I remember learning all of this when I was 12 years old 29 years ago . Awesome that you spent the time and energy to share all of this for the next generation of BUILD-ers. So many memories just sitting in this editor after. Worked in gamedev for 12 years because of this editor and game. Actually got to meet a few of the original devs along the way to. Wild to see that this community is still around.
I am curious. Do you remember any of the danzig / 'the rock' maps or did you play on TEN at all? I remember the repository by some guy names Lazer or Laser, lifetime ago.
For the other players in Dukematch, place a sprite and change its ID to 1405, one for each start position. The angle of the sprite determines the facing.
I believe it would require Megaton, yes.
Also, you can download other peoples maps and play them, and then you can look at them in Mapster to see how they did certain things. Back in the day I used to have a CD with 500 levels on it, you can get a lot of inspiration looking at what others have done. Play lots of user maps and you will see cool stuff.
You can look in to Shadow Warrior (I have a partial guide for that as well) which is a more advanced version of the Build engine, you can do some pretty neat things with that.
As far as what not to do, Mapster is a lot more forgiving than Build.exe, but it is still possible to have... unusual things happen. I encountered some such issues making the map that goes along with this guide. I recommend saving often and saving versions of maps you can roll back to whenever you build a new major piece, just in case.
Is there any other guide you recommend which can give even more ideas and maybe dos and don'ts ?
