Who This Guide Is Intended For {003}
This is a complete guide intended for advanced players; I have tried to be as concise as I could without leaving out vital information. You must have a basic understanding of the game, and hopefully you have started breaking the game mechanics down for yourself.

Please Take Time {004}
I have taken time to try and be very thorough throughout the guide. If you feel confused, or that there is a lack of information, perhaps read my Gameplay Guide before using this guide. [the link located at the bottom of this guide, or view my shared files]
If you think some information should be added or cross referenced, let me know.
If you have a question that wasn't covered in either of my guides, feel free to ask.
If I have overlooked something please take the time to let me know in the comments section at the end before giving me a negative rating. I will update the guide as needed and strive to be the top resource for all things SOTMC.

Simple Questions Answered
Simple Questions Answered {006}
The goal of the game is to collect all five (5) meteorite crystals.
Each crystal must be obtained by a level five (5) horse of the corresponding type, therefore:

The win condition of the game is:
Raise a level five (5) horse of each type and have them complete the quest for the crystal.

To level up a horse you must:
breed two (2) horses of the same level. The offspring will be one (1) level higher than the parents. [ie; [b]two (2)[/b] level one (1) horses will produce a level two (2) baby]

More questions are answered in this style throughout the guide and this section may be updated.

"Racing" refers to entering your horse in a competition. There are five competitions all referred to as races, each one corresponding to a couple of stats.
Your gate must be equal or higher level than the horse you want to enter in a competition.

Winning a Race {012}
Placing in an event grants your horse stat points in the corresponding stats.
Placing first awards you a trophy in the winning horses stable stall.
Placing first in all five (5) events awards you a gold bonus and the title of First Class Race Horse.

To successfully win a race
Acquire the maximum in the corresponding stats and pick a lucky clover (shown below)
There is no need for items, potions, or horseshoes unless you're having particularly bad luck.

Each event trophy will always appear in the same place on the shelf, this is not the same order the competitions appear in at the gate.

Clovers {013}
Clovers appear on your farm when there is no snow. They are sometimes difficult to spot, and disappear and reappear every few seconds. They will automatically boost your luck in the next race; the clover icon over the weather indicator shows you have a clover currently in effect. Notice that a clover still works if it is snowing.

The two pictures of the clover by the gate show the same clover charm as it animates.
Stable (Advanced Grooming and Colts)
When you purchase something in the shop, you aren't actually upgrading your stable. When you sell your horse all its belongings are taken with it.

Colt Shop Descriptions {015}

Demon-steed

of breeding this type of horse.

Grooming Techniques {016}
  • You only need to use one (1) brush on your horse, they all have the same effect.
  • When brushing your horse you don't need to actually brush, simply hovering over the correct part of the horse raises the bar at an equal rate. (indicated by green sparkles and the spirit bar flashing)
  • When leading your horse to water, you can click the water trough repeatedly to fully increase condition in one trip.

Optimum Training {019}
The minimum number of trainings to max a horses stats is six (6).
Optimally your horse will train three (3) Forest Courses and three (3) Obstacle Courses; if you receive at least one A on each course and a minimum of B on the rest of the attempts, your stats will be maxed.

It is easiest and most efficient to train one horse at a time simply returning to your stable using the grooming tricks to refresh your horse if they can't train.

TL;DR {020}
  • To max stats, train both the Forest Course and Obstacle course three times each.
    [Your stable must be equal or higher level than your horse]
Breeding
Breeding {021}
In order for a horse to be eligible to breed it must meet these conditions:
  • not be sick
  • have not previously produced offspring
  • all stats (except intelligence) must be completely trained
  • condition and spirit must both be near full
  • you must have free space in your stable
Horses must be the same level in order to produce the next level offspring.
It is possible for horses to have mixed race parents, however, later in the horses lineage it is possible for recessive genes to surface causing your horse baby to be an unexpected type of horse.

This is a written example to help explain:
As an example say you bred a level one (1) unicorn and a level one (1) demon-steed. They produced a level (2) demon-steed baby. You then raise a second demon steed to that level in hopes of breeding to produce a level three (3) demon-steed, however, their offspring is a level three (3) unicorn instead. This is because it's lineage is mixed.

It is therefore a better idea to keep your horses lineage pure after your first horse. This will prevent you from ending up with a horse of an unwanted type.
Making Gold
Rainbows {023}
Any time you see a rainbow icon on your weather indicator you can click on it for a quick and easy 100 gold. This is really only useful at the start of the game. It's up to you when it feels like more of a chore than a reward.

Quest Achievement Bonus {024}
The first time you complete each of the quests of a particular level, the people will reward you with a bonus gold gift of 500, 2000, 5000, 10000, and 20000.

First Class Race Horse {025}
For every horse that collects all five trophies you will be rewarded with the title of First Class Race Horse as well as a bonus gold reward.

