Introduction
Cataclysm is a difficulty for players who have finished the gear grinding and looking for high-level challenges gameplay.
This guide highlight one to three builds on each career as recommendation for non-modified Cataclysm difficulty. These builds have good skill ceiling and strong to play with practice. For more builds, check out the last section with Ranalds Gift links.

Battle Wizard (Dagger/Fire Sword + Flamestorm Staff)
Talent
LVL 5
Temporary HP on Stagger talent is very viable with high stagger weapon. The first heavy attack of Dagger and Fire Sword have the same profile of shield bash, making them synergize greatly with it.
LVL 10
The core talent of these builds. Currently, Lingering Flame increase DoT tickrate by 100% but caps DoT stack at one, which synergize perfectly with Flamestorm as its DoT can only have 1 stack by default.
LVL 15
Enhanced Power boost your damage output of range weapons and DoT. And the main damage source of Sienna comes range & DoT.
LVL 20
Rechannel let you full charge your staff easily every time the horde wave shows up, provide great DPS boost and safety for Flamestorm.
LVL 25
Soot Shield gives you 24% damage reduction all the time since you can trigger it on a single target. You just need to apply DoT on it 3 times. It helps you tanking mobs hit and reduces the health lost from venting.
LVL 30
Burnout is the utility option in the row, since Battle Wizard career skill provides AoE stun. You delay your second career skill up to 10 sec, so don't instant double ult if you want to provide maximum crowd control. You can also use first ult to stun enemies so you can apply Flamestorm DoT safely, and then use second ult to retreat to safety.

Melee weapon





The main job of your melee weapon is to stagger horde/elites when necessary, generate THP and block. Most of your damage including armour damage on this build comes from Flamestorm and DoT of Flamestorm.

Dagger has better mobility and higher armour damage. However it generates THP slower than Fire Sword, has a narrower hitbox of heavy attack 1, and has weaker block. Choose it for fast pace super aggressive gameplay.

Fire Sword has a higher default block cost. Its heavy attack 1 comes out faster and can hit more enemies easier due to its hitbox. It does, however, an overall slower weapon than Dagger and doesn't really reward your positioning or headshot rate. Choose it for steady gameplay.

Range weapon

















With this build, Flamestorm is your main DPS weapon.
For horde, only use 1 full charged attack per wave, leave the rest so you and your team can generate THP from it.
For boss/patrol, use full charged attack on them for ~2 seconds to apply highest DoT level, and switch back to melee for stagger or defence or just slight more damage.

Flamestorm Staff has the second highest Lingering Flame DPS for Sienna, just behind Beam Staff left click, however unlike beam it can apply DoT to 50 units at the same time. With Lingering Flame it has good up front DPS and insane damage potential.
Due to high tick rate on charge attack, Hunter can be proced fairly easily. And since VT2 damage does not snapshot, it means when Hunter is activated, all Lingering Flame DoT including the one you applied before that will increase their damage for 10 second.

Necklace



















BCR is way superior to stamina if you have enough shield to perform push. Extra health is critical.
With high THP farm speed and high constant damage reduction from talent, Barkskin is very decent for tanking unavoidable damage. If you struggle with farming THP or hit trade a lot, use Boon of Shallya.

Charm















Concoction can fully recharge your career skill and boost your stagger power/all Lingering Flame DoT temporarily, provide some good damage and utility.

Trinket

















Crit chance provides more damage. Stamina regen provides more push to crowd control/survivability.
Due to the massive Monster health on Cataclysm, Sharpnel works best on monster burst down. It also the best option for Patrol kill if a team can focus their fire.

Melee weapon











With Bolt Staff build, the main job of your melee weapon is to regen THP and kill close horde. Leave the elites to your range weapon.

With this build, use your Bolt Staff on all elites/specials and long range horde. Use your fully charged bolt most of the time, only use left click spark attack when you need to finish off close range Assassin/Leech/Gas.

Bolt Staff is an amazing anti special/elite weapon. The fully charged bolt has very good damage, no fall off distance and go through shield. Battle Wizard in particular has some great synergy with it, thanks to her fast charge perk and Volcanic Force, providing you breakpoint to one shot almost everything with full charged Bolt and charge them very fast.

