The Challenge

The wording on this can be a bit confusing, but it's pretty straight forward. Riposte a monster three times and kill it without getting hit, simple right?

To highlight something, AND KILL IT is very important, it must killed by YOU, not anyone else. I recommend finishing the monster off with Blessed Blade, preferably with the talent that gives you a follow-up hit.

Also, the 'without getting hit' does not include the hit taken to perform a Riposte, more on that later.
The Riposte
Let me preface this by saying that this must be done with the Bretonnian Longsword , and the reason why is because no other weapon can Riposte .

The Riposte is basically your heavy/charged attack of the Bretonnian Longsword, Kruber will bring the sword above his head in a sort-of combat stance unlike anything else in the game afaik.

This is the 'stance' described above, while in it you move very slowly but you automatically BLOCK and can also release it whenever you want. The heavy/charged attack must be held and not released to enter this 'stance' otherwise you will just perform a heavy attack.

For the Riposte to count as one as detailed in the challenge description all you need to do is block monster attacks while in this Riposte 'stance'. (Credit to Fluent in Degeneracy and Jugderoo Ω for confirmation!)

Extremely important
Knockback attacks COUNT as a riposte, as-in blocking a knockback attack while in the riposte 'stance' will count towards the challenge. TAKING DAMAGE however will void your attempt, you must not take damage from the boss, so bosses that deal chip damage (damage through block) mainly are out, more on this later.

My completion(s) of this challenge for reference or further testing
I successfully completed this achievement first on a Chaos Spawn; I charged my heavy, the spawn did his three hit slower combo, I Riposted after the last hit. That's 1. I dodged a knockback attack (not knowing if it would count, this was before my testing of it later). Spawn does the four hit fast combo, I riposte after the last hit. That's 2. Sadly i actually dont remember how i got the third riposte, I do know that it was NOT from a knockback attack, i dodged all of them in my fight including grapples, so it had to be from a three or four hit combo.

I then went back to the keep and didnt complete the run because I wanted to do more testing, which i did vs. Bodvar (and some Rat Ogres, Bile Trolls, n such).

My second completion was done on Bodvar, the boss of the War Camp mission. I basically stayed out of range of all of his attacks until he went into the center to make his speech. If you attack or approach him while he does this he will slam the ground or throw his axe at you, or uppercut swipe at you, it depends, its random but they all count. I would ready my riposte, shimmy up to him, get ground slammed backwards, shimmy up again then hit him, repeat three times boom easy.

As far as I know, Bodvar's charge also counts since it does knock you back and does no chip damage. I'd landed probably like 9 ripostes during the fight, most being from the slam, the first being from an axe swing, and one in the middle being from his charge.

Some things in my experiences may be redundant now as the guide has changed, but I am leaving them in for reference. i.e. me 'shimmying' up to the bosses after taking attacks to release the attack
Monsters To Fight
Pretty small section and pretty simple. + = good, - = bad, / = meh

Rat Ogre only has his ground pound attack that deals chip damage when you're RIGHT in front of him, you can easily dodge out of it, problem is that you're so slow while holding the riposte it may hit you anyway if you're too close. Otherwise his knockback swipe and triple combo count. +

Chaos Spawn only has one chip damage attack (unless you count the grapple) like the Rat Ogre, a ground pound attack that only happens if you are close to it, it can easily be dodged, so it's fairly easy to get this achievement on it. It has the three hit combo which is a bit slower then the four hit combo, being pretty fast, perform the riposte after the last hit in those two combos, or after getting knocked back by its swipe. Just don't confuse the swipe for the grapple, I do that a lot. +

Bodvar is probably the easiest to do this on, he has no chip damage moves, and if you feel uneasy just take the Bretonnian Sword and Shield (as a secondary, remember you need the Bretonnian Longsword for this) and block in a corner until he moves to the center for his speech. Get knocked back /w whatever move he uses, shimmy in to get knocked back again, repeat. +

Stormfiend is doable but the fire chip damage will make it tough. Honestly I'd say just stay behind him or on his flanks and wait until you get aggro, then he'll do a swipe, shimmy up, attack, repeat. The fire chip damage is hard to deal with since it comes out pretty fast, though side dodges before he attacks might get you through unscathed. /

Bile Troll does not work, the puke is easy to dodge, but the side axe swipe and overhead attack both deal chip damage, and those are half of his moveset. Unless you manage to only get hit by his swipe, good on you, but avoid the Bile Troll for this challenge unless you know, you want bragging rights or something. -

Skarrik I didnt fight him for this challenge but there's a lot of down time in this one and his huge delayed swipe does chip damage. I'm pretty sure all of his glaive attacks do chip damage, and his sword combos can't be punished since he'll just block everything with them. I haven't fought him in a while (been on hiatus since this update) but that's my take on it, avoid Skarrik. -

Halescourge All of his attacks do chip damage and can't be blocked. Just dont. -

Rasknitt & Deathrattler Just dont. -

Again, you must be the one to deal the killing blow, use Blessed Blade (preferably with the talent that gives you the second hit) to finish them off.
TL;DR
Heavy attack with the Bretonnian Longsword, hold the 'stance' until you take three hits from monsters.
Knockback attacks from Monsters do count, chip attacks (because they do damage) do not.
YOU need to be the one to land the killing blow, and you dont need to do it with a riposte.
Complete challenge on Rat Ogre, Chaos Spawn, or Bodvar.

Recommended completion on Bodvar, reasons why in Monsters To Fight
Speedrunning Against the Grain on recruit for guaranteed boss spawn is also doable.

And let me thank you the dear reader for looking at my first guide! Hopefully I can do more if others need help. If you yourself have done testing and think things need to change I will be happy to accommodate, just write your findings in the comments!
Changes Made To The Guide
Previously I had thought that you had to land an attack after taking a hit while in the Riposte stance, however this has been confirmed by others to not be the case, all you need to do is block attacks from monsters while in the Riposte 'stance' for it to count as a Riposte in the challenge description. As such everything related to my previous instructions on how to Riposte have been changed.

EDITs removed as the one about not having to attack after taking a hit was confirmed, the other about not having to kill the boss yourself is inconsequential, seeing as it's not too difficult to just finish the boss with your ult.

Seeing as how others have had the easiest time on Bodvar, the TL;DR recommendation has been updated.

The Guide will continue to be updated accordingly, thanks for all your help!

Thank you very much for the in-depth testing, I'll need to try again to complete this mission as I had literally completed it once against a Stormfiend but then my game crashed before I completed the mission so the completion wasn't saved and I haven't been able to recreate it since

Works well with the Minotaur's light attacks (if you have the dlc), riposte then step away and clear adds whilst staying close and finish off with Blessed Blade once its down to about one sixth of its total health. Also found it helped not to have your best melee weapons equipped on bots so they don't deal too much damage too quickly so that you can get the killing blow.

got this completely random on legend against a chaos spawn, doing what you would do. Guess I been lucky having bots on my team not killing it instantly.

Ended up doing it against Bodvar; as you said, it was super easy, since he has no attack that deal damage through your guard.

In the end I feel like the hardest part of this challenge is to deal the killing blow yourself. Even with how strong Blessed Blade is, that's what caused me to fail on the last 4 or 5 Rogers and Spawns I fought.

just don't take any bots have pushes or high dps cuz they will either take agro on themselves or straight oneeshot it.

lords also count you can easily do this in ''in to the nest''.

I actually completely forgot about the minotaur while making this lol. Probably wont be adding it to the guide though since its locked behind a DLC and sucks to fight anyway.
