Introduction
This achievement is easy, but it can be messed up with the simplest of mistakes. This guide is to help those who are having a hard time with this achievement or need that extra boost to get them through. Even though this guide can help those in need, the overall skill of the player is required to make it through.

I will be playing as a Noise Tank. This is only because I enjoy the Noise Tank character, in the actual scenario I choose Beat or Tab.
Overall Achievement FAQ
This section is to give quick information about the achievement and what can mess it up.

FAQ:
>"Latching" is when the Police or Golden Rhino henchmen jump at you and hang on to the player.
>You can take all damage, but due to speculation that bumping into the Chief or taking fire damage counts as latching, try to avoid all damage (except falling). I can say from my personal experience that being lit on fire did not prevent me from the achievement.
>YOU MUST PERFORM THIS ACHIEVEMENT ON A NEW STORY FILE.
>Since Rival's (I believe anyway) are considered 'first try' as well, skip any rival challenge except Combo and Cube. I received the achievement without obtaining any other members outside of Cube and Combo.
>This achievement is not just about completing the level without being grabbed, IT MUST BE DONE ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT AT A LEVEL.
>Exiting the game from the in-game menu, whether being latched or not, still affects the achievement and disables it as 'first time.' You can, however, end the game via forced closing in the task manager and it will still count (tested this myself).
<><>Update 01/20/2025: You can return to garage (base) and try again. Closing the game is still a guaranteed means of making sure the achievement works and can be done anytime you are latched, but if you return to base directly after you can try the mission again. First level attempt may not be needed, or the first completion of a level must be done without a latch, but doesn't hurt to be safe. --Thank you Androt for this info.
>Playing a character with good spray-can storage and memorized graffiti patterns is vital to accomplishing this achievement.
>It is not recommended to shoot for other achievements while attempting this achievement. Attempt either Detached or All Jet, never both.
>Points are not important when attempting this achievement: take the time to complete this achievement instead of try to rush through, but make sure it is within the set time limit on the first try.
>Pressing the 'Graffiti Button' while spraying a Large or Xtra Large graffiti will allow you to drop from the process. Remember this if being chased by enemies threatening to latch onto you.
>Tag the Reds Arrows only. Don't go out of your way to tag a Green Arrow.

Final words on the FAQ to those who aren't interested in seeing a proper way to accomplishing maps:
Despite 'speed' not being important, being stationary is extremely fatal. You need to finish the 'large' and 'xtra large' graffiti first. That way you can escape the level's thugs without getting latched onto. Finish the larger graffiti before spraying the smalls.
Shibuya GG Guide
This level is pretty straight foward and easy to not get latched on, but precautions must be taken, even if it's easy.
Start this level by going around and collecting all cans. Be sure to smack the Love Shockers for 3 cans. This is helpful because they are possitioned infront of the large graffiti and the single xtra large graffiti.

Once your stocked, begin by spraying the large graffiti at ground level on the buses.

After you spray the first two, a notice will come about you and the other skaters being in the area. After the next spray the police will appear.

Make your way to the small sprays in the north-eastern side of the map.

Best way to move in this moment is to go on the rail and spray as you go by, keeping you moble and away from police.

After spraying the next two, your spray total is 5. After the 6th the Chief of the task force will appear. He isn't so much of a problem as much as his gun is, but in this level he is no problem.

While on the rail for the north-eastern smalls, jump to the left and make your way to the western smalls on ground level. These are the last two smalls of the level, as well as the last of actual danger.

Just run by them and spray.

The last of the graffiti is located on the elevated platforms on the far western side of the map. Make your way there and spray away to wrap this level up.

That's one level done, but its just the beginning of the long road ahead.
Monsters of Kogane Guide
Monsters of Kogane has a really high latching threat, due to the dogs that appear, but this can be taken away by taking care of all large and xtra large graffiti.

All the graffiti is condensed in a single area, leaving no need to focus on the lower part of the map.

The level lacks cans, but there are enough to finish the level before they respawn.
Start by climbing the stairs and turning around. Wall ride on the wall located on the left to the other side of the gap.
Follow the trail of cans on the roofs by jumping on the car and collecting all cans on the roofs.

