I'm a nexus newbie. Where do I install the mods to?

I went to Nexus mods and downloaded the mods I want and am using Vortex and I am in the process of trying to install the mods but for Vortex isn't recognizing the game in its database. I am close but I am missing something. Does anyone have an idea of can help me figure out what I am missing or doing wrong?
