified as the Dominant of Leviathan, the plan was put into motion, forcing Waljas to prime. The plan backfired, as an enraged Leviathan retaliated against the Motes' betrayal and unleashed a powerful tidal wave that would obliterate Mysidia. Before the wave could come down on them, the Motes of Water used the Chronomancy spell to stop it. Waljas was frozen in time, along with the massive wave Leviathan had created, which would eventually come to be known as the Surge. Ultima deemed that Leviathan had been profaned by humanity and chose to rebuke the Eikon, not intending to guide his Mythos to it when they eventually awakened.

Eighty years later, Shula, Waljas's great-niece and tributary of the Motes of Water, sent an anonymous letter to Clive Rosfield, asking that he help her free Waljas from his imprisonment. The two met in the plains outside of Northreach, where she took Clive and his party on her skiff and on to Mysidia. They traveled to the Surge, where Clive used his powers as Mythos to absorb Leviathan's aether from the child. A frightened and angry Waljas summoned an Egi called Perykos to attack him and his allies, prompting Clive to use his newfound control over Leviathan's magick to dispatch the creature.

Clive, Shula, and Jill Warrick later headed to the Aire of Hours to disable the Vare, a magical device used to stop the flow of time, with Shula weakening its output to free Waljas but leave the Surge untouched. Ultima contacted Clive telepathically, calling Leviathan his "most profaned fragment", and told Clive to atone for humanity's sins from 80 years ago. Ultima goaded Waljas into priming, sending the serpent into the frenzy it had been prevented from starting nearly a decade prior as it created a massive waterspout.

Limited Resources:
Players may have fewer items, lower health regeneration, or restricted save points, heightening the sense of challenge.

New Challenges:
There might be additional challenges or quests that werenโ€™t available in the standard playthrough.

Unique Rewards:
Completing quests or challenges in Final Fantasy Mode might yield exclusive items, gear or achievements.

Features and Differences:
โž– Cannot change Difficulty
โž– QTE (Quick Time Events) have no prompts
โž– Checkpoints only Restore 2 Potions
โž• Level Capped at 100
โž• More Gear Improvements
โž• More Powerful Enemies
โ˜‘๏ธ Final Chronolith Trials
โ˜‘๏ธ Ultima Weapon can be Crafted
โ˜‘๏ธ Ultimaniac Mode in Arcade Mode

Features and Differences (Detailed):
โž– Cannot change Difficulty
Once you begin a playthrough of Final Fantasy Mode , you cannot change to Story Focused and Action Focused modes anymore. However, you'll still have access to Timely Accessories throughout the story.

โž– QTE (Quick Time Events) have no prompts
Quick Time Events usually have a button prompt and a timer to indicate when a Cinematic Strike , Evasion , or Clash could happen. However, Final Fantasy Mode does away with the prompts and requires you to watch the color of the effect on the screen. Make sure to press the right command to successfully pull them off!

โž– Checkpoints only Restore 2 Potions
Unlike the other difficulties which fully replenish your potions and high poitions upon dying, Final Fantasy Mode only restores 2 potions. Make sure to remember that you won't have a full stock of potions once you restart a checkpoint.

โž• Level Capped at 100
The maximum level has been increased from 50 to 100 to account for the stronger enemies in Final Fantasy Mode .

โž• More Gear Improvements
All weapons , armor and accessories can be reinforced even further to have higher stats or boosted effects. Do note that some accessories require 2 of the same item, meaning you'll need to obtain one on your first playthrough and the other on Final Fantasy Mode to improve it. If you don't get the base item on your first run, the upgrades will become missable.

โž• More Powerful Enemies
Enemies are far more dangerous in Final Fantasy Mode as they have different formations and locations. They also start at a much higher level than usual.

โ˜‘๏ธ Final Chronolith Trials
An even tougher version of Chronolith Trials called the Final Chronolith Trials is available in Final Fantasy Mode alone and can be accessed from the Arete Stone .

โ˜‘๏ธ Ultima Weapon can be Crafted
Players can only get the Ultima Weapon in Final Fantasy Mode .To craft it, you'll need the Utterance of Creation given at the start, as well as the Everdark Reforged and Gotterdammerung Reforged which you can craft later. This is the strongest possible weapon to equip in the game, so make sure to craft it!

