Manually Install Addons
By GhostSynth
A guide on how to manually install addons from the Workshop that do not properly mount to the game. The reason behind this sometimes may be that the creator of the mod forgot to compile it into a VPK or the mod can be broken in some other unknown way. If an addon you tried to install doesn't work though, then follow this guide or check your subscriptions for another conflicting mod.

Step One
Finding the addon and subscribing to it. IDK how else you'd find out in this situation but whatever. Subscribing will ensure that it'll drop itself in your Workshop folders inside the files. Here is the example addon I'll be using. (Check out his other awesome models!)

Step Two
Once you're subscribed, you'll have to check the ID of the addon to paste it later. You can click the share button of an addon or copy the number from the link at the top of your Steam browser. Highlight the last numbers in the share link, then copy them for later.
Step Three
Head to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\362890
in File Explorer. The numbers "362890" at the top is the game's ID. This is where all your Black Mesa Workshop addons are typically stored, especially if you subscribe to more than one item.
Step Four
Click the search bar at the top-right and paste the Workshop ID of the mod that was mentioned in the second step. It should pop up only one folder which has the ID numbers of the mod in its name. Click inside and there should be a VPK inside. (If not a VPK, there might be just another folder with models, materials, and sounds inside.)
Step Five
Make sure the first File Explorer tab is still open! Open a new tab by right-clicking File Explorer at the bottom in the Taskbar. With that new tab open, head to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Black Mesa\bms
and look for a "custom" folder, if there is no custom folder inside, create a new one and name it, then drag the mod inside.
Testing The Game
The VPK or folder should now be in the custom folder. Now test out the game and see if the mod works better! After play sessions, you might notice "Sound Caches" appearing in your custom folder with similar names. You can try deleting them, but it doesn't matter. They don't do anything and are usually just one kilobyte in size.