Breakpoints: 20% chaos, 20% infantry, Enhanced Power, BW passive 10% range bonus, Volcanic Force

The core talent of these builds. Both Beam and Coruscation staff get great value from increased DoT damage. Making you meltdown both horde & monster with ease. On Coruscation staff, although it reduces your left click shotgun blast damage, but the shotgun left click is still a good tool against close range Infantry/Berserker units.
LVL 15
Enhanced Power boost your damage output of range weapons and DoT. And the main damage source of Sienna comes range & DoT.
LVL 20
Unusually Calm provides the best venting ability in combat. Allow you to switch between melee and range often while still receive some vent bonus from Tranquility.
LVL 25
Soot Shield gives you 24% damage reduction all the time since you can trigger it on a single target. You just need to apply DoT on it 3 times. It helps you tanking mobs hit and reduces the health lost from venting.
LVL 30

Melee weapon
















With this build, the main job of your melee weapon is when you cannot use range weapon, switch to melee to apply DoT, stagger horde/elites, generate THP and block. Most of your damage including armour damage on this build comes from DoT.

Fire Sword is overall the best weapon for Famished Flame build. Its heavy attack generate tons of THP, apply DoT in a wide range and stagger tons units easily.
Although Dagger has similar function to Fire Sword, its heavy 1 attack apply weaker DoT and in a smaller range than Fire Sword, making Fire Sword a better option here.

Range weapon












With this build, range weapon should be your main DPS tool. Only switch to melee weapon when you cannot range due to either high heat or low THP.

Beam staff has the highest DoT DPS one Sienna. Your Blast attack can apply DoT in a wide range and doesn't need to charge. The left-click Beam mode has one of the highest monster damage in the game. Pinpoint accuracy also makes it a good special sniping tool.
For hordes, when you are on low heat, apply DoT and stagger them with Blast mode.
For elites, apply DoT with Blast and use your melee to stagger them.
For specials, use Snipe mode or just hold left click on them if they are far away/don't move.
For boss, left-click them with the Beam mode. Pay attention if you accidentally hit a teammate, your DoT damage will dropdown to initial.

Coruscation Staff is a close to medium specialty staff, with amazing horde clear and dealing with boss. Think it like a shotgun but also good at dealing monster damage.
While fighting horde, place multiple fire pits at the frontline, so you can apply high DoT on enemies and your team can keep them in place. Use left click primary attack to clear close to medium range enemies that pile up.
While kiting, place down multiple fire pits on enemies' pursuing paths.
While fighting monster, place down a fire pit under it, and try to kite it in place.

Beam Staff breakpoints: 10% skaven, 10% chaos, 10% infantry, 10% monster, Enhanced Power, BW passive 10% range bonus, Barrage
Two shot-bodyshot slave rat/fanatic with Blast
Three shot-bodyshot gor with Blast
Two shot-headshot or three shot-bodyshot all specials with Instant Snipe

Coruscation breakpoints: 10% skaven, 10% chaos, 20% infantry, Enhanced Power, BW passive 10% range bonus
Reduce the shotgun pellets needed to kill Mauler/Savage/Monk/Leech/Blight/Gas

Pyromancer does not have access to high melee elite killing power most of the time. Thus THP on cleave gives the more consistent regen for her.
LVL 10
With long heat bar and free cast from career skill, you can fairly easy to trigger Spirit-Casting on this build, providing more damage and trigger Hunter easier for better breakpoints. If you struggle to maintain high Temporary HP, use Martial Study instead.
LVL 15
Enhanced Power boost your damage output on all situations. It is also essential for some range weapon breakpoints.
LVL 20
On the Precipice provides extra range damage on high heat, making this build breakpoints much more consistent.
LVL 25
Unlike tooltip suggested, Soul Siphon can stack up to 3 times, providing 30% damage reduction from enemies and venting, which is very consistent on Cataclysm.
LVL 30
Provide you 12 seconds of free casting on demand, also increases bolt charge speed greatly, providing great utility and strong DPS burst.

