Best Game Guide with Storage Room Optimization and Tips (v0.1.2)

This guide describes how to optimize your storage, store, and ordering in Supermarket Simulator. It also provides some information on stockers, in-store organization, pricing, product ordering, etc. Screenshots are included.

Preface
This guide assumes that you already know the basics of the game. If you are not at least level 10, then I would recommend getting a basic understanding of the game before continuing with this guide. However, there are some good tips in this guide, even for people who are completely new to the game.
Storage Room: Organization and Layout
It can take some time arrange your storage room effectively, but once you are done with it you probably won't have to organize things again. At level 60, I have found that the ideal number of storage racks is 26, however I have created a storage room with the potential to have 30 racks, if needed.

Refer to the images at the BOTTOM OF THE GUIDE to see an example of a 26-rack or 30-rack storage room.

I have "Shelf", "Fridge", and "Freezer" items each organized separately. You can filter by these categories by using the "Display" dropdown menu. It is recommended to organize your warehouse based on the same order as the Market. This makes it easier to do your daily shopping.

I would also recommend saving some boxes in your warehouse for reorganizing. Boxes will stack on your storage racks, so save as many as you feel is necessary. I saved 2 of the largest boxes, 4 of each of the medium boxes, and a full rack space of each of the small (6) and tiny (18) boxes. The image below provides an example of what that looks like



Storage Room: Quantities
For most items you will only need one rack space. For kegs, milk - 6pk, yamo (green bottle) cleaner, and bleach you will need 2 rack spaces. For the largest items, such as toilet paper, frozen chickens, and potatoes you will need to use 3 rack spaces. Fill each space only when it completely runs out. Below is an example of what that might look like.

In-Store: Organization and Electricity Costs
Once you have stockers, as long as you have enough shelf space, you can arrange your store however you want. The stockers will be filling your shelves for you so don't worry about doing any of the stocking yourself. You will want to try to minimize the number of coolers and freezers in your store because they each have electricity costs associated with them. Freezers are especially expensive at $12.50 per day. Here are the daily electricity costs associated with each type of furniture:

When it comes to lighting, I'm not sure if there an additional charge per light. But for me it wouldn't matter anyway. I keep my lights off all night to save money. I placed my lights in the same layout as what was provided in the beginning. For ideal lighting, that layout seems to work really well. If you want to turn your lights on at 9pm you can, as it will only cost you a few cents in electricity charges.
In-Store: Quantities and Pricing
As far as quantities of items go, I recommend keeping an allocation with a quantity of at least 16 on each item. For example, you should have 8 shelf spaces filled with toilet paper, 2 shelf spaces with flour, 2 shelf spaces with cereal, and 1 shelf space filled with salt. You can do more than that, but it's not necessary once you have stockers. The only exception I make is with frozen items because they are so expensive to store in the freezers. On frozen items I set the minimums to 12 instead of 16. This means just 3 spaces are filled with frozen chicken and 1 with each ice cream. Generally, if you have quantities of at least 16 then your stockers will be pinged to fill it long before it ever runs out. They are pinged to fill a shelf space when it reaches 75% full or less.

Also, in the middle of the day, you might need to check on your larger items such as chicken and paper towels because some days these items seem to be popular. Customers sometimes purchase large quantities of paper towels, frozen chicken, and milk 6pk.

For pricing items, I almost always set prices to the market price to maximize the XP gains and number of items purchased. You want to sell as much product as possible in order to pay your employees, rent, and bills. The only exception I make is if my profit is less than $0.50 on a shelf item, $0.75 on a cooler item, or $1 on a freezer item then I will increase the price so that I am at least making a profit after shipping and electricity costs.
Ordering and Shipping
Only purchase products at the beginning of the day to maximize efficiency. Also, only order a product if the rack space for it is completely empty. You will have to wait until your stockers are done with their stocking from the night before to start your ordering, otherwise you may order too much.
When buying items, shipping comes in 3 price tiers:

I recommend buying products in quantities of 3 or 6 items to minimize shipping costs. You will only want to purchase products when they completely run out on a storage rack. Once you have an empty space, fill it completely to minimize the number of times you need to fill the storage racks. Prices changes on items won't affect ordering because it all evens out in the end, so completely fill your rack spaces once they run out.



6 boxes is also ideal for moving your boxes from the street to your warehouse. It is easier to move and find 6 boxes at a time than it is 20-30, so ordering 6 items and then immediately filling the spots is the quickest way to get your morning inventory done. Eventually, there will be an update so that you will no longer have to move boxes from the street to storage, but until then I recommend ordering and moving 6 boxes at a time.

