Foreword about spoilers
As mentioned, this guide will be going over getting all 20 Phasmalist Souls, as well as other Phasmalism stuff. Some of the locations are connected to the main quest, alongside some side content. I will not be spoiling anything other than the names of the quests and screenshots with the souls locations.

It is also important to mention that some of the Souls are found in locations that cannot be accessed after a quest at that location is finished. These quests are Deus Ex Machina, The Lion's Den and Dark Chambers of Our Mind.
Phasmalism Basics 101
Phasmalism allows you to summon Apparitions from Souls found around the world in battle. These essentially serve the role of followers from Skyrim as far as combat is concerned and there are 20 of them you can gain in total. The Phasmalist skill tree also has perks effecting enchanting.

To get started with the Phasmalist class you will need a couple things from said skill tree.

The first talent of the skill tree is called Net of Souls. This will allow you to see and collect Souls. Be aware that higher level Souls will reqiure you to invest more Memory Points into the Net of Souls talent.

I will also mention that the Net of Souls isn't that well explained in-game and many players struggle with figuring out how to actually find the Souls. The answer is the whispers you may have noticed in certain locations. These mean that a Soul is nearby and it's time to use your Net of Souls talent. They are often located on dead skeletons, but it is not always the case.

The second skill called Soul Smith - Novice. This will allow you to take a collected Soul and bind it to a talisman at a Phasmalist Workbench, however only for level 1 Souls. Getting the other tiers of Soul Smith further down the tree will allow you to craft higher level talismans.

The third skill you will need is Summon Apparition. This is what allows you to actually take the crafted talismans and summon the Souls to fight at your side.

Crafting Talismans
To craft a talisman from a Soul you found, you will need access to a Phasmalist Workbench. These are quite rare and hidden away from public, seeing as Phasmalism is forbidden in Enderal.

A Phasmalist Workbench can be found in:
  • Riverville, Unmarked House
  • Cellar of Yero's House
  • Ark, Undercity Barracks
  • Duneville, high above the town on Maxus Tabbacus's platform
  • Player home in Ark, Nobles Quarters (Can be either placed manually or acquired via the furnishing feature)
  • Dal'Mercer's Estate
  • Castle Bleakstar
  • Rhalâta Temple
  • Castle Dal'Galar, Research Room

After finding a Workbench, you will need to have all the ingredients (mentioned in the previous section) ready, as well as have the appropriate tier of Soul Smith when crafting higher level talismans.

And lastly you need to meet the required level in Enchanting, depending on the Souls level.

This table shows which tier of Soul Smith and which level in Enchanting is needed:

Summoning and Using Apparitions
With your talisman finally crafted, all that's left to do is to summon your Apparition. For this you will need the Summon Apparition talent unlocked. Now just make sure you have a talisman equipped and use the talent.

Some notes about using Phasmalism:
  • You cannot summon Apparitions in towns and cities without having the Phasmalic Veil memory.
  • When your Apparition is banished (it dies in battle, you unequip the talisman, you entered a city) your Arcane Fever will increase.
  • You can give your Apparitions better gear or spells via the Workbench, however this will cost either Bone Meal or Ectoplasm.

Last but not least, we have Combat Styles which allow you to choose how each Apparition will behave in battle. Choosing a style heavily depends on the strengths your Apparition has (i.e. One-Handed, Marksman, etc.)

You can choose from these 5 styles:
  • Offensive: Melee weapons only, prefers attacking instead of blocking. If the Apparition doesn't have a weapon it will stay with its fists raised and do nothing.
  • Defensive: Melee weapons only, prefers blocking instead of attacking. If the Apparition doesn't have a weapon it will stay with its fists raised and do nothing.
  • Ranged Preferred: Uses bows whilst having arrows left, uses melee when it runs out of arrows.
  • Magic Preferred: Uses magic, when out of magic uses staves if equipped, otherwise uses melee weapons. Needs a spammable offensive spell to use magic (like Death Spark).
  • Balanced: Uses best tools available, preferrs attacking over blocking. When choosing between melee, ranged and magic, it will use the one it considers to be the best.
Sources and Afterword
Whilst this guide was written by me, the vast majority of the information (as well as the in-game screenshots) were taken from the Phasmalism wiki page[en.wiki.sureai.net].

I would recommend visiting the page as it goes into some more detail, especially when equipment is considered.

I have also used the Interactive Map[sureai.net] created by SureAI to show where the different locations are on the map.

This guide took quite some time to make, and whilst I tried my best to keep everything error free, it is very possible I have made some mistakes. If you notice any, or if you think certain parts should be explained better/differently let me know in the comments.

As with my first guide, huge thanks goes to the people at SureAI for making this game and to the people behind the wiki.

Thank you so much for the guide! I find in some caves I can't summon my apparition, or if they were already summoned outside the cave, they don't follow me in. I'm not sure if there are more rules than the city/settlement rule? I haven't really seen anyone else with this problem (and it's only a problem because the cave in question has some hella strong ice wraiths and I need someone to distract them!).

100% Agree with the below comments. Enderal is fantastic - but there is a lack of instruction on a lot of the new systems and mechanics. Great guide :)

Thanks for all your work. IMO It would be extremely helpful to have this information as an in game guide. A how to book for purchase or put somewhere to be found etc... In fact I think this game lacks basic how to information in game. I have been disappointed to be forced to go looking on the internet for basic game mechanics information after spending far to long in game trying to figure out these new magic systems.

Thank you for the guide! :)
It's the first very detailed and helpful information about phasmalism that I've found so far. :D
Maybe I'll try it out in the future. :)