Melee weapon




With Bolt Staff build, the main job of your melee weapon is to regen THP and kill close horde. Leave the elites to your range weapon.

Dagger packs multiple tools in its moveset. Its heavy attack 1 has the same AoE similar to a shield bash, a great tool for Pyromancer to get out of bad position, as her only stagger source is her career skill and it stops on armour target. Its heavy attack 2 has good armour damage. Light attack/push attack can increase your movement speed, helping you to reposition/dodge easily.
With this build you should use chain light attack headshot to kill horde, use heavy 1 occasionally to stagger unit, and use heavy 2 to kill elites.

1h Sword is Sienna's best horde clear weapon with good headshot/crit damage. The push attack/light attack 1/2 has good horde clear properties, heavy attacks have huge cleave and stagger ability, light attack 3 has ok armoured damage and easy headshot animation. The good attack speed and crit damage makes it a great tool to pair with Pyromancer's high crit chance and a staff that can snipe elites/specials.

Burning Flail has a great balance between stagger, cleave, horde, elites. Its heavy 1 attack has very high stagger, a great tool for Pyromancer to get out of bad position, as her only stagger source is her career skill and it stops on armour target.

Range weapon

















With this build, use your Bolt Staff on all elites/specials and long range horde. Use your fully charged bolt most of the time, only use left click spark attack when you need to finish off close range Assassin/Leech/Gas, or to trigger Hunter before fighting the horde with melee.

Bolt Staff is an amazing anti special/elite weapon. The fully charged bolt has very good damage, no fall off distance and go through shield. Current patch Pyromancer has some great talents to go with Bolt Staff, making a range focus Bolt build very viable. Try to stay above 75% heat to trigger On the Precipice for better breakpoints, and use Dissipating Rictus when there are multiple high threat elites/specials presented on the field or when fighting boss.

Breakpoints: 10% skaven, 10% chaos, 10% berserker, 10% armour, Enhanced Power, Pyro 10% range damage perk, On the Precipice, Hunter

LVL 5
Pyromancer does not have access to high melee elite killing power most of the time. Thus THP on cleave gives the more consistent regen for her.
LVL 10
Ride the Fire Wind provides average 12.5% extra damage on range weapon. A consistent talent for range weapons that spam a lot and doesn't heavily rely on breakpoints.
LVL 15
With Fireball/Beam Staff build, most of the armour damage is coming from your melee. Smiter provide a flat 20% increase melee damage on the unit you hit, making it super efficient on boosting melee elites killing power.
LVL 20
Deathly-Dissipation gives you a huge amount of burst damage/control after killing a special. Both Fireball and Beam Staff melts close range infantry specials plus you have Burning Head to secure a long-range kill. Fitting the heavy range play style best.
LVL 20
Unlike tooltip suggested, Soul Siphon can stack up to 3 times, providing 30% damage reduction from enemies and venting, which is very consistent on Cataclysm.
LVL 30
Help you vent heat and taking damage. Giving you the most controllable resource.

Melee weapon








With this build, the main job of your melee weapon is to regen THP, kill some strafing trash unit, and kill close armoured elite when your teammates can't deal with them for you.

Dagger packs multiple tools in its moveset. Its heavy attack 1 has the same AoE similar to a shield bash, a great tool for Pyromancer to get out of bad position, as her only stagger source is her career skill and it stops on armour target. Its heavy attack 2 has good armour damage. Light attack/push attack can increase your movement speed, helping you to reposition/dodge easily.
With this build you should use chain light attack headshot to kill horde, use heavy 1 occasionally to stagger unit, and use heavy 2 to kill elites.

Mace has good balance between crowd control and elites damage. Its heavy sweep attacks have very high stagger and decent horde clear. The light and heavy overhead attacks provide some of the best anti armour damage among Sienna's melee weapons.

Range weapon









With this build, your staff is your main DPS tool. Only switch to melee weapon when you are facing enemies that your staff cannot kill efficiently.

