CURRENT STATUS
Hi everyone. I've played this game a lot between 2016-2018. It has received many changes the past few years and has been released as 1.0 as well (no longer Early Access as of 01/18/2023). From what I can gather from the developers and many user comments, the game is basically abandoned (not finished, buggy, won't be complete anymore).

Since so much has changed and there doesn't seem to be any hope for this to be finished (a story, no bugs, some content), I wont revisit the game for the time being.
STARTING A NEW GAME

1- What type of game should I play? Single Player? Multiplayer?

This depends on what you are looking for:
  • If you enjoy playing alone then pick Single Player.
  • If on the other hand you want to try this with friends then Multiplayer Private Universe (PvE) is the game for you.
  • Multiplayer Public Universe is a free for all, anything goes!
  • Please remember the multiplayer side of the game is still sometimes laggy and you might experience glitches when joining parties and entering/exiting worlds (or mines).
  • Also consider certain workarounds for certain bugs are only available for single player (like editing the player.txt file).

2- What is the best class? What class should I pick?

This also depends on what you want to focus on early in the game. Each class adds additional points to the skill it specializes in, as well as your startup bonus weapons & tools:

SCIENTIST
  • More science points.
  • Startup Bonus: Pickaxe + Tactical Knife.

RANGER
  • Balanced points on all 3 skills.
  • Startup Bonus: Bolt Rifle + Machete.

MARINE
  • More combat points.
  • Startup Bonus: Assault Rifle + Tactical Knife.

ENGINEER
  • More engineer points.
  • Startup Bonus: Pickaxe + Conduit Bender.

3- What are the other guns/tools?

All classes start with a default starting kit, which include:
  • a *Multi-Tool (allows to build and repair certain buildings/vehicles)
  • a *Locator (scanning/radar tool)
  • a Laser Pistol (basic laser cell gun)
  • a Chisel (standard mining tool)
*You can never lose or transfer these 2.

4- How do I invite my friends to join?

First off, inviting your friends to a game, depends on whether you are playing on a public or private server. So, if you’re playing on a private server, you can only invite people to join if you own the server. If the server is public however, let your friends know the server name and have them join.

Secondly, when using a private server, whether you have an existing character in a server or not can affect things as well. For both situations, please follow the steps below:

If you have a character in the server:
  • Go to the private universe character select screen.
  • Select the character who is assigned to the universe you would like to invite your friend to.
  • Click on the cog button next to the character's name and universe info.
  • Upon clicking the cog, the universe options panel should come up. If you own the universe, at the bottom of this panel there will be a button labeled ‘Invite Players’ which, upon clicking it, will open a new panel with your steam friends on the left and invited players on the right.
  • Find the friend you would like to invite from the list on the left. Click on their name.
  • Once you’ve clicked on the friend you would like to invite, a button labeled ‘+ Send Invite’ will highlight below your friends list. Click this button to invite your friend to your universe. They will then be able to join your universe. They may need to return to the main menu and then go back to their character list to see that they now have access.
  • Note: You can currently only invite 5 players to your universe. You will not be able to invite more than 5. You must first remove a player from the invited players list to invite a new player.

If you don’t have a character in the server:
  • Go to the private universe character select screen.
  • Click the ‘+’ Button next to the character list and go through the process of creating a character. This character is not relevant to inviting your friend to your universe. We must simply go through character creation in order to reach the private server list
  • Upon finishing the creation of your character, you will reach the private universe server list. Select the universe that you would like your friend to join.
  • Upon selecting this universe the ‘Customize’ button will become clickable. Click the ‘Customize’ button.
  • Once you’ve clicked the ‘Customize’ button, the universe options panel will appear. If you own the universe, at the bottom of this panel there will be a button labeled ‘Invite Players’ which, upon clicking it, will open a new panel with your steam friends on the left and invited players on the right.
  • Find the friend you would like to invite from the list on the left and click on their name.

5- How do I join my friends?

Joining your friends depends on whether you are playing on a public or private server.

