This guide only explains how to get the 15 acheivements that show up on your Steam Profile.
If you are looking for detailed explanations and strategy on the sub-goals that unlock items within Risk of Rain, please see another Steam Guide or the Risk of Rain Wikia.
  • You may find that some acheivements are easier to unlock than others. And that's fine. You may need to unlock more items before completing acheivements that require a lot of something or just story progression.
  • Please note that you can unlock all items and characters for further use on Drizzle (Easy) unless otherwise stated. You cannot find Monster Logs on Drizzle!
  • Easy acheivements are listed first, with increasing difficulty as you go down the list.
Identification Key:
Skill-Based Acheivement

Luck-Based Acheivement

No icon: Normal unlock or something you'll get if you just keep playing
Lizard Bait

You can easily find and defeat 20 Lemurians in the first or second levels, especially with the teleporter events!
This is hardly a challenge!
The Lone Survivor

Just get the timer to go up to 40 minutes. You can get this through playing - like most people. Technically, you could just go afk after the teleporter event, so I'm not even going to give this a difficulty rating. Just make sure your computer's not set to hibernate or sleep before that 40 or so minutes is up!
Sole Survivor

Die 50 times. Wow, if you didn't get this already you probably ragequit.
Alright if you're really impatient (and I can see why - the unlock lets you revive once), I'll tell you a strategy.
  • Go afk on the first level. Actually, just wait for an enemy to appear. Do absolutely nothing. Repeat. Profit. No healing drones. No health regen. 10% laziness, 90% farming.
Great way to die late-game aswell.
Night Night

This is really easy. Try this with one of the 1st Level bosses. You need the bandit who has this "LIghts Out" ability.
  • Make sure you've enabled viewing damage. That way you can guess when is a good time to stop spamming your vanilla and more powerful attacks.
  • Once you've got a boss down to less than a thousand (1000) HP, you should consider using the bandit's "Lights Out."
  • You're almost guaranteed that will be the finishing blow. If not, wait for your cooldown and use "Lights Out" again, until the boss goes down.
Master Hunter

You will probably acheive this by beating the 1st level a few times.
  • Basically you just need to defeat the Wandering Vagrant, Magma Worm, and Colossus
I'll give you a few tips on defeating these with the Commando, which you will probably be stuck doing at some point during your playthroughs of Risk of Rain:

Wandering Vagrant (Not limited by obstacles; flying)
  • Attack until it starts spinning on top of you.
  • Once it releases some orbs, you should be running (tactical dive really helps here).
  • Keep dodging the projectiles and attack any other time.

Magma Worm (Not limited by obstacles; segmented)
  • Avoid entry (denoted by yellow, upward arrow from the ground) and exit points. There will be a pool of fire that ignites the ground.
  • The only part of the worm that seems to do damage is the head, so once it descends, start moving or Tactical Dive away.
  • Keep attacking while the worm is going upward.
  • Any damage to the segments helps take the whole monster down.

Colossus (Earthbound; summons minions)
  • The only things that will really hurt you are tight spaces and the minions.
  • Stay away from the Colossus' body. It can do high damage by stomping and clapping its hands while summoning. If it spawns near you, Tactical Dive away!
  • Try and find a nearby ledge that you can shoot it from...Easiest boss besides Ancient Wisp and Toxic Beast - who are also stuck to whatever flat surface they spawn on (can't jump onto ledges or climb)
Better Luck Next Time / Lucky Devil
Fail a shrine 3 times in a row.

  • Any kind of shrine counts, whether you pay HP or money.
  • Keep in mind the basic shrines can take your money untile they dispense a total of 2 items.
  • The shrines on the Temple level dispense 2 identical items at a time up to 2 times (a total of 4 items).
  • I would suggest farming money on the first level and restarting if you "succeed" a shrine before your 3rd fail. Honestly, any level is fair game though. Often, you can pay a lot of money to one shrine - after your first "win" - and not win anything. This is what you are aiming for.

"Pass" or win an item at a shrine 4 times in a row
Use a similar strategy as Better Luck Next Time, only you should:
  • Try a shrine until you get something. Immediately quit.
  • Go to a different shrine. Hopefully you will get something right away. Move to the next one.
Keep doing this until the acheivement unlocks.
Finders Keepers / You Won't Regret It

The Bloated Survivor is found on the bottom right of Hive Cluster Level.
  • Usually the 4th level you encounter or you teleported to Magma Barracks instead (don't worry, just do another playthrough, or when you reach the Temple teleporter - after the event - choose to replay previous levels. You will randomly cycle through previous levels.
  • You will need to "click" on the debris in the specified area to activate the acheivement.
  • Please note that if you teleported to the bottom right of that map, the Bloated Survivor will not appear. You will need to re-access that map and try again.