For Fireball, use quick charged attack for horde/monster, full charged attack on single armour target/armorued specials/hook rat, left click for Leech/Blight/Gas. Switch to melee for armoured elites.
Fireball staff provides the all around DPS on Cataclysm. It destroys horde and has massive Monster damage. The only downside is that it generates a huge amount of heat, but Bonded Flame + Deathly Dissipation gives you a lot free cast to use and THP to ventilate with.
Barrage increases your fireball DoT, damage, cleave and stagger. Best option for a fireball spam build.

For Beam, use blast attack for high density horde, and snipe attack for specials. Switch to melee for super armour elites and monster.
Beam Staff has extremely high uptime on Pyromancer, as Pyromancer can trigger Heat Sink very consistently on top of THP generation from career skill. Beam Staff can also kill specials consistently to trigger Deathly Dissipation for even more range spam.

Fireball breakpoints: 10% skaven, 10% chaos, 20% infantry, Pyro 10% range damage perk Barrage

Proxy provides more potion efficiency since a team should play very tight on Cataclysm difficulty. Also, two people on potion effect can get out of emergency situations more easily.

Due to the massive Monster health on Cataclysm, Sharpnel works best on monster burst down. It also the best option for Patrol kill if a team can focus their fire.
Pyromancer (Dagger/Flail/Mace + Coruscation Staff)

One with the Flame is the only melee damage boosting talent in this row, and Coruscation Staff does not benefit from other talents from this row very much with this build.
LVL 25
Unlike tooltip suggested, Soul Siphon can stack up to 3 times, providing 30% damage reduction from enemies and venting, which is very consistent on Cataclysm.
LVL 30
Providing all the resource you need to cast Coruscation Staff on this build, allowing you to get to high heat without worrying blowing up, and also a great burst damage tool on high density Mauler/Savage/Monk wave with your shotgun attack.

Melee weapon




With this build, the main job of your melee weapon is not only your anti armour tool, but also main DPS source once you reach high heat and lay down enough firepit.

Dagger packs multiple tools in its moveset. Its heavy attack 2 has good armour damage. Light attack/push attack can increase your movement speed, helping you to reposition/dodge easily.

Depends on your melee weapon, choose different talent.
Mace/Flail: THP on cleave gives the more consistent regen. Mace has insane cleave after you reach high heat, making it a more consistent option. Plus you can farm THP on single target, like Monster/Lord.
Reaper: Reaper special attack has great stagger potential and cover a huge area, synergize greatly with temporary HP on Stagger talent.
LVL 10
Increase both your melee DPS and speed of beam shotgun/coruscation staff shotgun attacks.
LVL 15
Enhanced Power boost your damage output in all situations, most consistent talent on this row.
LVL 20
Conduit gives you the best control on overcharge. You can either choose stay high heat for melee damage, or play more range focused with the less venting damage effect, and quickly get away from dangerous heat level when taking bunch of damage.
LVL 25
Increase both your range sustain and tankiness. Allows you to trade your ult cooldown for more heat for range damage sometimes.
LVL 30
Best option in the row. Providing great sustain to your whole team. Especially valuable in this patch due to the nerf on THP.

Melee weapon



With this build, the main job of your melee weapon is not only your anti armour tool, but also main DPS source once you reach high heat.

Ensorcelled Reaper is the only Sienna two-handed weapon. It has base slow speed in general but provide great stagger from heavy and special attack, which can be boosted even further by Unchain passive, and the slow speed can me solved with her talent and tankiness. Utilize the AoE high stagger special attack to help yon control multiple elites/high density horde and start your slow combos.

Mace has good balance between crowd control and elites damage. It is the highest elites damage weapon on Unchained. All its horizontal attacks have good cleave, light attack 1/2 have good elites damage and stagger, and its heavy attack has insane super armour damage. Downside is its moveability is not the best, and require stamina to enable horde clear combo, requiring players to position well.

Burning Flail has a great balance between stagger, cleave, horde, elites. The heavy overhead attack can stagger CW overhead on Cataclysm with enough passive stacks and applying AoE explosion to multiple enemies, making it very efficient in high density situations.

