Intro
Hey everyone!

So I've recently been getting back into Sacred and needed something... different, a fresh feeling and new look (more or less).
Looking around I then came across the Reborn mod and installed it. New scaling, some item changes, but most importantly: higher resolution. So far, so good.
But then I stumbled across a problem that really bummed me out. The max resolution the mod allows in the Config.exe is 1920x1080.
Now, here's the thing:
I have a multi-screen setup, my main screen has a resolution of 2560x1440, my other 1920x1080. Of course, I wanna run the game on the one with the higher resolution. This is were my problem set in.
The Issue
The game started in it's resolution of 1920x1080, resulting in a sort of 'screen-shift' between my first and second screen, messing up background applications and such. Here's a picture of what that looks like:

The area circled in isn't supposed to be there, it's part of the web browser in the background that got shifted from screen 1 over to screen 2.

After seeing this happening I tried a few things with the resolution settings (which wouldn't change anything after the first few tries, meaning the game launched in its default resolution rather than then one specified by the Reborn Config).
The Fix using dgVoodoo 2
A few days later I gave it anothter shot, this time I tried the Reborn Config in combination with dgVooDoo 2.
After some experimenting and trying, I couldn't seem to get any results either, so I decided to give it all a completely new install and go for a few settings that I gathered around the web.

So, the order in which I installed things is rather simple really:
  • Sacred Gold (duh)
  • Reborn Mod
  • dgVoodoo 2

Installing Reborn:
Download the mod from wherever you want (I used NexusMods). Then just follow installation instructions.

Installing dgVoodoo 2:
It's basically just extracting a .zip Folder to wherever you want.

After that's done, open the regular 'Config.exe' in the Sacred installation folder under wherever your Steam library is (XXX:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sacred Gold) and set it to the following:

The options checked are:
  • Fullscreen
  • 32 Bit Color Depth
  • Sound Activated

After that, go to the 'SacredReborn config.exe' in (preferably) the same folder and set the following:

Now bear in mind, the resolution in this picture can not be set regularly, just set it to 1920x1080.

The options checked are:
  • HD enable
  • Fullscreen
  • Resistance glow

Once that's done go into the launch settings for the regular 'Sacred.exe' and 'SacredReborn.exe', go to the 'Compatibility' tab and activate both 'Run in Compatibility Mode: Windows XP Service Pack 2' and 'Run as Administrator'. Hit Apply and OK.
Then launch the Reborn Mod to see if it starts in 1920x1080.
If so, close the game and start dgVoodoo 2.
Now the configuration that worked for me can be seen in the following screenshots:

Under 'Output API' select the latest Direct3D version
Under 'Adapter(s) to use / enable' select your GPU
Config the rest just like the screenshot.

-----

If you want, you can set the Resolution in this tab to your screens resolution, but I don't think it's necessary.
Config the rest just like the screenshot.

-----

Under 'Videocard', select the one from the screenshot (if not already selected).
Set your VRAM to whatever your GPU can handle.
Set Resolution to your screens resolution (mandatory!)
Set Antialiasing to whatever you like.
Check 'Fast video memory access' (mandatory!)
Uncheck 'dgVoodoo Watermark' (if you want)

Hit Apply and OK.
Now if you have dgVoodoo in any other folder than the Sacred Gold install folder, you have to manually copy the following files into the Sacred Gold installation directory:

  • dgVoodoo.conf
  • MS\x86\DDraw.dll
  • MS\x86\D3Dlmm.dll
  • MS\x86\D3D8.dll

Replace files when asked to. You will always have to do this when you change anything in dgVoodoo.
Now, for the last check before it should be running as expected, go to the regular 'Settings.cfg' file in the Sacred Gold install directory and open it.
It should look like this:

The most important lines here are the following:

SR_HD_ENABLE : 1
SR_HD_HEIGHT : 1440
SR_HD_WIDTH : 2560
SR_QUICK_CAST : 0
SR_RESISTANCE_GLOW : 1
SR_UPSCALING : 0

Keep in mind that the values under SR_HD_HEIGHT and SR_HD_WIDTH will be the values that you first set in the Reborn Config launcher. These will replace the regular SR_HEIGHT and SR_WIDTH lines in the file, indicating that Reborn did change the resolution. Now all you have to do is change the values to whatever resolution you want.
Also, for some extra stability during gameplay and quick saves/loads you can add the line

WAITRETRACE : 0

into the file.
Now, when you try running the Reborn Mod, it should start in the correct resolution and (if you have a screen setup similar to mine), the issue with the 'screen-shift' shouldn't occur anymore.
Also, when you open the Reborn Config exe now, it should display the resolution you manually entered in the config file, no matter if it was available in the launcher by default or not.
End
So yeah, that's about it. Those were pretty much the steps I took to make the game launch in 2560x1440. One thing to note is, that some of the UI may look a bit small compared to lower resolutions, as they don't really scale up.
An example of what I mean is the inventory and equipment bar while in game:

Now I can't say how small they will be with resolutions higher than 2560x1440, but I assume anything beyond that will make it pretty difficult to still be enjoyable.
Either way, I hope this guide provides some help to anyone struggling with resolution issues of this kind with the game and if any questions arise, please let me know^^

I wanna give a shoutout to the team of the Reborn mod for their hard work and dedication to one of my all time favourite games. The mod can be found here:

If only they figured out how to scale the inventory screen sizes and stat screens (the whole ui basically) along with the larger resolution, otherwise playing in 1366x768 will do for me, on my 1920x1080 laptop
