1dm= 10sm
1m = 10dm\100sm
1km = 1000m
And now compare with
1 foot = 12 inches
1 yard = 3 feet or 36 inches
1 mile = 1,760 yards
It's obvious that it's more convenient and understandable ...
If you don't be biased for the reason "I was taught this way from childhood."

Ok... and how much is that in the Metric System? Yes, because not all of us use the weird measure system used by you English speakers (I'm Brazilian).