โ˜‘๏ธ Ultimaniac Mode in Arcade Mode
In Arcade Mode , Ultimaniac Mode is an additional setting that has the highest difficulty of challenges in comparison to the Final Fantasy Mode . It also has its own leaderboardto prove who is the best of the best in the game.

~You do want to farm~

Farming typically refers to gathering resources, materials, and crafting items to enhance your character's abilities or gear. Although the game focuses heavily on its narrative and character development, here are some tips to help you with farming:

Identify Key Resources:
Crafting Materials: These can be found throughout the world. Upgrade Materials: Needed for enhancing weapons and abilities. Gil: Useful for purchasing items and equipment.
Explore Areas Thoroughly:
Take the time to explore each area you visit. Look for chests, interact with NPCs, and gather items from the environment. Some regions may respawn items over time, so revisit them periodically.
Defeat Enemies for Drops:
Different enemies drop specific materials. Focus on defeating enemies that are known to drop the materials you need. Keep an eye out for tougher foes, as they often yield better rewards.
Utilize Side Quests:
Engage in side quests as they often reward you with valuable resources and experience points. Some side quests might lead you to material-rich areas or unlock new crafting options.
Participate in Hunting Hunts:
Embrace the hunting challenges where you seek out notorious monsters. Defeating these can yield rare materials.
Enhance Your Skills:
As you progress, unlock and upgrade abilities that help in farming, such as those that improve your damage output or enhance your gathering capabilities.
Crafting and Upgrading:
Use the materials you gather to craft and upgrade weapons and gear. This will help you become more powerful, allowing for more efficient farming.
Pay Attention to the Economy:
Monitor shop inventories and sell unwanted items to gather more Gil for purchasing useful items.
Use Companions Effectively:
Utilize any companion abilities that might aid in gathering or combat to improve your farming efficiency.

(Received AP shown is for the first playthrough. AP gain is much higher in Final Fantasy Mode !)

-Martha's Rest

-Northreach Area

  • Hyenas

Hyenas also give lots of ability points when defeated, and they also drop Goblin Coins that sell for 800 Gil a piece! You'll get a total of 400 AP for defeating 5 Hyenas found near Ravenwit Walls without equipping accessories that increase AP received. This is for late game farming since you can access the location where they spawn during the late game.

There are some unique weapons and accessories that you can obtain from treasure chests, renown rewards, or side quests. Some upgrades in Final Fantasy Mode require two of the base item, which is only possible if you carry them over through New Game Plus .If you start Final Fantasy Mode without obtaining these unique accessories the first time, you will not be able to upgrade them in your second playthrough.

Make sure to replay locations to open all treasure chests, earn enough renown, and clear side quests before starting a New Game Plus .

~Overview~

Unfortunately, with a world and story as expansive as Final Fantasy 16's, there are bound to be some things you can completely miss and be locked out of if you move forward in the story a bit too far. However, The good news is that you can avoid that happening if you know where the point of no return is and the content you must tackle before going beyond it.

Final Fantasy 16 has a total of 12 Missable Sub Quests, meaning they will be permanently locked away and inaccessible to you beyond a specific point in the story. Fortunately, the game gives you a fair warning before that moment happens. The only downside is you will have no idea which Sub Quests will go away.

The Point Of No Return:
Before we dive into the Sub Quests that will become unavailable, let's cover what The Point of No Return is, as you will want to avoid going past it at all costs, or you will likely miss your chance to tackle all Sub Quests in Final Fantasy 16.

The Main Quest, "The Crystal's Curse", is The Point of No Return , meaning the moment you initiate this Quest, you will be locked out of accessing the Missable Sub Quests for the remainder of your playthrough. Unless, of course, you have a Safe File before this point.

Alliant Reports:
One last thing we'd like to touch on before moving into the Missable Side Quests is the Alliant Reports you will gain access to upon completing the Main Quest "Righting Wrongs".Alliant Reports will show you every available Quest in the world of Valisthea.

This allows you to quickly see which Sub Quests you currently have accepted and which ones are still available to be accepted and even displays their rewards. To access Alliant Reports, head to Cid's Hideaway and speak with Gaute in the Ale Hall of the Hideout.

Quests:
Now that you have the general gist of why there are Missable Sub Quests in Final Fantasy 16and how to prevent yourself from missing out on them, let's cover all 12 Missable Sub Quests. The table below will have all the information you're looking for and then some!