If your friends are on a public server:
  • Simply create a public multiplayer character and choose their server.

If your friends are on a private server:
Your friend must first invite you to their private server. Once they have:
  • Go to the private universe character select screen.
  • Click the ‘+’ button next to the character list and go through the process of creating a character.
  • Upon finishing the creation of your character, you will reach the private universe server list.
  • Please select the universe which your friends invited you to.
  • Click the ‘Join’ button to assign your character to that server and join your friends.

6-How do I delete a private universe?

Deleting your private universe depends on whether or not you have an existing character in that universe.

If you have a character in the universe you want to delete:
  • Go to the private universe character select screen.
  • Select the character who is assigned to the universe you would like to delete.
  • Click on the cog icon next to the character's name and universe info.
  • Upon clicking the cog, the universe options panel should come up. If you own the universe, at the bottom of this panel there will be a button labeled ‘Delete’ which, upon clicking it, will lead you through deleting your universe.
  • If you do not own the universe in which the character is assigned, then the ‘Delete’ button will not appear and you will not be able to delete that universe.

If you do not currently have a character in the universe you want to delete:
  • Go to the private universe character select screen.
  • Click the ‘+’ button next to the character list, and go through the process of creating a character. This character is not relevant to deleting your universe. We must simply go through character creation in order to reach the private server list.
  • Upon finishing the creation of your character, you will reach the private universe server list. Please select the universe which you own and would like to delete.
  • Upon selecting this universe, the ‘Customize’ button should become clickable. Click the ‘Customize’ button.
  • Once you’ve clicked the ‘Customize’ button, the universe options panel will appear. If you own the universe, at the bottom of this panel there will be a button labeled ‘Delete’ which, upon clicking it, will lead you through deleting your universe. If you do not own the universe, then the ‘Delete’ button will not appear and you will not be able to delete that universe.

  • Structures and utilities appear orange (does not matter who owns them).
  • Base minerals appear as small blue diamonds.
  • Precious minerals appear as small red diamonds.

9- Game started and I can't move!
  • There is an in-game tutorial which starts as soon as you start a new game.
  • During this tutorial you are unable to perform most actions, so it is recommended that you follow the instructions on-screen.
  • Bonus technical tip: If you cannot even move your mouse, consider unplugging your HOTAS.
GAMEPLAY BASICS - PART 1

10- Just got out of the pod, no idea on where to go or what to do.
  • Remember that you are on a somewhat deserted alien planet, so make sure to keep in mind the basics first: food, water, shelter.
  • Make sure you also pick up everything you can, and if possible, harvest/recover materials from the ship you just crash-landed in.
  • You can also start following the initial missions if you want, but if you are new to the game, make sure to try to learn the game mechanics first before venturing too far. More on this below (Missions Section).

11- How do I mine/harvest food?
  • You can use your starting tools on pretty much anything for most of the basic harvesting/mining, as well as defend yourself if attacked.
  • Mineral nodes will provide basic materials for building.
  • Plants and trees will provide food and materials for crafting.
  • You can also use small rocks as tools or weapons. You will need to convert them to "Bashable Rocks" by you can hit TAB, and selecting "Primitive Crafting".
  • Make sure to use weapons for combat only, and tools for harvesting/mining only (except hybrid tools, these are exceptions).
  • This is because using a knife to mine will not give you as much minerals and the weapon will wear down a lot faster.
  • On the other hand, using a mining tool for defense will only do minimal damage to a monster.

12- I can't find any rocks!
  • Groups of rocks are usually spread around the map. They are smaller than metal nodes.
  • Make sure to look closely as some can be hard to find behind grass.
  • You can also equip your Locator to scan the area.

13- What are hybrid tools?
  • These are weapon/tool combinations that work for both combat and mining.
  • The effectiveness of each hybrid tool seems to depend on the tool itself (it seems each hybrid tool has a different ratio of combat/mining efficiency based on damage).
  • The hybrid tools include the Pickaxe, and the almighty Conduit Bender.