Range weapon & Charm - Beam Staff






Use your range weapon when you are at low heat, enemies are pilled up, killing specials, creating space.

Beam Staff has fairly low damage output on Unchained. The special breakpoints are not great, but you can still kill them quickly with instant snipe. And chain blast can raise your heat bar quickly to give you high melee damage, also clearing trash units to give you more room to focus on elites.

Range weapon & Charm - Coruscation Staff






With this build, use shotgun attack for high density horde, and/or put down firepit then melee when you reach high heat. Melee is also superior for armoured elites and monster, but firepit from coruscation should also be applied at the same time.

Coruscation has great damage output for all types of enemies in the game. Your shotgun is the best way to clear infantry/berserker enemies, and firepit is a good tool to help you with armorued enemies and monster. Only downside is it cannot deal with long range specials well enough.

Breakpoints: 10% skaven, 10% chaos, 10% berserker, 10% infantry, Enhanced Power
Reduce the shotgun pellets needed to kill Mauler/Savage/Monk/Leech/Blight/Gas

Range weapon & Charm - Bolt Staff





With this build, use your Bolt Staff on all specials and long range horde. Use your fully charged bolt most of the time, only use left click spark attack when you need to finish off close range Assassin/Leech/Gas, or to trigger Hunter before fighting the horde with melee.

Bolt Staff is an amazing anti special weapon. The fully charged bolt has very good damage, no fall off distance and go through shield. Unfortunately on Cataclysm, Unchained does not have a lot range buff to reach elites breakpoints on bolt, but it is still great at killing specials and proc Hunter for more melee damage.

Necklace



















BCR is way superior to stamina if you have enough stamina shield to perform pushes. Extra health is critical.
With high THP farm speed and high HP pool, Barkskin is very decent for melee-heavy front liner. If you struggle with farming THP or hit trade a lot, use Boon of Shallya.

Trinket

















Crit chance provides more damage. Stamina regen provides more push to crowd control/survivability.
Due to the massive Monster health on Cataclysm, Shrapnel works best on monster burst down. It also the best option for Patrol kill if a team can focus their fire.
Necromancer (Sword/Dagger/Flail + Soulstealer Staff)
Talent
LVL 5
Necromancer does not have access to high melee elite killing power most of the time. Thus THP on cleave gives the more consistent regen for her.
LVL 10
Soulstealer Staff Soul Rip attack charge speed is affected by attack speed, and high attack speed provides higher crit per sec for your melee weapons to trigger Cursed Blood, making this talent overall the best option.
LVL 15
Enhanced Power boost your damage output on all situations. It is also essential for some range weapon breakpoints.
LVL 20
With attack speed from Vanhel's Danse Macabre and DoT apply from Barrow Blades, you can trigger explosion inside horde fairly often, greatly boost your DPS on high density situations.
LVL 25
Lost Souls provides enough THP that completely negate venting damage, allowing you to spam range attacks often without sacrifice your Skeletons.
LVL 30
Strong synergy with Cursed Blood. Helps you to apply DoT on enemies as none of your weapons for this build can apply DoT very fast.

Melee weapon










With Soulstealer build, the main job of your melee weapon is to regen THP and kill close horde. Leave the elites to your range weapon.

1h Sword is Sienna's best horde clear weapon with good headshot/crit damage. The push attack/light attack 1/2 has good horde clear properties, heavy attacks have huge cleave and stagger ability, light attack 3 has ok armoured damage and easy headshot animation. The good attack speed and crit damage makes it a great tool to pair with Cursed Blood and a staff that can snipe elites/specials.

Dagger can apply AoE DoT to horde enemies, and high attack speed allows for high crit per second to trigger Cursed Blood.
It also packs multiple tools in its moveset. Its heavy attack 1 has the same AoE similar to a shield bash, a great tool for Necromancer to get out of bad position, as her only stagger source is her career skill and it has long cooldown. Its heavy attack 2 has good armour damage. Light attack/push attack can increase your movement speed, helping you to reposition/dodge easily.
With this build you should use chain light attack headshot to kill horde, use heavy 1 occasionally to apply DoT to the horde if you don't have high enough skeleton uptime, and use heavy 2 to kill elites.

