Introduction
There are four Sign Stones in each area. If you find them all, they will decipher the Temple Sign in each area.

If you want to discover them for yourself, I recommend you use a controller. It will vibrate when you are near by.

Otherwise, here are screenshots and descriptions of where all the Sign Stones are.
Summer
By the hunting village, near a campsite. Can be seen from the pillar.

At the base of the waterfall, right behind the Temple Sign.

In the windmill terraces to the right of the Gate.

On the shoreline, in the Japanese village to the left of the Gate.
Autumn
All of the sign stones are in the first area, before the sky bridge.

In the trees under the floating island village.

On the side of a mountain wall.

In a mountain range in the middle of the map, between the two ground villages.

In another mountain range in the middle of the map, near the floating island.
Winter
Turn right immediately after the first gate

The other three are all covered in snow, next to gazebo bonfires:

Along the path in the first outside area, next to the fourth gazebo bonfire.

In the second village (that also holds the temple), following the right wall.

After the ice gate, take the right path, and it's straight ahead.
Spring
If the sun is East:

On the west side (closest to starting location) of the base of the tall central mountain. (The temple is on the other side of this mountain.)

Near the right/south wall, near the path, between the first village and the beach village, below one of the last peaks.

Bottom of left/north side of drawbridge

Near the left/north wall, near the hill that divides the path near the canal village.
Temple Sign Translations
Summer: Be not afraid of growing slowly. Be afraid only of standing still.

Autumn: Climb the mountain to see the world, not so that the world can see you.

Winter: Be humble, for you are of the earth. Be noble, for you are of the stars.

Spring: Joy is the passage from lesser to greater perfection. Share it wherever you can.

I can confirm there is no mid-level autosave, or any manual save. The only thing that gets saved in the entire game is which seasons you've unlocked. Thanks again for the Guide, it helped me especially with the Autumn level, which I found the hardest.

There is a level select, but it returns you to a 'blank canvas' (which is why my screenshots for Summer are so colorless). I don't remember if there was autosave mid-level or not. I might have played through each level in one sitting. I don't mind answering here for others who might have the same question, but feel free to add me if you wish.

Thank you...are you saying that once you go through the door, you can't revisit and spread more color and joy? Also, does this game autosave, and if so, do you know what triggers a save? (Add me on Steam if you don't want to clutter up your Guide.)

"Color is returning" and "Spread color and joy" are indeed for painting enough of the map. Once you've painted enough, the door to the next level - to complete the level - will open, but do not go through it until you've finished "Spread color and joy". The area needed is very high; I don't think it was 100%, but definitely 95%+.

If you don't mind answering, how do the various achievements work? There are the "Color is returning ..." ones (paint 50% of the area?), "Deciphered the temple [...]" which is find the sign stones and decipher the message (your Guide), "Spread color and joy to [...]" which is...paint 100% of the area? and "Completed the [Season] level," which I guess will become more obvious in-game how you complete a level. Thank you.
