How to
Edit April 2024:
Game in Win11 is only running under Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode (I can’t check if it’s the same for Win10). To do so:
- navigate to your TR Chronicles folder (...\steamapps\common\Tomb Raider (V) Chronicles)
- swift+right click the PCTomb5.exe
- select properties
- in compatibility tab check the box “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)”.
- First time you run the game launch the setup program and choose your resolution etc.

Regarding the steam overlay
After a lot of tests with configurations and guides of various ways to run the steam overlay, it seems it is not possible at the moment (with an easy way) to do so. I tested most of the versions of dgvoodoo between 2.01 and 2.82.4 with no luck. It seems to me the problem is a steam or windows update at some point that caused it. It may work with older windows versions.
I will be checking back once or twice a year to see if things are working or after a major steam update.

I will leave the guide here for future reference but as of now:

THIS GUIDE DOESN’T WORK.

As with the other Tomb Raider games you can use dgVoodoo2 to enable the overlay.

  • 1. Download latest version of dgVoodoo2 from http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/
  • 2. Unzip anywhere you want and copy the dll files inside of MS\x86 folder
  • 3. Paste the files at your TR5 installation folder (...\steamapps\common\Tomb Raider (V) Chronicles)
  • 4. Open dgVoodooCpl.exe, go to DirectX tab, make sure as a Videocard says dgVoodoo Virtual 3D Accelerated card.
Optional: Choose Vram, MSAA, remove dgVoodoo Watermark and Force Vsync
  • 5. Hit Apply, OK
  • 6. Now start the game and choose the Launch setup program option
If your launcher won't show up: In steam's game page: Manage (gear icon)->Properties->
In Launch Option field write: -setup
  • 7. You should see preselected the “dgVoodoo DirectX Wrapper” as your Graphics Adapter and
“dgVoodoo Hardware Accelerated Device” in the Output Settings
  • 8. Choose your Output Resolution (I also chose Texture Bit Depth 32 Bit and Volumetric FX on)
  • 9. Click OK
  • 10. Profit

That was a onetime process and you can start your game normally next time.

If your controller doesn't work open the Controller Configuration menu from the library's game page and choose a community Configuration or make your own.

I know this is an old issue so I tried the same thing with dgVoodooCpl, I did everything correctly, I even see the option in the Set up but now instead of seeing the Eidos start, now it doesn't even launch up. I don't know what, if anything, I did wrong.

Thank you very much. My long-standing execution problem has been resolved. I also bought Tomb Raider I-III Remastered with great excitement. I also had a special respect for the fact that they would remain loyal to the old interface and that they could switch to this interface if desired. However, although the new interface is very nice and professional, I see that they cannot present the old graphical interface with its original quality. This made the original Core Design versions even more valuable. Of course this is the case for me. Thanks again..

There are only 3 things to check if the overlay doesn't work:
1. The dgVoodoo dll files are in the TRV folder, not in the MS\x86\
2. Step 4: make sure the videocard selected is dgVoodoo Virtual 3D Accelerated card
3. Step 7: the dgVoodoo DirectX Wrapper is selected
Other than these I used the 2.78.2 version, maybe the latest version is not exactly the same.
When I'll find some time I will fresh install everything and update accordingly.
- Also, Happy new Year's Eve!!!

Hi there! You unzip the dgvoodoo2, take only the four .dll files from MS\x86 and through them in your TR Chronicles instrallation folder.
You don't even need the dgvoodoocpl.exe in the TR folder as you can select the running instance (the TR installation folder) in the first field of dgvoodoo.

it is not working to me.
- downloaded the latest version of dgvoodoo 2
- put all files of the zip (like 3Dfx, Cpl, Doc, exe) in the MSx86 folder, that is also in the zip
- put the MSx86 folder in the TR Chronicles folder in steamapps
- here I open the dgvoodoocpl exe and choose the options like you suggestet
- I open the TR 5 setup and there is no Wrapper, just the usual setup

Did I forget something?
