Forget everything about DMC

Treat the game as it's own thing, the characters from the original series are them in name only and completely different characters. Don't expect much from the plot or expect Dante to start doing the yoinky sploinky with a funny cowboy hat and just try to enjoy it for the silly little thing it is

Don't let the gameplay changes throw you off

This game doesn't have a lock on, and it's actually not as bad as it sounds. Sometimes you'll hit the wrong enemy but overall I don't think it's a terrible change. Your default weapon is Rebellion and you switch weapons by holding RT and LT respectively. IMO, this is a great change from the OG series and saves you the trouble of scrolling through weapons to find which ones you want.

these people need to chill, this game is fun, played it on my xbox and i just bought it to play it again. i love the othe dmc games but i love this one too

@Belladonna Not to mention the fluid weapon change system, whereas in 4 and 5 you have to go through them all of them if you want to use something specific.

Story and characters are also subjective. Both in this game are more down to earth than og series' cocky as balls flavors. Dante may lack the "tastes and styles" the og Dante had, but he shows development as he knows better, cares for his allies, and just isn't as edgy as the Internet paints him to be. Vergil here turns out to be another selfish, opportunistic power hungry fool here but I still don't think he is necessarily a "complete downgrade" of the og Vergil as the Internet says, given the disgraceful display he showed as Urizen in DMC5 with the same common features.
Overall, despite how everyone complains about the so called story, it grew on me even more as time went by.

You're god damn right, bro. Sometimes people forgot, that reboot is REBOOT, that supposed to be a completely different game and universe, so calling this game a garbage because it's different from the original is kinda stupid

This is the game that got me into DMC and I love it for that. It was the first one I have ever played and also the first one to beat. Yea I was thrown off when I actually started playing the original but I just dealt with it and it got fun the more I played. Honestly without this one I probably would never have touched this series

A lot of this game doesn't work, but it's got it where it counts with some pretty awesome, smooth gameplay. And I'll tell you what this game does that none of the others figured out - it has an actually good dodge roll that doesn't require a lock on or style switch to use. In an intense action hack n' slash where every second counts, that's incredibly useful.

you'd be surprised how many people advise you to go in expecting it to be complete garbage with no redeeming factors