Jump up to the main area through the gap provided on the roof. DO NOT SPRAY ANY OF THE SMALLER SPRAYS.

Head left to see a Poison Jam member spraying at the wall. Smack him for his 5 cans and spray where he was spraying. Go around the corner to the left and smack both of the PJ members. This is because after the second spray the thugs disappear and despawn, meaning no cans. Follow up by spraying the xtra large on the right. Keep following the lap by moving around the xtra large graffiti wall and round the next corner. There will be a large graffiti as soon as you turn the corner.

After graffiti 3 is sprayed the police dogs will appear. These dogs are in large packs and only know how to latch.

Now that all the large sprays are finished, begin spraying the smaller sprays. You will want to spray as many as you can in order to make the dogs despawn. This removes the latching by replacing it with a rocket launching helecopter. This can best be done by making a counter-clockwise lap around the map, spraying all graffiti.

Once all the small sprays are sprayed, you got one more map under your belt.
Benten Boogie Guide
Start by grinding the air-condition vent located infront of you for cans. Continue on it, jump over and smack the Noise Tank located at an xtra large graffiti for 10 spray cans. DON'T SPRAY THE XTRA LARGE.

Begin by spraying the xtra large graffiti at ground level behind you.

Head left and grind the air-condition vent that curves up, be sure to stop yourself from falling off by doing a quick turn around at rail dismount. Proceed to smacking that noise tank across from you and steal his 10 cans.

Jump down and continue to the northern section of the map. After smacking another Noise Tank, spray his spray. The police are coming after the next spray.

Before you spray away, move to where the ground level xtra large graffiti was. You can perform a single lap and get all the smalls with ease.

This is where you should be when you finish the lap. There is one small graffiti that is located on the curved air-condition vent previously mentioned.

While staying on the roof, move over to the next graffiti that is on the roof. This is where we will tag the small, after tagging the large.

Jump across from the freshly sprayed large to get to the small at the curved without going to the ground. Spray the small by jumping on the air-condiion vent and grind it back up to the roof. Don't forget to stop yourself from falling off. The police will release a swat team with tear-gas, all latching is now disabled.

Jump across to the large on the roof area previously jumped off of. Do a lap around the roof and spray all sprays available.

After getting the large sprays on the roof, continue the lap and jump off to the streets. You are looking for a line of yellow cans leading into a staircase in the wall. Follow the stairs up to the large located at the top.

Once the top is sprayed, grind the air-condintion vent all the way down. You will end up where you started. Repeat the start and spray the xtra large located on the roof area.

Another level down!
Love Trap Guide
Start the level by turning around and climbing the stairs. Skip any green arrows and red you see while collecting cans in the park. You'll need at least 18 for the upcoming sprays.

You can tag the Chief,so go for it if safe to do so. He will get in the way for a spray later on in the park. Otherwise proceed to the first spray locations on the main street. Some Love Shockers are present if you need a few more cans.

Keep in mind that once you approach the Large graffiti spots, you will have police bikes riding down the side walk to hit you. It is best to trigger their approach by skating up to the spot and then skating away. If they do not trigger, try spraying and releasing the spot in order to make them spawn. Avoid them to prevent any chance of failure.

Continue down the street with this state of mind. Tag each of the Large graffiti with caution, but the XL graffiti won't have any bikes. Once completed, drop down back into the sewers and climb the stairs. Proceed to the park to spray the last Large graffiti on the map.

The Chief will shoot at you while you spray if you haven't dealt with him first, so keep this in mind while attempting. Once you do finish it reinforcements will spawn. Proceed to tagging all the Small graffiti locations in the park.

For the remaining 3 XL Graffiti you will need 21 cans total. Naturally if you don't have that max capacity you will have to brave the tear gas and collect more. Keep in mind that the tear gas shouldn't cause a failure, but the potential for bumping into the swat members will. The only cops capable of attaching themselves to you are located on the main street, at the 4-way intersection they have blocked off. There are no cans in that general area, so it is best to stay away and collect all the cans you need in and around the park.

Complete the lone XL Graffiti before grinding/skating up the crane to the final two. The cops there will shoot tear gas at you the entire time, with the exception of the lone XL Graffiti, so keep an eye on your Health. It doesn't deal much damage but those numbers add up over time.

