L4D2 Dead Space Sound Conversion Pack 2.0 (WIP)

Contains only the sounds and currently replacing only some ambiance, UI and music.


Since Steam won't allow large file sizes, link is provided below. Do not use the workshop's download function as it contains nothing useful:

Remove the spaces near the slashes and the "(dot)"-parts.


(This tutorial is from my first mod, I'm not sure if it's completely up to date and will work since I haven't screwed with my current game files yet, but I don't think anything has changed)

!!!!!!!VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!
Make a back-up of everything the mod will replace if you do not want to redownload them. The mod required the game files to be directly replaced as opposed to how the Workshop handles it. Due to the way the game won't allow audio to go past the length of the original audio files, and because of how I want my vision for this mod to work properly without some stupid abrupt cuts, this is the only way to go forward.

1. Drag and drop the modded "sound" folder on top of the original sound folder within l4d2 folder.
2. Once it asks you to replace the files, hit yes to all.
3. Delete modelsounds.cache and sound.cache from left4dead2 and "left4dead2/sound" folders.
4. Launch the game
5. The first things you notice are the broken menu sounds and stuff like that. To fix this, run the console and type in "snd_rebuildaudiocache". This will fix also the screeching sounds in the game. The process takes 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the speed of your hard-drive or if you own a solid state drive.

I suggest setting the game to windowed mode, so that you will be able to use your computer, while it rebuilds the audio cache. The game will freeze as a result of running the command and you are unable to ALT+TAB when frozen in full screen mode.

6. Once it is done, the console says that it has finished the process along with a ton of other messages.
7. Run "snd_updateaudiocache". Mine took only 8 seconds to complete.
8. Once you have activated the two commands, type in "exit" to the command prompt. This will exit the game. Next time you run the game, the sounds will work properly without screeching.


I won't take any requests. Comments asking to fix my old mods for L4D2 will be ignored. If I'm going to do anything for them, I will make completely new addons.
