Opening Cut-scene
Aboard the colony ship in orbit above the planet a discussion occurs between serveral Sky Ones:
  1. They admire the great number of colonists held in stasis tubes. "What we lack in quality test subjects we will surely make up for in abundant quantity. Muhaha. "

  2. They discuss their plans to test a wide range of stresses upon these subjects, before using a Ball to transform them into smoke beings.

  3. They agree they must first re-calibrate their scattered labs for human physiology. For this phase they will first experiment on the captured crew members.

  4. They then descend to the planet in their shuttle UFO. Commenting on need to take care on landing this time.

Escape
At times you begin to doubt assurances of the Sky Ones' benevolence

Our hero starts the game as one of these lab rats. He endures cycles of temperature extremes as various alien devices measure his condition. Between tests he is returned to his cell.

Then one cycle this happens:
  1. He hears a humming noise, and discovers a simple tool hidden in his cell. It glows strangely.
  2. Once equipped, the tool glows more strongly near a certain panel in the cell walls.
  3. The hero can remove the panel with this tool, then escape outside via a maze of duct-work.

Even more than a bunk, you just hope one of these panels conceals a toilet

Rendezvous
Reverse-parking remains perilous throughout time and space

While equipped, the tool you discovered will glow or fade to guide your journey, until it glows steadily upon reaching its destination:
  1. The tool leads our hero to a downed Sky One shuttle saucer, half buried on a beach.
  2. While exploring inside he discovers he is not alone. From the shadows emerges a longhead alien (a survivor of the doomed C7 race mentioned in the 1st game)
  3. But the Longhead makes a gesture of peace. He flips a switch to restore the power.
  4. The craft's holographic map lights up - there are highlighted points scattered across it. "Your friends" says the Longhead.

Recuperation
"I am 'Kur'. Now follow" says the alien:
  1. Kur leads our Hero out to a nearby rock wall. He gestures with a bony finger and the rock face shimmer and fades to reveal a cave system - seemingly some psychokinetic power.
  2. A short journey takes them to his subterranean camp. There's food and water there plus a some human equipment that Kur has managed to salvage during his travels.
  3. Our Hero can sleep and recuperate here.
  4. After the hero has recuperated, Kur gestures towards the exit. He says: "I failed to save my own tribe, but perhaps can help save yours Go now, and bring here your friends"

He's a guru
Rescue Missions
The bulk of the game is taken up by the Hero searching the islands for the various test labs. then rescuing the crew members one by one:
  • While the hero cannot carry a map, he can return between expeditions.to consult the holomap inside the crashed UFO
  • Some prisoners will be much harder to rescue than others, To scale difficulty throughout the game these areas will 'gated' until the player picks up various keys, flips switches etc, in the easier areas.
  • The Sky Ones will of course become aware of the Hero's activities and set traps for him, and/or release their three-toed hunters as he progresses.
  • Liberated prisoners are all too injured or exhausted to help on this quest so are best returned to the camp.
Revelations
After the first crew member is returned, Kur reveals an ancient alien tablet:
"My story. Your story. The secret story of all warm-blood walkers" he says. "We carried it though the ages"

Useful for patching the downed saucer you suggest

Amongst the pile of salvaged human equipment can be found a text-translation device. When used on the tablet it will give this first message: "Unknown alien text. Decoding in progress"

But after each crew member is returned, one more part of the tablet translation will have been completed. Eventually the full text reads as follows:

Part 1: In this star-lit galaxy we were the peerless masters of all the Mind's powers. Yet this was not enough.

Part 2: We built the great Babel Tower to join our all our mind-voices as one. And our shout commanded the Veil to part between the Realms.

Part 3: Disaster. From out of the Dark Realm streamed the Mind Eaters.

Part 4: Only the quiet minds of the un-gifted were spared. And we hid them from the ravenous storm amongst the scattered star systems. While the parasites gorged themselves upon the minds of all our Ascended.

Part 5: With each hidden tribe we left an Orb. So when grown ready they might later 'Ascend' to the powers of the Mind, and perhaps reclaim our former sovereignty.

Part 6: But woe to those unworthy of the Orbs' great power.
Retaliation
After all the crew are rescued, Kur the alien says "Beam holds your ship. So now we use Orb"
  1. Together the hero and the Kur capture an inert ball
  2. Unexpectedly Kur presses his hands upon the ball. It opens and he enters it "I must ascend or die" he says
  3. Lots of special effects as Kur's 'Psionic Ascension' occurs.
  4. He breaks out of the Ball as a mighty being bristling with power.
  5. The psionic being destroys the Sky One's tractor beam holding the colony ship, then goes on a general rampage even taking down their floating pyramid

HOLY . . .
Result(s)
Once the dust settles it's clear that the planet is pretty much trashed. Kur, now an ascended 'Psionic Being', can speak clearly into the Hero's mind:

"I am the first and last of my race found ready for the Ball's true purpose. But he great project must continue to restore the Ancients' scattered children to their birthright.

The Sky One's knew not the Ball's true purpose, but their grasping for power revealed it nonetheless. Now, will you continue their harsh work, and seek out the worthy to bring them into Ascension?"

Ending 1:
If our Hero says 'No':
  • In a cut-scene the Hero and the crew enter the downed shuttle saucer. The psionic being gestures, and it lifts off and flies towards the Colony Ship. The Human race will try its luck elsewhere.

Ending 2:
If our Hero says 'Yes':
  • In a cut-scene the Hero dons the robes of the Sky Ones, and takes up their staff.