With this build, Soulstealer Staff is your main elites/specials/boss DPS weapon. Use your frontline and terrain as cover, focus on all tag-able units first. Only use melee when you cannot find high priority target anymore, or when you have to defend yourself/generate THP.

Soulstealer Staff has great breakpoints, allow you to oneshot all man-sized specials, SV/Bestigor, and combo kill rest of man-sized elites with one charge attack. However, its charge speed is fairly slow, and cannot instant kill certain enemies. So in order to compete with other range careers, player need to utilize its extreme long range and the ability to keep charging Soul Rip attack without enemy LoS, and remember to use Primary Attack to apply DoT first then charge your Soul Rip on certain enemies.

With this build, your range weapons already reaches all important breakpoints, making Smiter a better option for your melee single target damage.
LVL 20
All range options in this build can apply DoT easily and have fast enough attacks to crit often and trigger the explosion easily, a great DPS boost.
LVL 25
Lost Souls provides enough THP that completely negate venting damage, allowing you to spam range attacks often without sacrifice your Skeletons.
LVL 30
Depends on your playstyle, choose different talent.
Barrow Blades has strong synergy with Cursed Blood. Helps you to apply DoT, is the highest DPS option here.
Dread Seneschal it increases skeletons uptime and stagger ability, making them a steadier frontline.

Melee weapon








With this build, the main job of your melee weapon is to regen THP, kill some strafing trash unit, and kill close armoured elite when your teammates can't deal with them for you.

Dagger packs multiple tools in its moveset. Its heavy attack 1 has the same stagger power/range of shield bash, a great tool for Necromancer to get out of bad position, as her only stagger source is her career skill and it has long cooldown. Range weapon





With this build, your staff is your main DPS tool. Only switch to melee weapon when you are facing enemies that your staff cannot kill efficiently.

For Fireball, use quick charged attack for horde/monster, full charged attack on single armour target/armorued specials/hook rat, left click for Leech/Blight/Gas. Switch to melee for armoured elites.
FIreball staff provides the all around DPS on Cataclysm. It destroys horde and has massive Monster damage. The only downside is that it generates a huge amount of heat, but Lost Souls can completely negate that, plus you can also sacrifice your skeleton for that.
Barrage increases your fireball DoT, damage, cleave and stagger. Best option for a fireball spam build.

For Beam, use blast attack for high density horde, and snipe attack for specials. Switch to melee for super armour elites and monster.
Beam Staff has very good uptime and extremely high DPS on Necromancer thanks for Lost Soul and Death Ascendent. It also has the best synergy with Cursed Blood among all staff, as the blast attack can trigger it on every single target it hit.

For Coruscation, use shotgun attack for high density horde, or put down firepit then melee if you need to generate THP. Melee is also superior for armoured elites and monster, but firepit from coruscation should also be applied at the same time.

You can always give up defensive properties for more dmg. The reason bcr being standard is the DPS gain on 5% AS is really really small compare to the amount of defense you get with extra 30% bcr. The bcr can win you the game on bad situations, not the 5% AS.

Yeah, put beam on target and while holding beam, right click. It breaks the beam with a burst of damage and is the primary way to handle specials with Beam staff. You can either do them fast and tap them with multiple bursts done as quickly as possible, or spend time and hold the beam on a special and then burst.

These builds are for base game cata quickplay. For high winrate you would want to be able to handle everything solo unless it sacrifice too much of career's strength.

No scythe for Necro melee build sounds as good joke, but not really.
However, thanks, all builds are pretty handy (especially for lazy dudes like me). The only thing that upsets me is the lack of any determination of certain roles for each build (which imho is definitely needed (and which enhance immersion), cuz playing as a team of 4 universals seems very boring to me (and not really needed for Cata))

Pretty much. It's not a bad weapon, you can use it to beat cata maps pretty easily, but it enables your range options less than other melee. And since current necro meta is range spam, IMO it's worse than 1h options.