~What is a Review~

A game review is a critical assessment of a video game that evaluates various elements such as gameplay, graphics, sound, story, and overall experience. A well-structured game review typically includes the following components:

Introduction
The review begins with an introduction that sets the stage for the game being reviewed. It might include details about the game's developer, publisher, release date, and genre. This section often contains the reviewerโ€™s initial impressions or expectations based on pre-release marketing or trailers.

Gameplay
This section focuses on the mechanics of the game. It describes how the game is played, the control scheme, level design, and the variety of gameplay elements (e.g., combat, crafting, puzzles). The reviewer discusses how engaging the gameplay is and whether it feels intuitive, challenging, or repetitive.

Graphics and Art Style
Here, the reviewer discusses the visual aspects of the game, including graphics, animation quality, and the overall art style. The review may compare the graphics to other games in the same genre and comment on how well the visuals contribute to the game's atmosphere.

Sound and Music
This part addresses the audio elements, including sound effects, voice acting, and soundtrack. The reviewer evaluates how these elements enhance or detract from the immersion and emotional impact of the game.

Story and Characters
The narrative aspect of the game is examined here. The reviewer discusses the plot, character development, and writing quality. They analyze how effectively the story unfolds and whether it resonates with players.

Replayability and Content
This section assesses the game's longevity, including side quests, additional modes, or multiplayer features. The reviewer considers whether the game offers enough content to warrant multiple playthroughs and how rewarding it is to explore.

Technical Performance
The review also covers the game's performance on different platforms, noting any issues such as bugs, frame rate drops, or loading times. The reviewer might also discuss optimization and whether the game runs smoothly.

Conclusion
The review concludes with a summary of the overall experience, often including a recommendation for potential players. The reviewer may also assign a score or rating, which serves as a quick reference for readers.

Pros and Cons
Some reviews include a list of strengths and weaknesses, providing a brief snapshot of the game's best and worst aspects.

By combining these elements, a game review aims to inform potential players about what to expect from a game and help them decide whether it aligns with their preferences and interests.

FINAL FANTASY XVI - A Hilariously Detailed Review
Rating: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… (5/5)

Introduction - The Kingdom of Eikonic Shenanigans
Ah, Final Fantasy XVI! A game that promises epic adventures, intense battles, and a world filled with politics, betrayal, and... red and furry chocobos? If youโ€™ve ever wanted to dive into a medieval fantasy realm while simultaneously wondering why your protagonist looks like he just stepped out of a fashion magazine, then congratulations! Youโ€™ve stumbled upon an outrageous experience that marries serious storytelling with a sprinkle of ridiculousness. Buckle up, folks; itโ€™s going to be a wild ride!

First Impressions - Graphics So Good, Youโ€™ll Forget to Breathe
From the moment you plunge into the bustling streets of Valisthea, you canโ€™t help but be blown away by the graphics. Each texture is so stunning that it makes you question if your console is secretly a portal to an alternate universe. Seriously, the sunsets are so beautiful that you might just find yourself saying, โ€œForget the main quest; I need to watch the sun go down!โ€

And the character designs? Letโ€™s talkโ€”NPCs look like they just stepped off the runway, while your hero, Clive Rosfield, looks like heโ€™s about to take over a rock band. Thereโ€™s an undeniable charm in how heavily armored knights are adorned like theyโ€™ve just come from a high-end fashion show. Hey, if you can slay monsters while looking fabulous, why not?

Gameplay - Spikey Hair and Spiky Combat
Now, letโ€™s delve into the gameplay mechanics, which range from exhilarating to infuriating in the blink of an eye. Combat in Final Fantasy XVI is fast-paced and fluid, akin to a well-rehearsed dance; that is, if the dancers were wielding enormous blades and unleashing magical powers. Thereโ€™s a certain satisfaction in executing flashy combosโ€” perfect for those of us who always wanted to be the star of an action movie but unfortunately can't leap over coffee tables without tripping.

The Eikon battles are where things get really wild. You basically trade blows with colossal beastsโ€”think Kaiju-level showdowns, but instead of cities getting flattened, youโ€™re tearing apart the egos of giant elemental creatures. Itโ€™s like a Monster Hunter crossover with an epic wrestling match! Sadly, you might find yourself wishing you could summon one of the Eikons for a daily errand, like grocery shopping or effectively dealing with your in-laws.