14- Is there any difference between using weapons/tools in 1st person or 3rd person?
  • Yes. When using melee combat weapons in 3rd person, as soon as you start swinging your avatar gets locked into a combat combo animation, which usually includes 3 chained moves.
  • When using melee combat weapons in 1st person you only swing your weapon forward, 1 swing at a time.
  • Mining in 3rd person has been proved to be at least x2 times faster than mining in 1st person (with mining tools only).
  • Swinging underwater is a lot slower, as expected.

15- I'm being attacked! What do I do?
  • Sometimes when you start mining/harvesting a few enemies will be triggered and start attacking you.
  • Most creatures will chase you for a while but you can outmaneuver them if you use your jetpack and run command in a smart way.
  • Once you break line of sight and get away from them, you will usually lose them.
  • If you do decide to fight, try to not take too many enemies at once or large enemies just yet.
  • Monsters will sometime drop raw alien meat after you kill them. You can throw this to other enemies to distract them while you run.

16- Suit Breached! What do I do?
  • Whenever your suit is ruptured you will need to patch it up with your Patching Tape.
  • If you do not patch your suit your oxygen will drop to zero and you will start taking damage.
  • You will also need to go into an oxygen-safe area to recover your oxygen if it drops to zero.
  • If your suit is breached and you have no Patching Tape, you are pretty much dead unless you can craft some Patching Tape before you die.
  • To craft Patching Tape you can look for Berries (blue type) and Cloth Bundles. Then hit TAB, select "Primitive Crafting" and craft.

17- What are Cloth Bundles?
  • These are cloth pieces that are manufactured on Earth.
  • They are usually found inside Reinforced Crates but can also be crafted.

18- What are Reinforced Crates? Where can I find them?
  • These are crated scaterred around Proteus II in specific locations.
  • They are usually near important landmark sites like Osiris Base 1 or inside Mines, but can sometimes be found out in the open.
  • They usually contain resources like steel or ingots, food like potatoes or half a glass of water, or building materials like cloth bundles or batteries.
  • You can sometimes find unusual items like steel barrels or even Diamond (very rarely).
GAMEPLAY BASICS - PART 2

19- I need water!
  • Clean fresh water is not easily found at the start of the game, except for a few jars near the crash site if you are lucky.
  • The next best thing is SAP from a SAP Tree.
  • To gather SAP you will need an empty glass jar. If you don't have one you can either look for one in a Reinforced Crate (like at Osiris Base 1) or craft one.
  • SAP trees are scattered around Proteus II and have orange-looking blobs coming out of them.
  • To get SAP, equip an empty glass jar on one of your slots, and "aim it" at an orange blob from a SAP Tree.
  • By pressing F you will fill up the glass, and can then proceed to drink from it.
  • You can also get water from lakes but this is dirty water. It will quench your thirst but hurt your health.
  • Later in the game you will get the option to purify dirty water at a Chem Station.
  • You will also be able to "craft" water on an empty glass jar when you start collecting Oxygen & Hydrogen.
  • A Water Reclaimer unit built inside a Habitat will also allow you to quench your thirst every few minutes.

20- I need food!
  • Food is easily found throughout the game. Almost anything is edible.
  • Most berries and plants are edible, eat away when needed.
  • Some types of food will both satisfy hunger and heal you, some will just do the former.
  • Uncooked alien raw meat and some plants will hurt your health but satisfy hunger.

21- I need healing! 8(
  • Some types of food will heal you. You can use this if you run out of bandages/medikits.
  • To craft basic bandages look for RedBerry Trees and BluePalm plants.
  • Collect the fruits of the former and the leaves of the latter.
  • Once you have these, hit TAB, open "Primitive Crafting" and craft Basic Bandages.
  • Regular Bandages heal for more than these Basic Bandages.
  • Medikits heal for a lot more than both.
  • You will be able to craft regular bandages and medikits further down the road at a 3D Printer or Fabricator.
  • You will also find these medical supplies in Mine: Magni.

