Step 1 - Get Creative

Personalize your Character and Skateboard to your liking.

Step 2 - Learn the Controls

Learn all of the controls through the tutorial.

(I suggest getting used to turning with triggers instead of the left joystick, but you can use the joysticks and triggers at the same time to turn tighter corners.)

Step 3 - Get Use to the Game

Skate around any map to get use to controls and feel of the game.

Step 4 - Experiment

Experiment with different joystick positions when doing Flip Tricks, Grinding, and Grabs to see what happens.

Step 5 - Multiplayer

Jump onto a Multiplayer Lobby or two or three, and skate and have fun with other skaters.

Step 6 - Have Fun

Try tons of different lines, Chain different tricks together, Ride around with others, Hit spot and lines together, try out some mods, and many, many other fun things to enjoy.

Seriously try using left trigger and push left and right stick to the left at same time or try with the right, you'll notice it intensifies your turn and makes it sharper. I would add to this guide after opening steam today, MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP AND OLDER VERSION OF THE GAME, MODS ARE RUINED IAMCRY

Vert and Bowl skating makes sense, but you usually lean to steer on flat land and street skating. Although, you do make an excellent point

#2 is touchy, the turning looks so much more real/natural if you use the sticks and it's a lot better for subtle adjustments. I always have used triggers, but recently realized combining stick with trigger, particularly when trying to turn around on vert/bowls it is much easier to get a full turn. And that's WITH "Reduce stick turning" checked in Misc. settings of XXL3 mod
