There is a hidden ending in this game at chapter 6 in which the father of Joseph reveals his true feelings about his son Joseph. Of course this guide contains SPOILERS.



This alternate ending is confirmed for PS4 and PC version.

The developer David Wehle announced this secret ending in July 2017 on X (formerly Twitter):

There will be an incredibly hard to find secret ending in The First Tree. But knowing gamers, I bet it will be found in a day tops!

Despite the expectations of the devloper, it seems that it needed nearly 3 years that someone found it as it is nowhere reported in the internet beside the fact that they having a hard time finding it. So special thanks goes out to MistRiven719 for telling us about his discovery.

To be able to watch the alternate ending you have to collect every collectible similar to the Completionist achievement.

Consider looking into other guides to help you for the detailed positions if necessary. Don't leave a chapter too early or you won't be able to watch the alternate ending.

Arriving at the final chapter 6, go to the tent and follow the fox downhill to the lake. Turn left at the lake and DON'T follow the fox to the right.

You want to find the buried secret box with the shovel left of the lake following the red path:


As you reach this place with the shovel, just interact with it and enjoy the ending:


If you missed any star, an excavation item or secret item, this place will be empty like shown in this picture. You then can only watch the normal ending by following the fox to the tree:

Reaching the alternate end is approximately 20 seconds faster than the normal end and requires less skill to avoid the walking-trigger at the tree area.

Unfortunetaly the alternate ending is only suitable for 100% runs, not for any-% runs.
