How to scan stations 100%
By Nostromo
Scanning stations is extremely important in X-Rebirth. But it is time-consuming and frustrating, to say the least. This guide will keep those frustrations in check (i hope) and more importantly: the guide will learn you how to scan stations for the full 100%. Have fun!

How to point your orange indicator to subsections of a station....
Scanning stations is important. The main station itself is of minor importance but the subsections however are vital. You will need them for missions and for placing trades the correct way.

The scanning itself looks straightforward. Fly to the icons , and especially the "i"s, to reveal the name and properties of the subsection in question. If NO subsection is selected , but the station as a whole is selected, you will see a %... This percentage must read 100%. If it is NOT, a subsection is not correctly identified. But there are a lot of problems:
- the icons are extremely small
- the icons are somethimes difficult to find
- the icons somethimes dissapear and do not show up again
- it is difficult to know if a icon is scanned already or not... (If it is, the icon is brighter .... thnx to MCWopper)

If you use the station-scanner (enter - 1 -1), the process is somewhat better to control.
You have to fly close enough to the station for the scanner to work.
Grey areas are areas (subsections) that are NOT identified.
If the subsection is identified, the subsection will get a different color.
Try to color as much subsections as possible.

However: again there is a problem: some parts of the station are NOT subsections and will stay GREY forever. It becommes extremely difficult to find the last subsections of that station.

To find those last bits, do the following:
- go to the zone-map
- the station in question will be listed on the right with a % behind his name
- if this % is NOT 100%, you 've missed one or more subsections
- click the + in front of the station-name
- the list folds out into groups of subsections, again with % behind the names
- look always for lines where the % is NOT 100%
- drill down to the deepest level (no more +-signs)
- if you are at the deepest level, the 'details' button will be available... Click it
- You will see a button 'Plot course' -> Click it
- The map closes and your orange indicator will point to the subsystem in question. The "i" of that subsection will be lit.
- Fly to it until the subsection is recognised.
- Do this until al the subsections are identified and a full 100% is shown behind the stationname.
- Always identify other icons if you run into them... (landing pads, buy and sell points, missions etc...)

Hope this helps.... Have fun....
(sorry for my english)!
Synops input from members:
MCWopper:
- The "i" 's or other icons that are not discovered/scanned are less bright and transparent.
-pg- Zathman , Velrisias, Regale and Arrijk
- Some sections stay at 10% altough the whole section is coloured.
- Drones are definitely playing a rol in the scan.
- [Auteur] = So there IS a game-element here.
=MAG=ForcesOfOdin
- Discovered substations will highlight briefly from far away as there corresponding icon is clicked.
Darklord ,Fluffy and Jake9123
- If a polygon is between you and the "i" you will not see it.
- Some "i"s are placed so close to a section that they are extremely difficult to find.
- Too many 'targets' in the view
- [Auteur] = It seems that some substations do not show a "i" even if you are close and normaly should shee them. The URV's are examples of this. Not known if this is ment to be or that it is a bug. The only way to recognise the URV's (without additional hardware that is) , is with the procedure described in the guide.
Chemicalvamp
- Flying to close to another ship will throw scanmode "off".
OrionSnake
- A former 100% scanned station, dropped to 70%-scanned after loading the game....
gnccabe01
- Scanner range of the ship: 20K but we have to fly within 20-30 meters? (Good point 8-) )

Thanks to all!

Stations can drop to less than 100% scanned if its partially destroyed in an attack. Any rebuilt part will need to be scanned anew.

"Scanning stations is extremely important in X-Rebirth."
...Nope, they're definitely not :) The only time I had to scan a station was during plot. Otherwise, it's completly optional and the reward is somewhat unsatisfying - I only scan stations when side mission pays well for doing that, when I want to rob a station or when I simply visit that station a lot, and feel like getting the scan.

The problem I'm running into is some parts don't seem to have a plot course option. This station has one part and I can tell which one I'm misisng but it won't let me plot course to it and I can't find the I for it. Bleh.

Although you scan some stations they revert to not fully discovered so you can get repeated special station deals other than the first time you scan them. Not a bug.. lol

I have noticed that when you are missing the URV launchers on some station sections if you go back to the i icon it will bleep and you get the info. I dunno if its a bug but it happens when you scan an uprotected point and get bonus id's. The bonus sections URV's dont come up so hit those i points and you get your 100% scan

Thankyou very much. The final method using the 'plot course' was someone I didn't know :)