22- I died. What now?
  • This is a normal part of the game. Sucks, but it is a way of making the game interesting/challenging.
  • When you die, you will respawn based on your last save-point/entry point.
  • You can still go back to where you died and retrieve a box with the items you had before dieing. Do notice you are on a timer so hurry.
  • If you quit the game or let the timer run out, the box and items will be lost forever. You'll have to make do with what you have.

23- This game is too hard! I'm dying too quickly/too often!
  • When creating a new game you can choose 3 standard difficulty levels, Easy, Normal and Extreme.
  • Remember this is a survival game and you are supposed to at least struggle a bit while you learn the ropes.
  • Also remember when learning the game you will most likely die a few times, specially to the Giant Worm :).
  • If the game is too hard you can learn from the experience or start a new game but on easier settings.
  • There are also experimental difficulties or modes: Creative so you can build anything you want, and Custom, which lets you customize every single detail of your game experience.

24- How do I save the game?
  • The game auto-saves to the cloud every few seconds.
  • If you quit the game this will also save the game.
  • You can also save the game on a Debris/Crab/Skeliopod hut or on a bed inside a habitat/barracks. This sets the respawn point to this entry.
  • Saving the game this way will also give you a bit of health.

25- What is the respawn point?
  • This is the point where you will reappear from if you die.
  • If you just entered the game from the Main Menu, space or a Mine, then die, the game will usually respawn you closest to the entry point (Mine Door for example).

CRAFTING/COLLECTING RESOURCES
46- What is the difference between Ingots and normal resources?
  • Ingots are refined pieces of metal molded into shapes that allow construction of more advanced stuff.
  • Some items in the game still require basic materials and not ingots (this is probably due to the game not being fully updated just yet) so keep this in mind when collecting and smelting resources.

47- I can't find X material?
  • Some resources are harder to find or are more rare than others.
  • Coral Branches for example are only found at the bottom of a few lakes.
  • Certain materials are currently only available on Aziel (another of Gliese's moons) and Zer.
For tips on how to mine underwater, please look at the video below.
https://youtu.be/GR6OIqVoCQs

48- How can I find Plutonium?

  • Through regular mining of Base Metal nodes (random chance to drop Plutonium as an extra resource, somewhat often).
  • Through regular mining of Plutonium nodes located inside Mine: Magni (random chance to spawn Plutonium nodes along your path to Queen Cleo's chamber as well as behind her).
  • Through node pickup from Mine: Baldur (random chance of Plutonium spawning inside Venting Crates, happens sometimes).
  • Through node pickup from Reinforced Crates near Osiris Base 1 (random chance of Plutonium spawning inside, happens sometimes).
  • Through regular mining of Plutonium Nodes located in Aziel (there are actually coordinates to these but by then you'd have a Spaceship as well).
  • Best advice here is to just keep mining Base Metal nodes until a few pieces come out. You will need the materials anyways.

49- How can I find Diamond?

  • Through regular mining of Precious Metal nodes (random chance to drop Diamond as an extra resource, not very often).
  • Through regular mining of Diamond nodes located inside Mine 1-A, Magni (random chance to spawn Diamond nodes behind or at the side of Queen Cleo). Pro Tip: you don't actually need to fight the Queen Boss, just the Young Snub and 2 Gnats from the Eggs Room, and 2 random small monsters that spawn inside the Queen's chamber. If you shoot the Queen she'll spawn additional enemies though.
  • Through regular mining of Diamond nodes located inside Hive Typhoon (random chance to spawn Diamond nodes at different parts of the cave system).
  • Through node pickup from Mine 1-B, Baldur (random chance of Diamonds spawning inside Venting Crates, rarely happens).
  • Through node pickup from Reinforced Crates near Osiris Base 1 (random chance of Diamonds spawning inside, rarely happens).
  • Through regular mining of Diamond Nodes located in Aziel (there are actually coordinates to these but by then you'd have a Spaceship as well).

50- How can I find Azurnium?

