So you wonna have good gear huh?
But no matter how many natural heroes you execute, they still only drop wands?
I got your back!
As of the writing of this guide, there is no reliable way of gaining gear.
Sure you can
-execute captured heroes
-sell their remains
-clear red camps
-clear wonders
-materium scouts can prospect for them

but there is a limited amount of said encounters per world, drops tend to cluster in a tier 2, and moreover, those are all active methods, requiring your heroes and armies to take action.

So let me show you a better path, a golden path!

now all you need is a bit of patience and some other npc faction

  • You need to reach relation of a minimum 200 positive rating (top of the screen in red circle)
  • Remember you can offer them a small gift of gold to improve your relationship by 50
  • After you reach 200 threshold new category of "items" will appear for them (second red circle)
  • Items choices will change every 10 turns, possibly sooner if you buy any of the items on offer
  • Remember you can befriend multiple factions, for multiple shopping opportunities!

Faction will offer 3 extremely powerful items usually tier 4 with occasional tier 3 in a mix

Also, it is important you can do it from the very second you befriend said faction, meaning you can possibly get game-breaking items like godbreaker on turn 10 or so!

Improving relation with them will also improve price of items, and remeber npc will often buy junk items from you

here are some screenshots of interesting items that you can find this way

Hope you learned something useful reading this guide!
Take care and remember, money is like spice, and it must flow!

This entire guide is obsolete. The 'Item Forge' was added, and now you can get rid of the spam T1 items you pick up, by disenchanting them, to make your own custom T4 items.

This used to be true for earlier versions of the game. however, since the wolf patch, the crappy items have made their way into the other factions also. Trading with other factions is still possible, only that they have crappy items now - t1 or t2 and as useless as you find on the map.

Even on high difficulty, you can make friends by dumping enough gold into bribes. Bribing empires into being friendly is often cheaper than fighting them with armies, at least in the early game. Then again, I play Wondrous Architects + Perfectionist Artisans, which might be affecting my perspective on how hard it is to get gold :)

Always great to see another Warhammer fan! I'd love to see a 40k orientated guide where you suggest different faction/combinations.

Love your guides! :dreadnought::blood_angels:

Enchiridion,
Surveying mountains can only be done by the scouts of an 'Industry' culture. Other cultures can not do that.

I think this mechanic of selling junk for fortune and buying end-tier items from "nowhere" is not good and it should be fixed.
I think AI should not buy items it can't or d't want to equip on his current heroes and do not sell items which AI d't have or d't equip already on some hero.

note that in highest difficulty you get big relation debuffs so that it will be much harder to befriend IA - even to reach 200 - so it makes this mechanic less exploitable which is not too bad because otherwise it makes the game extremely easy because you can also abuse this befriend mechanic to make infinite gold selling bad items you got for hundreds of gold
Nevertheless good info there good job