Storyline - Complex Politics and Bizarre Love Stories
You know, for a fantasy game, the plot is shockingly intricate, involving kingdom politics that feel as convoluted as reading a tax code. The gameโ€™s narrative weaves together themes of power, betrayal, and a dash of family drama. Itโ€™s like a Shakespearean play, but with more swords and less iambic pentameter.

Cliveโ€™s journey through Valisthea leads him through various stunning districts, but strap inโ€”the story involves more twists than a pretzel factory. Youโ€™ll go through emotional moments that feel gut-wrenching and then be whisked away to a scene where characters throw around terms like "Dominants" and "Mothercrystals" with all the casual familiarity of a group chat deciding where to grab food.

And letโ€™s not forget the colorful side characters! Youโ€™ve got your brooding best friend, the enigmatic healer, and a few stoic warriors. They each come packed with backstories so rich you could fill a library. Don't be surprised if you find yourself emotionally attached to a character who has only shown up for five minutes and shared a single cup of tea!

Quests - A Series of Side Adventures and Shiny Things
Side quests in Final Fantasy XVI range from the delightfully mundane (helping a merchant find missing goatsโ€”see you, goat enthusiasts) to the uproariously absurd (turning out a rabid bunch of chocolate-crazed chocobos). They might feel like filler content, but sometimes the side characters have the wildest personalities, making you forget about that serious world-ending calamity for a moment.

In addition, every quest rewards you with shiny things. Progressing through the game might leave your pockets full of loot, but be prepared to spend hours sorting through your inventory like youโ€™re Marie Kondo-ing your life. โ€œDoes this sword spark joy? Yes, itโ€™s the size of a small car, but does it spark joy?โ€

Final Thoughts - A Hilarious Epilogue on Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy XVI is a delightful juxtaposition of gravitas and hilarity. It tackles the weighty themes of fate, power, and destiny, but manages to sprinkle in enough levity to remind you not to take everything too seriously. Youโ€™ll laugh, youโ€™ll cry, and you might even find yourself pondering if you should ever trust a giant ethereal creature that looks like it should have a social media account.

So, whether youโ€™re a die-hard Final Fantasy fan or just someone who enjoys a good laugh alongside a gripping story, grab your controller and dive into Valisthea. Just remember: even in a world of darkness and epic battles, itโ€™s okay to stop and take a picture of that obnoxiously cute monster. After all, you never know when you might need an Instagram story for your fantasy adventures!

FINAL FANTASY XVI - A Detailed Positive Review
Rating: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… (5/5)

The release of Final Fantasy XVI marks a monumental moment in the storied franchise, carrying the legacy of its predecessors while forging its own unique path. Square Enix has crafted a title that not only pays homage to the seriesโ€™ rich history but also dares to innovate in a way that revitalizes the JRPG genre. Hereโ€™s a comprehensive breakdown of what makes Final Fantasy XVI an exceptional gaming experience.

1. Engaging Narrative and Characters
At the heart of Final Fantasy XVI is a compelling narrative that weaves themes of power, politics, and personal growth. Set in the war-torn realm of Valisthea, the game explores the repercussions of a world shaped by the dominance of the Eikons (powerful summoned beings) and their Dominantsโ€”human hosts who wield immense abilities. The storyโ€™s focus on Clive Rosfield, the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria, offers players a deeply personal journey filled with emotional stakes and complex relationships.

The character development is particularly noteworthy. Clive's evolution from a protective older brother to a seasoned warrior is beautifully depicted, and his interactions with characters like Joshua, his younger brother, and Jill, a childhood friend, are intricately woven into the narrative fabric. The moral dilemmas faced by these characters are compelling, forcing players to confront the grey areas of loyalty, sacrifice, and destiny.

2. Stunning Visuals and Art Direction
Final Fantasy XVI showcases breath-taking graphics that push the boundaries of current-gen hardware. The world of Valisthea is richly detailed, from the fog-laden forests to the towering cities, each location feels alive and immersive. The art direction blends fantasy elements with a gritty realism that enhances the overall atmosphere, making the player feel deeply connected to the setting.

The character designs are striking, with each Eikon and Dominant featuring unique visual aesthetics that reflect their powers and personalities. The attention to detail in animations, especially during cutscenes and combat, adds layers of depth to the narrative and emotional engagement.

3. Dynamic Combat System
One of the most significant departures from previous entries is the revamped combat system. Final Fantasy XVI embraces a real-time action model that is both fluid and exhilarating. The combat feels responsive and impactful, allowing players to string together combos with ease. The use of Eikon abilities brings an additional layer of strategy to battles, enabling players to customize their combat style according to their preferences.

