A few tips. Craft things when you can, especially in the early chapters, and focus on the resource capacity upgrades first. You don't want to miss resources because you don't have the space. Luminosa is something you want to avoid crafting unless you have to. Leather is rare and you need most of the leather in the game to get all of the upgrades. The third attirail upgrade sounds nice but you don't need it, don't prioritise it.
For the Map, you rightly spoke about killing the two guards who speak about Arthur. However, there are two sets of guards who will speak about him, depending if you go left or right. If you go left, you can miss the guards with the Map all together (and hear the Arthur conversation from the left pair of guards).
So you need to go to the "far right," not the "far left," of that area to get to the right pair of guards.
Also, you can take out both using the Devorantis/rock combo (withiut alerting other guards) f you don't want to use Somnum.
I only crafted the luminosa when this guide told me too, which helped preserve the crafting materials. I highly recommend increasing the material capacity and the ability to craft on the go upgrades ASAP to cut down on the amount of materials being left behind as a result.
Happy cheevo hunting!