  • Azurnium is found on asteroids in space.
  • You will need a spaceship to go into orbit and spacewalk in order to mine it.
For more tips on how to fly the Spaceship please see the video below.
https://youtu.be/BNsUij8RRKs

For more tips on how to Mine Azurnium please see the video below.
https://youtu.be/k3-x878eqBU

51- I can't craft/build certain things!
  • In order to craft or build something, you will need to meet 2 requirements: materials and skill unlocked in the Skills Tree (hit TAB to see it).
  • Certain items can also be found in the game by exploring (like batteries, wires, heavy machine gun).
  • Also consider this game is still an early access game, so some items won't be unlocked for now, or you won't be able to build it even if unlocked on the Skills tree.
For more tips on building with Custom Pieces please see the video below.
https://youtu.be/o_N9K9foeiM

52-I don't know how to plant any plants in the Biodome.
  • In order to add plants to your Biodome you will need to unlock the necessary skills to build a Bin.
  • You will also need soil and seeds (plants you want to plant).
For more tips on how to plant seeds please see the video below.
https://youtu.be/US7oYqvRN2s

53- How do I gather gases?
  • You need to stand in front of a gas geyser, equip an empty barrel on one of your slots and press F.
  • Barrels can be crafted in the Forge.

VEHICLES LIST

54- What are the available Vehicles?
  • Hover Bike: fast, maneuverable propulsion-bike. No weapons. No inventory.
  • G.A.V.: decent all-terrain vehicle. Laser gun. 2 seats. Small inventory.
  • Rover: slow, large, all-terrain vehicle. No weapons. 2 seats (???). Decent inventory.
  • Spaceship: large, fly-capable ship. No weapons. 2 seats (???). Large inventory.
  • Mecha-Crab (currently bugged): slow, all-terrain vehicle. Triple blast weapon. No inventory. Can jump.
  • Heavy Class O.A.M.U. (currently unavailable): slow, tall bipedal mech, effective weapons.

55- My vehicle ran out of power. What gives?
  • The "power" indicator currently represents your vehicle's available fuel.
  • Hydrazine, which is created in the Chem Station, can be used as a fuel source for vehicles.
  • Simply equip your Hydrazine-filled glass and stand next to a vehicle. Press G to refuel one time.
  • You can also create liquid tanks and fill them with Hydrazine, then just drive the vehicle onto the highlighted area for auto-refuel.

56- My vehicle/spaceship disappeared!
  • There are currently a few known bugs with certain vehicles.
  • Some vehicles were craftable in the past but are currently disabled while the devs fix them.
  • Some vehicles currently use fuel and some don't. This is probably going to change to all vehicles needing some type of fuel in the future.

57- Why can't I built the Mech? (Heavy Class O.A.M.U.)?
  • This has been disabled in the game for the time being, due to pathing and other issues.
  • Currently being worked on again by the devs. Expect a return in the future.
  • Not-craftable at the moment.

58- I lost my O.M.P.A. / it's out of energy / it's stuck under terrain.
  • If you "lose" your O.M.P.A., you should be able to find its coordinates in the control panel.
  • If you still cannot find it, pull up the chat and enter "OMPA help" and that should give you a list of mmands to be able - to find its location. You can type in "report command" and then select "all."

61- What are these cobalt-based weapons?
  • These are basic variants of most of the previous guns that have 25% more durability.
  • These require special materials and the Advanced Fabricator to be craftable.

62- When I reload my weapon, I lose all the rounds on that clip!
  • This is intended behavior. If you reload your weapon and not all rounds have been fired, you will lose those rounds.
PARTIES AND COLONIES

65- What is a party
In most videogames, parties are groups of people that band together to perform an action or undertake an adventure.

66- What are the benefits of a party?
When you are on a party with other players, entering separate areas (like Mine: Baldur) will ask everyone in the party to accept. If everyone accepts you will all travel together to the new area together.

67- How do I invite players to my party?
Just make sure you are playing in the same server, get close to each other and press "F" once, to send a party invite. Your friend will have to accept by getting close to the player who sent the invitation and pressing "F" as well.