  • You will need to reach the final level (press the appropriate button from the Temple teleporter).
  • In one of the upper-left rooms is an off-texture, grayish crate among the boxes. Interact with that crate to unlock the acheivement and the HAN-D playable char.
Seasoned Wanderer

Defeat a specific monster on Rainstorm or Monsoon difficulty.
  • Remember, you can only get that monster's Monster Log. These are all random, rare drops.
  • After, you must target other creatures for their Monster Log. Most all monsters can drop one.
Sample:
Diamond Casket

You must earn 20,000 gold on one level (your money doesn't carry over).
This is best done on the Final Level, as there are many monsters and a lot of loot available.
Helpful items:
  • Life Savings (piggy bank icon) (passive)
  • Smart Shopper (small purse icon) (passive)
  • Pillaged Gold (an unlockable via the Bandit) (sack of gold icon) ("Use" item with cooldown)
Don't Mind if I Do

On the Temple Level and also the Final Level, you can find a golden chest or two.
Now these are hard to open by accident - as they cost $3000+.
Just "Use" your Explorer/Skeleton Key if a Golden Chest is on-screen (in-view).
Unfortunately, you will need to obtain an Explorer's/Skeleton Key on or before those levels.
  • The easiest way to get this is to get a 56-Leaf Clover (unlocked after defeating the Scavenger) and farming for items on the final stage.
  • Explorer's Key can be a terrible waste of space travelling between levels, so if you get stuck with it, use it! Even wait for the cooldown, and save your money for shrines instead.
  • Save your money for roulette choices or mystery shop items if you're having trouble finding an Explorer's Key.
Endless Voyager

This requires both luck and skill. You must reach the final level - which can contain keycards. You must also defeat The Scavenger - doing so will grant you access to the 56-Leaf Clover (increases tough enemies' item drop rates).
  • During a subsequent playthrough, look for 56-Leaf Clover.
  • Once you reach the final level, check all rooms for those money containers that resemble trash cans (not the "cabins" that require keycards to access). Any gold ones will contain ONE Keycard.
  • Just spend a lot of time on the final level, as you will encounter many touch enemies with a chance to drop the rest of the 4 keycards you need.
Sleepin' With The...

Basically, you need to knock 20 shell-shaped creatures off the map in Sunken / Underwater Catacombs. The bottom-left of the map will do. It will be the 3rd or 4th Level you will encounter - if at all. Just re-play as necessary. Beware as the longer the time you spend waiting for Whorls to spawn, the tougher they will get (and other enemies).
To do this you will need:
  • The Enforcer (Shield Slam)
  • HAN-D (FORCED REASSEMBLY)
  • Boxing Gloves (item) (optional) (better chance of knockback) (can be used on other characters)
Either of those abilities will work fine. They both have great knockback. Personally, I would recommend the Enforcer, as his ability has more knockback (what you need) and less damage (what you DON'T need).
Macho

Although you need to have a good set of items, you will notice you still need to spend a bit of time in one sitting to improve your chance of getting them.
Here are some key features to keep in mind:
  • [THIS ACHEIVEMENT IS KNOWN TO BE BUGGY. IF ONE METHOD DOESN'T WORK, JUST KEEP TRYING ANOTHER!]
  • What level you are
  • How much damage you deal
  • Enemy armor (damage reduction and how long it lasts!)
  • What items increase your damage amount
  • What factors increase your critical hit chance
  • How much HP your enemies have (minor concern when you complete everything else)

One of the easiest ways to acheive this is by unlocking the Sniper and his Telescopic Sight item (1-shot kill 10 enemies consecutively).
Alternatively, you can use a Gold-Plated Bomb at 10,000 gold.....
Add Life-Savings, Golden Gun and Smart Shopper to that.
  • Other useful items: Lost Doll + Bitter Root + crowbar (Massive Damage), Lens-Maker's Glasses (increased Crit Chance), Hit List (increased damage amount if you knock out the marked targets), Golden Gun (increased damage)
  • ...and so on
  • You can replay previous levels to farm items and experience, but ultimately, you will need survive and keep fighting tough enemies. Since high HP bosses and elite enemies spawn frequently on the Final Level, you will probably get your acheivement then, but don't quote me on that.

Don't Mind If I Do doesn't seem to be bugged entirely, as I just got it. It might be just a glitch that it won't give it to you everytime.

I have every achievement other than "Die 50 Times" and I can never play/die again because then the feat becomes less impressive...