Finally approach the crane and grind/skate across. With this you will have access to the final two XL Graffiti, leaving any cops out of range to touch you, but still at risk of being gassed. There should be no need to watch the health bar if you collected the HP Cans along the length of the crane.

With the final XL Graffiti sprays you will have finished the stage and move that much closer to successfully obtaining the achievement.
Chapter 2 Guide (Tag or Die / Rock N' Roll Grind)
Hopefully you passed the rival challenge and all previous levels leading up to this moment. In my honest opinion, getting pass the Cube and Combo challenge is the hardest part of the entire playthrough because of how easy it is to mess up. More Cube than Combo.

Moving on to Grind City, we are now on Chapter 2's Tag or Die level. The important thing to note here is that there are two specific Large tags located infront of the stores that can be difficult to tag up. Remember that you can press the spray button in the middle of spraying to stop and run. We arn't here for points, we are here for the achievement.

This area is thankfully condensed in an easy fasion. The Smalls are located in the north while all the Large and Xtra Large are spread out on the roofs. The exception are the two Large tags located on the front. I recommend stocking up on cans (which are located on the billboard jumps at the start and the skate park behind) and taking out the front two first. These are the most challenging and more Golden Rhino appear as you tag spots.

Jumping in between the large brick building and the shops on the far side of the map can help you in tagging the two Large infront of the shops. Before you tag, you will alert all (or the ones outside) of the Golden Rhino. There are some outside and inside of the brick building. This is good because you can gain their attention, lure them to the stairs where you can escape. They will be on the opposite side as you run to the other side where you jumped to begin with. This can help minimize the risk of latching, but overall just tag them as fast as you can.

These are the only two tags that play a huge risk in latching. This is because the Golden Rhino are stationed everywhere around these two tags and will jump the first chance their AI gives them. Go for these first, then move to the roofs where you started and tag them.

Begin by tagging all of the graffiti located on the roof, then proceed into the brick building (either by front door [risky] or by billboard jumping [safer]). Be sure you are stocked up before attempting.

Once reaching the third floor of the brick building, jump off onto the subway tracks. Jump over to the graffiti on the opposite roofs and tag them (do this before the xtra large on the subway tracks).

Tag all of the tags here. Once tagged, Assassin 5 will appear. He doesn't latch, but he can ruin your achievement progress by whipping you down and letting the lesser GR grab you.

Before finishing make sure you get this tag done as well. Then progress to the smalls located in the back of the map in the skate park.

You can get all of them at once, but we all mess up sometimes. Just take your time and don't get caught. Get all of these tags completed and you are one level ahead in the progress.

The next level Rock N' Roll Grind is fairly 'latch free.' The only exception are the lesser Golden Rhinos located on the ground. There is but a single large graffiti that needs to be tagged at ground level. Make it your first priority. The level sometimes despawns the lesser golden rhino's when the helicopter's spawn, but due to risk of them not despawning its best to get rid of the single ground level Large.

After completing these two levels you are ready for the final three levels that involve latching.
Explosions Guide
Moving on into Chapter 3, we come back to Tokyo-To for the final time in tagging. These upcoming missions have you tagging the entire map while dodging the Golden Rhino and their assassins.

First we have the most annoying of levels: Shibuya-Cho.

This level involves the entire area, and the Assassin for this mission latches onto you, meaning this level is the most dangerous. In order to avoid any latching, focus on all large and xtra large graffiti first. DO NOT TAG ANY SMALL! SAVE THOSE FOR LAST!

Start by tagging the large tag in the playground, then move on to the hillside road map after. We will come back for the other large and xtra large as we move to the bus terminal.

All the Large and Xtra Large are located at the base of the hill inside the city. Tag them up but be careful for bombs.

After tagging them, run back to the playground area and head to the large / xtra large remaining there. We are then going to move to the bus terminal.

The roof tags arn't important right now, focus on the busses. Once completed, then go to them. This is because as soon as the last bus is tagged, the assassins will come and will be always present.

Not going to screenshot it, but rush through the remaining smalls located all around the map. Do this and your golden.

This level is in my opinion the worst one in terms of latching that you will face from here on out. Taking care of it early will help you.

