What is an Early Access game?
Early access, also known as early funding, alpha-access, or paid-alpha, is a funding model in the video game industry by which consumers can purchase and play a game in the various pre-release development cycles, such as pre-alpha, alpha, and/or beta, while the developer is able to use those funds to continue further development on the game. Those that pay to participate typically help to debug the game, provide feedback and suggestions, and may have access to special materials in the game. The early-access approach is a common way to obtain funding for indie games, and may also be used along with other funding mechanisms, including crowdfunding. Many crowdfunding projects promise to offer access to alpha and/or beta versions of the game as development progresses; however, unlike some of these projects which solicit funds but do not yet have a playable game, all early access games offer an immediately playable version of the unfinished game to players.

How to fixes common issues in Early Access games
Important in an Early Access game:
After any update, remember to check the integrity of the files. And disable Steam Cloud.

Verify Integrity of Game Files
  1. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
  2. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files... button.
  3. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.

To disable Steam Cloud synchronization, follow the steps below:
  1. Open Steam and navigate to your Steam Library.
  2. Right-click on Outlaws of the Old West and select Properties.
  3. Select the Updates tab and uncheck the Enable Steam Cloud synchronization option.
  4. Click Close.
In many Early Access games often the problems come either from a corrupted file that is saved in the Steam Cloud and then causes problems.

What to do if I receive a Fatal Error message?
If you have experienced a fatal error please send us your crash dmp file.

You can find the folder with your crash dmp files here:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\CrashDumps

If you do not have any dmp files there, try searching for UE4 folders in:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Outlaws\Saved\Crashes

Attach them to an email and send it to outlawsupport@wanderingwizard.com. You will need to zip/compress if you are sending a folder.

Use the subject line "Fatal Error Crash Dmp".

How to move a Windows game window between monitors
On Windows 10

You can easily move a UWP game from one monitor to the other using the following key combination:

  • Hold down the Windows key and Shift, then press the Arrow keys.

Using these keys you can direct your window across to a second connected monitor, and if it's UWP, it will automatically scale to match the new display resolution. Sometimes you might have to use this key combo to circumvent issues that can arise when using a mouse to drag a game window to a second monitor.

Bear in mind that you might need to run the game in windowed mode to switch over to a second monitor using this method, which brings us to the next shortcut ...

Hello,

You said :

"Backup for Server

Go to \OutlawsServerFolder\Outlaws\Content and save *.osf files"

I own a server and I don't see any .osf files, only a "Paks" and "Splash" folders with a .pak file inside ... Is it the one to use for backup ?

Thanks :)