The game balances accessibility with depth, so newcomers can easily pick up and enjoy the mechanics, while seasoned players can dive into the intricacies of timing, dodging, and ability cooldowns. Boss battles are particularly noteworthy, featuring epic scale encounters that showcase the power of Eikons in a way that feels both cinematic and interactive.

4. Rich World Building
The lore of Valisthea is intricately crafted, drawing players into a well-developed world filled with history and culture. The game masterfully utilizes lore to enhance the narrative, with side quests and world exploration revealing the rich tapestry of the gameโ€™s background. The use of environmental storytelling and lore-friendly interactions make the world feel lived-in and vibrant, encouraging players to engage with every aspect of the setting.

5. Soundtrack and Audio Design
Final Fantasy music has always been a hallmark of the series, and Final Fantasy XVI is no exception. Composed by Masayoshi Soken, the soundtrack perfectly complements the emotional highs and lows of the game. Each piece enhances the atmosphere, from the heart-pounding battle themes to the serene melodies of exploration. The audio design, including voice acting and environmental sounds, enriches the experience, making it all the more immersive.

6. Exploration and Side Content
While the main narrative is compelling, Final Fantasy XVI offers a wealth of side content that enriches the experience. Players can engage in meaningful side quests that often build upon the main story, providing deeper insights into character backstories and the world itself. Exploration is incentivized through hidden treasures, challenging side bosses, and rich lore, ensuring that players feel rewarded for their curiosity.

The balance between the main narrative and side activities is excellent, providing players with the freedom to engage with the world at their own pace without feeling overwhelmed.

7. Themes of Power and Responsibility
At its core, Final Fantasy XVI delves into heavy themes of power, responsibility, and the human condition. It asks profound questions about the cost of power and the impact of oneโ€™s choices on others, creating a rich thematic tapestry that resonates throughout the gameplay experience. This depth invites players to reflect on their own values and beliefs, elevating the narrative beyond mere entertainment.
Conclusion

Final Fantasy XVI emerges as a triumph for the franchise, successfully marrying innovation with tradition. It offers a breath-taking world, a captivating story, and a revamped combat system that draws players into an unforgettable journey. With its rich character development and poignant themes, the game stands as a testament to the series' enduring legacy while paving the way for its future.

In the landscape of modern gaming, Final Fantasy XVI not only fulfills the expectations of long-time fans but also invites newcomers to experience the magic of the franchise. This is a title that will be remembered and cherished for years to come. Whether you're a veteran of the series or a newcomer, Final Fantasy XVI promises an engaging, unforgettable adventure that leaves a lasting impression.

~Witness my creation!~

Hello, DoBYaH the author here.
I hope you are enjoying the collective content of FINAL FANTASY XVI , I have collected, compiled and edited for four weeks. As you already know this guide primary serves as a Compendium to FINAL FANTASY XVI , but it's secondary function is also important for the future generation of guides to be. In short the DO's and DONT's - To build a better guide, for example: more compact & informative, straight to the point and aesthetics... So I consider this guide to be a "proof of concept" and later the "legacy build" that will be build upon...

Why memeing "Ultima Weapon (Atma Weapon)" ?
Has it to do something with the FF XVI lore? - Officially, No.
Because that's the first thing that came to my mind:

Fan Lore-wise maybe one of the Ultima's species where one of the lost-bastard ancient children of "FF II" before "FF XVI" , where the Misidian mages created the "Ultima Tome" (Which learns you the strongest spell "Ultima" .) - In the likeness of their creator Ultima (As a homage or unconsciously - because they just knew how to create the spell?) It would be awesome if in FF XVI Ultima would have a pet called "Atma (Ultima weapon)" in the final fight as a homage to FF VI . :P :P :P

Thank You, for using my guide...

Hello, millertime39
Yes, I could add this. But as of now I wont have the free time to do so, sorry.

I would like to add in a really early AP farm for those that are looking it is immediately prior to an early boss fight there are 7 Wind elementals that give 40 AP per run right next to a teleportation crystal. Once you beat the boss though this farm is no longer available. Sorry if this is vague trying to avoid spoilers.

Congratulations on a great job, but the amount of hours you put into such an extensive guide for such a trivial game that plays itself out is crazy. I admire the passion though.