Next stop: Kogane-Cho
Fight or Flight Guide
This next level is semi-latch free, but there is still the problem. The best thing to do in this situation is to avoid it and make it last, this reduces all chance of being latched onto.

This level is fairly simple enough, but the jetpack gunners are annoying. My method of completion is to ride the roof down, tagging all the red arrows along the way, skipping the large located on the statue near the wall you break to go into the residential district. Tag the residential district while avoiding the Golden Rhino. Once all the tags are made, the jetpack assassins will come. They only do gun fire so just keep your health up.

As you can see, I left this statue for last on account of the fact you can be sniped by the sniper on the roof and latched onto by the henchmen coming at you while you get to your feet. Finish the level however you want, but I highly recommend leaving this statue for last.

OMG WE ARE ALMOST THERE :D ONE LEVEL LEFT.... by latching standards.
Benten Burning Guide
Like Fight or Flight, this level has a fairly lowered latch rate, however the level does begin with latchers. Once they are dispose of and replaced with flamethrowin pyros, we in the clear.

The map is easily navigated but covered in henchmen, start this level by collecting the cans and dealing with the single xtra large on the shopping district you start in. This is the highest level of latch you will face for this level.

After collecting the cans on the rails, jump on the white vans to get away from the henchmen. They will offer the best way to escape with their large, flat roofs. This is because the Golden Rhino henchmen automatically have you in their sights. If you don't escape, you can kiss the achievement good-bye. After escaping and reversing back through the crowded street, start by going left. This is because the AI for the henchmen is path-following. They will go where you previously went. The big guy won't bother you until you until the henchmen tell him to. After you spray the xtra large, follow the road out (you will see a blue rail with healing cans). Make your way back down the street and bust through the boards at the end to reach the Event Plaza.

Stay on the top and tag the large and xtra large located at the top. After tagging the xtra large and large, tag the two small statues located in the center of the plaza. You will then run down the subway tunnel.

Follow the track LEFT (because going right exits the level which means failure). After avoiding all the trains you will find yourself in the streeted area where you fought the noise tanks (not sure what the actual district name is).

There arn't any latchers here and once you tag enough the flamethrowin pyro assassins will come out.
*editted*
Apparently the flamethrower assassins have the ability to latch, so proceed with caution!

Just complete this level, the unmasked Poison Jam, and the final match and you have unlocked the detatched achievement!

After Combo gives the final words of the story just before the GG member you used for the final battle skates around the bus terminal and the ending credits begin to roll, you should see the achievement pop-up. If you don't, you may have done something wrong and need to restart.

I just got the achievement on steam. I can confirm that the following actions did NOT prevent me from getting the achievement:

getting shot by guns fired by the golden rhino henchmen
getting lit on fire by the flame thrower guys
bumping into rival gangs when tagging their backs
getting hit by cars
taking falling damage
OoThatGuyoO  [autor] 20 ian. la 6:39
Interesting to know (after all these years lol). Prior research had people hinting that it had to be completed the first time only so took precautions just in case. Shame we can't reset achievements (I think?) for further testing, but it is what it is.

Thanks for the heads up @Androt

You can just return to the garage after being touched and restart the level. It also works (that's how I got this one)

Nah just answering what I can, didn't even realize it was 10 years

Brother wrote this guide 10 years ago and is still answering people, mvp.

In my playthough I ended up bumping into Onishima, taking fire damage a lot and still got the achievement in the end so... whatever

Would highly recommend playing Tab throughout as he can hold 30 cans.

Thanks for the guide! I can confirm that if you get latched, pause the game, and then force-close it using Task Manager, it won't void the achievement.

Thanks @OoThatGuyoO, just got the achievement! You were correct in they did not count. :steamhappy:
OoThatGuyoO  [autor] 12 ian. 2024 la 14:22
@Timelessabyss Missiles shouldn't count. That's just direct damage from guns. But hey, never hurts to do the force/close. Missiles shouldn't be a problem
Timelessabyss 12 ian. 2024 la 13:13
What if you're hit by a Helicopter missile, does that count as being "Latched"? Just asking since I know a Helicopter can not physically latch onto a character, i'm just checking where the line ends for what accidental damage passes for this achievement.
