Each symbol next to Sarin in The Whale is indicating a specific ship has had its control room door powered on, or in the case of Centre of Brunswick, whether you have entered into the room, since it starts out unlocked.
Green indicates that the control room door is currently powered, red indicates that the door is currently not powered.
This guide can easily show you which one you're missing, if you pulled out the power cell to use it somewhere other than the control room door, or if you just haven't solved it yet.

top left: Centre of Brunswick

top right: The Dunboyne

middle left: Trellick's Pillar

middle right: Rowley's Way

bottom left: Balfron Connection

If you take out the power cell to open the door to the bridge, the light will be red. If you want it green, you need to leave the power cell in.

I have the Balfron Connection achievement, but the light still red...

There's no mechanical benefit to having all the lights green. Just if you want them all green. :)

Thanks! I was trying just about anything to get them all green (but only within The Whale. D'uh!)
But in an attempt to learn more within some of the ships, sometimes I didn't leave the doors "plugged in", so not all all now display as green (though I have all the messages, and a certain Whale door has opened, offering goodies.)
Is there any need or point to me going back and turning on the juice in all 6 of the ships?

Do you have both power cells plugged in to open the bridge door? If you take out the power cells, the lights turn back to red.

for whatever reason, the Shadow of Naeve's light never turned green for me, despite getting the achievement, audio log, and being given full access to the Whale.