68- I am sending my friend a party invite, he accepts but it's not working!
Sometimes the party system bugs out. Simply have you or your friend restart the game and try again.

69- How do I leave a party?
Simply get close to a party member and press "F".

70- What is a colony
A colony is a permanent group of players that have gathered together to cooperate.

71- What are the benefits of a colony?
You can use structures and utilities made by other colony members, as well as specialize in a specific skill tree to progress faster as a group.
You can also band together to defend yourselves against enemy attacks.

72- How do I invite players to my colony?
You must first create a colony. Hit "TAB" then click "Create Colony" in the top right section. Then get close to another player and press "F" to invite. Your friend will have to accept by hitting "TAB" as well and accepting the invitation under the same section.

73- I can't use utilities/structures made by another colony member!
Sometimes structures built by other members of the colony need to be "made public" by them before others can use them.

74- How do I leave a colony?
Hit tab and click "Leave colony" in the top right section of the screen.
MISSIONS AND EXPLORATION
75- Where is Osiris Base 1?
  • If you are a new player I would recommend against starting this quest right away, as it is a long and dangerous road. Better to get used to the basics first.
  • Be sure to avoid this place particularly at night until you are prepared.
  • Part of the game involves exploration so if you want a hint just be aware this base is located near the center of the map, near to the Worm Graveyard.

76- What are these Mines people are talking about?
  • They are Osiris' additional exploration zones.
  • There are 2 Mines you can currently visit: Mine: Magni, and Mine: Baldur.
  • They are far away from your starting position, and filled with dangerous creatures and rare resources.
  • If you exit and re-enter a mine, all drops and monsters will respawn.
  • There is a 3rd Mine door near the Tumbo Basin and Hive: Typhoon cave but it currently has no way of getting in.

77- What are these Hives and how many are them?
  • These are additional exploration zones, akin to the old Cave systes the game used to have when it was initially launched.
  • These are still very much work in progress so expect them to be unfinished/unpolished.
  • Currently there are 6 Hives; Hive Typhoon (only one you can enter right now), Hive Cyclone and 4 other unnamed Hives.
  • Only the 1st one is accessible for now, through a mound door (get close to the mound, press F to access).

78- I can't enter a specific Mine
  • Mine: Baldur is mission-bound so you won't be able to get in it unless you complete the previous quest.
  • Mine: Magni should be enterable right off the bat.

79- I have completed all missions. Are there any left?
  • New content is still being worked on by the dev team.
  • After you complete the first few missions, there isn't much else to do but explore the moons and fool around.
  • Expect more missions in future updates. Devs have stated they have plans for the Single Player experience.

80- Can I visit other planets?
  • Currently there are 2 playable moons and 1 planet in the game: Proteus II, Aziel and Zer respectively.
  • You can explore Aziel and Zer after you build a spaceship.
  • These 2 currently has a lot of rare resources only found there.
  • More planets are planned as well, we will need to wait and see though, since devs hand-craft planets and it takes time.

81- What other things can I do?
  • Try to build every single thing in the game, including base walls and turrets.
  • Try to kill every single monster in the game at least once.
  • Find the best location for your base.
  • Build a 2nd base, an underwater base, an air base.
  • Put Beacons on places of interest or resources locations.
  • Play around with custom walls and floors. There's lots to build!
  • Explore all the planets and moons!
  • Explore Proteus II Site B.
  • Explore all the hives!

https://gameplay.tips/guides/10617-osiris-new-dawn.html is where i found and was able to find tin except it was 0.4 and 0.8 off from the suggested location. I know for me i literally beaconed the living heck out of my entire map to all resource nodes and eventually found only 5 tin nodes that did not respond. had to switch game to custom to force spawn or use creative to get stuff to spawn. Don't get me wrong this games a ton of fun, once you get past the massive headache that is resource harvesting, which becomes such a colossal headache that it puts a massive dampener on the rest of the gameplay.
