Welcome!

Greetings to you milord or milady! Thanks for taking a brief respite from your adventure in Sambria to visit my humble guide. I strive to provide useful guides, flavored with humor and wit, that give my fellow gamers that extra little tidbit of enjoyment from a game. I hope I can achieve that for Willy-Nilly Knights as well.

While I know you are here to find a worthwhile tip or trick, I hope you will stay for a few King Arthur jokes as well since you are here. You can find those jokes near the end of the guide. Kinda of like a big-box retail store... the stuff you really want to buy is at the back of the store so that you have to walk past all the other stuff to get to it.

Well you might as well start walking... I mean reading....

Note: This guide uses in-game screenshost to illustrate various tips and may contain minor spoilers.

Explore!
Yes I know... this is basically true for every role-playing game. You have to explore every nook and cranny if you want to find the hidden goodies. Think of this as merely a friendly reminder. There is no stealing in this game, so if it isn't nailed down it's yours for the taking!

Ladies First
Knights must be chivalrous, but in the case of facing fierce battles it is best if Arthur takes the lead. Guinevere should be protected as much as possible so that she can perform healing and ranged attacks in safety.

Use your surroundings to bottleneck the enemy to keep them from attacking Guinevere, as well as yourself. For example, using the dungeon corner (as shown above) reduces the attack area for the enemy, allowing only two spiders to attack Arthur instead of all three.

To be clear, there are times when I use Guinevere to lead the party so that I can specifically position her in the safest area before triggering a fight. In tight quarter's you can even use Guinevere's range attack to start the fight and get some free damage in.

In certain areas where there is limited maneuverability, like the swamp, you will want to lead with Arthur or Cedric so that Guinevere is not stuck at the front with no way for your warriors to move past her.

Come to Papa!
Depending on the lay of the land and the spacing of the enemy forces, it is best to sit tight for your opening move and let the enemy come to you. They will use up their action points reaching you and will not be able to attack, while you will have double action points to hammer away at their health on your next turn. Guinevere, situated safely behind you, can launch range attacks as the enemy approaches.

Often times you can force the enemy to navigate around an obstacle, like a rock, tree, or column, allowing you to initially fight only one opponent. It can be a life saver in battles where you would otherwise be the underdog.

Fight With Your Brain
You won't be able to win every fight when you are just starting out, so pick the battles that you have the best chance of winning. This way you can increase your experience and level without dying. You will often be presented with multiple paths that you can advance down, but not all of them have equal encounters. Be willing to seek out the next best fight for your level and party even if it is in another area of the world.

For example, you might be capable of defeating the three spiderlings guarding the entrance to the Spider Crypt, but not be ready to fight the "boss", as was my case. Head off to the Great Woods instead and pick on someone your own size until you have better odds.

You can use the map to show you enemy grouping and what creature is in each group. This will help you decide which route might be best for you to take. Hover over a red dot to see what creature it represents.

You can also right click on an enemy combatant to get detail on their stats. You might be able to find their weakness and determine the best approach to finishing them off quickly.

Once last thing about fighting with your brain, and this is based on a lot of fighting (my characters are level 15 now). The skills that do damage do not seem to be working correctly. Stun worked, but special skills did less damage than my normal attack and they cost more action points. I leveled them up but rarely used them. I hope your experience will be different, but if not just ignore the skills.
Spend Wisely, But Spend
There is no achievement for hoarding a pile of gold in Willy-Nilly Knight, like some games, so spend that gold. You won't be rich, but you will have enough gold to buy upgraded weapons and armor as well as some potions and scrolls. Merchants often only sell equipment for a certain class, thus you need to shop around to purchase items for each party member.

If you find yourself suddenly struggling to win a fight, you may want to check the shops for a better weapon or armor that you may have overlooked. The requirements for each item varies by class so check back after a character levels up.

Along these same lines, if you finish a battle that completes a quest, it is probably wise to head back to claim the reward before continuing to pick fights. That extra experience from completing the quest might be enough to level you up. You want the odds to always be in your favor so to speak! :D

I came up with all the jokes but 1, which inspired me to do the rest. I aggravated my daughter with them since I am her lame dad! Honestly I don't remember the level up stuff or gear available. Thanks for the feedback!

Did you come up with all the jokes? ;)

Also, it would have been nice if there were more details on level-up paths and gear selection...