Tip: If you have too many shelves, racks, or other furniture, then you can sell them if you don't want to store the boxes outside your store. When you sell them, you will get back 50% of the purchase price. To sell a piece of furniture, box it up ("C") and then hold down the "F" button to sell it.
Cashiers and Stockers
You will want to get 3 cashiers as soon as you can, but you will never need more than 3. They are really slow, so they will work well past 9:00pm. Right now, there simply aren't enough customers to need a fourth cashier, as 4 stockers are too slow to keep up with 3 cashiers anyway.

Hire stockers as soon as you can. The storage room is useless without them. They are really slow so you will want to hire all of them as soon as you are able to. If you don't then the stocking will take forever. Stockers will be pinged to fill a shelf space when it reaches 75% of the total allocation for that space. When they go to fill a shelf space, they will then fill all shelf spaces associated with that item. In a future update stockers will be able to move boxes from the street to your storage room.
Upgrades and Reorganizing
When it comes to upgrading your store, I recommend mostly focusing on product "Licenses". Store "Growth" expansions will start becoming really expensive at around level 20. I have found that, now that stockers are introduced, store expansions don't really matter. If you organize your store effectively, you are probably only going to need "Section 9" at the most. Sections 10-23 are something that you can focus on after you purchase all the product licenses. You probably won't earn enough money to purchase all the sections anyway, so you will have to decide whether you want product licenses or expansions. As far as I can tell, Growth Sections don't really do anything other than make your store bigger. You have the same amount of customers, no matter the size of your store. Increasing the size of your store will also increase the cost of your daily rent.

Reorganizing your store can be kind of difficult if you have stockers. For this reason, as you level up, I recommend buying all the product licenses at the same time once you reach the level requirement for a set of product licenses. You will probably want to save up an extra $5-10k for filling your shelves and warehouse before you start reorganizing. Once you are ready to upgrade, fire all your stockers that morning. While this might sound crazy, it will only cost you $425 and will prevent them from trying to restock stuff. If you really want to save time with reorganizing, open your store for a couple days after firing your stockers. This will help clear out your shelves for reorganizing, as well as offset the cost of firing your stockers. Customers might complain a lot, but it's worth it for the convenience. After your stockers are fired, you can use the extra boxes that you have saved up in your storage room to help you rearrange everything. It doesn't matter how you arrange your store, as long as you are not overfilling your shelves. Stockers and customers don't care where items are placed. When placing new items, don't forget to set the prices on them, otherwise you will be losing money until you raise them.

Another tip: You can box up a rack or shelf with product on it by pressing the "C" key when the shelf or rack is selected. When you put the box back on the ground, the product will still be there. WARNING! THE GAME ONLY REMEMBERS THE LAST RACK/SHELF THAT YOU BOXED UP, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THERE IS PRODUCT ON IT. IF YOU BOX UP A SHELF WITH PRODUCT ON IT AND THEN BOX UP ANOTHER EMPTY OR FULL SHELF, THEN YOUR FIRST SHELF'S PRODUCT WILL BE LOST FOREVER.

SCO´s (self-checkouts) are in my opinion the way to go. I have 5 SCO´s and 0 standard cashiers. They take up less space, and you only need to pay once. That simple. Nice guide btw ;)

@eria tarka This is how I have my storage room aswell, even though it feels like it is the most effective layout, here I am looking for an alternative layout still lol

but since I am constantly restocking, my restockers just put things everywhere cause it was too late to fix by the time it started getting busy, so theres no real rhyme to it. It's pretty scattered.
The only way to do it, fire all my restockers, place a bunch of shelves in boxes, place them aside while you buy empty shelves. Basically packing the room up (the stuff on the shelves stay there even after you open the box) , and taking each item and organizing it that way. Such a tedious process, so no thanks lol

Here is my current layout.
beside the door is a single row, 6 shelves across. the middle is 4 rows of 6 back to back shelves, with a single row at the end,2 shelves in front of the door, and 8 shelves on the other side of the stairs. (i have the full storage room upgrades)

i assume a shelf space is not the full LENGTH of the shelves but the halves? (so the toilet roll is a whole 1 rack as example?) - not unlocked that far yet anyway - at moment i have two shelves of bread, (4 spaces) as when i started everyone was buying bread - its slowed now i have more products so thats why im looking whats the optimised amounts.

also - on your screenshot you have till same way i do by window, but the customers walk BEHIND it? do they do that on your game? it annoys me walking behind as real life you wouldnt walk in the staff part of the tills

Given the most recent update that increases the number of customers, I don't think 3 cashiers is enough now to handle a level 60+ store. I have 4 cashiers now and even they can't handle the rush at the end of the day without people complaining that all the cashier lanes are full.