Sickness Trick {026}
In my Gameplay Guide it states:
The cost of the medicine* is based on the level of illness, determined by which quest it got sick on. *table in "Quests"
It is possible to use this to your advantage while grinding quests for gold. Since a horse can still quest while it's sick, simply have it perform level one (1) quests until it falls ill. Then, have it perform as many higher level quests as you'd like; when you're done, the medicine will only cost fifty (50) gold. (the price of the level one (1) medicine)
Quests (and Sickness)
Selling your horse is always instant and awards more gold than a regular quest.

While questing in poor weather it is possible for you horse to fall ill.
At the barn, the cost of curing the illness is based on the level of the quest your horse got sick on.

Magic Crystal Quests {034}
The following quests will award you with one of the meteorite crystals. They take 240 seconds to complete.

Requires a level five (5) Demon-steed.
Realm of the Dead
There's a place in the Realm of the Dead where a crystal shines so brightly that even the dead cannot rest in peace. They'll give it to you if you have a horse that can travel to this world.

Requires a level five (5) Ice Steed.
Aurora

Requires a level five (5) Fire Steed.
Volcano
You have found out that one of the missing crystals is hidden at the bottom of a huge volcano. If you have the horse which is capable of withstanding heat, it'll bring you the crystal successfully.

Requires a level five (5) Pegasus.
City in the Sky
You have heard about a floating city in the clouds. You may find one of the missing crystals there.

Requires a level five (5) Unicorn.
Unfortunately, I didn't write this down as it was my very first level 5 horse and I can't find the quest data online. [Hilariously it's the only one not listed in the wiki.] You can't do it again without making another level five. I have a save from when I had a level three horse so I'll go back and do that later.
Potions
Potions {035}
Each page in your book must be purchased separately. Even after upgrading your barn, the new pages must then be "discovered" individually.

Potions are mostly entirely useless as they only affect your horse for one quest or race. That being said, you still accumulate ingredients with no other use. Quests have no requirement for statistics and a fully trained horse with a clover will come in first almost every time. Technically the "best" potion is page #26 as it provides a significant boost to all stats except stamina, and the highest boost to both strength and reflex.

Page #26 Calendula Rosa Canina Aesculus Hippocastanum You have found the recipie in a town buried in a remote desert. Strength 23 Speed 22 Stamina 0 Dexterity 21 Reflex 22 Intelligence 20

Horseshoes
Horseshoes {036}
Unlike potions, horseshoes last until you sell your horse.
The "best" horseshoe is page #22 boosting 4 stats significantly.

Nichelium Aurum Zmaragdi This recipe was discovered in a cave far far away in the north, where it was carved in a stone. Strength 0 Speed 18 Stamina 17 Dexterity 18 Reflex 16 Intelligence 0

Sylvanas 28 Aug, 2020 @ 2:41am
this helped us, thank you!
Fallowsthorn 27 Mar, 2020 @ 4:52pm
Also, the game occasionally let me breed a horse with, say, 196/200 Whatever as long as the other ones were full, which is a rather nice anti-frustration feature.
Fallowsthorn 27 Mar, 2020 @ 4:51pm
Note: as long as your corral level is equal to or higher than your horse level and you get mostly As, you can train the horse to max by doing one of each activity, so only four minigames instead of six.
Pippa 14 May, 2017 @ 7:24am
In 2017 it still helps me, kinda understand the game now. Thank you.
spacejumper  [author] 16 Nov, 2016 @ 9:21am
Yeah sorry I haven't updated in years because I just don't really care about this game... I've also been incredibly busy at work for just over a year. Some of my data is out of date now. Also I wasn't getting notifications that people were commenting! Thanks for all the kind words guys, I love how many people this has helped.
Joe Pesci 25 Feb, 2015 @ 8:38pm
The cost of upgrading buildings appears to be off. Also your quest prices and times (i think) are off. I love the guide though.
Joe Pesci 25 Feb, 2015 @ 5:03pm
bug: with insufficiant money, try and buy a fowl, click leave, and the 1200 coins box on the top right will remain. I did this with a fully upgraded stable but may work with a lower level stable.
Joe Pesci 25 Feb, 2015 @ 3:04pm
Another bug: The timer for the race startes after you click the checkmark regardless of the progress you watch. For example, do a gallop race, watch till it states your pony came in first, THEN click ok and the timer will start as if you did not even watch the race.
Joe Pesci 25 Feb, 2015 @ 2:17pm
These four stable items provide the most stats:

Gold (III) lamp +97 25+0+24+23+25=97
Dolomite (II) feeder +55 0+20+18+17+0=55
White Marble trough +96 19+19+19+20+19=96
Sycamore Wood bucket +79 20+20+20+0+19=79

This appears to give your pony:
64 Strength 25+0+19+20=64
59 Speed 0+20+19+20=59
81 Stamina 24+18+19+20=81
60 Dexterity 23+17+20+0
63 Reflex 25+0+19+19=63

There might be a different combination that is more balanced (less stamina and more dexterity); however, not other combination will provide as many overall stats. Adding horseshoes could also further complicate the exact optimal combination.

Feel free to use this information as you see fit. No credit desired.
