Additionally, even if her team does play to the strengths of Sage's utility in slowing down pushes and puts two other defenders on site with her, she is a waste of an agent because a sentinel should typically be strengthening the weak site of a map. Killjoy and Cypher are much better choices because they can consistently watch flank, convert their utility into kills more consistently on defense and postplant, and they can strengthen the weak side of a map much more effectively.

In addition, Sage is not a viable sentinel on Bind (not including professional play) due to the map objectives on Bind. On Bind defense, the objective is to maintain control of one lane of a site to retake from. For example, if the enemy team pushes B, it is extremely beneficial to maintain control of hookah or long/octagon in order to avoid retaking from CT, which is extremely difficult to do. Sage's utility only provides value in slowing down pushes, and a determined enemy team will easily break through her wall and take control of the area she is attempting to hold. Even if she does maintain control of one lane, she has no utility to help her team retake site with, and the time that she bought with her utility will be of no avail, as her teammates will still have to attempt to retake from CT, since enemies will have site control.

Sage doesn't work a sentinel because she doesn't have any util to watch flank passively. All the other sentinels in the game have some form of utility that will watch flank for them. For example, Cypher has a camera and a trip, and Killjoy has an alarmbot and a turret. Even Chamber, considered by most to be a pseudo-duelist and not a sentinel in the "true" sense, has a trip that can watch flank. In this respect, Deadlock also fits in this trip-lacking sentinel subclass, as her sonic sensors are trash and you can't reasonably expect them to watch flank.
