How to gets mods running through Steam and tracks hours easily
By Primal Pain
This simple guide will give you the easiest way to get your mods running and track hours on Steam without the need of any extra software other than your mods and source port.

NOTE: I made this guide before the whole DOOM + DOOM II thing released so it assumes you own the old DOOM 2 game which you can't buy anymore. I'm pretty sure it still works with the re-release though just do what it says and remember to launch through dos and yeah whatever bye.

Step 1. Get your source port into the game files
I would recommend GZDoom for heavy modding of the game.
If you want an experience as close to vanilla classic doom as possible, use PrBoom or Chocolate Doom instead.

All you need to do is copy and paste all the source ports files into the base folder, and rename the executable to dosbox. Delete default dosbox.
Step 2. Throw your mods into the Doom 2 folder
This place right here, i'm sure you recognize it.

Step 3. Do a little editing
You want to edit either the doom 2 + mouse or doom 2 batch files, depending on which one you want to launch. In most cases, you want the doom 2 + mouse batch file.
Once you're in the editor, the default code is something like this
.\base\dosbox -conf .\base\doom2m.conf -fullscreen -exit

Remove everything, leave the .\base\dosbox part

Now, I wanted to run Eviternity.wad and Project Brutality 3.0 both at once through Steam.
What you need to do is simply write -file and then just enter the names and file formats of your mods, and save. Then launch through Steam and it should work.

So, since I wanted to run both Eviternity and Project Brutality 3.0, I entered this:

.\base\dosbox -file Eviternity.wad Project_Brutality-master.zip

Then just save and launch.

Remember to choose to launch the dos version of the game when launching through Steam.

Note: this might not work with all mods. For example, mods that can't be installed with a simple drag and drop are likely not going to work with this. Also, if the WAD you want to play is located in a zip folder, unpack the zip file and copy paste the wad into the doom 2 folder.

Final words
Hello, I apologize if someone already has made a guide for this, I just figured i'd put it together quickly to help out some people who were asking.

Enjoy your demon slaying!

you go to the dosbox folder in the game files and throw the gzdoom shiits in there and delete dosbox and rename gzdoom.exe to dosbox and boom

Thanks for the great guide! I used it and worked perfectly but unfortunately the steam overlay isn't working and I can't take screenshots. Is it just me or is there another workaround on top of this guide?
